My HTC dream battery is swollen and i was wondering if it is possible to use my phone without the battery. IE connected to the ac charger, or plugged in via usb to a computer. Ive tried everything to my knowledge to make it work, and i could have sworn before it did work when the battery was out but ac charger was in. Any help people? Thanks in advance

Hi,
is it bad for the battery that I often sync and install stuff via my PC USB cable and so the Kaiser is charging like this? So I use power-charger less?
Thanks!
I have always used the USB to charge my phone and I've had a problem free tilt since they came out.
ok, so I will now worry for the battery life than...
HI Guys
I have a Tytn II and recently I went abroad, and the phone said MM#6 phone not allowed.
Now I'm back in my home country, but now my phone will not charger from any charger ( I have tried more than 1), however it will charge ok using a car charger.
If I plug it into the PC , it does not detect the phone, I done a hard reset, and that didn't fix it.
Can anyone help me with this problem or any trouble shooting idea's.
Oh and I took the battery out and put it back in.
Thanks

The PC should charge it regardless if the OS knows what is going on. The phone will just pull the 5V off of the USB and charge the phone. It is not like some other phones (my motorola IDEN i335) that require a PC driver to be installed to charge. There may be something wrong with your PC or cable if it's not charging up. Have you tried wiggling the cable or blowing out the port? I have a few USB cables that require some attention in order to work. Hope that helps.
Hi there, thanks for your help.
I tried several USB cables, and chargers, some HTC chargers and a generic one, but none of them charge the phone up. I've tried wiggling the cable , blown air in it etc.
Its weird as it charges from the car charger no problem at all, just not off the PC , or a normal charger....arghh don't know what to do with it.

it won't charge off of a normal charger either?! Sounds like you have some black magic goin on
Hey there....
Nope wont charge off a normal charger
Wont charge off a USB cable
but WILL charge off a car charger.
Have you checked the HTC website? I was just there on another issue and seem to recall seeing something in the FAQs about this issue.
nope
thanks for the help bud, but that FAQ if for phones that charge off AC adapters but not of usb
mine doesnt charge ofan AC or a USB...ONLY a car charger
Hey there Xlt, What contry did you go to and what country are you from?
If you went to a country with a 220v and your charger only supports 110v you may of damage the charger and the phone with the voltage difference and vice visa.
The car charger may work because it is only coming from a 12v power supply, you could buy a adapter that lets you use the car charger in the home socket and then see if it works to see if it was the volt difference.
Hope that Helps
Hello everyone,
I have weird problem with my kaiser - it doesn't charge. I tried everything what comes to my mind, but maybe someone will have some new ideas.
When plugged in, yellow LED turns on and it says "charging" in the OS, but battery keeps loosing charge. It doesnt matter if I'm trying to charge it via stock charger or over USB. USB port on device is communicating normally - i can access phone memory or SD card from computer over USB, and I checked that "dont charge over USB" is NOT ticked.
I found Kaiser dead in the morning while on wall charger, with yellow LED on. Tried to charge over USB, same thing happens.
I then opened the device (thanks for nice guide for taking kaiser apart) and confirmed that situation is as following:
- voltage on inner contacts of usb (on the PCB side) is 4.5V
- voltage on the pcb side of the battery contacts is 0.8V when plugged in, and when yellow LED is turned on (I believe that in this situation there should be full 4.5V from USB port which i measured and confirmed that is really there on the USB)
- I tried to charge battery individually, (out of the device) and it takes charge normally and keeps it (for a 2 years old device and battery thats great)
- tried to reflash stock rom - all went well (another confirmation that usb is working), but no change, battery still wont take charge
Phone specification:
Kaiser 130 (T-mobile MDA Vario III)
Hard SPL 3.56
ROM and radio: Stock t-mobile 6.1
Battery: stock DynaPack
So it seems that im in the market for new PCB or Kaiser with broken screen or flat cable - offers on pm, please
Oh, it seems that i was able to solve what red LED means - it simply means that there is no (or either failed or inadequate) battery while USB is plugged in and should be charging - but that doesnt mean that it is main battery - there is another small backup battery on PCB. That is my observation, was unable to check it in literature or service manual if im right with that opinion, but i do hope that i helped someone with RLOD
Have a nice day,
darko
bump! anyone?
curious, havwe you tried another battery? You can get them on ebay for $5-$10. I killed my USB plug, I was able to connect with USB, but it would not charge. So I purcahsed a 3-in-1 adapter (which supports the usb plug on top ane bottom), when that finally died I purchased a cradle with extra battery charger. I just keep the spare battery it in and swap them when one dies. No charger needed.
I can help maybe. It has to do with the software. The USB connector can't be the porblem otherwise it would not see the power and let the Red LED turn on. In older devices and some of the new is a lock. It prevents you from charging the phone with a charger not made by HTC. There is a cab called Batfix.cab (Or anything like that). Try to install it. Maybe it helps. The 0.8 Volt only can be normal cause the voltage has to do with the battery. If you take it out the System won't try to charge it cause it doesn't get any power from the battery. That is done to prevent it from charging a fully dead battery cause that could harm your device and yourself cause the battery may explode.

hi, I want to buy a non USB charger so I can plug my battery in and charge it without the phone needing to be present. What charger did you buy, can you post a link or a pic etc. thanks!
Greeting to XDA-community.
I have a problem. I don't have any opportunity to use regular charger for my G1. So I used charging via usb, but when I have turned on Wifi (ad-hoc to connect with laptop) and started to use G1 heavily it just dropped dead (battery is 0%). As I understand charging via usb is less then amount of power G1 uses during heavy use. But now I can't charge the phone at all. I have killed my second battery (stock too) the same way. The only thing that I see when connect to usb is that LED is red, sometimes light is pulsating, but can't turn the phone on. I also use to different source of charging. The problem I can do this only from USB port . Did somebody have such problem? I need someway to charge it...
Thanks for any help
You could try a powered USB hub, but if youa re going to buy something, why not just buy a charger?

I am using smth like this, a charger for mp3 player with 5.2v. Doesn't help
I am in Europe for couple of weeks, charger isn't working here due to different plugs, so I didn't bring it with me (but should , you can buy adapter US-EU plug without problem), thought charging via USB is working well, but it don't.
Hi everyone,
I've got a problem. When i charge my phone by USB on my laptop. The battery keeps to be drained. The notification icon says it is charging but it's like if it wasn't. When i try to charge my phone by AC adapter, It quickly charge without problems.
When i charge the battery, Wifi and Bluetooth are not activated.
Does anyone has noticed that ?
Thanks by advance

Being my 1st smartphone (came from a BB) I have noticed it is slow to charge on USB but dont have anything to compare to. Will go up by about 10% in 40Mins for me.
I know that USB has less power running through it so wont charge up anywhere near a mains charge so bare that in mind.
Have you tried other USB ports or another computer? Might be just not enough juice coming through to charge it properly.
