Motorola Milestone Engineering Edition - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

So i bought this phone of a guy, an he told me he was a phone dealer an that he owned a store an that motorola sent him this phone as a gift. the phone even has on it ingraded into it"confidential motorola restricted property: not for sale" and where the meid is located it says
"motorola engineering use only not for resale
The guy told me its unlocked to any network in the world, an when i turned it on, it had android 2.1
So what i wanted to do is upgrad it to 2.2 froyo. so i figured id have to degrade it first to 2.0.1. Thing is i dont know which sbf to download when using rsd lite, like ive tried the brazillian one, but i jus keep gettin error after erasing flash memory, it would go to 100%, then go back to zero percent, wait like 5 mins, an then error. so help would greatly be appreciated to get this phone runnin 2.2

i wouldnt downgrade it yet, take a copy of your current rom using nandroid and share it with the developers who are trying to open the bootloader - I would go onto modmymoto forums (http://modmymobile.com/forums/401-motorola-milestone/) and ask there what to do. Alternatively go onto the IRC channel (#milestone-modding) as they will know how to help you out and what to do with the current rom. IRC Log here - http://milestone.bekaakut.de/

Follow the previous advices!! Your help might be very appreciated by the devs community Thanks in advance!
PS: The Milestone (not DROID) still can't be upgraded officially to 2.2 (the only good cooked rom for Froyo is the MotoFrenzy but it uses the 2.1 kernel losing many features of the original Froyo release) so it's almost unuseful (and risky too) that you try to flash random SBFs

Yes! Send your backup to the folks on #milestone-modding!
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App

Please tell me you sent your backup to someone who could make use of it.

Get that NAND backup to someone now! We need an unlocked bootloader!!!!!

Install Openrecovery >> Make a backup of your current system (it will write to your sd card) >> upload your backup of your current system and upload it to the internet and drop it here please : http://modmymobile.com/forums/563-m...p-2010-motofrenzy-froyo-2-2-milestone-70.html
THANKS!

first of all if he is on 2.1 he cant run open recovery .
2nd you dont need to downgrade you need to flash the vulnerale recovery to unlock allpossibilities ,
what would be eally interesting to know is the bootloader version on your phone , thanks

He doesn't need to flash the vulnerable recovery, his device isn't signed.
Anyway, I don't think that this will help: our devices are in High Security Mode (HS), while engineering samples are in General Purpose Mode (GP) 'cause of the chipset soldering.
It's hardware, guys.
But IF I'M WRONG it'll help a lot!

so op disappeared?

Do you know mean somthing like this.. then even i have to... i think every phone has it..

All Milestones have the "MOTOROLA ENGINEERING" in the battery compartment. It's their own signature.

This guy has been posting this crap since early September. The Froyo 2.2 he is talking about is the Motofrenzy one. More likely he doesn't know what he is talking about.

it wont work.
1. it is a milestone and the boot combo must be signed by Mot.
until somebody finds a way around this or mot releases a 2.2 variant, we are screwed. some devs here have packaged 2.2 without the kernel, but some things do not work exactly like the release froyo.
2. dont buy NFR phones...they are pre-prod and not warrantied. they often have different hardware than release phones. the last Moto NFR phone i played with did not even work with RSD to flash it...
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App
thanks for the reply, an how sure are u that i wont be able to upgrade it to 2.2, because this phone seems like its already been rooted since it wont let me root it. it runs boot loader 90.78, an when i use rsd it seems to be working fine, until after the erase flash memory.

[Q] Sooooo Im pretty sure i f****d up big time....

So i decided to go on a Flashing spree today for no reason, i just felt like it..
I started out by flashing 2.2 on my 2.1 phone, that all worked out quite well, but for some reason i could not root it. ( I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845558) It all worked out nicelly but since i could not root it, i just game up on it.
After searching i found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475 to revert my phone back to its original firmware. I have a Galaxy s Vibrant, so i thought it was the correct thing. But since i installed it i have alot of problems.
First of all, when i plug it into my USB the phone auto turns off. And it will not charge when the usb is in.
I have rom manager installed, but when i try to run a rom, i keep getting the error (status = bad ).
Also the phone wont recognise my SimCard so i cant stay with this firmweare anyways.
flash back to a stock Froyo
then boot into the Recovery Mode
then wipe data, and wipe cache
see if that helps
Do you know the best place where i can get a stock froyo rom ?

It looks like you flashed the actual "Vibrant" (T-Mobile US) type firmware onto your Bell i9000M phone... I dont know if you can flash back as the Download and Recovery modes for the actual Vibrant are different than the i-9000 model phones...
@Allgamer, can you be of any further help?
btw i really hate Samsung right now, why would you release a phone called a i-9000m Vibrant, then release a phone under the brand name vibrant

I agree with you on this man. How confusing could they make it? I guess they did it to sort of distinguish our model of i9000M from the International version but couldnt they at least give a different name from the U.S. model?
They even look identical except for the fact that the U.S. Vibrant has 4 soft keys at the bottom where we have the 2 soft and 1 hard key...
Well now that my panic attack is over and my phone is back to normal after Flashing 2.2 on it ( FOR I-9000m even ).
I have another random question..... what is the best way to root 2.2.. since the whole point of the **** up was because i would not root it

I recommend the app called z4root by RyanZA. You can find it on the Market. It is a one click root that requires no flashing of any kind.
You may have to start the app and if it seems to hang for a while just perform a reboot and run the app again and it will root within 30 seconds. Also be weary in the Market as someone has stolen the icon and everything from RyanZA and the "rip off" app is NOT complete. Make sure the one you download states it is from RyanZA...

[SOLVED] Return to stock (unroot) without USB or without a computer (non-RUU method)?

Hey guys, please forgive me if I misuse my terminology here but I am still a padawan learner.
My wife's hero is rooted and running a cyanogen rom. All was well for months but now her usb plug is broken and NOT charging. I have not yet verified that the usb won't talk to the pc but I assume it's the case because I can't get the thing to charge. Of course i have tried 5 or 6 diff chargers, tried wiggling, etc. but i am convinced that there is a broken prong in the phones plug. The phone is under warranty for 2 more days but I understand that I need to flash it back to stock before trying warranty stuff.
I have searched and the answers I have found are to simply run the latest RUU from the htc website. I found it, no problem, but it is an .exe file and would require the usb to work, right? The phone is dead right now or i would test the usb>pc connection and I have arranged to briefly borrow a friend's battery later tonight. If i can't get the connection to work is there any other way to flash this thing back to stock? If I just download a stock rom and flash that then i will still be rooted right? Do they check that? and lastly what about running an OTA update? Any advice/ideas are greatly appreciated.
Come to think of it, I might have the original naandroid backup that i did of the phone back in the day. If i restore this, would it go back to stock?
Here's what you can do:
Go HERE and download the S-OFF bootloader.
Flash it
Download THIS - its the zip that gets uploaded/flashed when you run the RUU.
And..as per instructions on that page:
Simply rename this to HERCIMG.zip and place on the root of your SDCard.
Power your phone completely off.
Press and Hold VOL DOWN and POWER until your phone boots into HBoot mode.
Wait for it to verify the zip, then click <ACTION> (Trackball) to update, or <SEND> (Green Call) to cancel.
After it flashes you'll have a stock phone, with the stock bootloader
Its the same setup I have on my phone..Just in case I need to un-root on the fly Except I have two zips. One with the stock bootloader and one without so I can keep it unlocked.
Gotta love XDA, thanks so much. I may have found it if I had thought about searching for "stock sprint zip format". Hopefully the next guy will find this. I have been helped by your advice many times throughout the forums in my searches.

Hi, another noob here: SAKKA.
I also need to revert to stock. I already switched the phone number (just upgraded and giving Hero to daughter). So have to push everything from Mac via USB. Or do you know where i can chat now that AOSP is no longer running an online chat room (as far as I know)?

Good luck

i tried this! it was on the updating part and when it was almost done, the htc screen appear and it started all over with s-off. so it said fail.
Just curious, if phone is already activated to her # then why go back to horrible stock.
If u want a stock ROM flash liquid sense or nfx.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=643
From either of those two ROMs u can do all that stock can.. like activation, PRL updates, etc.....
So unless its going for service under warranty there is no need to unroot to stock.
Good luck

Radio files flashing for different carriers

Hi,
I am planing to flash T-Mobile radios to HTC Vivid since i have 1 sitting around useless. I know the risks, and willing to take it. I have heard one guy on this forums has achieved it alredy. I have downloaded KID and VK1 radio files already. But before I go ahead and screw up something would someone be kind enough and explain me how to flash these radio files step by step. Also one more thing i didnt find anywhere is where would be stock AT&T radio files that I can flash back in case T-Mo ones dont work? Am i at risk of softbriking phone in a way that can not be recovered? ( If not I am planing to go ahead with it). Someone with lots of experience of flashing radios, if you can provideme with step-by-step instructions, I will truely appreciate it.
Thanks.

I believe you would flash the radio partition like any other partition. Not sure if the phone will accept the foreign radio image, but it will be interesting to see the results. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong about the following:
1) You should have the drivers for your phone installed
2) Your bootloader should be unlocked via htcdev.com
3) Put the radio.img file that you would like to flash in the same folder/directory that contains your fastboot.exe file
4) Boot your phone into bootloader mode and choose "fastboot" mode then plug the phone into the PC USB.
5) In a command prompt window, go to the directory/folder that has your fastboot.exe and the radio.img file
6) Run this command: fastboot flash radio radio.img
I think it's a good idea to stand by for a bit and see if anyone corrects me, in case I am wrong. I'm thinking that if the phone doesn't accept the radio image, it will tell you and it won't flash. OR... if it does flash, and your phone doesn't boot properly, you should still be able to get into Bootloader->Fastboot in order to flash back your original radio.
To get the original radio from your stock RUU installer: When you run an HTC RUU exe, it takes a little time to extract whatever files it needs. Once you get to the very first step of the RUU (where you get to click buttons), I believe you can go to C:\Users\whoever\AppData\Local\Temp (for Win7 users) and then sort by modified date. You should see a folder that was very recently created. If you poke around in there, you may find a file called "rom.zip". That should be the stock rom from the RUU and the radio may be in there. Take a look...
the phone will be hard bricked. the only phones that i know can use a different model radio is smasung because they are developed very similiar.. u can try it and go to the unbricking process and see for your self.
This is a very bad idea.
The only HTC device that might have compatible radio us the HTC amaze. The amaze has a LTE radio but its disabled for the most part.
If it worked you would then have to figure out how to use the amaze ril as our ril would not be compatible.

So how do i proceed?
Thanks a lot guys for replying SO FAST,
Anyways If i do this and it briks, is it going to be permanent brick for radio??? Or is it a reversible process?
Also I was thinking of same that flashing radio files for HTC sensation or amaze would be far better idea than flashing ones from samsung, Can anyone point me in right direction where do i get them? I see in first reply the procedure posted of how to flash different radio files already. Let me know what you guys think...

Its all good Laziodroid, I just have this phone sitting around since I am no longer with at&t and wanted to do something, but found a seller who agreed to pay 250 for it so scrapped the plans to mess it up and just sold it, Anyways I just wonder if there was a way to get those radio files off of sensation or amaze and flash them on this phone or not?? Or it would have endedup briking phone as well, and more importantly would it be hard brick or soft brick? ( I mean recoverable or all hopes lost)??

bionic ... new chalange

Ok guys ... this is the problem ...:crying:
I have (had) a Droid Bionic running ics leak 232 in Brazil (GSM/UMTS ... thanks to xda developers - "bionic in t mobile" thread).
While messing around with the phone connected to linux (baaad idea) at some point I deleted the bootloader ("happy finger" + lack of knowledge os linux).
Now, my phone doesnt power up and RSD Lite doesnt recognize it when connected but, when I connect it to the PC, a green light lits at the top right corner of the phone and Windows recognize it, at the device manager, as a OMAP4430 USB under TI Board tab. This leads me to think that some kind of life still exists down there or, the hardware is alive and waiting for the right software.
After a long quest for a solution, I found this: "forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f634/unbrick-dead-samsung-gt-i9250-galaxy-nexus-gt-i9100g-via-usb-cable-freeeeeeeeeeee-1465412/index9.html".
Now I think this is the way out of this mess (is the same hardware, OMAP platform from Texas Instrument), if exists any, but this was made for Samsung, by Samsung technicians, and doesnt apply to Motorola. :crying: again.
So, is there anyone who can help me, or have any idea of what can be done (other than trow it away or use it as a paper weight)?
Any help would be most appreciated.
Regards
I saw you haven't had any replies yet. My roommate had a similar problem, he managed to mount his system partition automatically and thought his SD card was partitioned into 10 or more partitions.
So he reformated the mount and had a dead phone right after, said he only got a small white light on his notification light when plugged in.
I didn't get a chance to check it out before he took it to Verizon for a refurb, so sadly I'm not much help. Just thought I'd input anything I knew since you still had an empty thread. Hope it comes back alive!

Have you tried using the command line version of moto-fastboot? It might work, but might not work... I think you need to boot into fastboot mode, but I could be wrong... Either way it's worth a try.
Also, does anything happen when you try to hold down the vol+ and VOL- buttons when powering on the phone?

Thank you for your answer danifunker;
The phone is dead. Pressing buttons does nothing. The only thing that happens is to lit the notification green light at the top right corner of the screen WHEN a plug it in my PC and windows keep telling me this is a unknown device. I unsuccessfully used OMAPFlash, but installing the usb drives that came with it, when I plug it to the PC, windows device manager shows me a new device "OMAP4430 USB" under a new tab "TI Board" , whitch is not recognized by RDS lite or adb or fastboot. Is only recognized by OMAPFlash. If you dont know about OMAPFlash, I found it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1701471 , but this procedure is for a Samsung, witch uses the same platform (OMAP4430), but I dont have the right configurations for the Droid Bionic.
Just the same

Can you explain exactly how you deleted the bootloader off of the Bionic? Knowing EXACTLY (what you ran, what you typed) what you did will help us help you.
As an aside, I had no idea there was a SGSII-OMAP variant, but I am not big on the Samsung phones, just assumed they've only been using their own SoCs for a while now...
Hi podspi.
Sorry for the delay.
As a matter of fact, wasnt me that bricked the phone. A friend o mine tryed to flash a gelly beam version, and did it via Fastboot,, under Linux (of witch I know almost notingh).
He told me that the problem was that he made:
fastboot erase mbm
and then
fastboot reboot bootloader
and so the bootloader was lost. He missed a step.
Any help will be greatly aprecieted.
Regards
IOW, since the mbm has been erased, and the mbmflashable hasn't been flashed, there is no way to get it into the bootmenu sceen anymore, right?
Hmmm. Let me ask some other folks too.

I wonder if a factory cable would work to get it to flash mode? Why would you even mess with the bootloader trying to install ICS? You do that through recovery, not fastboot.
I was on ICS ... This was an attempt to get it to JellyBeen ... I, also, dont know why. I was perfectly happy with ICS working in GSM/WCDMA. This is why I am so sad ... It was a very stupid thing to do ... As a matter of fact, I will get a factory cable, but I dont think this is gonna help. Anyways, I am keeping it by side to remember me not to mess with things that are working fine. I'm kind of losing hope that it can fixed.

I think we need to figure out how you flash mbm back onto there. Actually, I think it's mbmloader that you need on there...
mbm = Motorola Boot Manager (?) maybe.
After reading this page: http://omappedia.org/wiki/Bootloader_Project
I believe, mbm = uboot, mbmloader = x-loader
Just found this page... http://www.droid-developers.org/wiki/How_to_load_mbmloader_from_SD_card
download the SBF and grab the mbmloader for ICS. See if you can get a little further...
SamuriHL sHouse of Bionic restored mine when all I could get was fastboot.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
It won't help this. It needs to be flashed at the omap level and since moto isn't about to release the configuration files for the Bionic you can consider this one permanently bricked.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk 2
I tend to agree with SamuriHL. I was thinking that the configuration souldn't be so diferent than others (like Samsung) that uses the same platform (omap). I know that it's naive, but what else could I do. Also, I need the signed files for x-loader and u-boot, of witch I think danifunker is right, this means mbm and mbmloader, that I have, but they came in bin format and not image format (.img). I will try to convert them to .img, but I am at the end of my resources (not that they are so many), and will give up shortly. At this point (giving up), I will buy another cellphone AND IT WONT BE A MOTOROLA, Probably a HTC or a Samsung. But I will keep Bionic at my desktop, as a paperweight, to remind me how I liked it, how I mess things up.
Anyways, if I manage to solve this problem, I will post here, and I wish to thank everyone that spare their time to try to help people. If anyone have any suggestion, I'll be glad to follow.
If you modify them in any way they'll no longer be signed and won't work. Someone else already went through several weeks of trying to fix their phone that had similar issues. He's well connected and still couldn't get the necessary files. Don't necessarily give up on Moto, though...it's not their fault we're stuck with locked bootloaders. Blame VZW for that one. Even Samsung was forced to lock the S3 on VZW. Things may change some day. We'll have to wait and see.
You can always get RAZR i with the unlockable bootloader! that might make things a bit easier...
IT'S DONE!!!!!!!!!
IT'S DONE ....... IT IS ALIVE AGAIN :highfive:
Guys. My phone is alive again. Thanks to FRAGULINA and PICGRABBER for their unvaluable help. It is now running GSM with data enabled (3G) with ICS 232, rooted, thanks to FRAGULINA and HTCFlyerX ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31101192&highlight=build+prop#post31101192).
Well, I'm attaching 2 zip files. One is omapflash and the other is "THE FILES", and instructions on the "release_notes.txt". This works on LINUX.
And works like a charm. Took me (much) less than 5 minutes to get me from a dead phone to bootloader fastboot. And the rest is history. Well known procedures.
Thanks to all of you that helped or tryed to help.
Enjoy.
To those who have an interest in new challanges (as I know you are), i'm opening a new quest and would appreciate your thoughts.
I have at hand an atrix 2 and I want to find where in hell is the subsidy code writen at and how can I read it. This new quest will be at the proper location at the atrix 2 forum.
I think we won this challange. Lets go for another.
Any doubts I am available to help.
Regards.
Holy.....uh, well, WOW! I'm in awe here on this one. WELL DONE!!!!!!!

Can we use this method to flash any firmware to the phone? Lets say you load the latest ICS, maybe we use this method which restores the most original bootloader to the phone and then flash to any version?
Which version did you fastboot to?
