Hello,
Just bought the Galaxy S this afternoon (branded Orange fr...), and I'm trying since a few hours to update firmware, to remove this Orange branding from my phone, héhé
Problem is, after I rebooted in download mode (using terminal, 3 buttons method doesn't work), it is impossible to make the phone detected by Windows. Nothing happens. I tried many things, from the very latest drivers pack found on Korean Samsung website (version number finish with 1100), to the Heimdall driver... Removing battery a few minutes changes nothing, too
I use XP Pro SP3 in Parallels (I'm on a mac). Tried on VMWare, it was worst: phone was not detected with Kies.
What should I do to make my phone to be detected by windows in download mode ?
Thanks a lot..
Problem solved.
Only a true Windows (Vista xD) can detect this phone in download mode..

Hello guys,
To cut a long story short, my cousin wants me to hack is Samsung Galaxy GT i9000.
I rooted his phone in August and it was working perfectly (I play around with my Desire quite a lot) and since then he's tried to get rid of the root to update to official Froyo and something has happened to the USB.
I have tried to install every driver known to man kind to get this phone recognised by 3 laptops and a Desktop PC. 1 XP, 1 Vista and 2 Windows 7. I have been using USB Debug Mode, I've tried it without Debug mode, I've tried every USB slot, I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, kies, even deleted the phone from Device Manager and retried that... and nothing has happened. I can also get in to Download mode but unfortunately the computer still doesn't recognise the USB so therefore I cannot use Odin to flash the phone.
Any help? Cheers

Are you using x86 or x86_64 OS? Both of these drivers are available at: http://code.google.com/p/insanity/downloads/list -- try 'em?

Tried all that already mate, but I tried again just in case, and nope.. No avail whatsoever. This is majorly frustrating now.
I can access Android Recovery (eventhough originally Clockworkmod was on there, but my cousin has done some strange things to this phone) so I think if I can find a verified signed update.zip, I can install something through that no problem, via the Internal SD Card + "apply: update.zip"?
Oh and another thing, when I put the USB Cable in to the Computer and in to the SGS, the option for Charging, Mass Storage, Tethering etc doesn't come up..
Any light whatsoever?

Running latest version of Samsung KIES on Windows 7. Trying to upgrade to OS to Froyo
When I connect my phone via usb I get notification

device driver software not successfully installed
MTP usb device Failed.
It seems Windows 7 is not recognising Android driver(s) on my phone. Is this a known/new issue? I connected my phone to a Windows XP machine and it recognised the phone straight away and was visible in KIES. Is there a setting in Windows 7 that needs to be adjusted perhaps? Can anyone offer a suggestion as to how to recify this problem?

have you tryed to reinstall kies? and u can firs put phone on mass storage and wait to install drivers =)
I had an older version of KIES, did a search for Galaxy S updates, one of which was an updated version of KIES, now installed. I put the phone in mass storage mode, connected, then it told me to exit mass storage mode, had to disconnect in order to do so. Have searched MTP usb device on this site, read the archived entries and varied solutions, none of which work. Fairly sure its a Windows problem, because as I eluded to previously, it connects to Windows XP no problem.
Windows recognises my phone in Real Player mode, but not in KIES mode! KIES then says connection mode not supported, please connect in KIES mode, the Windows fails to recognise my phone.

There is a lot of thread about it, but well...
Start fresh:
- Uninstall Kies (phone not connected)
- Clean your registry with ccleaner (google it)
- restart your PC
- Dowload the last 2.x Kies realeased from samsung website
- Install Kies as administrator
- Go in your SGS setting device -> Application -> devlopment -> Uncheck USB debugging
- Restart your phone (even if not needed, do it)
- When the phone is up, plug the USB cable.
No luck with that either!

It should work no matter what:
Your windows 7 system have a problem somewhere (Drivers outdated?, antivirus?, firewall?, service not properly started? etc.. can be a lot of external things)
If you checked all that, it could be an hardware issue (i doubt that)
Are you using the stock USB cable right?
Anyway triple check everything, update, restart. It must work or you have or you are a very very very special case (i doubt that too).
Its an odd one alright
I'm reasonably confident, while not being an expert, that Windows is the problem, only wish I knew what exactly. I'm asking on Windows forums as well.
Hi..
I am facing an issue with Odin v4.43 .
My Laptop specs are :
USB3.0
HP-pavilion dv6 - 7023Tx (intel i7 3610QM)
OS : Windows 8 -64 bit
.
When i run this application and connect my samsung galaxy S plus device through USB cable, It don't detect Comport nor even displayed "Added" in Message box.
I even installed its 64 bit USB driver but still not. Why?
==================================================================
Whenever i run this application through my old laptop (P4, OS is Windows 7 32 bit and USB2.0 ).
It works and detect the comports and display added in message box.
How could i solve this issue in my new Laptop because i 'll have to leave my old laptop.
Did you already try this:

hi Gripping,
I installed the same driver on my new laptop but didn't follow the step as mentioned in your refered article.
I try with it then 'll share my experience .

I was having same problem when I tried to flash with odin (not 4.43). I managed to install the drivers using Heimdall suite 1.3.1. Heimdall comes with drivers folder and a application called zadig inside the drivers folder. It did not work right away but after trail and error it finally showed up as samsung usb driver. sometimes you have to restart your phone to be recognised by your computer. I did on windows 7 too and also I have i9000M. Hopefully will work for you too.
Thanks osterizerble, i have tried many times with different approaches but didn't work.
This is an issue with this machine or might be with 64 bit OS to install its accurate driver completely.
It works smoothly in my old machine without any effort.
It seems Odin V4.43 have the capability to operate through 32-bit systems too.
Thats' the restrictions , i think so.
I have Windows 8 x 64 bit too and I have already successfully flashed a stock Rom to my SGS using Odin.
I used an older version of Odin, I think it's version 1.3.
But my phone wasn't recognized immediately by the PC.
I think it took 2 or 3 times re-starting and re-booting my phone & PC before my phone was finally recognized by Odin.
I used the USB drivers from SamHaLeKe's thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11498043&postcount=1
Thansk Gripping and everyone for putting an effort of resolution.
Gripping I am pretty sure,Odin 4.43 will not work.
because i have been tried too mauch with every USB driver with Samsung Kies and after uninstalling it too.
I used SAMSUNG USB Drivers for Mobile Phones (x86 & x64) v1.5.16.0 driver too but it couldn't worked.
Yes Old , I think Odin 3 V1.8 detect Comports and display a message "Added" in Message box.
But i have tried it too, it start flashing and then stuck in no limit of time.
Moreover, i 'll make another try today night again. Hope this may help but i have already tired with it .
It's a good thing nothing happened to your phone when it got stuck in the middle of flashing.
It happened to me twice already, during flashing via Odin, it got stucked and won't continue running. (In my old Windows 7 and recently with Windows 8)
I have no choice but to close Odin and disconnect my phone.
After disconnection, my phone became "hard-bricked". No buttons responding whatsoever.
I was lucky (twice already) to revive my phone and brought it to download mode by doing the following:
1. remove the battery for a few minutes
2. connect the phone to PC via USB cable
3 press the vol down - home button - power buttons and at the same time insert the battery.
After reviving my phone, flashing via Odin became smooth already.
My computer is still giving a same message.
USB drive not recognized and when i come into the device manager, it display 3 wrong things in Other devices.
-> PCI Device
-> Unknown device.
->Unknown device.

Moreover, i have tried with solution again but same response.
It says "The best software for your device is already installed".
but i connect my phone, it add three more devices with error as i mentioned in above post.
It shows in device manager "SAMSUNG USB Composite Device".
and when i see the device status
it displays
This device cannot start. Code 10
A request for the USB BOS descriptor failed.
Hello all,
I have a s5830 with 2.3.6 (GINGERBREAD.XWKTM) that is not recognized by my windows 8 when I set the phone to dowload mode.
I did install kies and upgraded to latest version, so I assume that there's a correct driver installed.
I've tried several versions of odin, but none of them recognize the mobile when it's in download mode.
If I plug it in "normal" mode, kies recognize it, says that there's a new firmware, starts the process, reboot the mobile and change it to dowload mode but after that and after few minutes, it says that something went wrong becasue it cannot communicate with the mobile.
Makes it sense to be rexognized in one mode but not in other?
* Could it be related with the USB cable? I'm using a NOKIA one that worked perfectly with a s5830i .
TIA,
Arnau

There is nothing wrong with your USB cable, all the cables are the same.
you could try:
-reinstalling the drivers on your pc/laptop.
-factory resetting phone(i doubt that will work)
-try flashing a rom from a different region through like cwm and then try connecting it in download mode(i have 2.3.6 DDKQ8 and it works fine)
tbh i dont know if any of those will work, cause the rom installed wont make a difference to whether it works or not. You could have no rom installed and that will load. You have custom roms installed and it loads. So i think it could be a problem in the software for the download mode option which i dont think we can fix
sorry if i didnt help

Sadly Samsung drivers and odin doesn't work well on Windows 8 atleast for Galaxy Ace. Try flashing stock rom on a Windows XP or 7 pc. It should work. Hope I Helped
Hi,
sorry, I did not see that you answer to my question (gmail did filter xda e-mails).
Unfortuatly I dont have any windows 7 / XP available, so I'll try with a XP LiveCD, but I don't know when. So, whenever I try it I'll come back.
Many thanks for your answer,
Best Regards,
Arnau
So attempting to root I can not get my tmobile note 4 to be recognized by Odin when I enter downloading mode. I obviously tried installing samsung usb mobile driver, when I did a message window in Japanese with a red x appeared on my win 8.1 desktop. I tried different downloads of driver and even tried samsung site all give same error window. I then installed latest kies and it installed ok and recognized my note. I tried Odin and entered dl mode on note and still Odin doesn't recognize device. I uninstalled and reinstalled kies and driver but no luck. Is there a setting on my phone that's not allowing. I have usb Debug checked. When in dl mode it just says secure download enabled and then says entering udc. I am adb literate but new to odin. Any suggestions ...
Delete everything and start over. My laptop automatically downloads the drivers for me so not sure if your desktop will do the same.
If not, download drivers or just reinstall then and try it out and see if that works for you.
Well my fix was to go to a friend's house and use there pc. Tried everything and my win 8.1 did not like.
Removing or reinstalling Samsung drivers can be tricky. You did the right (easy) thing going to a different computer. Trying to use the same computer for an old and new Samsung device at the same time can easily cause your problem to happen. I found that you can't just switch between different versions of the drivers willy nilly. Perhaps the uninstaller routine doesn't work? Registry issue? Don't know.
If your win 8 pc can be rolled back to before you ever installed kies or a Samsung driver you might be able to get it to work using the correct (new) driver. That said, I'm still using the same driver I installed for my Note 2. Since it worked for the Note 4 and knowing what could happen, I left well enough alone!
