Flashing time - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Trying to flash my galaxy S and Odin just sits on File Analysis....
I have left it for about 15 minutes and nothing changes. Is that normal or is it not working correctly?
thanks

Thats way to long. Does Odin show a connection to a com port in the upper left window?

Same thing happened to me earlier. I just unplugged the usb cable, turned the phone off and re-entered download mode, plugged the usb cable back in while odin was already running and tried again. Worked like a charm.

Bricked phone after updating to JH7 through Mini Kies

I recently found out I could update my captivate with Kies Mini. I updated and everything went smoothly. Kies told me update was successful and I unplugged my captivate. It was booting up fine until it reached the Galaxy S logo. It kept going through the logo animation for about 2 minutes before it shut off. I took the battery out and tried again. Same result. my soft buttons are lighted up. When I touch them It responds with a blink, but no haptic feedback. What is going on??How can I fix this? I tried using Odin to flash it back to stock but it won't recognize it. Mt phone was stock 2.1 with the Voodoo Lag Fix installed and everything ran fine and then after the JH7 update the phone messed up. I read that Launcher Pro causes problems with this update and you have to select the Touch Wiz UI when doing it which I forgot to do.
Please help, thank you.
Make sure your phone is powered down (remove then replace the battery if you have to), run odin, while holding both volume up and down buttons plug in the usb cable to enter download mode, flash with odin.

Ya I did that. I get a failed message in red. I attached a picture showing what it shows me.
hve you tried the one click odin tht takes you all the wy back, or is that what you show in the screen shot? You may want to try a different computer or try a master clear.

I tried master clear, it says failed and then completed but it still won't boot up, the Galaxy S screen stays up while the S is flashing and then it goes black. If I press the power button the soft buttons light up but I can't see anything on the screen.
Hmm. And you are putting the phone in download mode (with the big yellow triangle and a shoveling bot pic) as opposed to recovery mode?

Yes, download mode with the android shoveling that rock stuff
Weird. The only suggestions I can think of then are, try running odin as admin, try using heimdall to flash.
Edit: if all that fails try a different computer and/or different USB cable.

I agree, I have bricked my phone and was able to come back with Odin. Even try downloading it again. Heck try flashing froyo odin one click as well

DUDE YOU FREAKING ROCK!!!! THANK YOU!!! (I ran as administrator and it worked this time)
Nice. Glad you got it working.
Word to the wise folks... disable any lagfixes before attempting to update. I had the same issue and had to Odin 1-Click to get it back to stock.

WTF am I doing wrong?????

I am trying to flash a ROM, but I simply can't get ODIN to work properly. I've used ODIN 1-click and the other ODIN and both get stuck - the 1-Click gets stuck on file analysis and in other ODIN version got stuck on Initialization (two steps AFTER file analysis). It freezes either way... and YES, I did get the Com port assignment; all USB drivers are loaded/installed.
Needless to say, my phone now reboots with the stupid Phone + Triangle + Computer thing...
I can still get to Download Mode but I'm a bit confused as to where to go from here. Should I use a different computer or try a different method or what? Based on the research I've done, this should have just taken off and worked, no issues....
The phone was a bone stock flash (although rooted) and I was following the steps outlined in Connexion's video.
HELP!
Well, your first problem is you posted this in development instead of Q&A.
But in all seriousness, make sure you start the odin 1 click BEFORE connecting the phone. If you start it after it will get stuck in file analysis.
Hopefully this helps.
Same thing happened to me. I flash serendity and tried to update and odin was just stuck. But I did a reset with the three button fix...that seemed o work.

IIRC, It was open before starting plugging the phone in. Does it matter which ODIN I use?
You could try bay_wolf's AIO Captivate Toolbox thats linked in my signature.
Wrong section buddy! You'll get less flaming and more help in Q&A.
Have you opened Odin before putting the phone in Download? Also, this post by nbs11 might help you along a bit
Also, run odin as administrator.

Yeah, I do this along with a few other precautions: ensuring that I run 1-click as an administrator (right click, run as administrator), ensuring that the proper USB drivers are installed (the one from the 1-click thread).
If it doesn't work, try another USB port.
Sorry about the wrong area - I just panicked I think.
I just tried it again and this time it hung up on "Setup Connection".
Very odd.
I'm going to try it on my laptop and see what happens...
make sure you plug the usb cable into a usb port on the motherboard. front panel usb ports can play hell with odin.

That could also be my problem.
However, I loaded everything onto my laptop (also running Win7 64bit) and it went through with NO issues... The flash back to stock that is....
I think I'm gonna use the laptop from here on out - Both of my desktops have given me problems with Odin.

next time try this: with the phone powered off and odin running, hold both volume buttons down while plugging the cable in. again, odin can be a b*tch sometimes.
glad ta hear ya got it to flash.
Try: 1st open Odin, 2nd add pit and tar, 3rd battery out then install battery while holding both volume keys, usb to phone.

Right ...like RPICASO said.... is pretty much what I was getting at.
Holding the buttons down while plugging in the usb will start the phone up into download mode and be connected properly.

Well, after the ODIN mishap and then switching to my laptop - Everything else went very smoothly, just as outlined in the video.
I installed Andromeda 1.1 and it looks really nice!
Thanks again for the quick help/responses - I REALLY appreciate it.
Mods: Could you move this to the correct section?
THANKS!!

Seems to be - Right out of the box I'm impressed - It just has a rock solid feel to it.
I was also VERY impressed that I walked outside and opened Maps and was INSTANTLY locked onto GPS - Whereas this afternoon I tried the same thing on the stock JH7 2.1 and didn't get a lock EVER.
WOOTTTT!!!!!
One quick general question - I backed up using Ti-Ba before I flashed. My apps are restored, but all of my settings (email, background, icons, usernames/pass) seem to be missing. In Ti-Ba I used "Restore missing apps with data". It did restore the apps, but the details seem to be missing. Should I have used a different restore option (or can I use one now)?
THANKS AGAIN!!! I'll give some feedback tomorrow; for now, time for sleep.

Help! Can't get into Download/Recovery!

Hey guys, I ran Oden, went into download, clicked start etc... Booted up, master cleared, rooting using one click, up to that point no errors. Now, however, I am completely unable to get into download mode and/or recovery mode. I have tried the 3 button trick over 50 times for both with no luck.. For download mode, yes I have tried plugging into charger and then putting in battery... still no luck.. it boots up and everything though.. help much appreciated!!!!

Try different usb port and try unplugging and plugging back.
If Odin isn't doing it, you could also give Heimdall a try - it will sometimes work when Odin won't. Just a thought.

Soft Bricked GSM Galaxy tab (phone---!---computer symbol(

my tab is rooted and is running 2.2.I decided to flash cwm via odin,i put it in download mode and flashed cwm but odin showed a 'fail'.i tried flashing it again, there was a power cut and the computer unfortunately stopped in the middle of flashing.the tab since then is showng a phone--!---computer symbol.i tried going back into download mode, but luck.odin was still detecting it,i tried to flash cwm again, but no luck.i let it discharge completely.
now the screen with the phone---!---computer wont come up until i plug it into the charger,as soon as i remove the cable, the screen vanishes.i tried to charge it for nearly 6 hours, but still that screen wont come up after i unplug the charger.when i press and hold the power button while the tab is connected to the charger, the screen with the symbol again comes up and vanishes after a few seconds, ive seen a one click unbrick solution for this, but for that to happen the tab should charge and the screen with the symbol should come up even when the tab is unplugged.please help!!

i guess your gonna download a firmware on 2.2.1 and flash it..........but i recommend 2.3.3 firmware..try it on mine the ......!....... but still odin detects it......2.2.1 is old try AOKP for are tab....best rom
First, which tab is yours.
Edit: from your pm you indicate P1000.
OK, I sounds luke a broken record now but here goes.
Have you had a look at overcome method.
You need to flash GB-stock-safe-v5.
Sometimes even when screen is blank, it can still be a download mode.
So, be sure that it is charged (using original wall charger).
Then ready Odin and the files in proper places and pre connect the tab to PC.
Then boot to download mode and quickly flash using Odin.

one click unbrick tool in attachments (you need java installed for this to work)
i now have to flash cw and install that jellybean rom right away.
What about a Tab P1000N? What can be done with that one?
One Click Unbrick (by Adam Outler) is not a P1000 specific software.
It should work for P1000N too.

did someone really told you to wall charged when you had dowload screen? that's so uncharacteristic of XDA users.
nothing on your screen is not necessarily bricked.
find and download rom/firmware for t-mobile on ur pc.
start odin on ur pc.
press the power button on ur tab for at least 5secs.
connect ur tab to ur pc.
see if odin can detect your tab
if you can detect your tab, go ahead flash with the rom you just downloaded. No need to do repartition.
once done, reboot and see if it is fixed.
