CM7 - Notification bar sliding brightness control? - Nook Color General

Hi!
Just wondering if it's possible to adjust brightness in CM7 on the nook by sliding over the notification bar when it's in tablet mode. Tbh I've never gotten this mythical feature to work, ever, but it'd be nice to know if the fault lies with my fingers or if it's simply not possible
If you know of any other way to quickly and easily adjust brightness on a sliding scale, pref. in a widget, please let me know. It's one of the features I miss most from honeycomb.

I never heard of that feature, but I use the Brightness Level widget by CurveFish. It doesn't put a slider right on the screen, but tapping the widget brings up a slider with some presets. Elixir is a great general utility app that also has a brightness widget, but I prefer CurveFish's because it shows the level in % on the widget at all times.

Recent Plus! will also work. Long press on the 'n' and it brings up all your recent apps plus sliders for volume and brightness. It's a really useful app

I second recent plus. really great if you remap your volume buttons as well
get it at this thread:

Dunno, Notification Power Widget works okay for me for what I need.. Although Dim/25/100 would be nice to have.

Hehe, the touchscreen has made me so lazy I don't want to use the hardware buttons for anything. I even put back the 'Home' softkey on my status bar

I asked for this last year and someone supplied a patch. It doesn't appear to have ever been incorporated. Can anyone else interpret exactly what's happened with this request?

[IDEA] Status Bar Brightness changer

I had seen a friends Samsung Vibrant and he showed me how you can actually raise and lower the brightness settings of the phone by holding your finger on the status bar for a second and then swiping either left or right on it to adjust the brightness levels.
Just a cool feature if anybody is interested in investigating it.
Thanks,

I've seen this in action and it's pretty cool. Wonder if it's hiding in an .apk somewhere....
As far as I know, its in the framework Part and @kmobs tried it but needs help with the linear layout ...
Any application?
Is there any application with this feature? To change screen brightness INTO the status bar.
Any one can create such application?

You could
There are ROMs with brightness controls in the notifications.. Open Notification bar, tap the icon.. Has various options from Auto/30/100 all the way up to like 5 or so options. I tend to leave mine on Auto except when I'm using the phone as a car GPS in which case I need it brighter, and I let Tasker do that for me.

[Q] How can I toggle the Notification bar?

I have a rooted Nook Color and it is fantastic. However, I want to use the Crosswords application from the Android market. The only problem is that it appears to mess up the size calculation for the screen. It looks to me like it is not correctly calculating the size because it assumes the notification bar will be at the top of the screen. So it ends up overlaying the notification bar over the clues... or in horizontal mode, it overlays them over the bottom row of the software keyboard.
So, I want to selectively disable (or move to the top) the notification bar. Is there any way to do that? Or am I doomed?
Thanks. -ben
I too would love to know how to disable the bar or maybe even move it to the top. After mapping back and menu to the volume buttons the notification bar is really just a nuisance in its current location. However, through my limited research I've found nothing!
Edit: This may be just what you're looking for, I was looking for a more broad solution though....

Softkeys is great for back and menu
The softkeys app is great for the back and menu... I wish it included a button to make the current app be full-screen. But I don't know if it is even possible to do that.
I'm sure it is possible I just don't know if the demand is high enough to add said function, like I said earlier I would love a more permanent way to toggle the bar system wide.

TIL touching the wifi opens up "Quick Settings"

I used autoneuter and am running zeam launcher. I was pretty pissed the ipad had a switch for disabling screen rotation ( not anymore apparently) and wished there was some way to do it on my nook when laying down in bed reading.
I was messing with the screen and i found out touching the wifi/battery/clock area at the bottom right of the screen opens up Quick settings which has "wifi, mute, oreitnation, and brightness"!
I may be really slow but I was SUPER happy about this and wanted to share incase anyone else missed it.
I am not sure if this is part of autoneuter, zeam, or softkeys ( installed by autoneuter) but thought I'd share for those of you who don't know about it.
It's part of the stock B&N software.

As stated above its part of the B&N framework. Its actually a great setup except for its location. I love the notifications being a popup instead of a drag down.
BTW, there's a bunch of ways to get this same setting. In fact Extended Controls Widget has an orientation lock toggle that will handle that in one click if you want.
I can't find extended controls in the market... i've been using it on my Aria and wanted to use it for my nook too...?

[Q] Brightness adjust slider action lost ICS

Hi there!
After updating to LPY slider action (hold top line for a second and then slide to left or right) to control the brightness do not work any more. Is that only me or this feature are not implemented to 4.0?
Thanks!
Yeah I noticed it was gone too, which is odd considering it is not something I think Samsung would have dumped.
I seemed to have lost the slider functionality too after official ICS update from Samsung. Any way to get this back...it was useful.
Slider not working! Good stuff gone!
anyway to get it back? should we expect a patch or something?
Yes, it's especially odd considering one of the leaked ics builds originally had it.
I am hoping to get it back as well. Love shortcuts like this, it was very useful.
It was great feature., why would they take it out? :banghead:

Pie volume slider missing?

s10e I can't find the setting for volume slider in notification bar anywhere. Then i read Pie has a vertical volume slider. I can't find how to enable it. My older phones have horizontal slider bars in notification panel. I can't find volume slider in s10e
Samsung didn't implement the vertical slider for volume. I also don't know of a way to have it in the notification bar

There's one app i like trayvolume and discovered another one volume slider but don't want extra apps running in background. Not always convenient to use hardware buttons for volume. Scumsung kept the brightness slider. I expected volume slider next to it. What will scumsung think of next.

Honestly, they're making it more like other Android devices. The volume slider in the notification tray hasn't been in most Android devices since Lollipop at least.
Seriously though, I forgot what a dangerous place XDA is when a new device comes out. Nobody likes change and few can be happy with their device. If you think they're "Scum" then return it and move on.
I'm done here

I didn't know how sensitive some community members are. Like i insulted your entire family. My Andorid 7-7.1 phones all have volume slider. It can be enabled or disabled. This isn't change. This is intentional crippling of device. I like it. Hope scumsung will fix their flaws down the road. For now i'll use 3rd party apps for buttons or slider.

It's not a flaw and it's certainly not crippling the device. It's a personal little problem of yours that didn't make it onto the phone. It's not all about you so get over it and use an app to do it.

i hope i didn't seriously offend/insult/trigger anyone here with my complaints. I guess locked bootloaders and other flaws/issues will always remain my personal problems. okay. fine.
My issue that prompted the snarky reply was how you made it sound like it is a major dealbreaker, when an app can easily replace it. The fact you used "Scumsung" didn't help either.

No it's not a major or any deal breaker. That's how you interpreted it. Plenty of other deal breakers thought. Samsung is officially changing its name to SCUMSUNG. Didn't they inform shareholders yet?
