[Q] running Android off SD dependent on SD card speed? - Touch CDMA Android Development

Hi everyone,
I'm running Android off a microSD card on my Sprint HTC Touch/Vogue. I'm curious as to whether the speed of the microSD card makes much of a difference in my experience of the 'responsiveness' of the OS. I think my current microSD card is an old 2GB one that I purchased many years ago. Wondering whether upgrading to a newer card might make things snappier.
Has anyone experimented with this?
Thanks!

HELP Memory Card Dead

Hey Guys,
Was running CM 5.08 on my Dream.
My class 4 memory card died.
My class 6 memory card is still on its way (shipping).
(don't know when I'll be getting it).
In the meantime. I'll be running on the class 2 mem card that the phone ships with.
Any suggestions on what rom I should be running?
(probably won't want to be running APPS2SD or Swap)
So probably want to run a rom that's nice, trim and snappy.

Take your pick. You shouldn't be using swap anyways. Apps2sd won't hurt -- it'll just *might* run external applications slower than they would internally. Note that the SDCARD's CLASS is not an indication of its MAXIMUM speed -- it is an indication of its MINIMUM speed. A lot of C2 cards are actually FASTER than a lot of C6 cards.
thanks for your response.
speak of the devil.
my new transcend memory card just came in the mail.
Still would be a good thing to know for future's sake.
Is it true, that I shouldn't be running swap? What does that mean? Feel like most people run their Dream / G1s with swap.

Best SD Card for NC?

So whats the best SD card for the NC? I keep reading some work better than others for different things...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=898040
I have two of these:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...cm_re=partriot_microsd-_-20-220-546-_-Product
They are screaming fast!
I am currently running CM7 from my SD card. I have Kingston 8 gig class 4. I am looking to upgrade since my rom is running from the sd card. I was wondering if anybody has run any benchmarks using different SD cards and if anybody please post them. Thanks!
Do you have issues with your rom running slow?
i got this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211535
sure it may take longer to fill up but my videos play great on the 32GB class 4 micro sd card w/ phiremod v6

flashing rom VS running off sd

pros and cons of flashing a rom onto device or run from sd card?
am I asking this question wrong?
I guess this question has been asked several times. It's very easy to flash back to stock and the NC seems to be unbrickable, then I think you can try both to know which one you like best and get your asnwer by yourself.
Regards!
I'm very much a newbie (haven't even USED the NC yet), but:
Pro: SD card approach is extremely clean; you can leave the stock internal "eMMC" ROM alone, UNROOTED, and boot off it again at will, just by removing the SD card.
Pro: You can boot off different Android distributions as easily as swapping SD cards.
Con: Many people find SD card booted operations significantly slower. The sweet spot seems to be using a Class 6 card? (Class 10s are faster but not as many good reports from what I've read.)
I don't think you will realistically see any difference between class 6+ cards. I doubt the Nook itself can perform at true class 6 speeds, so the card isn't the weakest link...

[Q] Which micro SD card to buy for Samsung Captivate?

I have a two year old AT&T Samsung Capivate that is completely stock and running Android 2.2. I want to try to flash CM10 on it. This is going to be my first time ever trying to root/flash my phone. It doesn't have a micro SD card in it and I believe I will require one if I go down the rooting/flashing route.
Question: Which is a good micro SD card to buy? Does the class 2, 4, 6 etc matter?E
You don't need an external sd to flash/root your phone. You just need enough room on your internal sd to dl the ROM you want.
If you want an external, i would recommend class 10. Storage capacity is up to you, but the Captivate is rated at 16GB, although I've heard several reports of people using 32GB cars with no issue.

[Q] Memory Card compatible for HD7?

hi guys, my hd7 currently only have 8gb inside. planning to upgrade to 16 or 32gb. but i notice that our hd7 only compatible card. i've done my research on hd7 forum, this is what i came up with. need some one to verify it.
my question is:
1. basically what class do i need to look for? it is either class 4 or 2?
2. notice that stock memory card named "Sandisk MicroSDHC". Does it need to be HC? at my local higher capacity card seem to be running out. only 4gb are available.
3. and can i use another brand. i know some already used other brand. but do kingston work?
if u have upgraded ur hd7 memory. do also let me know the brand, capacity and class speed.
i think it might be good for our forum to compile all compatible microsd into a thread.

Almost all newly manufactured SDHC cards will now work with the HD7.
I would recommend a higher quality brand like , SanDisk, PNY or Kingston... These are less likely to have poor Read/Write speeds and you shouldn't have any problems with it being a faulty SD card in the device.
Use a class 4, 6 or 10 SD card. The Read/Write speeds on the higher class cards are generally faster. Which equals faster loading, transition and less lag on the device.
The HC stands for "High Capacity" and yes I would stay with the SDHC card and they make 8, 16 and 32gb cards that will work with the HD7.
If your devices bootloader version is 5.12 then it will support the 64gb class 10 micro SDXC cards.
I'm using a 32gb class 4 micro SDHC card in my HD7 with a bootloader version of 3.xxx and it has worked perfectly in 2 different HD7's now.
thanks for the confirmation! sandisk usually run out pretty fast. but there alot of kingston at my local store. i know a place sell class 6 16gb and class 10 32gb microsdhc. so i'll give em a try. as for my bootloader version, yes it at 5.12. but planning to downgrade it using the y-cable method after the memory upgrade. so l'll stick with microsdhc.
how long does the initial start up take? after the restore process completed.. cus i had install mine, sandisk 16gb class 4, and currently its still on the htc logo waiting to start up. on the bootloader, the mmc info has been updated. or the card is bad?
Edit:
Seem the card is not compatible to my hd7. if i remove the card, it will switch on after restore process complete.

After you insert the new SD card, make sure you perform a hard reset to integrate the SD card into the system first.
ok i got my hd7 up n running for weeks now. I used 16gb class 4 sandisk.
a buddy of mine also using hd7 8gb. So he ask me to do the same thing to his hd7. Weirdly his phone wont boot up with the same memory card i bought. Does mango update make a difference?
