The very right side edge of the screen isnt working on my wifes phone. Is it a hardware issue? or just in need of recalibration? Known issue? Thanks
It's a hardware issue. The digitizer is going bad. There are posts about people "repairing" them with hair driers and ovens. You can also buy a replacement on ebay and attempt to replace it.
Hey! I got the same issue on my A853 Milestone (ghost touch, then some parts of the screen not working anymore). The problem is not necessarily on the digitizer. I suggest you to disassemble the phone and to verify the integrity of the flex cable. Mine was very used and I made the same mistake - I spent money on a new digitizer without checking the other component. So, first check that then buy the right part. Good luck! Best wishes from RO!

I recently broke the screen of my Leo T8585 and replaced the LCD + Digitizer with an original Hong Kong part.
After disconecting the working shattered part the digitizer never worked again. Even the shattered one ceased to work completely (LCD is working fine but digitizer has no response). A second replacement part was ordered and the problem persists, ie, replacement part is not the problem. Also part number is correct.
Can anyone tell me if there is a specific precedure for this replacement? Could there be a hardware/software lock I need to open? Strip contacts have been checked and are fine.
thanks in advance
:O damn, a lot of people getting their HD2s smashed, here i was thinking i was the only one. I recently replaced my digitizer & LCD aswell.
As far as i know there is no soft/hardware locks present. In case you have checked that allll connectors are properly connected i can only guess that an electrostatic discharge might have caused damage to the hardware. . . But in case you were wearing an ESD wrist strap which i recommend using (by no means i don't want to sound like a smartass) i havn't got a faintest idea
Well.. replying to a totally old post but.. what the hell, maybe it will help and/or help others who encounter similar problems.
I bought the Pure in November. Since then its been in a case 100% of the time, NO drops, NO water damage. Last week it developed the "spot" shown on the picture. It looks like a thumbprint, almost. Its unlocked, hard spl'ed, and was running a custom ROM but I reflashed to stock ROM in desperation. I am just stumped and more than a little ticked off-I mean I bought it unsubsidized and it crapped out quicker than my husbands $20.00 Nokia. The touchscreen does function normally though. I contacted HTC, who told me to contact AT&T. I'm guess I'm trying to figure out if its worth trying to replace the digitizer or just sell it to gazelle.com for the 50 bucks they offered. Thanks for any help you can offer.
Hello, I've had this problem on my diamond2, I took it to my operator and they program from replacing the front panel, the problem is that the digitizer glued to the screen. Good luck and I hope I have helped!
Thank you, that does help! I'll call AT&T now.
I had the same problem just sent it into ATT to get fixed.
Screen Problem
Unfortunately, I have seen it. I'm seeing it right now- take a look at the attachments.... So this is possibly not the display itself and may be the digitizer fusing somehow with the display, huh?/ Would anyone know where to get the take- apart for this phone??? Actually, what AT&T is calling the Pure is the HTC Warhawk ST6356- I paid cash for mine so I wouldn't have to commit, so sending or calling AT&T probably won't help me....

Search for newton rings, you may be able to fix it by applying duct tape and trying to separate the layers.
Otherwise you will find digitizer replacement instructions if you search here.
its same to meee
how to fix it
I had this problem before, after my phone had a 1 feet fall to the ground. Surprisingly, it slowly went away. After a few days, it's totally gone! Lucky me!

That's LCD internal bleeding, fixed a few with that issue.
LCD is simple to replace & the digitizer is a little harder as it is bonded to the front casing.
The LCD % digitizer are totally separate & are not bonded as some people suggest.
The Diamond 2 is one of the easiest HTC devices to dismantle which is fortunate as the quality of LCD & digitizers mean you need to dismantle them frequently.

this is definitely the digitiser problem. I have the same problem for almost one year, but i manneget to overcome it with the solution i have discribed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5496201&postcount=78
i do not exactly what it is and why does it happening. but you can order a new digitiser from ebay for 5-10 USD and install it by your self, of course if your have applied for waranty repair already and they have refused to you.

Mister b, did you say you fixed a few of the ATT HTC Pure with this issue?? It seems fairly straightforward to replace, all except for the lower portion of the case. I can take the screws out of the top and I see how it comes apart, but it is still somehow attached at the bottom and I have pulled as hard as I dare. This phone is my "daily driver" I can't destroy it in an attempt to fix it. Any idea where I can get a take-apart manual or vid for the Pure, or do you know how the bottom portion attaches?

I think on your model mentioned 2 lower screws are hidden under removable trim panel under buttons !
Youtube for a dismantling guide or look in wiki section.
So, about a week ago my N1 started to not respond to any touches on the screen at all. I was under the impression that this would be a faulty digitizer and so I ordered one off of amazon. It was supposed to come with the t5 screwdriver and other parts needed to take apart the nexus. However, it did not.
Therefore, I'm under a bit of a time constraint to get this fixed and I took it to a cell phone repair store today. The guy at the counter told me that with it not responding to touches at all (screen itself looks perfect), that it was the LCD that needed to be replaced and not the digitizer. Is this true?
TLDR - Screen displays properly but does not register keypresses. Is this a faulty digitizer or LCD?
The Digitizer is responsible with the touches... It could be some software issue? What ROM do you use? Reinstall it. Install Multi-touch tester from Market and see what it's happen...

Thought of that as well... I reinstalled a few different ROMs multiple times and can't even get past any of the setup screens. I'll replace the digitizer and see what happens from there. Thanks!
With pleasure! I think the guy from repair shop wanted to fool you...
Hello guys have a problem with my htc vivid's(have 2 of them)!
To start the story with i got a cracked vivid phone from ebay and thought of replacing the screen, i also got a digitizer from some hong-kong seller, the screen arrived and i looked up some videos on youtube and fixed the screen myself, everything seemed to have gone fine, but when i switched on the phone after replacement the bottom half of the screen would not work! only the top hald of the screen worked, i assumed it was a faulty digitizer and ordered another digitizer!
Meanwhile i got another vivid off ebay, this was also a damaged one ( the seller told the LCD was dimming but digitizer was working) so i thought of replacing its LCD and got it off, this phone also arrived so i had one phone with bad digitizer and other with bad LCD i ordered an LCD also so b4 it arrives i thought i would change the digitizer from the bad LCD phone to the bad digitizer phone so i will have one complete working phone!
When i started to open the bad LCD phone i realised it was a water damaged phone, but the digitizer was fine so i removed its digitizer carefully and put onto the bad digitizer phone and switched it on, but again the same problem! top half woking bottom half not working! so i thought ill change the motherboard of the bad digitizer phone with the bad LCD phone and after doing that the digitizer would not work at all!!
i dunno what to do now i dunno where im going wrong any sort of help or duggestions would be greatly appreciated, and if you guys are having hard time understanding any part of the story let me know will try to explain that part as clearly as possible, thanks in advance! hope i get ou of this problem soon
Are you sure that both motherboards were in working order.? I would suspect the motherboard you installed is faulty...is that motherboard the one which was on the waterdamaged phone? If it were me I would put the motherboard back in that at least had the screen half on and then troubleshoot from there....I've replaced a few screens but not enough to give a good resolution...I would proceed by process of elimination on components you know, for sure, are working before you install them...and its totally plausable that a new replacement part can be faulty...I'm not sure man, just my two cents worth...I would scour xda for others who have had screen issues..one post probably won't fix your particular issue but a few different ones might...ill look too and post link if I find something...

Just "scored" a 32 gb HP TP off CL for $100..only thing is he informed me that the touch screen was a little glitchy at times. So, I just decided to take it apart and fix it myself since it was already halfway opened Actually the digitizer wasnt even glued sufficient because while prying the case open, the digitizer came unstuck. So I didnt have to remove anything from the bezel just unclip the connectors and analyze the problem. I haven't gotten the replacement digitizer yet. Just wondering if this replacement or any of the other numerous listings on ebay would be ok before i bought it.
Also, he said he replaced the digitizer before..could the problem not be with the digitizer? When I opened everything up and reattached the connectors, it seemed like it functioned better than before but it was still a dead zone. Holding the TP upright, the row containing the numerical buttons dont function, as well as certain portions to the top of the device.
You need a new digitizer control board, not digitizer glass. And as far as I know they are not sold.

ugh...i wonder what goes wrong with the boards. It seems like its really nothing on them that could mess up unless a solder joint is bad or bent, etc. But the "good" news is it looks like he didnt try to replace the digitizer at all or if he did he put in an OEM replacement but i think thats highly doubtable. The digitizer has the same OEM stickers as the ones on the motherboards and every where else. So im holding out hope that the new replacement may correct the problem but..idk..
Side note:
Ok..im not understanding why the douche chose to try and repair it himself when it's still actually within the year warranty. He got it in DEC 2011...warranty is good til' October 2012 it says. I talked to HP and they said it was under warranty and sent me a box to ship it back. I was going to ship it back, but upon further inspection you can see where the azz pryed open the case. I didn't want to prolong the process of getting it fixed by having them just tell me that i voided the warranty, and sending it back to me...so i opted to do it myself. Any one have any testimonials with sending back opened Touchpads? Do they inspect them "good" before repairing?
If all else fails i guess ill just take the chance and send it back to HP.
update:
Just Received the digitizer from the ebay store posted in my first post. Works like a charm...guessing it was just the digitizer after all. Im now the proud owner of a 32gb HP Touchpad for $124.89 Case Closed!
