[Q] How can I repair my G1? - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there,
I've been trying to fix my G1's digitizer for some time now, and it hasn't been too successful. When I acquired the G1, it had no battery cover, banged up covers, and a bulging battery. Since then, I've done a full swap of the housing (entire case, new battery, hardware buttons, LCD, ribbons, and digitizer) and still no results with the digitizer detecting any touch input on the phone.
If anyone's skilled to help repair my G1, can you please assist me with this? I'm willing to ship the phone out and pay accordingly depending on how severe the issue is, and whether more parts need to be replaced.
Or, if there is a way to get professional repairs (maybe even HTC accepting to repair it), how much would it cost to get it functional? I'm at a loss to what is wrong, considering i replaced everything short of the actual board components.

Try this.

[Q] Touch Screen & LCD Screen Broken (Need replacement suggestions)

My HTC Hero has a broken touch screen and LCD screen.
Can anyone suggest a cheap place to get them from?
And if anyone is wondering how it broke, I ran it over with my van.
Not intentionally of course.
Phone is from Alltel so it would be $95 to claim it on insurance
Also does anyone have any suggestions what I can put on the screen until I can replace it? It's rough on the fingers to use because of the cracks.
EBAY
Yup eBay has every spare part you would want for your Hero. I just ordered a digitizer yesterday (thats your screen), and that all you need to replace if behind the broken digitizer is a clear picture on your lcd.
This has happened to me twice. I got replacement on ebay for 30 dollars. It includes the whole front panel, touch screen digitizer, and lcd screen. It took me 5 minutes to replace. Just a couple of screws and a connector. Easy Peasy!
I dropped my hero yesterday as well. There was no damage to the screen/ LCD but there are a few scratches to the body. Are there replacements for that as well?
Supposedly sprint will fix any physical damages to the phone, as long as it still works.
supposed to do it for $35 in store without the $7 protection plan.
http://bit.ly/g5RfAB < Goes to the repair part of sprint's website.
I haven't tried it, so let us know if they will fix it.
I was quoted $35 by two different sprint stores to replace my screen. Still haven't fixed it yet, it is only a small crack in the corner and doesn't bug me that much.

Put regular tape over it
http://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-HERO-OEM-LC...919428?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3f057b8004
I bought that before..include LCD, Digitizer, and Front Bezel. The bezel was scuffed up and had a few nicks but the digitizer and LCD were in perfect condition.
Don't try that at home
Based on personal experience
I strongly advise against attempting a DIY screen replacement.
Here's my sad story:
1) I dropped my poor little hero, then managed to step on it screen down, completely scratching the entire screen surface.
2) I went on eBay and spent about $40 for a replacement screen/digitizer kit.
3) The kit arrived 10 days later. Very nice package - appeared to be high quality.
4) I followed the directions to the letter. (fwiw I'm generally pretty skilled at this sort of repair stuff, and have repaired other phones and computers with good results).
5) My little hero is no more. It works like crap. None of the buttons work correctly. The trackball no longer works consistently. It's essentially unusable (except maybe as a backup storage device).
If any good can come of this, perhaps it will be that others will read my sad tale and avoid a similar fate!

Jim

When you stepped on it it probably damaged the motherboard or some other part because the digitizer doesn't really have anything to do with the trackball.
You do have to make sure the trackball housing is inserted correctly in the new bezel. Also, do not overtighten the screws on the bottom or the buttons work wonky. I just tightened them a little, checked, and made sure I didn't over tighten.

Screen Re calibrate?

The very right side edge of the screen isnt working on my wifes phone. Is it a hardware issue? or just in need of recalibration? Known issue? Thanks
It's a hardware issue. The digitizer is going bad. There are posts about people "repairing" them with hair driers and ovens. You can also buy a replacement on ebay and attempt to replace it.
Hey! I got the same issue on my A853 Milestone (ghost touch, then some parts of the screen not working anymore). The problem is not necessarily on the digitizer. I suggest you to disassemble the phone and to verify the integrity of the flex cable. Mine was very used and I made the same mistake - I spent money on a new digitizer without checking the other component. So, first check that then buy the right part. Good luck! Best wishes from RO!

[Q] Where to get a replacement digitizer

I dropped my revo the other day, and for the most part, the phone took it like a champ. The digitizer cracked, but all other functions, including the lcd screen itself, remain intact and functioning.
Does anyone have any suggestions where I should get a new digitizer? I'm somewhat skeptical of getting one from a place like repair universe, but if the quality is acceptable, I don't think i could beat the price.
screw it. i just bought a used phone off ebay for just a little more than the digitizers. if one of developers wants a revolution to play with, let me know. or maybe i'll start trying to figure it out.

[Q] LCD + SIM Flex Cable Connectors Broken - Suggestions?

First time poster here and wanted to start by saying thanks to the members on here who have spent countless hours teaching others how to root, unlock, flash custom ROMs, etc. Your guidance has provided lots of fun in the Android world.
Recently, the LCD glass screen had shattered on my HTC One, and I had purchased a replacement front and back. Upon transferring the motherboard + the secondary chip to the new housing, I accidentally broke off the flex cable connectors for the LCD screen and SIM card. Upon completion of reassembly, I crossed my fingers as I pressed the power button, only to be met with the initial power-on vibration and no image on the LCD. Unfortunately, I can't verify if the SIM slot is working without the LCD, but I'd assume it isn't.
Anyway, thanks for listening to my story. I've supplemented it with pictures indicating where I messed up. The first picture is the motherboard. Compare the two connectors contained in the red circle. The left one has the white tab, while the right is missing its white tab. The second picture is the SIM connector to the secondary board. As you may notice yet again, the white connector is missing. If anyone has legit/illegit solutions to this problem, I'd love to hear from you.
Thanks in advance!

unless you have high soldering skills, you should go to a repair shop to get these pcb connectors replaced or even send it to htc. I highly doubt htc will replace the connectors but may replace the entire main board which probably won't be cheap at all.
or the other solution if its to expensive, buy a ''for parts or not working'' M7 from ebay and remove the motherboard to service your phone. (i.e a unit that have a cracked screen but still able to boot) Don't forget it must have a clean imei.
btw I don't understand how you managed to broke that connector tab, it should unlock easily with delicate force with a precision screwdriver..

Thanks for the help, appreciate the honesty.
I'll chalk it up to inexperience, with this being my first attempt at phone surgery. Hopefully the second attempt will go much, much smoother.
Will keep an eye out for HTC One's with a cracked screen!

I know exactly how you broke it off. There's four of those connectors and two of them have a different type of flip. It's silly. I have the exact same problem too.
Did you end up getting yours fixed?

[Q] Replacing a Xperia Z1 Cracked Digitizer

Hello everyone!
I bought a Xperia Z1 two weeks ago, and it was the best phone I have ever had.
However my idiot brother Managed to crack the Digitizer a few days back, the display is still working and the phone powers up but the touch panel is unresponsive.
(He was playing with one of those Heavy Snake Egg magnets, he threw the magnet into the air, and landed right on my phone. I'm surprised the Display is still working. )
Anyways, I was wondering if anyone here has replaced only the Touch Panel. I know on the Xperia Z1 its fused with the LCD, however with a machine like the Scotle PR-1000 its possible to separate the LCD from the touch panel.
Here is the link to a video showing the process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8bZi3FreMk
Now I have a few questions such as:
-With this method, wont the LCD display be scratched up as well?
-When I replace the touch screen with a new touch panel using this method, will it look normal? Or will it look like it has been opened and repaired?
-With a new digitizer, is the phone still waterproof capable? (I dont really care about the waterproof capabilities that much anyways.)
Thanks!
Can anyone help me?
You could just replace the entire display module, digitizer, LCD, and all. This would be the cleaner and easier way of replacing it with fewer potential problems. As far as waterproofing goes, I am not sure. Those are sort of uncharted waters (no pun intended) as far as repairs go. If I were you, I would assume not just to be on the safe side, until further knowledge presented itself. I hope this info helps!
FOr the past few days thats what I was thinking.
Especially since where I live most Cellphone "technicians" are just people with a very limited knowledge of electronics, and would most probably mess up the phone even further.
after placing a few calls to some shops I managed to find a replacement LCD+Digitizer+Frame, but I do not know how good the quality of the replacement unit would be.
Dear WEM97 and other users,
I have the same problem as Akash434. Could you please briefly elaborate on what the (potential) problem could be with just replacing the Digitizer. I can't really decide what to replace the LCD+Digitizer or only Digitizer. I understand replacing the whole LCD unit along is a far, far easier process. But cost wise it's also almost the double (atleast where i live).
Upon removing the Digitizer, should the old glue be removed (if any). What kind of glue should I use to stick the new Digitizer? Will u see that there was glue used? These are just a few questions I am struggling with.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
PS: I apologize for any grammar mistakes. English is not my native language.
you can't do this without a professional machine

This is my video and the description will send you to the links to fix it yourself
Otherwise get a shop to fix it... although most regular shops won't fix it... or get sony to fix it if you wanna continue your warranty
Place the phone on a heatable-3dprinter-bed and warme it up the temperature you want - digitizer was falling of the display last time i repaired my z1. I heated it up to disassemble. Now it is cracked again and i just don´t know how to glue the digitizer on... If i would change digitizer
