[Q] how to disable the internet or delete all browsers? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hi...first time posting, so thanks in advance for your help.
Trying to keep my diamond from being used to look up pictures on the internet
I'd like to be able to keep wi-fi available for 3rd party applications like skype, but I need the browsers to go...specifically the iexplore.exe in the /windows folder which is impossible to delete.
The ideal solution would be to password protect browsers or the wi-fi connection. A text-only browser would also be great, but only if I can get rid of iexplore. If there is no other solution, I'm willing to disable or lock wifi altogether.
Are there any browser-less roms without the iexplore.exe on them, or a possible way to corrupt the integrated iexplore.exe program so its unusable? This is very important to me. If you have any ideas at all, please let me know.

How did you go with this?
I'm looking to do exactly the same thing.

my friend if I understand you you want to disable the Internet from the SIM to stop dialing in the net.....If thats right you can use NoData it disable the settings to make Data-Connection
for the browsers you can use opera mobile 10 and use the settings to stop showing the pictures
sry for my englisch

ROM without Internet Explorer?

Hey guys. I really need to get IE off of my Wing for parental reasons. Is there anyone that could either cook me a ROM without it, or give me noob-friendly instructions on how to cook my own ROM and leave IE out?
parental reasons? care to explain? =)
Anyway, the problem is that some functions of the ROM may depend on IE being there, kind of like how you can't play mp3 ringtones without WMP.
What you CAN do is disable the wifi and data services from running on the phone, which is relatively easy.
Aserg can help you with the wifi, but to disable the data, use MoDaCo's nodata to disable the data connection and, if you want, MMS.
Download JustClean EBO and then just remove the BROWSER folders from the SYS folder.
First off, thanks for the bullet speed response.
Second. what functions would require IE? Any chance that I don't use any of them?
Third. Is there a way to disable Wifi without having it just as easily come back on?
Fourth. I don't have any data plan, but will I lose any features (other than web browsing) without having wifi?
1. You're welcome
2. I don't know, but there might always be something. I refer you to one of the more senior cooks (ivan, ttran, itje).
3. You could just not turn it on in comm manager. This is usually foolproof to an extent, but if they want assurance, ask Aserg how to disable the services.
4. Nope.
Thank you so much ivanmmj! Worked like a charm! But how do I delete it's icon from the program directory?
Open your initflash.dat file (I think that's what it's called... I'm at work, so this is from memory) using NOTEPAD. Look for the internet explorer.lnk and delete that. Then save the file and open it with a HEX editor. Then remove the first two parts. Something like FE FE or something. Or, if you don't want to recook, go to your \Windows\Start Menu and delete the Internet Explorer.lnk since it's not "cooked" but created whenever you flash/hardreset by that dat file I mentioned.
Very Good Good

A few questions

This post contains a few questions I have after a week or so using my Touch Diamond, about issues I've not seen mentioned on this or other boards.
1) When I hold phone then speak to phone a contact, it repeats the contacts name (ie plays the sample of my voice it used to identify the contact). Can I turn that playback off?
2) Sometimes holding the bottom right key (end call) does nothing, or just moves the touchflo 3d selection to the right, instead of locking the phone. It seems to do this more often if I've been using the phone to surf etc, and less if I've just used it for a few seconds, as if it's busy (although it's responsive in every other respect)
3) In the messaging app, under the top line of text, I can choose between:
Gmail
Outlook E-mail
SMS \ MMS
I'd like to remove the Outlook line - I never use it - it's just Gmail or text messages for me. Can I do this?
4) When I use Fring to do Instant Messaging (which doesn't seem to pick up on all my contacts for some reason - any idea why?) it will enable and use Wifi, even if it was turned off. But if I load Opera it'll not re-enable Wifi but will simply use my phone provider (ie 3G, GPRS etc). Is there any way of getting Opera (or any app, if that's easier) to enable Wifi when loaded. I want to use it for speed, and to reduce my data usage via my phone provider, but I don't want to pay the price in battery life.
5) Has anyone had any success in using their Touch Diamond to connect to a network (Ubuntu, using Samba, or Windows - I'm not bothered which)? Surely it should be possible?
6) Can I make Opera and not Internet Explorer the default app for .html files and links in emails/text messages?
7) Has anyone had any luck getting java applets working from web pages in Opera (or Internet Explorer, as a last resort)? I can get regular midlets working in the stand alone Java client thing, but I need to be able to log into secure sites using my phone and the sites use little Java apps.
I'm sure I had another question or two but it's late and I can't remember, so this should keep you going for now!
Thanks in advance.
Too many questions!
I'll answer number 5: Yes you can connect to a network share using a program called Network Plugin or, even better, Resco Explorer, although that one isn't free. I've only used it for Windows XP shares so far.
I'll answer number 2!
Do you use a rubberized case similar to the one in my avatar? I've come to realize that it somehow prevents the talk/end keys from functioning properly (same behavior - itll think im either trying to go left or right in tf3d). Removing the case fixes the problem for me. Sounds silly I know, but when I realized that it was the rubber case, I couldn't stop banging my head.
If you're not using a case of some sort, then I have no clue
I'll asnwer number 2 as well.
Had the same problem. I think it's a kinda bug.
Solved it with the new Rom 2.30.

Internet help NEEDED!

I am currently using a FUZE on tmobile, and the internet explorer is working through the START menu, however the main TF3d INTERNET screen DOES NOT WORK.. I was wondering if there is any way to designate that INTERNET tab to use explorer or another browser (since I'm guessing that ATT had is assigned to some of their crap and that's why it isn't working).
ALSO, I'm wondering what other internet programs are out there that I could use (opera, etc?). I'm hoping that some other browsers will be able to get sites that I can't get on explorer (remember, I don't get 3g since I'm using this on T-mob, but I don't know if that's why the sites arent working).
ANY INFO WILL HELP THANKS. (also, I'm not a hacker type, so please use laymen terms for this, and also more basic procedures)

Esmertec + Opera Mini 4.2 security

I've done searches and I find many answers about making Opera not ask about connecting to the network, but I haven't found anyone mention the other permissions.
I would like to allow Opera Mini (multiple cert. version) the privilege to write data, but when I try to set permissions in jbed (Esmertec 20090416.5.1) the permissions for Read and Write User Data are hard-set to "Never Allow." There is no way to change them. Also, just for the sake of mentioning it, the Net Access permission is set to "Ask" and is editable, but once clicked on, the only selection available is.. "Ask."
I just get frustrated having to use a few different browsers just to do simple things. I would rather just use Mini almost exclusively, instead of having to pop open PIE in order to download a file or save a picture.
FWIW, the registry edit to make fonts larger in PIE also doesn't seem to work on my Fuze with updated stock ROM. But that's probably an issue for a different thread..
Is there a solution to this problem that I missed somewhere?
Thanks in advance.

[Q] Change security settings of installed programs

Hi there,
I was wondering if it is at all possible to change what permissions programs have after they have been installed, or possibly editing the APK/Files within it to change the permissions they use before installation.
I find it a bit disconcerting installing programs that request security access to your Phone Book among other things when their function has nothing to do with it.
Also is there a program that is able to monitor/block/limit speed in regards to network usage on open ports? A similar program is created for PC's called Net Limiter that gives a break down of all incoming and outgoing connections and their corresponding ports.
With these sorts of phones getting even more powerful, I think there really should be a way to monitor what these programs are upto in regards to Network communications.
Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
No one have any suggestions in regards to securing their phones/monitoring apps?
