[Q] TouchPad Digitizer Issues? - TouchPad Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just "scored" a 32 gb HP TP off CL for $100..only thing is he informed me that the touch screen was a little glitchy at times. So, I just decided to take it apart and fix it myself since it was already halfway opened Actually the digitizer wasnt even glued sufficient because while prying the case open, the digitizer came unstuck. So I didnt have to remove anything from the bezel just unclip the connectors and analyze the problem. I haven't gotten the replacement digitizer yet. Just wondering if this replacement or any of the other numerous listings on ebay would be ok before i bought it.
Also, he said he replaced the digitizer before..could the problem not be with the digitizer? When I opened everything up and reattached the connectors, it seemed like it functioned better than before but it was still a dead zone. Holding the TP upright, the row containing the numerical buttons dont function, as well as certain portions to the top of the device.

You need a new digitizer control board, not digitizer glass. And as far as I know they are not sold.

nooooooooooooooooooooo...i already ordered it. fml

I bought digitizer and changed it for repair. But... Nothing happened on my TP I think it need digitizer control board. so I search on Google

Sent from my XT862 using XDA

ugh...i wonder what goes wrong with the boards. It seems like its really nothing on them that could mess up unless a solder joint is bad or bent, etc. But the "good" news is it looks like he didnt try to replace the digitizer at all or if he did he put in an OEM replacement but i think thats highly doubtable. The digitizer has the same OEM stickers as the ones on the motherboards and every where else. So im holding out hope that the new replacement may correct the problem but..idk..
Side note:
Ok..im not understanding why the douche chose to try and repair it himself when it's still actually within the year warranty. He got it in DEC 2011...warranty is good til' October 2012 it says. I talked to HP and they said it was under warranty and sent me a box to ship it back. I was going to ship it back, but upon further inspection you can see where the azz pryed open the case. I didn't want to prolong the process of getting it fixed by having them just tell me that i voided the warranty, and sending it back to me...so i opted to do it myself. Any one have any testimonials with sending back opened Touchpads? Do they inspect them "good" before repairing?
If all else fails i guess ill just take the chance and send it back to HP.

update:
Just Received the digitizer from the ebay store posted in my first post. Works like a charm...guessing it was just the digitizer after all. Im now the proud owner of a 32gb HP Touchpad for $124.89 Case Closed!

Cracked Screen

Hey,
Just looking for some advice where I should go for a cheap solution on how to fix my phone. Basically, everything still works great! Apart from the big crack, the screen doesn't seem to have been damaged (eg. All the pixels look fine, touch still works, only glass/plastic panel is cracked)
I'm actually really impressed by how it took such a hard hit and the device works fine, the screen didn't even smash! Basically it nudged in between my car seat where you close the door, didn't realise it fell out my pocket and closed the door (you could imagine it would be a hard hit) and the phone lives.
If I just needed the glass replaced, can it be done DIY? Or should I not bother and give it to a service centre? I got it from 3 but I know they'll probably overcharge me for something like this..
Any suggestions welcome, thanks!
if the damage is only to the exterior screen then you may want to consider getting this:
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/17042.htm
be carful! the screen from my firlfreidns diamond is broken too and I had ordered one of those touchscreens... but the screen which comes has no "window" for the frontcamera and after disassembling the phone I saw that it is NOT POSSIBLE to remove the touchscreenglas from the frame.
Replacement LCD & Digitiser
I recently replaced an lcd and digitiser on a HTC Touch Diamond. I bought the complete screen (lcd & digitiser) as one pre-assembled unit from a guy on Ebay (£34.99). Fits straight into the front of the unit frame. I don't think you can remove just the digitiser because it is stuck onto the LCD, and the LCD itself is very fragile. Disassembly is fairly straight forward if you've got the right tools.
Thanks for all your help guys! I've just been bogged down with work so havn't been able to get back here for awhile.
I've taken some time to look into the webiste and others, decided to just order it off ebay in the end anyways. However, taking note from the previous 2 posts, would I be wasting my time ordering just the digitiser itself? I would assume that's what HerrVorragend also meant by "that it is NOT POSSIBLE to remove the touchscreenglas from the frame."
If so, why do they bother selling them online separately? I guess I won't really find an answer, just seems stupid to me. Anyways, guess I'm stuck purchasing both LCD + Digitiser but as a final question, does anyone have any guidelines as how I should replace this myself? I'm very paranoid about this sort of thing because it's only 1 month old, however, I have also replaced an LCD on my old Nokia 6280 before using a step-by-step picture guide online.
Don't think I'd have much luck finding one for this model, hey.. haha.
Once again, thanks!
Double posted, sorry.

If you google for HTC Diamond Service Manual, that will help greatly with assembly and disassembly - there are also a couple of videos on Youtube. From my experience the most tricky part is re-connecting the two flex connectors when you re-install the main board. I use the back of a pair of tweezers to slide underneath the connector carefully. If you are nervous about doing it and happy to cover postage costs, I can replace the LCD for you - PM me for details and I'll see what i can do.

Damaged Digitizer or LCD Screen? Help please :(

Hi,
Last night I knocked a small table and my girlfriends phone and a remote for the TV fell off.
We noticed that her phone now has a ring of black dots on the screen, mostly visible with a white background (E.G websites) but also from the home screen and the like.
We think she's cancelled her phone insurance, as she's never had a payment out to the company.
Can anyone tell me if its a Digitizer (What is one of these? Is it just the touch screen sensitive part of the phone?) Or the actual LCD Screen itself?
If you click on the photo it will load a larger image
Thanks for any assistance, kinda annoyed about this and wondering if I can repair myself with the parts on ebay. Or does anyone know how much HTC Charge to repair similar? Either in $USD, £GBP or €Eur, I can convert and get a ball park figure.
Hi
First of all is the phone still in warranty? If so take it back to an HTC dealer they should repair it for you for free. TD2 screens are not very good and it's a common fault. ( i had to have mine repaired after just only 3 weeks! )
The TD2 screen is made out of 2 parts, The touch screen or the 'digitizer' as you call it and a normal LCD screen underneath. You need to establish which has gone faulty.
If the touch screen still operates normally i.e the screen does not lock up or freeze and allows you to navigate normally then its the lcd screen below. If the touch screen is faulty one good way of checking is to put a piece of tape over the damaged area and try to lift it up a little to see if the marks / dots disappear and functionality can temporarily be restored.
Its hard to tell from your picture which it is..... sorry
I'm not sure how much a replacement by a dealer would cost, but i'm sure you can replace either yourself. ebay is a good place to look
Hope this helps.
I've had a reply from HTC UK who said the following:
That looks like there are a bunch of very small cracks in the screen. the black stuff is likely the Liquid Crystal from inside the display that has leaked out. If the dots get larger then it would definitely seem that the screen has got some cracks in it.
if this is the case, the standard charge for replacing the LCD is around £180 as sadly it is all one complete unit on the diamond 2, so it is not just the LCD underneath that needs to be replaced, but the whole screen assembly including the touchscreen layer and the actual LCD.
I hope this information helps you to make up your mind.
best regards,
Pete W

I'll see if I can find any HTC Dealer who will send it off on my behalf, but may just end up buying this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LCD-Screen-Di...UK_Mobiles_Accessories_RL?hash=item588362a12d
Hi mate,
had the same problem...
the item you psetd from ebay is not the one you need to change.
you need a digitizer, not an lcd screen.
i got one from ebay (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemVersion&item=290376721935&view=all&tid=393718237019), it includes both the lcd and the digitizer, you can check ebay to find other auctions offering the digitizer only.
you can change the digitizer on your own if you don't mind loosing the waranty of your phone.
cheers
Hi,
I had already found this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Touch-Screen-...UK_Mobiles_Accessories_RL?hash=item5882e7ef74
Will buy in a bit, funds are a bit short today.
The Touch Screen's functionality hasn't changed at all though, no sticking buttons or anything. So I suspect that its the LCD Screen thats damaged but will follow you're advise as you're going to have more experiance than me (and its the cheaper part to begin with!)
Scrap the above post.. my g/f has just told me that the dots on her phone are bigger/worse. Looks like its the LCD Screen afterall
i still believe it is not the LCD.
the digitizer is actually sitted on a glass, and the LCD is below that. it is very difficult to harm the LCD. i also though it was the LCD (at least i wasn't sure which was broken) so i ordered both of them.
if you disasseble the phone you will be sure if it is the LCD or not.
i vote for the digitizer
good luck, if you need any help, i'll be pleased to help you..
Just to update, A few days after I posted and got helpful advice on here.. she called me up to say the dots have disappeared, and they have still gone now a few days after.
She said she put it in the office where she works, under a printer paper tray, and the office was warm. Something has (maybe only temporarily) fixed it.
I´m having the same exact problem my nephew dropped my phone, i already dissemble it because i was not sure of the lcd type, but when i looked at the digitizer i didn´t see any dots, so i´m not sure what to repair, TS or Digitizer, i allready tried with the tape to pull the digitizer, when it was apart i couldn´t see anything on the lcd no marks at all, opinions please.
cheers
Well F**K me! just bought a second hand diamond 2 to replace my xperia...
...seemed to work great checking it out... went home with the phone in my pocket... and as soon as I turn it on the touch screen doesn't work
dissected the whole phone only to discover the digitizer is glued to the bezel!
I ordered this from Ebay, will update if I got it working with the brand new housing + digitizer: http://cgi.ebay.it/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380166349182&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

If you can make some photos of the digitizer and the lcd dissasembled maybe, but It seems unlikely to break the lcd when you didn't completely trashed your digitizer.

Also the LCD didn´t had any marks at all, but i´m going to buy the TS+LCD and replaced by parts first the lcd because it´s a lot easier to replace then if the problem persists the TS.
I will post the result later when i get the parts to replace.

Can anyone confirm the above link as being both Lcd and Digitizer? I'm sure it doesn't mention it in the listing but the picture looks like it's showing both connectors.
Most likely only the LCD that's my conclusion if you look at the sellers store.
But to be sure e-mail the seller and ask.

Soooooo, as I've already posted here, My digitizer was busted on the phone I just bought... what I didn't tell was that I ordered a digitizer, then checked if I could remove it easily...came to the conclusion that I couldn't... and ordered a digitizer+housing so I could easily fit it on.
the mail brought me the digitizer today, and while knowing a better solution was on it's way I couldn't resist and try if I could make it work.
Turns out it super easy to seperate the digitizer from the bezel using a hairdryer (softening the glue) and a knife:
Take your phone apart, just the 4 screws, click the plastic center off it. Remove the digitizer cable, the touchscreen cable and the speaker cable.
now you are able to remove the green plate which holds all chips and stuff.
underneath that is the screen, lift it up gently going under it from the gap the removal of volume buttons leaves, put it away safely.
Now remove the speaker, the buttons under the zoom bar, and the power button(don't forget the the power button, and rubbery thingy that falls out of the bottom, the hole needs to be at the bottom when putting it back in).
your phone should be completely empty by now... just the front and the digitize glued together.
make the front of the phone reaaaaaaaaaallllly hot, put the knive between the metal and the digitizer (I started at the part where the zoombar is) and gently push it between the two parts... (from the inside of the phone to the oudside). Now just keep the whole thing above the dryer to keep it warm and slowly slice your way around the phone (no secret wires are there that you can cut through).
I used some random glue I had lying around to glue the front back to the new digitizer... perfect!
so the screen is like new now
ps bought this digitizer: http://cgi.ebay.nl/Touch-Screen-Dig...wItemQQptZPDA_Accessories?hash=item45eed6effc
Thanks for that jodeltje.
It sounds exactly the same as when i replaced the digitizer on an Omnia. Really not as hard as one might imagine. Taking your time and being careful are the most important things.
Hey guys,
I came into same boat last night.
Dropped my T-Mobile MDA Compact V from 2.5ft table, Backwards (Not towards LCD) and now it has black dots on screen. I guess the LCD has pressed backwards by chip sets.
Here is a screenshot.
I think its LCD damaged but I don't have cash to replace nor device warranty.
Do you think the problem solves eventually? Coz once I had dropped sony mobile and it too had same issue but solved after many days.
Hopefully it solves.
BTW; does LCD affixed to Digitizer? by seeing service manual, it doesn't look like it is. And I afraid to get cheap hongkong LCD screens for about 30$ since they won't be true quality display. i.e blueish.
Thanks...
Best Regards
hello CRACING,
sorry about what happened to you...
from the picture i can say that you have a problem with the digitizer...
your LCD is ok.
i tend to have this problem over and over again the last 1,5 years... i replace the digitizer (or the glass on which the digitizer is attached to) every 3-4 months..
yes the ones you get from ebay are not that good quiality, but well it keeps the phone working...
if you need assistance on replacing the digitizer, i can help you, by providing pictures and istructions...
cheers

[Q] Screen Problem-Anyone Seen This??????

I bought the Pure in November. Since then its been in a case 100% of the time, NO drops, NO water damage. Last week it developed the "spot" shown on the picture. It looks like a thumbprint, almost. Its unlocked, hard spl'ed, and was running a custom ROM but I reflashed to stock ROM in desperation. I am just stumped and more than a little ticked off-I mean I bought it unsubsidized and it crapped out quicker than my husbands $20.00 Nokia. The touchscreen does function normally though. I contacted HTC, who told me to contact AT&T. I'm guess I'm trying to figure out if its worth trying to replace the digitizer or just sell it to gazelle.com for the 50 bucks they offered. Thanks for any help you can offer.
Hello, I've had this problem on my diamond2, I took it to my operator and they program from replacing the front panel, the problem is that the digitizer glued to the screen. Good luck and I hope I have helped!
Thank you, that does help! I'll call AT&T now.
I had the same problem just sent it into ATT to get fixed.
Screen Problem
Unfortunately, I have seen it. I'm seeing it right now- take a look at the attachments.... So this is possibly not the display itself and may be the digitizer fusing somehow with the display, huh?/ Would anyone know where to get the take- apart for this phone??? Actually, what AT&T is calling the Pure is the HTC Warhawk ST6356- I paid cash for mine so I wouldn't have to commit, so sending or calling AT&T probably won't help me....

Search for newton rings, you may be able to fix it by applying duct tape and trying to separate the layers.
Otherwise you will find digitizer replacement instructions if you search here.
its same to meee
how to fix it
I had this problem before, after my phone had a 1 feet fall to the ground. Surprisingly, it slowly went away. After a few days, it's totally gone! Lucky me!

That's LCD internal bleeding, fixed a few with that issue.
LCD is simple to replace & the digitizer is a little harder as it is bonded to the front casing.
The LCD % digitizer are totally separate & are not bonded as some people suggest.
The Diamond 2 is one of the easiest HTC devices to dismantle which is fortunate as the quality of LCD & digitizers mean you need to dismantle them frequently.

this is definitely the digitiser problem. I have the same problem for almost one year, but i manneget to overcome it with the solution i have discribed here:

i do not exactly what it is and why does it happening. but you can order a new digitiser from ebay for 5-10 USD and install it by your self, of course if your have applied for waranty repair already and they have refused to you.

Mister b, did you say you fixed a few of the ATT HTC Pure with this issue?? It seems fairly straightforward to replace, all except for the lower portion of the case. I can take the screws out of the top and I see how it comes apart, but it is still somehow attached at the bottom and I have pulled as hard as I dare. This phone is my "daily driver" I can't destroy it in an attempt to fix it. Any idea where I can get a take-apart manual or vid for the Pure, or do you know how the bottom portion attaches?

[Q] Touch Screen & LCD Screen Broken (Need replacement suggestions)

My HTC Hero has a broken touch screen and LCD screen.
Can anyone suggest a cheap place to get them from?
And if anyone is wondering how it broke, I ran it over with my van.
Not intentionally of course.
Phone is from Alltel so it would be $95 to claim it on insurance
Also does anyone have any suggestions what I can put on the screen until I can replace it? It's rough on the fingers to use because of the cracks.
EBAY
Yup eBay has every spare part you would want for your Hero. I just ordered a digitizer yesterday (thats your screen), and that all you need to replace if behind the broken digitizer is a clear picture on your lcd.
This has happened to me twice. I got replacement on ebay for 30 dollars. It includes the whole front panel, touch screen digitizer, and lcd screen. It took me 5 minutes to replace. Just a couple of screws and a connector. Easy Peasy!
I dropped my hero yesterday as well. There was no damage to the screen/ LCD but there are a few scratches to the body. Are there replacements for that as well?
Supposedly sprint will fix any physical damages to the phone, as long as it still works.
supposed to do it for $35 in store without the $7 protection plan.
http://bit.ly/g5RfAB < Goes to the repair part of sprint's website.
I haven't tried it, so let us know if they will fix it.
I was quoted $35 by two different sprint stores to replace my screen. Still haven't fixed it yet, it is only a small crack in the corner and doesn't bug me that much.

Put regular tape over it
http://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-HERO-OEM-LC...919428?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3f057b8004
I bought that before..include LCD, Digitizer, and Front Bezel. The bezel was scuffed up and had a few nicks but the digitizer and LCD were in perfect condition.
Don't try that at home
Based on personal experience
I strongly advise against attempting a DIY screen replacement.
Here's my sad story:
1) I dropped my poor little hero, then managed to step on it screen down, completely scratching the entire screen surface.
2) I went on eBay and spent about $40 for a replacement screen/digitizer kit.
3) The kit arrived 10 days later. Very nice package - appeared to be high quality.
4) I followed the directions to the letter. (fwiw I'm generally pretty skilled at this sort of repair stuff, and have repaired other phones and computers with good results).
5) My little hero is no more. It works like crap. None of the buttons work correctly. The trackball no longer works consistently. It's essentially unusable (except maybe as a backup storage device).
If any good can come of this, perhaps it will be that others will read my sad tale and avoid a similar fate!

When you stepped on it it probably damaged the motherboard or some other part because the digitizer doesn't really have anything to do with the trackball.
You do have to make sure the trackball housing is inserted correctly in the new bezel. Also, do not overtighten the screws on the bottom or the buttons work wonky. I just tightened them a little, checked, and made sure I didn't over tighten.

Replacement Touchscreen TF701T

My TF701T fell off my bed over the weekend and the screen cracked (even while in the PERFECTO case ). ASUS customer service wants to charge $200 for me to ship it to them and replace the screen. I'm trying to find somewhere online that sells the touchscreen replacement to do it myself, but can't seem to find it anywhere. Does anyone know a good source to find a replacement screen for the 701T?

Yikes, that's ridiculously expensive... I dropped mine last night and the screen cracked. The display is still alive, but it registers touches like crazy. Luckily I can still use it with my mouse to some degree...
Has anyone had luck with ordering parts directly from ASUS? There's no way i'd pay them that much for that job, and the going rate on ebay for replacement TFx00 screens (albeit every one BUT the 701, WTF!) is in the $20-$40 range. I've already got the tablet apart, and am working on separating the glass from the bezel with a hair dryer. Very easy disassembly.
I wanted to close the loop on this one since I initially asked the question. I ended up going with the tech support at ASUS, going through the RMA process, shipping my tablet to them, and having them replace the screen. In the end it was cheaper than the website above (they charged me $170), but it appears lke they sent me a new one in the end...because the invoice I got in the mail today said new, and it looks like it really is new (i.e., needing the firmware update again, not having a single thing that I had went it was sent, new registration number, etc).
So although it took them nearly a month, in the end I have my tablet back and it's smoother than ever.
I had one tf701t with a cracked digitizer and another where the LCD just failed (but the digitizer was fine). Since I was unlocked, I figured I wasn't going to get much help from Asus. I figured I'd swap the digitizer from one onto the other. I've done this on other tablets but I was unsuccessful on the tf701t. Getting the screen out was pretty easy. The hardware is close to a tf700, but one important difference is in terms of how the digitizer and LCD are attached to each other. On the tf700, there are screws to hold on the LCD. These don't exist on the tf701t and there are plastic tabs instead that don't lift up. It doesn't look like there was any intent to allow the digitizer and LCD to be separated again (unlike other tablets). I was unable to do so without damaging the LCD. I thought I did it, but when I turned it back on, the pressure required to slightly bend the LCD to separate it from the digitizer damaged it just a bit.
If anyone is able to make this repair successfully, I'd love to hear about it. Replacing the combined LCD and digitizer as a single combined unit, would actually be pretty easy given the assembly method (easier than previous Asus tablets). I think that is the planned repair process.

I successfully separated the LCD from the back of my broken digitizer without damaging it, and used the tablet for quite a while with the broken digitizer disconnected. A few weeks ago, digitizers started popping up on ebay from china, so I ordered one when they dropped from $150 down to $100. I saved all the sticky back foam for the LCD, and replaced all the sticky back tape for the bezel-glass attachment. The ribbon cable was mounted a bit closer to the edge on the new digitizer, so it wasn't clearing the bezel properly when folded over. So I had to bevel my bezel a bit, lol, and thus made room for it. So with great satisfaction of not breaking anything, I button the tablet back up and boot it...
WTF??? X Axis is inverted. I touch the left, it registers on the right. I draw a circle, it mirrors that circle. Damnit. I've heard of this being a problem with the TF201's, but this model too??? So now, I'm contacting the seller to see about an exchange or refund.
Parts Tablet the way to go?

Personally, I would do like I just did with my motherboard replacement on my laptop.
**Just buy a broken for parts/AS/IS 701 and just take what you need off it. Then you have a parts tablet. I saw a few go for less than 100$ a few weeks ago when I was looking for parts. I just ended up sending it to ASUS though. I'd rather have warranty work if it's still under warranty, than void my warranty prematurely.
That being said,by the end of the year, I'll probably invest in a parts tablet, just in case. I live a rough lifestyle, but I try to take the best care of my electronics. That being said, accidents happen.
Hello,
My lcd+digitizer screen have broken down and I need to replace them. Please, any help? On ebay, all I could find were screen digitizers.
Best regards!!
TF700 Screen Woes
Just some related info that may be useful to some of you:
My Asus TF700 tablet slipped from my grip whilst crossing the parking lot from my car to the local Starbucks. To be fair, I've dropped it a handful of times before with no serious damage (including the very first day I had it... the tablet wasn't securely locked into the docking keyboard and I wasn't yet familiar with how to make sure!) But this time it hit the asphalt hard, striking the pavement directly on the corner of the folded keyboard/tablet case. The screen still displays, but the gorilla glass has cracks all over the place!
I took it to a local computer repair shop and they quoted me a screen replacement price of $150 to $250, depending on which screen was required. Apparently they were finding multiple part numbers for the TF700 screen, with overlap between the TF701 and the TF201. They mentioned that some screens are held in place with screws and so can be removed from the back panel, while others require actually going in through the glass itself to separate the glass and screen from the back plate. After reading some of the info here on XDA-developers.com it sounds as though the TF701 has the "fused" screen and the TF700 has the screw-attached version. In any case, I deferred on repairing it for now. I may instead try to sell the docking keyboard with supplemental battery to recoup what I can.

I have the same story, and found some hope on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55290214&postcount=146
maybe when more people have the same problem (same problem with the tf201 is solved), the solution is on the way?
I too have the same story again! :crying:
