Besides ThinkFree, are there any other apps for the I9000 that allow you to create .txt or.doc files?
Mini Diary and Memo seem to be proprietary format apps and I can't see where the files are stored either. Can you transfer/read these files onto your PC?
TIA
Theres a heap of txt editors and notepad apps on market. I never had need to read txt files since i use springpad. I just import txt files via web page. Can't wait for release of desktop app

Thanks icky.
I'm not familiar with Springpad, but is there an outliner app for the I9000, that would be very cool.
I'm using Ecco on my desktop.

I'm getting rid of my phone soon, and would like to know where my hundreds of texts are.
This would be too logical for Windows software, but might it be all the little files in Windows > Messaging ?
Not sure if those are the messages, but they're no use to any other (non-Windows Mobile) phone....
Why don't you use DotFred's PPCPimBackup tool (here) to backup the SMS'es - then you can extract them (they're in a .CSV format) from the phone and save them on your PC.
Just a thought......
Mark.
Thanks for quick reply. I'll try that. Those little .MPBs do look very useless...
They are located into "cemail.vol".....
if you are planning to buy a non WM phone i don't think you will be able to transfer the messages.
Where does that file reside ? It isn't in Windows...

True, but what about being able to keep them on computer and be able to read them ?..
You can use jeyo mobile to transfer the text messages into outlook or use PPCPim backup and then extract the files inside which are csv files (like Mike crouch has already stated) the backup file can be copied to your pc and then extracted with winrar or winzip, its just a zip file anyway(just named differently) but if all you want is for them to be stored on the pc just use jeyo mobile and it will sync them to outlook for you and add an extra folder for them
While I'm a Mac user (yeah, I'll just get an iPhone someday), I do have an XP set up that I run, but my phone never connected to it. Nor would it connect to the Vista machine downstairs. So, connection-required actions just aren't feasible for me.
Back to PPCPim: I changed its backup file to a ZIP and got inside, but the different PIM files (tasks, messages...) are different .pb– files, where – is b or p or t... Changing them to .zip doesn't work. Is WinRAR supposed to decompress those as they are, .pb– ?
change the file extension to csv
Oh, those to CSV, ok. Thanks then.
What would open the CSV file ? Internet Explorer didn't.
Ok, got them open.
Talk about a mess of data ! But at least I can view them without Windows Mobile now. Thanks for the help.
Colleagues,
I know you can open Excel and Word files using the Fuze, but can you also edit?
Regards.

yes............
for word, the format will be a little different, so think of it more as a text editor
it's great to be able to listen to music, browse the web for resources, and type out reports all at the same time (take that, iphone )
An alterantive to QuickOffice that will allow you to not only read Word & Excel files, but also edit them?
cheers
If you want to pay there is "Documents to Go" its a great app
Second pimp for DocumentsToGo. It's a great app, but remember that within the confines of a small screen, editing large documents/spreadsheets isn't going to be particularly pleasant!

Dave

isn't it true that docs to go does not support .xlsx and .docx?
Version 2.0 does as far as I am aware.

There you go - supports Office 2007 documents :-D

i have v2.000(323) and cannot open windows .xlsx or .docx which are the file extensions for vista/office 2007. what's my problem?
however... when editing the file names to .xls or .doc after saved to sd, files open and are editable. (still not a fluid operation when wanting to quick read an attachment).
Does anyone know where the notes and highlights are stored, when you add them to a book?
Alternatively, is there a grep-like function that I can use when connecting via adb shell?
Thanks...
John
Bump. Good ?
notes and highlites are stored, I'm pretty sure, in data/data/ then in the folder of the app you used, IE:
com.amazon.kindle
com.bn.nook.reader
com.kobobooks.bordersus.android
In each of those folders are Database, Files, and Shared_Prefs folders, each containing varios xml files that appear to hold all that information...
- Will.
Still poking around in the Data and System folders....

You were right - they are stored in sqlite databases in those folders
This is an old thread but I had the same question and did a little digging.
I went to data/data/com.nook.reader.activities/databases/
and found a database file called annotations.db
I opened it and found:
android_metadata
annotations
sqlite_sequence
I'm an Android newbie but I opened the file with sqlitebrowser_200_b1_win and exported the annotations part of the table to a csv file which I could view in Excel.
Now clearly nobody will put this much effort into findings some highlights from a book but wouldn't this be a good opportunity for someone to put together an app to allow exportation of notes and highlights? The B&N boards are crawling with academic types like me complaining about the lack of this feature.
Does anyone know a good app I can download view and edit Excel or Word files on? I have tried:
OfficeSuite
E-cell xls
Word To Go
I have attached a copy of the Excel file I am trying to manipulate on the G-Tab. I am able to open, view, and edit the file (well sort of edit). If you view the file file via Excel on you computer you will see it has "check boxes" but I am not able to see them on any of the above mentioned apps. Does anyone know of an app that I can do this with?
The form is being created for use in a physicians' clinic, to help avoid the the clutter of paper and eligible writing.
I was not able to upload (size limit) the Word file I want to be able to edit. But this file is filled with "drop down" menus which do not show up when opened on the G Tab.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Dave
That Excel sheet is full of Windows Forms controls. Since those are ActiveX controls I doubt *very* seriously you are going to find any programs on the G Tablet that will allow this file to work correctly. ActiveX, if you aren't familiar with it, is extremely Windows-centric. And at this point, fairly out dated.
