Features:
-substantial, industrial materials
-access to all controls (yes, even volume)
-integrated charging cord
Required tools:
-utility knife/olfa
-screwdriver
-drill
-some kind of superglue
Materials:
-4.5" heavy-duty steel hinge ($1.50 like-new at Urban Ore)
-4.5" x 3" x 1/4" piece of Lexan or Plexiglass ($2 or less, TAP Plastics)
-2 rubber feet (~1in deep, ~1/2"diameter) ($1.50, OSH)
-2 small wood screws with finishing washers, a few tacks (cost negligible)
-(optional) 90-degree MicroUSB cord (Prices vary - I have one of these http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001AR4NC8/ref=cm_cr_rev_prod_title)
Loose DIY Guidelines (no guarantees, do your own measuring!)
1) Slice a 1/4" disk off the bottom of each rubber foot with the knife.
2) In one of the foot pieces, carve out a slot for the usb cable so the metal prong sits flush with the surface, secure with tacks and glue.
3) Drill holes in plexiglass and rubber disks slightly smaller than wood screws.
4) Line up and screw together as shown in picture, putting glue between the rubber pieces and the plexiglass. (Screw > Washer > Hinge > Rubber Disk > Plexiglass > Rubber foot) and you're done.
Nice, functional, industrial and easy to make

Aw c'mon, you guys can't be *that* lazy ... I'm not selling them, just sharing what I did in the hope I'd inspire some other people to do the same (or one-up me...)
That is awesome... and it's collapsible!
Yes, yes I am *that* lazy.. I'm not good with my hands in building things, nor finding parts like that. I rather just pay somebody to do it.
Now, it was a computer, and programing a program in C# or in Java, then I'd do it.. lol
Very impressive! I'm going to have to try this out.
DR Fankenstein would be proud!! I think it may need some knockers though.
Very nice. Now I have a project. Gonna try to find all the parts at home depot. Thanks

Let me know if you find the parts at home depot - the sources in the OP are too expensive if ordered through the mail, and I live in the middle of nowhere.
Especially let me know if they cut plexiglass!
Finally got around to making a couple of these for me and my wife. Each one cost about $15 (purchased all supplies except micro USB at local giant home store), with the plexiglass driving the price by far. If you have access to cheap plexiglass then you can make them for much cheaper. Or if you make a bunch of them the price goes down quickly (had to buy a large sheet of plexi).
The only modification that I made from the OP instructions is that the rubber foot without the USB cable mounted has a larger woodscrew in it and is not glued.
See attachment.
Keep in mind it helps to have a ROM that will rotate the screen, i.e. non-stock. Didn't realize this when I built my wife's, so hers mounts sideways. Oh well.
I am not trying to sell anything, but I have purchased another guys cradle via:
androidforums. com/incredible-accessories/ 132210-custom-made-incredible-dock-15 .html
Still cannot post links yet so sorry, but I added spaces to the link above to get it posted here.. Sorry..
Its actually very nice. My only gripe with it is that it is very very light... So light then when I pull my phone out, the whole cradle wants to lift up.. So, I milled four holes (one into each foot) and added magnets... Now it stays put on my metal shelf.
What you have done though is fantastic. Its nice and simple but still has a great look about it. Nice job!

Very simple and effective. I like it!
Thanks for sharing
I finally made one too
It took me some time to get all the parts (micro-usb cable was on backorder) but i think it came out pretty decent.
Awesome job man. Very creative.
Beautiful job! I'd buy one of those if you were selling.
Kudos, sweet idea and excellent execution. A rare combination for do-it-youselfers, I luvit too.

Wire stand variation allowing charging & headphones
Hi all. I decided to make a version of the paperclip desk stand that would allow me to keep the charger plugged in and listen to headphones. You will need:
- 1 plastic coated wire clothes hanger OR ~ 60 cm of coated wire - not too heavy gauge or it will be hard to bend.
- Pliers
- Cloth to grip wire with to avoid damage from pliers
- Paper to put template on
- A ruler and pen
Method: Rule a 29cm line on the paper. Starting at the left hand end, mark the following positions on the line - 6.5cm, 11.5cm, 14.5cm, 19.5cm and 28.5cm. Hold the left hand end of the wire up against the line and transfer the marks to the wire, including the 29cm end which is halfway. Turn the wire, keeping the 29cm mark in line with the end of the ruled line and transfer the marks from right back to left on the remaining ~30cm of wire. Use the pliers to trim the excess wire off the end of the wire. Now, starting in the middle of the wire, bend the wire ~75-90 degrees at the 28.5cm marks - there should be about a cm of wire between the bends. Next, bend the wire into a hairpin bend at the 19.5cm marks. Then bend the wire ~85-90 degrees at the 14.5cm marks. This makes two 5cm "legs" at the back of the stand. Bend the wire ~85-90 degrees back down at the 11.5cm marks. Then make hairpin bends at the 6.5cm marks. Using the cloth and pliers, grip the 4 "hairpins" and squeeze the wires as close together as you can get them. Last, grip the short front ends of the wire and bend them outwards to avoid scratching the phone. Voila - a stand that can hold your HD2 while it's charging (pretend my old iPaq in the pic is the HD2 I used to take the photos )
Note: it isn't super stable, but it isn't intended to be.
Note 2: the other stand is "one I prepared earlier" from an over-the-door hanger. More stable, but doesn't have room for the charging cable.
My new hobby - creative accessories for the HD2
So I decided to make my own book cover...
I bought a hardcover book at goodwill and cut out all the pages. Bought some liner paper at a local fabric store, along with thin cardboard sheets. I cut the cardboard sheets to fit inside the book and covered the cardboard with the liner paper. Hot glued some elastic and long story short here you go:

I did something similar
Your's looks pretty cool. I like the exposed book. The book I used was really old so I had to cover it.
Woah! You're both very, very good! Time to go into business! I do wonder about the durability of elastic bands holding the NC corners though. I suppose if you get good quality ones and fix them well, they should last for quite a while.
Anyone else with diy book covers to inspire us?
Awesome work fellas! =)

Do yo have a step by step log showing how you did that? Looks great!
That first case is very nice. I came across that layout after getting a notebook at Walgreens that was about the size of the Nook. It protected the screen, but I wanted more than that. I wanted something I could carry without worrying about smooshing and which could be an easel.
I wound up investing WAY too much time getting to where I am, but I like a lot of what I've got.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=537935&d=1299698667
The case is based on a canvas hardbound sketchbook (I just feel wrong killing a book to house an e-reader) and goes from there to build in a wood frame, a strong magnetic closure, and high-friction surfaces (velvet and corduroy) for the inside front and outside back covers to keep it from skidding off when laying down. There's a little velcro "tail" that can be used to support it like an easel in landscape mode, and a seatbelt to help it resist falling over. I'd hate to add velcro to the interior to hold it in place, but it could be done. I'm still thinking about how to do something more like a slide-in channel to really hold the device between the upper and lower posts.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=537936&d=1299698667
Total materials cost is pretty high, probably around 20 - 25 bucks. And build time is more manageable now, but it was off the hook when I started, of course.
I'm very pleased with the overall design.
The main thing I like about all the actual book book-based designs is that they don't scream "I have a fancy electronic toy."
Has anybody tried gluing some velcro strips on the back of the nook and on the cover to hold it instead of the elastic bands?
That would totally work. In my case, I decided that I wanted this case not to have that.
The old Handsprings had a manufacturer supplied cover that was very elegant - it snapped into a hardshell with "fangs" top and bottom to protect teh face. To use, remove from the fangs and face out. I had no problem putting velcro onto the cover, then putting that into a nice Body Glove zipper case.

I was thinking of using some double sided acrylic foam tape from 3M. I have LOADS of that stuff at home. But i like the idea of being able to remove the Nook Color. The Velco would be the ideal way to go if you wanted to remove it, however to strong of a Velco and you'll end up bending the card board of the book cover....I think i might end up using the bands to hold it in place and some light duty velco to keep it from sliding around.
So it worked out for me.
My previous phone was a Droid and I would always mount it on my windshield with the Motorola brand mount. So I grew tired of having my Play just sitting in the cup holder or on the seat and did some work.
I cut up the piece that my Droid phone docked on to

front piece that came from the ebay case for the XP on the left
rear pic of the phone dock part already stuck to the rear piece of the ebay case
a front shot of the Rear ebay piece and the arm of the Motorola Car Mount
Mitch alltogether
I used "Contact Stik" Heavy Duty adhesive strips from Home Depot to mount the dock that I cut up to the rear case. Feels really sturdy already, I'm sure once it sets more it will only come off with excessive force. I shook the phone around with it mounted to the arm and it didn't fall out, so everything's good so far.
About the case not being easily removable from the phone: I sanded the small tabs that clip on to the phone so it's easier to remove, if you do this make sure you don't sand too much or the case will no longer clip on to the phone causing the case to come off easily, or if you mount it like I did the phone to fall out of the case.
So to summerize, I used
Ebay Case
Motorola Car Mount for Droid
a small hacksaw
and some heavy duty adhesive
Now to see how the adhesive holds up against 100 degree Texas heat tomorrow. Will post results.
PS: the droid mount has a tiny magnet in it that you may want to remove if you do this, it's behind the loose door of the dock. The magnet activates the car mode in the droid, I took it out because I don't want to run the risk of the magnet messing up my XP.
Nice work,
I found this http://www.sonyxperiaplayaccessories.com/sony-ericsson-xperia-play-vent-mount-oem-14013.html
but it is for air vents not windscreens.
Nice mod!
I've never had the need to mount my phone to the car. May I ask what benefit this is to you?
I think it would be good for GPS and calling.

I like not having my phone rolling around while driving, great for when I'm using navigation because it's in my view while driving, also I listen to music and podcast apps A LOT and it's easier to reach out in front of me than fumbling with my phone in the cup holder. Just basic convenience
On a "doh!" note, I sanded a little too much of the clip and the phone fell off while I was driving on a rough road, lol. I ordered another $5 case and will try not to sand so much of the clipping part this time around, or maybe not sand it at all. I checked in on it during lunch and the adhesive has held up to the heat. So I'll just have to replace the case and use another strip of adhesive. Oh well.

very nice car dock!
I m just using the DK300 media dock as the car dock
the only down side is the screen lock itself after a phone call, and unlock during portrait is hard. cos there's no landscape lockscreen unless I slide open the joypad.
Nicely Done
You should mass produce this.
not to dig up an old thread but something like this:
http://www.cellphoneshop.net/playholster.html might have a little more gentle release to it. Just cut the swivel clip off and away you go. I think I'm gonna try it!
I attached a lot of Blue Tack to the bottom of the dock, Works perfect, Does not fall out either.
Hello,
So I looked around this forum to see if anyone had any bike mounts that they used for their m8.
It seems like there's very few of us who don't like armbands and bike bags don't seem large enough to hold an HTC One m8.
So with that in mind, I've decided to post to help out people in a similar situation.
My HTC One m8 has an otterbox defender case (so it's quite large)
Here's some photos of the Nite Ize Universal Handlebar Mount
{

}
Based on the specs, the m8 with the defender case sits just outside the max range of this mount. But I figured it's made of rubber so maybe I could be stretched a millimetre more.
The Mount uses one piece of rubber the stretches under the handlebar and then wraps around your phone to then hook onto the metal piece.
I had to attach it to my handlebar because the handle bar was thinner, giving me more rubber to wrap around the phone. I tried placing the Mount on the top of the Fork, but it was too thick.
I believe my handlebar is 1 inch in diameter. But I'll check it more precisely when I get a measuring tape.
As you can see its primarily used for Apple iPhone as the space in front of the phone seems to favour the slide to unlock method.
Because the defender case is so thick and large, I had to force the rubber to stretch into the clip, it's on pretty snugly, and I doubt it'd fall off. I've ridden off road in grassy parks so far with no issues or worry that it'd fall off. And even if it did... I believe in the defender!
From the above photo, you can see how the rubber band hooks in place. Without the cross section where the phone is resting on, the Mount will definitely rotate and face the ground, due to the heavy phone and gravity.
Here's the other side of the Mount, you can see how it wraps around the handle bar. That metal piece is the single metal piece that extends to the other side for the rubber to hook on to.
I haven't ridden on mountain bike trails yet. As its still cold here. But so far this mount looks promising, especially if you use tasker or anything of the like, to automatically disable lock screen and whatnot. The the band really gets in the way of unlocking the phone.
For my purposes, it fits the use I need it for. A position near the front of the bike that can maintain a connection to my bluetooth headphones (non noise cancelling of course), ease of access and not attached to my body (in the event I wipe out... But then again.. If I wipe out, the bike will definitely wipe out and worse, with my phone firmly attached for the ride...)
But this post is for those who wants to know whether this mount can support the huge defender case. And yes it can.. Provided your handlebar is not thick.
Enjoy!

On my specialized tarmac, road bike, I keep it on the top tube right in front of the stem. Holds like a champ. On my Mtb, fs specialized epic comp carbon, on a very aggressive downhill, it came off and bounced.....on the trails it held just fine. Don't know how it would handle a hardtail on trails, don't have one.
Only thing I spend more time on then my phone is my bikes....

Been using this since January and it has held up through tumbles with my N5. I have nothing but faith for this. Also comes with those little felt circular things you put under furniture to put on the inside corners to add padding. Plus the red and black went too well with my theme lol(you know you do it too).

Well i have never been a fan of cases or so, i always normally used my phones naked, because i think im paying the design more than the inner stuff (nobody thinks of it hehehe), but this phone seems to be a bit more delicate than any other so i`ve been searching for cases or bumpers for this beauty and obviously keeping the design and elegance.
i own 3 cases and this, by far, the most that i liked. I´ll give you my opinion and a mini-review, also the link for anyone who is interested on buying it
First, as title says, its an aluminium bumper, but what a quality, its extremely well done and very esthetic.
This is how it comes in, from here you can tell the great quality product

It comes in two parts, and see the cutouts for the speaker grill, usb porting charge, and 3.5mm jack
and now, mounted on the phone, look the details
I picked up this color for a reason, as you can see my phone is the gold one so the bumper red, so i made a waaaaaay cheaper IRON MAN version
PROS:
-well done design made by high quality materials
-inner side has a protective layer to prevent of scratching the phone
-keeps the width phone and the thin edge line
-even i have no tested it yet, i think it will provide a bit of protection to the sides of the phone
CONS:
-to be very aesthetic, does not provide greater protection to the screen or the back, it comes flush
-maybe the headphone jack cut out won't fit all of you, it depends on each one (at least its not a problem to me)
In general, this is and excellent accessory for those how likes to brag the design and at the same time adding a bit of protection, buttons fells very straight, great assembly, nice painting, very sharp lines mimicking design`s phone this "effect" could be achieved even more picking up the same color as your phone, but the red one makes mine the Iron man hehe, but this is not for those how wants to extremely protect your phone
here the link, the price is nice, 10 bucks, free shipping and arrived in about 3 weeks

It is for me, although the sides seems sharp, they are not so, grip is a bit better due to a wider sides, maybe if you hold the phone by placing your pinky finger at the bottom you could feel discomfort only if it's on the headphone jack cutout

Thanks for that, id have to get a protector for the back, obviously for protection and also to make the back a bit less slippy. Thanks.
I can confirm its a great case !

I had similar experience. Even worse than the scratches, GPS signal is degraded, still functional...but takes longer to get a lock.
