The old thread filled with sparse reports of Cyanogen Nightly release experiences has gotten old in the tooth. As we approach the release of 6.1.0, I feel it necessary to start fresh and record configurations (dates, kernel's, etc) with details that have the potential to benefit us all.
I am currently running the #169 nightly and an underclocked kernel (shooting for battery life at the moment), and have run into no stability issues thus far. This includes use of both wireless and bluetooth features.
Please reply with your positive or negative take on CM nightlies for the Incredible Build #100 or newer. Thank you!
Anecdotal Reports for 169:
-Video camera functions, Infinite focus only
-LEDs function as expected. Please remember Pule under your audio settings
-Stock kernel performs VERY well, however invisibleKs may improve your mileage

Can you verify that the built in wifi tethering works (using adrenylynes kernel)? if that doesn't, what about the wifi tethering app, and if it works, what version are you running, pre9?
I ran nightly 9/19 starting last night until now. The email FC problem seemed fixed from the 6.0.2 but i would get random restarts and incredilight would FC alot.
Cant wait for 6.1
i'd recommend using the HTC flashlight apk.. it works without the sense framework (works with cm6).
you can grab it from the themes/apps forum.

Unless I found the wrong post, the com.htc.flashlight.apk that was ported over from the Desire 2.2 Rom does not use the LEDs, but uses the screen instead. That is pretty gay.

I am using the 9/19 version. With adrenylynes kernel the built in wifi does not work.....the pre9 does work. I just tried this kernel to see if it worked or not.....it does not allow adb wireless to work, so I went back to Koush's stock kernel. I have not had any problems running the stock kernel and my battery life is quite good.

Does anyone know when 6.1 will be released? I can't wait to be able to hold the back button and close the app.
I can confirm that wifi-tether (packaged and pre-9) both function as expected. No reboots overnight. Uptime of 21 hours, wifi and bluetooth on and off, mostly the former. Installing 9/20, no wipe.
i was running the 9/15 nightly for a few days with minimum apps to test stability. still had the "temp drop" problem on both incoming and outgoing calls. battery life was abysmal (8-10 hours max, light usage...something was keeping my cell standby in the same percentage as display usage and chewing up battery).
last night i got several freezes, reboots, and two battery pulls. so now i'm on 9/20 nightly. so far so good for stability, but already down 20% 2 hours after unplugging. something isn't letting my phone sleep; any idea what it might be, or how to find out? i'm running relatively few apps at the moment, but see no performance differences to when i had a ****-ton of apps/widgets running.
edit: emmc still doesn't mount in windows. shows up as 660 MB according to the OS's "SD Card and phone storage", but all the Gee Bee's are being reported as 6.6 GB under astro.

Are you using the most recent Trillian beta? If so, set it to battery saver mode or it will drain the crap out of your battery. The polling frequency on the regular mode is too frequent.

This.
Started with 6.0.2, upgraded to 9/20 nightly with no wipe. I've previously tried KK, CM6's stock kernel, and adrynalyne's AOSP kernel. Of the four, this newest undervolted kernel is performing like an absolute champ. Tethering (both built-in and pre9) is working, and I am having none of the CDMA signal attenuation issues while also using the WiFi radio that I previously had.
Somebody is getting laid for this.

sounds awesome, I am installing latest now and will follow suit.
So I've run a few different versions of Cog and Perception, and there is always one thing or another that just isn't quite right for me, currently it's the issues in both with contacts not syncing very well, if at all. So I'm thinking about going back to stock and just rooting so I can still use TB, as well as kill all the bloatware.
My issue with that is that my USB port is very iffy. Most time I can't make my phone connect at all, so I send ROMs to my phone with bluetooth, and flash with ROM Manager. My question then, is there anyone out there who has basically a flat stock rom, plus root, and w/o the Bloat that I can DL and flash? And a totally stock one, for that matter, so I can at the very least have it for when a real 2.2 eventually shows up...
Alternatly, is there a 2.2 or 2.2.1 ROM out there that the contacts actually sync on? I like Cog and/or Perception, but as far as I can see there are a lot of questions about the contacts, and no answers or solutions.

I was thinking of just waiting for the official 2.2 update and maybe just a lag fix. I updated to the 2.2 beta for a while. This weekend I took the leap and flashed phoenix 4.1 plus a few of the posted fixes because I was tired of waiting and the lagginess of the beta. I couldn't be happier. It's fast, lag free, fully functional. We will see this week if there are any calendar and contact syncing issues, but I don't expect any.
I've been thinking the same thing as the OP, because whenever I try a custom rom, wifi seems to rape my battery in the background. I know, some people say that I should be leaving it off if I'm not using it, but I like my stuff on autosync and I live on campus (where wifi is everywhere). On wifi with stock + root, my captivate grabbed emails faster than my ipod touch 4th gen. Battery life drained 1% every 2-3 hours idling, and wifi never even shows up on the battery usage list. On custom roms, on the other hand, my battery drains 1% each hour idling due to wifi, according to the battery info...
The one big thing that draws me towards these custom roms is that they're so darn aesthetically pleasing
Serendipity works wonderfully, the contacts sync perfectly. It's not stock though.
I had the same problem with Cog as the OP. As in syncing not working. i flashed to Serendipity last night and it sync'd up right away. and it is faster than Cog. But the phone has locked up twice. once in google nav and the other in google map. to the point where i had to yank the battery. power button did nothing. so thinking about a total stock rom too.
Been running custom roms since september. Can not stay on stock for more then 5 minutes, the phone is unbelievable slow.
Making things work right is part off the fun. I get over 24 hrs use without charge and everything works on current configuration.

So about how much % do you drain on your custom roms after a day of use? On stock + root + lagfix, I find my phone to be smooth, and I lose about 25% per 24 hours with my normal uses (text, perhaps 10 - 20 minutes of phone call) and wifi enabled 24/7. It's nowhere near unbelievably slow.
I'm on serendipity now, but my battery has been draining 1% each hour with wifi enabled when I'm not touching it.

I use my phone much more then you do by your description. So it is hard to compare. My screen is on 4hrs a day, but honestly why would anyone need a phone that last 4 days without needing a charge? No outlets in your neck of the woods?
Over night I will drain about 1-2 % when idle

I don't need it to run 4 days without charging, but having a nice reservoir of juice for when I need to do something in class (voice record, video record, etc) I can have no problem. I just don't like losing about 6-7 per night of idle. I'm not doing anything different on serendipity compared to what I do on stock, so I'm not quite sure why it gets raped overnight.

I would have told you, but I just now flashed paragon for a spin LOL (you can probably tell I'm not ready to give up on custom roms at all, despite what I said about my battery on stock being better).
This rom's got the JK4 modem and paragon kernel.
Honestly I liked serendipity's aesthetics a bit better; I know it uses JK4 modem but I don't remember what kernel [speedmod perhaps?]
On the side note, about wifi sleep policy--correct me if I'm wrong--does that use 3G while screen is off? I'm always walking around campus with wifi everywhere, and I've always had wifi enabled. I use a wireless router in my room, so unless I'm misunderstanding something, wouldn't it be beneficial that I leave wifi sleep policy to never?
You can try it both ways.
I changed my kernel to hardcores latest k12s 500 hz.
Paragon is jpy base you can flash any theme that is compatible
I think I used stock the first day I purchased the phone, and that's all. Ever since, I've only used two ROMs on a consistent basis, Cezar's Basic ROM, and Cognition 3.xx.
I always wondered how the stock ROM with lagfix, and removed bloatware would perform...

Change the Wifi Sleep Policy to "When screen turns off" or "Never when plugged in".
Even so, 1% per hour means you'd last over 4 days.
Went to pheonix last night, thought it was working great, and it had my contacts. For a while, then they disappeared again. Plus, when I get an incoming call instead of ringing I lose all service, though I can make outgoing calls.
I have Cog 2.38 and 3.04, Perception 10.2, Firefly, Pheonix, and stock + root all on my phone, along with ROM manager Pro and a willingness to use it.
I'm begining to think the contacts issue is related to Rogers 2.2 and/or 2.2.1, just because I never had this issue until I used them. I know my 2.38 works good, but I''m going to try firefly and then I think i'm going to figure out a lagfix to put on stock + root and see where that gets me before I got back to 2.38.
All and all, I'm just waiting for an Atrix at this point. Pass this on to my wife, who won't mind it at stock, and play with the new phone. Unless she decides she wants the Atrix. Ack.
Just wanted to gather together the current remaining problems with CM7. What apps don't work, what's unstable, etc...
It actually seems very stable for me. I like it more than nookie froyo. With the 1.1ghz kernel it runs very smooth with launcher pro.
Every app I've tried works fine, and best of all - they show up in the market.
Its definitely worth a try, you can always go.back to what you had if you don't like it - just make a backup.

Bawb3, are you using dalingrin's overclocked kernel? If so, are you able to mount your nook on your computer via USB? I just installed the kernel last night and I'm unable to get USB debugging to come up when I plug in. I tried on Windows 7 and OSX and nothing happened in either OS.
Other than that, I love CM7. I started out on Customized Nookie Froyo, but I was having major issues with scrolling speeds and weird market issues. So far CM7 has been rock solid and blazing fast. I would recommend you give it a go.
Just make sure you use one of the latest nightlies if you do. The customized versions are nice, but no one does CM7 like the actual team.
New NC user this week, I've been running CM7 on eMMC for about 48 hours (first nightly v12, now v13) and it's been very stable. DSP video is the major thing lacking. Flash is smooth (including Hulu). I am having some trouble with seeing my installed/purchased apps in the Market but there are work-arounds I haven't tried yet.
I noticed in v12, Google Reader worked 100% fine and Maps FC'd. Now in v13, Reader scales down to 480x320 as soon as I open an article, but maps works fine. I've read this is a problem with DPI settings but I haven't got around to fixing it.
Overall if you're sick of B&N's Android, CM7 on CWM 3.0.1.0 seems to be the most stable of all the ROM's I tried, even in its nightly stage. But I have read of other peeps having major problems. I just really love Gingerbread. Google has really got a winner with 2.3
battery life is horrible w/ CM7, lots of drain when sleeping.

I'm not too concerned with the battery drain considering the tear downs have shown that the battery is plugged in and not soldered onto the board. By the time we kill these batteries with multiple charges someone will have put out a kit to replace the battery yourself...just like with the ipods that weren't supposed to have user replaceable batteries.

I turn off WiFi when I'm not using it (you could use Tasker to have it automagically go off/on at sleep/wake) and battery life improved significantly. I'm guessing when wifi is on, a lot of background activity happens.
But battery also isn't a big deal for me either. I probably use the thing for about an hour a day untethered, and the rest of the time it is plugged in.

It might be that an app like TweetDeck is scheduled to get updates every 3 minutes or something. I make sure to turn all of that stuff to manual as I pick up the Nook with checking it in mind anyway and can wait the few seconds it takes after I hit refresh.

Yes, battery life was was a lot better in Froyo for me. However I had a load of other problems in Froyo such as market intermittently not working, wifi problems, flash not working in firefox. I am sure it could be fixed, but it worked out of the box in CM7 and I liked CM7 UI much better.
Is anyone running CM7 out of an sd card?
If you're seeing battery drain, it seems SetCPU profiles eat up a lot of CPU. Just use the inbuilt settings (Settings > Cyanogenmod Settings > Performance > CPU)
Dalingin posted a new kernel that supports USB mounting on N13+ and also a new Interactive governor which should be faster.
DSP is really the only thing missing. I replaced Google Reader with a dolphin bookmark to the smartphone site, which I feel works a bit better anyway.
I just watched the video below and am pretty close to loading this. I tried Nookie Froyo was wasn't happy at all. I actually like the rooted stock appearance and performance except for the lack of flash. I just wish these ROM's allowed me to make the home screen look like the stock experience with the "continue reading" options on top and the stock B&N reading/store app.

I'm running CM7 v13 and I feel like this is the best one overall. I had a few minor hiccups with the wifi but i found a work around to it.
Contrary to what people say, I am impressed with the battery life. This is why. The original NC is used as an e-reader, but i purchased it as a tablet. I haven't had alot of experience with it, but i was able to get at least 6 hard hours out of it with the OC. Left it on overnight (roughtly 6 hours) with wifi and battery only dropped like 5% which is pretty good to me.
The only gripe i have is the DSP but that's tolerable considering all the other advantages of it.
The xda community has been very helpful and alot of the quirks with it has already been worked out if you do some searching in the threads.
Just my 2 cents.

Quick question on the nightlies: If I update from lets say #13 to #14, does it erase everything I had installed? or is it just and update that keeps all the apps and settings?
I am on #13, and some problems I noticed:
- Wifi would go on and off by itself coming out of sleep
- The "clear" notification button is REALLY unresponsive (might be a hardware issue thou)
- Takes FOREVER to charge (more than 5 hours)

As long as you don't wipe your data (though do wipe your cache) before reflashing, it should keep everything. It kept everything for me from v12 to v13, and then kept everything from v13 to v14. You should always double check the important stuff though.
I have the same responsiveness problem with the Clear button, but I'm 99% certain that's the hardware. I have had response/accuracy problems consistently in the corners of my screen, especially the top. Since the problem was on stock, nookie froyo, and CM7 (it's actually a lot better on CM7 than stock), I'm guessing it's the touch panel's fault.
Charging goes a lot faster for me if I've got it plugged into a wall (like 2 hours for 30% to 100%) instead of my computer. Probably a lower current coming through the USB on my computer than from the wall plug, I get the same difference when charging my Milestone. Don't know why the ROM would affect charging at all.
The only main problem with CM7 is that video acceleration doesn't work. That means no Youtube app, Orb app, playing x264 files with the local player, etc.
That is a deal breaker for me, but if its not for you then.....
Ok...this is going to sound completely outrageous! It seems outrageous to me even I have never had this good of battery consumption ever! The phone was purchased 16/08/10 and has retained the standard battery all this time and had various Samsung ROMs on it. Mostly DarkyROMs that have improved battery quite considerably. It currently has its first stable ROM of ICS since I started flashing ICS from just prior to RC1. The ROM is a bit of a mix-matched frankenstein build of a ROM by me originated from MyICS and OneCosmis RC3.1. I have recently experienced allot of issues (including very poor battery drain) prior to this last flash and so have many of my users...actually most jumping **** (and I don't blame them).
My last ROM flash seemed to stable and go through perfectly, I was running with my own 2.0.1 and was about to release this ROM (that I'm currently on from a system dump) as a 2.2.0 version update for everyone else.....however I have held back because of the announcement of RC4.....so any of the improvements I haven't released. The install procedure backs up battery stats so as not to need re-calibration and has done so for the last 3 or 4 install. I am running the latest platypus kernel made for RC4 though
Anyway the last time I had my phone on any decent charge 22hours ago. It's currently 10.40pm EST and phone went on charge about 12.30pm lastnight. Since then I have had data left on (something I wouldn't normally do...I was used to renaming APN prior to ICS) and wifi on* (granted I have latest Juice defender ultimate)
*set to trained locations to auto-on within 250m of known wifi access point and disable 3G when wifi connected
I have gone the whole day today, with a small amount of internet (damn genie widget gets me every time with cool interesting things flashing up on the screen lol) and moderate phone usage; texting and a hand full of 10-15min phone calls....nothing out of the ordinary.
I plugged the phone to USB to transfer some things from work and it was plugged in for approximately 15-20seconds. I use multi-mount SD card app (I have included the lite version in my ROM) and allows for fast transactions and also to be able to use the phone whilst connected etc (read up about it). And I did the same here at home to transfer the things off again. It has remained sitting beside my PC untouched (unusual cause I like to fiddle) for the last 3 hours...and decided to pick it up and glaced at the battery 90%. Ok so I waited another hour and glanced again and STILL 90%.
Is there something weird going on here that I should know about? My phone has never been this good even if I left it completely on standby and in flight mode it would have eaten more than that! It seems almost stupidly impossible.
Fill me in on your take of this situation? Happy to do a complete system dump to try figure this sh!t out cause I made so many mods last ROM update I wouldn't know which one is contributing or if all or none?
edit: included more information
It's now 2:20am I am going to bed. My phone is 86%
A drop of only 4% in nearly 4hours. 1% per hour is not too bad
How do you handle synchronization, and why kind of tweaks do you perform with juicedefender?
heh i know what you mean
Im using as well icssgs rc4 (pulled) for 3 days, and right now i have 10% left after 29 hours of using my phone as wifi, downloading, sync, calls, sms and some music, all i can say is that rc4 +platypus kernel is the beast for the battery. my phone never lasted for such a long time, even on rc3.1 it used to die after 18 hours of being idle.
Reporting
7am 77%
10am 62%
10.55am - poor signal and market prompted to download an update for LinkedIn battery has plumited to 23%
36hours use and still 23% battery is pretty good. At least the resil
I will be making a deodexed version of RC4 sometime soon with a few extra bonuses ....however it won't be all that special as I have been giving away my secrets everywhere on the forum to help others on any ROM (not just my own) so anything included in my next release will be old news lol
Juice defender? Tweaks? I am not sure what you mean? You mean what are my settings?
Ok...wtf? Battery is climbing back up again now? That is something that has never happened before! Im on 26% again
realy ? ))
Offfical time of death 4.34pm EST. approximately 40hours after full charge. I am stoked with that.
Edit: I will be making a donation to Platypus Kernel right now
Can you tell which rom you had before flashing rc4 and another question are you experiencing any other problems with the rom like sd problems because im considering to go rc4 too.

I am still running RC3.1, I am just using the RC4 kernel
I am in the process of developing my own RC4 ROM based off this RC3.1 (my own version of it anyway) that is the first ROM I have that is stable. All versions of my ROMs prior to this have been very unstable. ROM is still odexed so that will be my first point of call and then repackage and get it up and running.
I am in the process of compiling some java code for wifi calling on vibrant though so I am too busy to even start on my ROM
I've seen threads with this issue or that issue, but no single thread yet dedicated to issues that have cropped up for HTC Vivid users since the ICS OTA update.
I run stock-- No root, no custom rom, just stock the way it came from AT&T.
The phone has been wonderful. Battery standby time was phenomenal (on a full charge, I could expect to take my phone to work around 6:30 am, and see a minimum 60% to 75% left when I got home around 5:30 pm). I never experienced random reboots, crashes, etc.
Then I updated OTA to the new ICS using standard AT&T procedure-- This would be the official release, downloaded and installed last week.
Now, if I reboot the phone, I have to wait while it installs updates it already had when I installed ICS. This is a minor incovenience, but annoying.
I also see noticeably less standby time. I'm lucky now to have 50% left when I get home from work.
Most alarming, though, is the nightly crash on the charger. My dad is in and out of the hospital with heart issues, so turning off my phone to charge it isn't really an option. Every night since I updated, my phone random reboots on the charger (last night it did it twice).
So now I'm seriously wondering:
(1) Is anyone else having these new issues since updating to the official ICS release?
(2) Is there some way I can "downgrade" to the more stable version my phone had before (the extra features and tweaks aren't worth the tradeoff for stability and standby time)?
Thanks to any and all who take the time to consider this post and reply accordingly.
Why not try downloading the official RUU since you are still locked,
http://www.htc.com/us/support/vivid-att/downloads/ and install it
sounds like something scewed up when you uploded the OTA update via phone.
A little more detail...
I think it's important to note that these random reboots I've been getting since upgrading to ICS are only partially random.
They only happen when the phone is on the charger and "on." I recall a "charge death" issue with my old Samsung Captivate that perhaps I'm experiencing now with the upgraded HTC Vivid?
I know the obvious workaround is to charge it before going to bed, take it off the charger, then top it off the following morning. Perhaps I'll try that before doing the upgrade over again using the RUU. It's perplexing due to when it happens-- I know the phone doesn't require a full 3.5 hours to charge from, say, 35%, so it's some sort of charger keep-alive that must be forcing the reboot.
I'm still curious, though, to learn if anyone else is having these exact same issues after upgrade.
Thanks, Pumpiron579, for your suggestion! I've just downloaded the RUU and have it ready when I decide to try the update again.
I've upgraded to the latest ICS from AT&T and am not experiencing any of the reboot issues that you're speaking of. I put my Vivid on a charging dock and it goes into doc mode and is that way when I wake up in the morning. I even have it trip an alarm at 7AM. If it's rebooting overnight, I'm not aware of it. In GB there was a screen that told you the up time and sleep time. I can't find it on ICS otherwise I could confirm whether or not it is rebooting overnight.
As for battery life, it doesn't appear to be any worse than GB for me and for today, It's been on the battery over 1.5 hrs and still at 100% battery.

Select the Up time counter for more details
Thanks for that, homeslice, but I don't see overall up time. With GB, there was some counter that could show the hundreds of hours that it has been up since the last reboot.

I've never paid too much attention to this...but when you go in and click on the battery time underneath the battery level, there's another uptime below the graph that i figured was total uptime?
I updated with the RUU and have had no problems with my phone what so ever, I have had no reboots when chargeing and the battery life is about the same for my phone. Also my phone is stock with bootloader locked.
My battery life seems to be about the same. However, I am getting a better LTE signal - 3 bars vs 1-2 bars before the upgrade.
The one thing that I've found to be an irritation is that before the upgrade, any photos attached to emails were automatically saved in a folder accessible by the Gallery. After the upgrade, they are saved in the Downloads; and that folder is not accessible from the Gallery. I have to use a file manager program like Astro to manually move the photo file to one of the Gallery accessible folders.
If there's a way to fix this, I would be all ears.
Battery life sucks after ICS upgrade
after I upgraded to ICS my batter life sucks, it used to come for a day, now its reaching 15% before evening.
Is this a known issue, is there a way to get a better battery life
Thanks
everything is fine fore me except the android is upgrading part every power on.
is that a problem?

It's not a problem but a feature for all ICS installations.

As far as I can tell you get the android is upgrading/optimizing every time dalvik cache is cleared..which from what I can tell happens on every reboot with a Rom that's not deodexed..like the stock Roms. Get on a Rom that's been deodexed and this won't happen. Otherwise enjoy the feature lol

fix battery issues
Sorry to hear about the random reboots, and I hope a solution comes around. I personally have found no reboot issues at all. There is a problem with using Bluetooth hands free though, you can't press the call button on the device to make a voice call because Android removed the voice dialer so now you just hear a beep.
In regards to your battery, install Advanced Task Killer from the market. In the settings, set up the recommended kill list, the aggressiveness, and activate auto kill. I've been using it for a while and i can go all day with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Pandora, and other apps. After 10+ hours at work i get home with 35-40% battery still. Hope this helps. It also has a widget you can out on a homescreen so you can simply click and it kills what you set up already.
I used to have some random reboots in GB, turned to be an app or a widget that caused the problem. I did then a wipe amd installed minimal apps that I needed and didn't have the problem anymore. Then I started to install other apps one by one monitoring which one might be the problem, but I couldn't replicate it nomore. It was in the same time I experienced multiple (if not all of them) launchers and widgets so I don't even remember what I really had on it. This also might be for battery life too. Now I only use sense and the stock widgets and adw ex once in a while, I have >180 apps installed and no reboots and also battery life is very good.

Twice while streaming pandora over bluetooth I've had the phone just die. My music shuts off, screen is off, phones not responding, have to pull the battery. Also I've had issues with music skipping on bluetooth. Also third party apps won't show contact pictures that rely on Facebook. Worked fine before the
Update. Im considering wiping it and reinstalling everything.

I cannot see any updates on FriendStream event though I have my FB account linked to it.
I removed my FB account from "Accounts & Sync" synced it again received a notification "Allow HTC sense to access your FB account" and before Im able to click it the program keeps running and adds my FB account. Go to FriendStream and nothings there...
Found my issue
I have uninstalled few apps, seems to be that drained my batteries all day, now it looks better

I am having the same issue. I am working with HTC on this issue. I have no idea what is causing this. You will find that it does it more frequently, not only when it is charging.

So are we able to go back to the Original Stock/Shipped Rom if we don't like this update?
I saw some things I liked about it in the recent reviews, but others that I didn't.
