Hey looking at getting a new micro SD card for my phone...
Has anyone had experience with these..
http://cgi.ebay.com/New-32GB-TF-Memory-Card-32G-Micro-SD-SDHC-MicroSDHC-TF-/200512447087?pt=Digital_Camera_Memory_Cards&hash=item2eaf79226f#ht_1812wt_1137
They're really cheap... Are there any issues or incompatibilities?
Also does the Class matter much? Like is it worth looking for a class 6 or is the difference on a Smart Phone not worth the extra money.
The class is up to you, its not a huge deal to me, but some people a class 6 is essential.
However, be careful with ebay memory cards of any kind, be sure to do a test of the size as SOON as you get it. people Often will take a 2gb card and have it fake a 32gb memory card. So make sure you test it to make sure. I cant remember the testing program but im sure someone else will list it here.

The class is just write speed isn't it? So what do you notice that in? Recording 720p or something ?? :/ It doesn't seem like it would be that essential for a smart phone
32G for $18 = Fake. Buy it if you want, but it'll be fake.

yeah, basically the class is the read/write speed, somepeople have seen some uninspiring results when comparing a class6 to a class2. It more has to do with data transferring.

Hi
Are the unbranded cards not really class 6? They seem to be certainly cheaper than a SanDisk/Transcend branded card.
Anyone have any experience with them? I guess I don't mind paying more if I know it's a better product, otherwise......
Thanks
Buy a branded class 6 on new egg. Only 16-20$

Don't bother, buy a brand name instead.
1) You're likely to get ripped off in terms of speed
2) I've bought unbranded cards that simply wouldn't stay mounted in the phone and constantly corrupted themselves (had to be repartitioned before storing data).
The card I use is a Transcend 8GB Class 6, bought on amazon for £13. Other people say that A-Data make good cards. I've heard mixed reports about sandisk.

Okay thanks guys, I'll get a branded one.

Every user review I've seen on the Transend 8GB class 6 says it is slow, even for a class 4, so maybe avoid that one.

Well that doesn't sound to shabby at all, but I've seen plenty of contrary opinion.
TBH though it's hard getting any good data, from the benchmarks I have unearthed, speeds seem to be all over the place, one brands 4GB class 4 often easily outperforming their 8GB class 6. Then there is the testers equipment, stupidity etc...
This place seems to have the best prices in the UK: http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/def...rwords=microsd&go=SEARCH&comp=&page=1&sort=3d
Despite my research and price hunting I still bought an "Team" 8GB C6 for £15 today, because, well, I was there, it was there... And I can always just stick it in one of my 6p card readers, use it as a (slow) USB drive and buy another.

I agree, the benchmarks are crazy. For some reason vista seems to write to my card slower than Ubuntu, like half the speed! (and I mean actual time, not the speed it displays).
Oh well, It's not like MicroSD cards are a huge investment nowadays...

Don't mock the product unless you've used it.
Hi,
i want to replace the Stock 2GB Micro SD card against a new and better one. Which cards can you reccomend me?
Thanks!
Any class 6 that you can find.
May i recc you use amazon or ebay?
Should find some holiday sales or better prices on new years.
will the g1 support 32gb? i am also in the market for a new sdcard and was thinking of a 16gb or 32gb...currently using an 8gb class 6

Nope, 16GB is limit...The G1' hardware limits it to 16 only, but the card will really have 14Gbs on it not 16...Just like 8gb card has like 7Gbs on it.
It will do 16GB, in theory 32GB as well, but I have yet to see a MicroSD 32GB Class 6 SDHC card, and I just did a google search and didn't see anything either.
For the OP, also check out your local Radio Shack. I was in need of an SD card in a pinch, right here right now, because mine went bad and was causing some bad flashes, and thus needed to fix it ASAP so I could get my phone working right again.
Anyway, they had Sandisk Mobile Ultra cards on sale, and I was able to get the elusive class8 4GB card for $12. Sandisk didn't make them for very long, the performance difference between class6 and class8 is very, very small, and not worth the premium if it isn't on sale.
If they don't have any great buys like I was lucky enough to get (I would have ordered one off the internet when I got home if I hadn't been so lucky) get a class 6 8gb card off the itnernet. Great deal on a lot of memory. If you really are going to use more than 8gb, then go ahead and get a 16gb, but in all honesty the only way you would go over 8gb is if you refuse to add and REMOVE music/videos/pics from you SD card.

Ah your right...Just like Xp cant read cards bigger than 8GB natively while vista/7 can read all sizes. But then again im on hero(1.5) guess that doesnt support 32GB cards.
But i would prefer he saves that money if he plans on getting a new andro
i think i will go with 16gb...seems to be more than enough...not willing to order one off the net only to find it doesnt work...anyone see any good deals on a 16gb card? this was the best i could find...

my transcend 8gb C6 actually has 7.65gb usable space.

I think i will go with the SanDisk 8 or 16Gb class 6 one.
Can anyone give me some advice on what's the best SD card to buy? Size, speed, manufacturer if possible.
Since I've finally got some money, I can upgrade from the stock card.
Does the size and speed of the card actually make much improvement in the phones' processing, especially using a2sd?
Thanks for your input

i would recommend using a SanDisk branded card.. (im a brand name junkie)
as far as size and speed, i would go with at least a 8GB... depending on what ur goin to be putting on the card you might even want to go with a 16GB... as for speed, i would definitely recommend a class 6 card..
now the size and speed isn't gonna make much for improvement except in the A2SD loading, and photo loading..
Anyone else? The more opinions the better. Gives me something to think about while I'm sitting here at work waiting for my scan of an iPad to finish regenerating

don't think your gonna get too many different opinions.. SanDisk branded cards are top quality, and class 6 cards are as fast as they go atm. the only thing left is how much space you want..

unfortunately, I'm too cheap to pay for a sandisk. How are the transcend ones? Obviously not as good as the sandisk brand-wise, but is there a huge difference in performance?
Hi guys, I am about to purchase my galaxy note next week and I was wondering if anyone could shed some light into the matter..
Which class of micro sd card should I buy? (minimum) I was hoping to get a 64gb but if that would underperform, there would not be much of a sense to it.
The maximum reading/writing I will be doing in the note is probably playing 1080p playback + mirroring it to the tv. maybe some hi definition video recording as well straight to the memory card.. but most often than not, I would play a 720p mkv movie.
Would a class 4 suffice? Any suggestions on which brands I should look at / stay away from?
Class 4 of any decent brand should suffice.
Class 2 cards from Sandisk will also suffice (their read/write speeds are enough for 1080p encoding and decoding). May be a hassle if you regularly transfer a lot of data to and from the card since thats the time when the slower R/W speeds will come into play.
Why get anything less than class 10? If you can afford a Note, you should be able to spare another $20 for a fast sdcard...
class 10 cards can cost upwards of $80 for an 8gig card.

i picked up my class 10 a-ram 32gb microsd for $49.95AU + shipping.
it really depends on what you plan to use your note for. if youre filming 1080p video at the default 17mbps, thats about 2mb/s that you'd want minimum for just filming. so any speed should be fine as long as its above class 2. i just prefer faster cards since theyre getting cheaper.

I've read class 10 doesn't always mean fastest read speed or something to that effect. Not always beneficial to get a class 10 since it writes faster but doesn't always means it reads faster. Someone else can probably elaborate for me.

A-RAM is the brand. i bench'd it. write speeds are 11mb/s, read speeds are 14mb/s.
it was one of the random daily specials they had at www.shoppingsquare.com.au a week or so ago.
right now, the next best deal they have is http://www.shoppingsquare.com.au/p_276323_Kingston_32GB_Class_10_Micro_SDHC_Memory_Card

normally read speeds of class 10 are still higher than write speeds. but the read speeds dont really vary much between classes. my kingston class 10 reads at 12mb/s, my a-ram class 10 reads at 14mb/s, my sandisk class 2 reads at 10mb/s. so if all you need is read speed, then any card will do.
even class 2 or 4 on Sandisk it will work fine. i believe just buy a good make one ( not a fake from China ) , but i bought mine Lexar class 10 and work great , i couldnt be happier.

It doesn't necessarily write faster either!
All the class indicates is the minimum sustained write speed under optimal (i.e. unfragmented) conditions. It says nothing about the read speed, which is what is generally important in mobile devices since they are usually used for content consumption rather than creation.
As NZtechfreak has already mentioned, Sandisk Class 2 cards almost always well exceed the class minimums - I've been using 16gb Sandisk Class 2 cards in my phones for a long time now, and I've yet to get one that had a write speed less than the Class 6 minimum of 6MB/s, and the read speed has always been 20MB/s or above.

Dave
A good read why Class 4 cards are the best ones to use for your smartphone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14456360&postcount=42
I started out with a Kingston Class 2 32GB I had laying around, and then switched to a Class 10 32GB made by PNY that I got from Microcenter for $59.95.
There was a very noticeable difference in photo taking lag and the media scanner, plus app access on the card. Now there is almost no photo lag, from snap to saving. Haven't messed with the video much yet...
I've Samsung class 10 32 gb. It's really good, but my device started rebooting because of it. "System Process has stopped working."
What I found out is that after removing my micro sd my device is a hell FASTER than before!!!
Maybe a faulty micro sd, no since it works fine in my pc and other devices.
I want to check does any of you have the same problem???

Planning on picking up a 32GB micro SDHC card, to replace my current 8GB card, within the next two days.
Shooting for at least a class 4, which I will likely end up with, really don't feel like paying extra for a class 6 or 10 at the moment, especially for what I use it for (Music, Apps, Docs, Pics).
Just want to see if anyone else is rocking one yet, and if so which brand?
Thanks

I have a Kingston 16 GB class 4 in my Vivid. It works great for me, and was noticeably quicker loading the gallery and saving pictures on my old HTC Evo then the standard 8 GB class 2. I recall seeing some people having problems with class 6 & 10 in some phones, but don't remember the details.
32GB class 4 San disk work fine, currently i have no idea to fill it up with
Why stop at 32gb? SanDisk makes a 64GB micro SD card that is compatible... I'm using it right now, unfortunately I can't post the pic from the phone though... Google it also, if you order one, Google a discount code for 10% off and that'll cover most of shipping.

Great to hear, can we just dismount and use adapters to plug into a pc to transfer wiles at will? Does the formatting affect this ability?
I would do this quite a bit with my sdhc card.
now a good question, how much does this 64GB will cost you?

i dont think 5x the cost for double the capacity is worth it
Well, my 32Gb sd card came in today, so I should go pick it up later today.
Are we given the option to format the card once placed into our phone?
...I have been looking around but haven't seen anything about it so fare...on HTC's site, the manual, etc...
Thanks
woa, what about class 10 not working? I have a class 10 8gb card that im planning on using (got it for like 10 bucks online 2 years ago). I really hope it works fine...phone comes tomorrow so lets see.
What I find amusing is that the Vivid is listed as having 16GB of memory. After OS install and bloatware that drops it to 8.83? wtf is that. Unless boot/recovery/radio all share which is highly doubtful and totally insecure
Class 10 doesn't necessarily mean faster speeds. It does mean faster speeds if you are transferring 8 gigs of music for example. But when it is in the phone, the random read/write speeds are actually worse than class 4. There is a thread on here somewhere about it.
...so how do we go about formatting them for our phone, or is it automatic?

It is automatic. The SD card probably comes preformatted with FAT32, which Android accepts. It'll do the folder architecture automatically.
