Ladies vs Men

Thought about this and wanted to ask. If folks feel this is not appropriate then feel free to say so in a kindly manner and we can have the thread removed. Please do not respond to just bash or make offensive comments.
I'm in the technical field and there have been more women joining in. Curios as to how many ladies out there that are flashing their phones?
This is not public and shouldnt show anyone who they are. I will only post after 5 days the results.

i believe the majority of members on this board are men... however, alot more women are starting to surface and are eager to flash and help out... maybe the female members can help smack down the god complex some of our male members seem to have

I've said it before, and I'll say it again -- I've flashed my Wizard with more ROMS than Quaker's got oats. For me, it's a POWER issue that I can do anything a MAN can do -- and just as well, if not better.
I used to just build desktop systems for myself, my family and friends, but then I got my Wizard and found this forum and I've become an INCURABLE addict. I just HAVE to have the newest ROM that hits the forums.
I don't think you'll find any of my posts asking about how to do something because I don't want to look like a "dumb female". Rather, I spend a LOT of time reading and learning so I know how to fix something ahead of time.
Now, I'm do a lot of reading on programming languages and coding. Sometimes, I think I'm in over my head with it, though. But, the only way to learn is to read and by "hands on" experience. So, I'll wait til the Kaiser comes out to buy it and start applying some of the stuff I'm learning to the Wizard when it won't matter if I muck it up. . .

This is fantastic. Glad you posted Newbie2. Wish other ladies here would follow suit. Like to see the ladies win this cause the men are slacking by just veiwing and not posting.

Totally agree with you, I am also a female and now reading hard on this forum to make my first cook rom for my lovely hermes

. . . probably 'cause we're too busy tweaking our phones (and picking up after the MEN) to care how we look. LMAO!!!

Going have to disagree here. I've been in meetings and worked closely along side with several women that were very attractive. I work at the photonic layer and some of these women are truly geeks. (Never judge a book by its cover)

Fair play!

Girls geeks have their non-physical sexiness. I like girls with BIG phones (e.g. HTC series, SonyE P900 series, etc) makes looks more sophisticated rather than just face and dress. And girls talking Linux and programmings are sexy in a way.. probably it makes them looks smarter I like smart girls.

I remember the "power struggle" of the Women's Movement back in the late 60's and early 70's, since I was just graduating High School at that time. So, some of that propaganda has stayed with me over the years. But I'm afraid the old adage of "A woman has to work twice as hard to achieve twice as much to be considered half as good as a man" is still the norm in the business world, unfortunately. And you still hear the assinine gossip about any woman that actually WORKS her way to the top SLEPT her way to the top. While women have made great strides in the business community in the past 30 years, it's still considered a "man's world" out there.
But to put your anxiety about my statement to rest -- I do it to prove to MYSELF that I can do it -- because I WANT to do it. And I actually was echoing the "brand" put on me by some of my co-workers about being a "female geek". A geek is a geek is a geek -- doesn't matter whether they're maile or female. It's like I've contracted some type of communicable disease. But when THEY have problems, guess who they come to?? LOL!!
I'm an independent spirit and actually my worst fear is ever having to depend on ANYONE for anything. So, I've learned to learn to do for myself. And -- at the end of the day -- I can honestly say I've done all I can do and feel good about what I accomplished. . .

That is somewhat not true, sex does play a part in certain (not all) things/situations. Take Lara Croft, of Tomb Raider, for example, I don't think the game itself will be a hit if you have a muscle guys doing all those little moves "Action girls" are still currently not a norm yet, and hence made them unique, so does girl-geeks. Guy-geeks are usually marked as 'geek', while girl-geeks may be marked as 'intelligent'. Same goes with a guy on certain subject, girl-cooks are 'nice', while guy-cooks are sexy. Guy-presidents are.. *yawn*.. girl-presidents are WOW.
And I remember this from a movie..

My guess this forum consist of 95% guys...could I be wrong? Are we living in a world where only guys buy top of the line phone and want to know how to tweak and upgrade their kaiser?

Ironic is it...I'm as geeky as a girl can get, and I have the hardest time finding a guy! The vast majority of you just aren't interested in a girl that is smart, makes a good living, would rather spend the day playing with an XBox than going shopping... but isn't drop-dead gorgeous with a sexy, hot body. I seem to generally attract the loser types that are 40 and still living with their parents.

I work as a freelance programmer (have a popular ecommerce software package that I sell and support), set up my own home network, do a lot of beta testing and reviewing for other people, and so on. Like a fair number of geeks though, I didn't have great social skills growing up, didn't really fit in with girls my age. So always feel like I'm playing catch-up now.

Ive recently started to develop a case of yellow fever. That seems to be your best bet if you are looking for nerdy and cute girl. However its a matter of taste, not everyone is into that.
As with all stereotypes, its not true 100% of the time, but its it has been for me so far.

A lot of us geeks got our first real social skills from forums like these.... that's not entirely a good thing, either. lol

You know, that's very true in my case. I've been networking online since the earliest days of the web and even before that on BBS's (anyone remember those?!) I was much more introverted and shy then, these days I am far more confident and articulate in large part due to all the years of throwing myself into the middle of discussions online. And yeah, it's a catch-22 for sure. I do think some guys are intimidated by me, not so much even that I am brainy, but because I do have opinions of my own and will argue for them. Not to the point of being argumentative by any means, and in a real fight I will almost always back down first...but I know I've thrown some guys off because they will make some statement about something political or such, and I'll just come right out with "Oh, I don't agree with that at all." For all that men will talk about wanting someone who is witty and intelligent, etc. I often find that they aren't sure how to handle it when they get it.

A european Blackstone XDA Event?

Hi to All,
I am just wondering if anybody would be interested in joining a real event where we could meet somewhere in europe (Geneva? quite central and well served by cheap low-fare flights).
We could meet for one weekend, for example, and the meeting could be focused to BXD: Blackstone Xda Developers!
the entrance ticket is quite obvious: the touch HD with a non-official ROM!
...ad maybe somebody could develop some nice apps for BT identification?
I post this thread here because i think it should be a targeted event, not a general public happening. I wonder if we could also get some support from HTC or some local media, for example to rent a meeting place. Maybe we could even make a few contests and share some acknowledgements, but these are just few ideas.

I'm talking bout the no share issue.
I'm talking bout the android issue.
I'm talking bout the issue that many rom coockers are planning to leave.
One of my best friends and a long time member of XDA is planning to leave.
He is also a moderator... so.....
But on topic.
I would wanna go tho.

i like the idea, and had you suggested it a few years back then it would probably have been a big hit, but id like to echo the words above, some moderators have serious issues on here, the site is beginning to lose its self and its consistancy the admins dont appear to take any notice and let their mods run riot, even members seem to demand everything and give nothing,
Ive stopped my donations for my own reasons, i doubt i will continue unless things improve, at the mo id would rather support the individual programer than the whole community which is shame.
Still its a nice idea, but poor timing im afraid.

Off Topic: XDA is a container, as well as a real-life event. We are all civilized persons, and i am sure we could format different opinions into a real and pacific confrontations.
On topic: unfortunately, during the car show you cannot find lodging in the radius of 50 km....and becomes quite expensive.
I don't want to make any advertisement, but check for prices on www.easyjet.com from your place to Geneva and you'll realize it is one of the cheapest places to reach in Europe! Maybe London or Amsterdam are alternatives...

It is becoming quite a religious thing. To avoid what religions have been doing in the past, maybe an ecumenic event could help?

Baa forget London its cheaper for most folk to get to the south of france and stay a few nights then it is to fly an hour in London, besides Scotlands better!

i am new here since i ve own a blackstone.. but without xda? htc would be nothing for me..
i am very interested in a meeting.. also i am more a computer geek (admin of very independent pctreiber.net) i am really interested in learning and in xda stuff, i really like it here and appreciate a lot. i have no negative opinion about xda, for sure.

There may be issues right now, with many people disillusioned, but I like pzucchel's style in bringing forward something so positive to the table. That's only to be commended and can only help to recover the spirit that is seen to be lost! Good on ya!

First of all, i would like to clarify that this is just a proposal for discussion and reflection. I personally hate "organizers" jumping on top of spontaneous events to get some personal benefits in terms of recognition and reputation, and i can tell you for sure i don't have any of these targets. But there is a large number of nice people here, and people that i respect a lot even if they have opinions different from mines....that i would like to meet in person.
(including Dutty if you really want to spell it out! He is a great cook, nobody should forget that he always shared a big number of his achievements by making cabs that were used by many other roms, freely...it must be just a big misunderstanding...right Dutty?)

Seeing the number of possible attendees after 12 hours of posting already of the order of 50, i would personally argue to restrict it to the blackstone device only, for three reasons:
1. Even if there is a lot to share technically, it could well be that we have never had contacts with people from other devices. and the interest in meeting will become restricted to social groups "per device".
2. It should be, in my opinion, mainly a social event. Technical matters can be easily discussed on the forum, in fact. And to be a useful social event we would need to be less than 100 or so, to be able to meet each other and say at least 2 words in 48 hours to people that we don't know a lot, but that we could know during our forum activity!
3. Parallel sessions is, in my opinion, a mistake. if we have a single session we could easily broadcast it on internet, and allow our asian and australian and american friends (those without CDMA support! ) to be part of the event. We are ONE community, don't forget! i would love to meet our viet friends also! but we could have webcam attendants, no?
In my opinion, the best number of attendes should be below 120. Of course it should be an OPEN event (Yes we share! ) , but we should try to target a manageable number, in terms of logistics and social aspects. Any other comments or opinions?
I alread imagine meeting a 15 year old guy with the badge "Schooleydoo"...
By the way: did anybody notice that apparently techno geeks are all males? or this is a demonstration of biological superiority or somebody is cheating...

Job interview at best buy mobile tomorrow HELPPPPP

Ok long story short I'm a 2nd year college student and I've worked at a gas station/convenience store for about 2 years and some change. I'm a huge tech person and love mobile phones (which xda member doesn't). I recently applied for a position at a best buy mobile opening up next month and got an interview tomorrow morning and I'm so nervous. Any pointers???? Tips??. I believe I can sell a phone to someone easily. For example. "the evo 4g is a wonderful phone and may be one of the best phone's on the sprint network. It has lightning fast data speeds thanks to sprint's 4g network and a beautiful 4.3 inch screen. All that packaged with a great mobile OS called android. The camera on it is fantastic it includes 720p recording and there is even an hdmi port on the device to playback movies on your big screen at home. The 1ghz snapdragon makes the phone extremely fast and it is great for multitasking." and etc I'd include more specs and ask what features they are looking for on a phone and tell them what the phone can do to meet their requirements. Any tips please help I'm so nervous

All they want to know is if they can make a phone call, text, update their FB status and take a picture of their son drowning.
Also if you are a regular consumer, and reading this, yes, you are stupid.
As the interview part. Get some rest, come in for the interview about 15 minutes earlier, smile, dress nicely, smile, don't sweat, smile, be respectful of your interviewer, smile, have any and all paper work ready, and don't forget to smile. Also, brush your teeth and smile. Did I say smile? Don't make it a fake smile, but a relaxed smile. And not a smirk because then they will think you think you're too good for this job.

Thnx for the response. I'm extremely nervous still. Should go to sleep soon but want some tips first. I don't have a resume hopefully that won't affect the interview but I have some black dress pants a nice grey sweater and some black loafers for the interview.

"How old are you?"(if you look young)
"What's your number?" <<<<<This is a trick question. If they don't ask you, but tell you they'll call you back, guess what, they ain't callin you back. lol

"Would you do sexual favors to get this job?"
Ok Kidding with the last two, but you get the general point. The interview will last about 10 or 15 minutes so you don't have to worry.
Also, I might want to mention you are talking to someone who never had a job interview. lol. But don't worry, I went to business school so they made us learn as if we had an interview the next day.

Lol if only it was possible. Take a few puffs and when the interviewer asks me why my eyes look shut I say its because I'm asian I kid I kid I kid.

When I'm cross-interviewing the sales guys... well, here's what I look for:
1. Intelligence - the ability to obtain and retain knowledge. Simple stuff like knowing some info about the company and the tech, etc. Bonus points for understanding the industry and its players, especially if they understand the company's positioning compared to its competitors.
2. Coherence & communication - the ability of the salesperson to present the idea and information that the customer will be able to understand
3. Control of vocal tone - for salespeople who deal directly with customers, having a good tone of voice can "hypnotize" the customers.
4. Physical presentation - I'm not looking for Miss Universe, but dress appropriately. A good way of dressing will be to dress according to the dress-code of the company or slightly overdress. Only slightly.
5. Passion - I must be able to see that you have a passion in the industry, in yourself and in the things that you do. If I see that you lack the energy/drive, you'll be hard-pressed to get hired in a highly rewarding position.
Do note that we are hiring sales people who earn at least 50% more than their peers, so the bar is set pretty high up.
Don't worry about tech-stuff, because that'll come in a briefing package. Don't worry about sales tricks either, because seniors will teach you if you ask nicely.

whew interview went good. Even had to correct the guy because he asked me if I heard about the swift for sprint and I said no and he said really? and I said wait what manufacturer and he said HTC and I asked do you mean the shift with the qwerty keyboard and he said "yea that's it you might know more then me" he said he'll call today to let me know if I got the job.

Just remember they are people.
They are looking for someone that not only isn't stupid, but someone they can get along with.
They know they are going to have to train you - any knowledge you have before hand can and will help - but isn't the deciding factor in you getting the job.
Although the job doesn't require a resume - if you had one you'd probably be a step ahead of the other 9 billion stoners trying to get a job there.
Do not dress like a slob - but don't OVER dress either - the slacks/sweater is going to be fine. Can't tell you how many times I've seen people show up in full clown suits for a call center job - and here I am in the Summer wearing a t-shirt and shorts with a ball cap on.
Practice interviewing with someone your comfortable with - even if the questions are BS - it helps.
And I have interviewed at least 1000 people - and I can tell you - if your relaxed, dressed appropriately, don't bull**** me, and at least convey to me in an intelligent manner that you know what your talking about - you would be hired.
And.. if you don't get the job - don't sweat it. Just means some uber nerd ended up working for them instead of you. Might be a blessing in disguise

Next step if I get it is drug test. I hope I pass, took like 4 hits on a one hitter on new years eve (I know dumb) and I smoke bout 3 or 4 hits a month. So scared I guess I'll buy a home test first

Sure for you the EVO is an awesome phone but alot of people are turned off by the size. Etc.

So, coming back to me, myself and I: I always loved computers, although I never quite understood them very much. Some claim that I know a lot about computers.....but this opinion is only shared by those who know absolutely nothing about them, and see them as entities which could eat them alive if they pressed the "wrong button". I know better: I have a limited knowledge regarding computers, but I do possess an endless curiosity, and I always seem to find somebody whom is kind enough as to give me her/his time to teach me, or help me out of deep shi-t when I, very rarely!, take a path that I know nothing about and "boldly go seeking where no one has sought before"......
As you already know by now, I love Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Thrillers and Terror; this in all medias: movies, series, graphic novels, comics, mangas, animations, books.....
I love to row, ski, practice volleyball and rugby, ride a bike and a horse, run, go rollerskating and ice skating, swimming and climbing.
I also write a lot, but nothing's been published so far. I happen to read way more than I write though.
I spent seven years in a wheelchair/using crutches, and now I am riding bikes again....it feels like the first time I rode one, when I was a child.
Let us simply say I come a long way to where, and when, I stand today.
I may not be of a lot of help to you, because my knowledge is really limited. Now. But, with your kind help, it will come a day when I will be able to give my helping hand to others in these matters as well as some others.

As for how I respond to that question: I just stare at them in silence for a bit, they usually figure it out. If they really don't get there I start tapping the words one by one.
