About a week ago I updated my post-911 fix Rogers HTC Dream to Cyanogenmod 4. It ran quite slowly, obviously, but it was much better than having Android 1.5 apps and a useless "smartphone". After just recently reading about Froyo and Cyanogenmod 6 I decided that the apparently streamlined update would be a good idea. I heard it was significantly faster. And then the trouble started.
I updated my recovery image to RA-dream-v1.7.0R (R because as I understand it the post-911 fix is EB1I) because the wiki said the cm recovery had troubles with CM6. After looking over the appropriate information that said I did have DangerSPL (fastboot says RADIO-3.22.26.17, and HBOOT-1.33.2005) and so on, I continued. I downloaded CM6 and the appropriate Google Apps package, moved them to the root directory of the SD Card, installed the zips (CM6 first) with Amon_RA and restarted the phone.
When I did so, the phone would not boot past the Rogers logo (which formerly appeared before the HTC and Cyanogen boot screens). After about 15 minutes I had to pull the battery. I went back into the recovery and enabled USB mass storage, when I looked at the SD Card it was completely empty.
Yeah.
So, I've put CM5 and CM6 as well as their corresponding Google Apps packages on the sdcard.
If I haven't bricked my (already useless Rogers Wireless 1.5 and not updating) phone, what should I do next?
Thanks for any help.

Wow. So it was just the radio I misunderstood?
Given that this is my regular phone, you truly made my day. Thanks for taking the time, Sleeepy2.
you have to flash the ebi1 for every Rom

I was running JF 1.42 for several months, and not thinking about it (as I always used cyanogen mod before this rom) and seeing my buddys new nexus one, I wanted to get the newest cyanogenmod and see what it had to offer.
I went to his site and took a look at the wiki and got to here.
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Upgrading_From_Older_CyanogenMod_or_other_rooted_ROMs
Again, not thinking as I thought i was running Cyan (and not JF) i worked through that, moving the files to my sd card, until I noticed that I couldn't "Apply any zip from SD", so I went here
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Manually_renaming_files_on_old_recovery_images
And when i change the directory to sdcard, it doesn't show anything on my sdcard to change teh name to sd (and its on there, tried two different cards). Even typing in ls it doesn't show ANYTHING under the sdcard directory. I looked throughout all the directories i can access and don't see the files anywhere.
And I'm now stuck on the G1 screen when I boot, and although it'll install & apply an update from the recovery boot screen, it just freezes there (let it sit for 25 minutes).
I tried a bunch of stuff, and can't hook it up to my comp via ADK (as i can't boot my phone) and I've been on here for 3 hours searchign for stuff and installing/trying all kinds of stuff
Any ideas? Shoudl I just throw the stock firmware on there and go from there (re-root?)?
I see that JF 1.5 build doesn't require me to install the 1.50 radio from the htc page at the same time as the cyan's. I'm gonna try to update to JF 1.5, then JF to newest cyan
What? All you need to do to install a Cyan ROM is flash the ADP1 recovery-ROM, then Cyan imedietly afterwards, following usual protocol(wipe data, dalvik, ext, fix ext, wipe data again, then flash the ADP1, then Cyan)
Excuse my lack of direction lol, I've been out of the rooting scene since mid last year lol.
Is the recovery rom from cyanogen?
The only one's I get from a search are:
http://www.google.com/cse?cx=partne...f&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=adp1+recovery+rom&sa=Search
Again, sorry for seeming like a noob, I hate it when I go on forums where I'm the expert, but I've searched for hours tonight, and i'm completely lost
And whats this 'usual protocol', I've never had to do that ( I never had apps to sd or anything )
Thanks
I've tried flashing multiple roms, every one sticks at the g1 screen.
I just tried flashing a recovery image, but I'm getting "sh: flash image not found"
Can anyone point me in the right direction here????
I've been on XDA today for atleast 3 hours and havent gotten anywhere, I have owned my G1 since dec. 08, rooted it, and kept the firmware at 1.1. I have jesus freak recovery 1.41.
Like I said, I've been on XDA forums for 3 hours already and haven't had any clarity what so ever and am just frustrated right now. Without being 100% I managed to upgrade to 1.6 withy cyanogen 4.2.15.1 I lost everything that was on my phone, it hurts but I'm just frustrated to the point right now that the phone is functioning slower than before and theres lag between the screens and functions. With the upgrade, all of the phones original fucntions "contacts, alarm clock, calculator, etc." force closed and nothing worked, i tried to factory reset and because of the stupid sync issue from the begining skrewed me and about half of my info saved to my google account. I'm so frustrated right now.
I need to know how to install the newest recovery to hopefully work with Nand because I had to Manually rename the DRC83_base_defanged to update.zip and then had to manually rename update-cm-4.2.15.1-signed to update.zip to install each one at a time without having the ability to freely choose what zip i wanted to install.
I haven't been able to find what issues there are with using another phones firmware on the G1, i've seen the Hero firmware, the home screen looks gorgeous and runs like a dream, but I haven't been able to find anything saying that it is okay or a BAD idea to attempt to install it, also I havent been able to find any info on finding the newest g1 firmware or any mods to be able to make the g1 firmware look like the hero, or any other android platforms. I have just found constant cooked firmware after firmware with a hard time decyphering why one may be better than the other. If someone could help me, I would GREATLY appreciate it.
I continute to run into threads "how to root" or "down load this, and download this, and assuming you have something with options you dont have, make it work like this"
Please someone help.
First you need to upgrade your recovery b/c the one you have is very very Ancient with a capital A....You have to wipe before you flash the defanged then flash cyan w/o rebooting.
I want to upgrade my recovery, but I haven't found anything that can help me upgrade the thing. any links to tell me how to do it? and is there no order that I have to install the firmware? instead of having to go from 1.1 to 1.5 to 1.6, can i just go from 1.1 to 1.6 in one hit?
step 1: search the development forum for amon ra's recovery. read the instructions to flash it.
step 2: go to cyanogenmod.com and read the instructions for upgrading from scratch.
once you've done those two things, you'll be much happier.

You don't re-root when you need to change roms you just wipe in recovery mode
You need amon_ra
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4647751#post4647751
Like the other guys have said, upgrade to Amon_RA recovery. This allows you to flash updates from any filename, not just update.zip. The link is in my signature, or it's on the G1 Dev Forum in the sticky threads.
After that, boot into recovery and go to the Wipe section. Wipe all the things there, not just data. I never used to wipe everything either and I found that was the source of alot of my problems when changing ROMs. Obviously if you have your SD card partitioned and you choose to wipe your ext then you will lose what is on there.
Cyanogen has good instructions on his Wiki, but basically you want to flash DRC83_base_defanged, DO NOT reboot, and flash CM over the top straight away, then reboot your phone and you'll have a nice clean CM install.
This flashes the HTC Developer image which includes legal Google apps (Gmail, Maps, etc) and then flashes CM over the top which includes all his cool changes but does not delete the Google apps which we aren't supposed to distribute because it's illegal. Perhaps you are not aware, but Cyanogen got a Cease & Desist letter from Google, which is why we now do the defanged base method. More ROMs are moving to this method as time goes on, Pay's ROM and Super D are two which do this.
As an aside, I have found CM is not the fastest ROM. Some people have had better success with a ROM called Super D which is quite popular and includes many of the Eclair bits and pieces which CM does anyway. I personally use Dwang's ROM which is a much more plain Donut image however it absolutely flies. Both of these are linked in my sig, and are usually within the first few pages of the G1 Dev Forum anyway.
Thank you guys so much! I really appreciate how helpful the community has been. I've been having some issues with the the upgrading and maintaining because of my memory card slot dying out. A lot of the times the system will not register that I have my micro sd card in it or it'll say the sd card is blank. I just hope the phone lasts the extra 6 months till the end of my contract

I used to have this problem too, but it went away when I moved to 1.6 (coincidentally the same time I replaced the SD Card that came with my phone with a new Class 6 card). So either the upgrade of the OS or the SD Card fixed it.
In going to have to try the new men card cause the system is already at 1.6 but the phone is still trying to kill itself.

Hi All,
I have a HTC ADP1 phone. For a long time I continued with the stock ROM and then later switched to cyanogen 4.x. Over the period of time, I've updated from that all the way to the latest 6.x ROM, changed the SPL and also changed the Radio.
Since the past 1 week I've been a little disappointed with the speed and then decided to switch the ROM (after discovering the many options available). After researching for quite a while I settled on the list of following ROM's.
1. BiffMod v2.0.1
2. Superfly TCBY 1.3 DS
3. SpeedTeam v3.1.1
My initial configuration was the following:
DREAM PVT 32B ENG S-OFF
HBOOT-1.33.2005 (DREA10000)
RADIO-2.22.19.26I
CyanogenMod: 6.0.0 DS
The first ROM I tried was BiffMod, which mentioned that it requred Radio 2.22.23.02. So I went ahead and downloaded that radio and flashed the same (Via recovery. AmonRA 1.7.0). After that I did the necessary wipes/reboots and flashed BiffMod and then BiffModGapps.
It all seemed good, and probably for the about the rest of the day it seemed to be fine. However doing some more research I came across Superfly TCBY 1.3 DS. I decided to flash that and went ahead and did it. Once again wiping and flashing as necessary.
Then in order to try out SpeedTeam I went through the same cycle.
I noticed all throughout though that the signal was weak. So I went ahead and flashed the radio intermittenly, hoping that it would resolve the problem. I've probably flashed the phone 5-6 times that day (hopefully this will not cause any damage).
Now however, I'm on SpeedTeam. I notice that my apps are disappearing between reboots and overall the phone feels very unstable. Places where I never had any issues with the signal (my office/home) there seems to be absolutely no signal.
I read somewhere that flashing the radio via recovery might not be the best idea, so I went ahead and did it via fastboot along with erasing the system via fastboot.
Since the signal issues, I have tried reverting to my old radio (26I) and cyanogen ROM 6. I still face the same network issues.
Steps I've followed during my flashes are the following:
1. Wipe system/cache via fastboot
2. Wipe all others via recovery
3. Flash radio
4. Reboot
5. Wipe all
6. Flash ROM
7. Reboot
8. Flash Gapps
9. Reboot.
Is there any way to figure out what is going on or is there something wrong I am doing?
The only stupid thing I did was take a nandroid backup and then lost it during one of the sdcard re-partitions. So now I don't have a nandroid backup either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time in advance.
So recently I've been experiencing a rather serious problem with my factory 911patched Rogers Dream and no matter how many different solutions or workarounds I've tried, I can't seem to correct it. Rather than continue to clutter anyone else's threads I figure that if I compile everything here that I've done/tried so far, then perhaps someone who actually knows what they're doing can push me in the right direction.
The summary
911 Patched Rogers Dream, Rooted the day the exploid method came to light, and at that time installed CM5.0.8
Downgraded to 2x Radio to be able to use Ebi0 roms
Didnt find anything to my liking on ebi0, so reflashed 3.22 Radio, recovery & DangerSPL
Now I can't install any new roms. No matter how many times I try to erase system -w and boot via 'Fastboot erase' there seems to be something stuck somewhere that causes a loop any time I try to install a rom from SD via recovery (1.6.4, 1.7.0, 1.7.0R, all with matching Radio/SPL's)
The only things I've been able to successfully loadup on my phone since i tried to upgrade back to ebi1 are
The Nand Backup I did just before downgrading to ebi0
the orange-1.58.73.2.nbh "reset" nbh Terry linked to in his 2708-enabled custom kernel thread
The rogers rogers_1.89.631.1.nbh that puts me back to stock Rogers Dream. I've since ReRooted with Exploid and installed DangerSPL again, and done a Nand Backup, so at the very least i have a "clean" Rooted install (that I know of)
I guess my question is, what can I try now? All my rom installs keep failing, so my only option now is to restore back to the craptastic Rogers 1.5 build, or a broken CM5 with ghost traces of Apps2SD references and all sorts of FC's
I also just learned about the wonders of posting Logcat data, so this is what my Rogers 1.5 bootup gives me, if it helps...

I don't want to be the person who says "fix this" for me, I just feel like there's something outside of my skill level that's wrong here, and I'm just looking for a helpful push in the right direction, so to speak.
Thanks to everyone who has contributed so far with this.

This is the logcat for my unsuccessful Cm5.0.8 install. After the rogers splash, it just goes to a black screen, I don't get the Blue or Multicoloured X that should come up on first install
Hello great guru internet:
I have had few issues trying to flash CM7 for the first time and I spent a fair bit of time at it so I think that I did the right things.
OK I started with stock Froyo (JL2 Bell Canada) and then speedmod to get root again and recovery. I also tried EZ base and even EZ boot.
Regardless I seem to lose my IMEI settings (which I think I can restore but any tips on avoiding the need would be great - but I have back ups). Otherwise the install went fine and everything looked OK (via recovery - rom manager seems to have issues too that I have yet to look at and I am fine for the recovery approach). I mean if fine is 1/2 storage and no phone functions....
The bigger issue that I was trying to avoid is the lack of access to the external SD. I understand that it should be now in /mnt/emmc but how come when I open a file explorer it still shows an sd/external_sd (but no data) and no files in the mnt/emmc folder. The system settings also show the space of the existing data as used (ie not included in available space).
So I read that Froyo bootloaders are a must must must and I did did did but still cannot seem to get it. The JL2 firmware does have a .sbl in it as all the 19000m variants were dying and that was part of the fix so maybe that screws up the process? I tried another stock froyo rom but it would not boot. I could try eclair jh2 to EZ base but have not yet as apparently the body still needs sleep.
I have been on GB roms for the SGS (various) but I have been getting some errors with the file system (that is somehow relatedthe external SD - as have some other users in another q/a thread). I started this project on Darky 9.5.
Getting back to JL2 has been OK Thanks to Got_Milk on Cyanogen forums!!! if I had realized that the samfirmware was missing the DB_data for JL2 I would have saved about 1/2 the flashes I've done in the last week.
Any pointers - threads to review (or re review) - thoughts -suggestions - flaming etc?
Thanks
G
