I had seen a friends Samsung Vibrant and he showed me how you can actually raise and lower the brightness settings of the phone by holding your finger on the status bar for a second and then swiping either left or right on it to adjust the brightness levels.
Just a cool feature if anybody is interested in investigating it.
Thanks,

I've seen this in action and it's pretty cool. Wonder if it's hiding in an .apk somewhere....
As far as I know, its in the framework Part and @kmobs tried it but needs help with the linear layout ...
Any application?
Is there any application with this feature? To change screen brightness INTO the status bar.
Any one can create such application?

You could
There are ROMs with brightness controls in the notifications.. Open Notification bar, tap the icon.. Has various options from Auto/30/100 all the way up to like 5 or so options. I tend to leave mine on Auto except when I'm using the phone as a car GPS in which case I need it brighter, and I let Tasker do that for me.

I have a rooted Nook Color and it is fantastic. However, I want to use the Crosswords application from the Android market. The only problem is that it appears to mess up the size calculation for the screen. It looks to me like it is not correctly calculating the size because it assumes the notification bar will be at the top of the screen. So it ends up overlaying the notification bar over the clues... or in horizontal mode, it overlays them over the bottom row of the software keyboard.
So, I want to selectively disable (or move to the top) the notification bar. Is there any way to do that? Or am I doomed?
Thanks. -ben
I too would love to know how to disable the bar or maybe even move it to the top. After mapping back and menu to the volume buttons the notification bar is really just a nuisance in its current location. However, through my limited research I've found nothing!
Edit: This may be just what you're looking for, I was looking for a more broad solution though....

Softkeys is great for back and menu
The softkeys app is great for the back and menu... I wish it included a button to make the current app be full-screen. But I don't know if it is even possible to do that.
I'm sure it is possible I just don't know if the demand is high enough to add said function, like I said earlier I would love a more permanent way to toggle the bar system wide.
Hi,
Can someone make a launcher with the notification bar transparent? I just noticed that the "burn-in" problem for blue background is real. I used Jscreen for 6-7 hours and 90% percent of "burn-in" problem was fixed, but It will be nice to have a transparent notification bar. This way the "burn-in" problem won't be an issue.
PS: To check if you have "burn-in" problem enter "LCD Test Mode" by dialing *#0*# then choose "red", "green" and "blue". Check the notification bar area.
Wrong section to ask a question seeing as we already have a question/answer forum
On another note, why not just get a launcher that supports toggling status bar ?
eg LauncherPro,Adwlauncher,Zeam....etc (Order does not reflect preference)

I think a question for modified launcher belongs to Development area. The poll is only secondary issue.
I like the stock launcher (it is the only one on JS3 who doesn't lag without lagfix) and tell me how do you select on other launchers the notification bar if you choose to hide it.
Is there an app to check that? I'm in cm7 and the code doesn't work beside samsung firmwares..
Swipe up to make it appear. Swipe down to open it completely.

Thank you, good to know . But it is useful only for launchers who have this option.

Jscreen. After you start Fix Stuck Pixel press Menu and choose Locate.
How does this technically fix the degradation ??
EDIT:
"Removes burn-in by equalising screen usage. "
This probably means degrading the entire screen with the hopes that the degradation will match on the burned out area
Degradation can be stopped with lower brightness, right? With apps like Screen Filter.
Hm... On the other hand, what has brightness to do with colors? On classic LCDs - nothing, hm...

I really don't think so because with Jscreenfix it's the same pattern on whole screen. If it's about degradation then pixels already damaged will be damaged more, so the difference between pixels degradation will be the same.
For this issue, I'm using this combination:
1. Use another launcher. I'm using ADW, and activate the 'Hide Notification Panel' option.
2. Activate the 'Full Screen Mode' in my browser. This will hide the notif panel while browsing. I'm using Opera Mobile.
3. Get rid the clock in the notif panel. I'm using the PaulDiddy's theme to do that. Then I use widget to display the clock.
4. Reduce the screen brightness to minimum as much as possible.
5. Any other ways that prevent too many appearence of bright static pixels will help to reduce the burn in issue getting worse.
Awww. If only I know an app call Jscreen, I will not waste my time sending my phone for service just 2 days ago (got back today).
The only thing I found so far is changing the background of notification bar as shown in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726411
I chose transparent bar.

TBH, I dont see how having a transparent bar will help vs a black bar, infact having a transparent bar will degrade it significantly faster vs black.

The problem is with pixels from inactive region of the notification bar, so it seems that degradation results from inactivity. A transparent bar will put them to work so they will not degrade anymore.
PS: the colour of the notification bar isn't 100% black, it's grey or 90% black, so maybe it's better to say Static Pixels instead of Inactive Pixels. In both cases activity seems to make them recover.
PPS: The third PNG looks more like the actual "burn-in" (the difference between colors isn't so big though).
Hi!
Just wondering if it's possible to adjust brightness in CM7 on the nook by sliding over the notification bar when it's in tablet mode. Tbh I've never gotten this mythical feature to work, ever, but it'd be nice to know if the fault lies with my fingers or if it's simply not possible
If you know of any other way to quickly and easily adjust brightness on a sliding scale, pref. in a widget, please let me know. It's one of the features I miss most from honeycomb.
I never heard of that feature, but I use the Brightness Level widget by CurveFish. It doesn't put a slider right on the screen, but tapping the widget brings up a slider with some presets. Elixir is a great general utility app that also has a brightness widget, but I prefer CurveFish's because it shows the level in % on the widget at all times.

Recent Plus! will also work. Long press on the 'n' and it brings up all your recent apps plus sliders for volume and brightness. It's a really useful app

I second recent plus. really great if you remap your volume buttons as well
get it at this thread:

Dunno, Notification Power Widget works okay for me for what I need.. Although Dim/25/100 would be nice to have.
Hehe, the touchscreen has made me so lazy I don't want to use the hardware buttons for anything. I even put back the 'Home' softkey on my status bar

I asked for this last year and someone supplied a patch. It doesn't appear to have ever been incorporated. Can anyone else interpret exactly what's happened with this request?
Does anyone know an app that gives the samsung like drop down menu luminosity slider with a auto option and 3G wifi switches ?
I know switchpro widget that goes in the notification drawer eventually but it lacks the luminosity slider.
Thanks for any help !

Thanks a lot. This app is nice.
But is there any app that only remains in the notification drawer with a slider ?
I'm sorry I cant find much, but this seems OK, but no slider

Thank you for your help, I've searched a lot too and can't find any notification embed slider
I found the widget app called : https://play.google.com/store/apps/...medium=appbrain_web&utm_campaign=appbrain_web
Which does have sliders for luminosity and volume but I can't find one single app that replicated the samsung slider with both automatic luminosity offset and absolute luminosity % slider !
If one dev manages to code this I bet he can start selling it at least 5 dollars ahah.
This one is NOT BAD AT ALL too because you can add APPS and other options like flashlight into the bar, I think I'm going to use that one for now : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.notificationToggle&feature=search_result

Power Toggles has a brihtness toggle that once tapped shows a brightness slider.
Hi, I have a Galaxy S4 with a Google Edition ROM and I'm missing the brightness slider and the toggles on the status bar I used to have on the TW...that's the only thing I miss actually, and one I really want to have, so...is there a module that enables those features? I tried Gravity Box but I only managed to control brightness directly on the status bar (I'd prefer an actual visual slider) and to bring the toggles on the screen by clicking on the top right corner of the status bar (quicksetting)... I would like to have the toggles directly on the drop down status bar...are there more options I couldn't find? Are there other modules that enable these features?
I'm looking for something like this: http://i.imgur.com/5g9Ft1W.jpg
Thank you in advance!

I believe that's called QuickSettings in GravityBox
Im not sure about the brightness slider because I haven't used that since 4.0.4, but I'm pretty sure you can add those in GB from under the Notification settings next to quick settings
Ok, thank you...I managed to bring the quicksetting in foreground when there are no active notifications with an option...it's better this way but I would just like a part of the screen with toggles that can coexist with the notifications...about the slider, can't find anything in notification settings...

Post here if you find a brightness slider mate. Cheers.
