Ive been searching this forum to no end to get some information on installing voodoo....every page I read has conflicting information. I have the leaked froyo JI6 and cannot find a voodoo lag fix only instruction set....if anyone with this ji6 has installed voodoo can you please tell me how and if its worth it? also whats with this reddening of the screen? Anyway thanks to all xda people this site rocks.
ps. in addition to the leaked froyo ive rooted with the one click super root. Just a beginner but this lag fix sounds like a necessity
You would have to flash a kernel that has voodoo through odin onto you're phone. My suggestion would be to return to stock then pick out a custom 2.2 rom. Several have voodoo as well as many improvements over what you are using

Ive looked through some....looks as if cognition is pretty popular....can i ask YOUR recommendation good sir? Theres tons of them and id like to stick with one close to what im running now...i love the lay out and the way i have it set up....just want to improve this lag....tried ryans oclf and it was absolute crap. All it did was manipulate quadrant...had absolutely 0 real world effect. Ive noticed that cognition doesnt have the froyo style google bar at the the top with the blue g. call me picky 8)

Are you rooted? If so run a titanium backup for all your user apps, no system data.
I have never used the ji6 leak so as to the look I do not know for certain
cognition is based on leaked captivate froyo, like what you are on. Many, like the rom I am on are on leaks our official releases from other devices.
Voodoo is vastly beter then ryan za oclf. From what you are saying flash stock then cognition. I believe that would be the closest.
If you do not like cognition there are many options out there. If you need help along the way pm me.
Google bar you are talking about is just a widget I believe. It can be there if you want it to

Many thanks and happy new year!
You could just pull the kernel out of the cognition rom and flash that. It will bee the zimage file in the updates folder. Easiest method is using sgs kernel flasher app that neldar created. Then you could keep what you have and enjoy voodoo lagfix as well until you find a rom that you want to try.
Sgs kernel flasher. It is an app in the market that the last poster mentioned. Looks like you can use it to change your kernel and get voodoo. I have not used it yet though
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
See THATS what im talkin about. You guys rock. Once I flash the kernel...which voodoo do i use? Not sure that lagfix only is availabe....have you seen a screen problem with voodoo? One guy said his screen had a red tint and im not really into that kinna stuff. lol
Voodoo uses ext4 file system so not really a choice other than on/off or choosing to use it for /system (yes by default). I have not seen a screen color change using kernels with the "color fix" and I don't think the kernel in cognition even utilizes it, though I could be wrong.

This is as far as i got last night... I downloaded cognition 2.3 b8 to my laptop. Opened the update folder and selected zimage file and moved it to the phone.....opened sgs kernel flasher and selected zimage....but couldnt bring my self to hit choose and reboot....am i doing this the right way? do i need to back up? i dont mind reinstalling apps and my contacts are synced with google...i just wanted to make sure im doing this properly. Thanks again
Use app to backup your current kernel. You should be fine

If you want to make a donation, design gears created cog, and the kernel. And I think neldar created the kernel swapping app

one last question. if hell freezes over and we DO get an official 2.2 pushed to our phones.....the method to disable voodoo is the same for us leaked 2.2 folk correct? making a folder that says disable lagfix ?
If the kernel does not have disable built into recovery, yes disable lagfix folder in voodoo folder on sd card will disable it. Also, if you use Odin to get back to stock it will wipe out the ext4 file system.

Great. I prefer the odin anyway, less chance of destroying something out of stupidity. Cool thanks

This should have gone in the Mosaic IV Q&A section. And to answer your question...Typically when installing themes you want to make sure the theme was made using the same firmware version that you are running. Such as a JVH theme should be applied to a JVH rom. Also you could have asked in the theme thread how to install the theme, but I checked it out for you. It's a CWM file. Just flash it in recovery, but make sure you make a back-up in case something gets messed up.
I did verify that it was a jvh rom. but i did not know how different the captivate & I9000 are. just wanted to make sure.
When you make sure i back up, what do you mean excatly? back up theme, if so how? or do you mean back up rom, kernel?
thanks for replying!

Just make sure you have a theme that you know for a fact will work with Mosaic IV. That way if something does mess up you can just boot into recovery and flash that theme instead of re-flashing the entire rom

I wouldn't mind trying out some of the jvp themes on symply rom.

I tried a couple themes from over in the i9000 forum .. You got that because those themes are not 100% compatible with our roms. The Cappy devs tweak stuff in the framework a little differently because of hardware differences etc and that causes mismatches, especially with themed apps like contacts. I had the worst case of that ever when I flashed a theme over mosaic 3 and my dialer would give me that message after every number i typed in. crazy things can happen Its best to just to wait it out until the Mosaic team port all their stuff, that way you wont have any problems at all. They have all the best themes anyways.

I mean you can try, I found a couple that worked with roms I was using. Always keep a backup theme though. Ive been put in bootloops before and had to re-flash entire roms at like 12% battery just to get myself out.
Ya thats what i kinda figured. that them is awesome and i would love to have it on my captivate.
thanks for the reply.

Try overcome rom you won't regret. I you dont like this rom then your free go back to the original. Its up to you my friend...

Video calls in talk are also a nice feature.

The easiest way to backup apps in titanium backup is to use one of the batch scripts. Just hit the menu button in the apps list and choose something like backup all user apps and data. Then you just have to save your Titanium backup folder to PC or removable SD if you intend to restock before flashing overcome, because internal SD gets wiped.
When you have installed Ocvercome, copy.TB folder back to internal SD and use TB batch script to restore all missing apps and data. I strongly advice you to buy the pro version because otherwise you have to confirm the restore of every single app. But it's worth the money for sure as after the first flash, you will get addicted to it anyway and TB will make life so much easier.

I love so much AOSP Roms for our Galaxy S I9000..I have done a nandroid back-up of Galnet MIUI v4 and Cyanogenmod 7..so if i want one of two roms i have to format system/data/cache/datadata from recovery and then restore the back-up..
My question is if is there a way to manage to do a dualboot between this two (or others) Roms..??
I think if it is possible it will be a great develoment for our Galaxy S..
Maybe i'm sayng a stupid thing but i want to read your opinions about this..
Cheers
i dont think its stupid at all, this would be a great feature! I have seen this in other android devices!
I've always wondered this too.
This was done on my previous device (HTC Hero) but it was a bit of a pain. The second Rom was installed on SDcard which was slow, and was FCing constantly, etc.
Whoever's interested can have a look at the HTC Hero forum section. It was ported by Kendon (he was part of VillainROM back then, don't know now).
Hope some developpers can do this ..
If it was possible on Htc Hero with less memory and less power it could be done also on Galaxy S I9000..
But Htc Hero is Htc and Galaxy S is Samsung so..i don't know..
I'm sure this week in dev I saw a trial program to do just this, running up to 4 roms! Will hunt down link if I can! Brb

Hi there,
Dual booting is kinda possible.
First one is to have very slims roms so you can install both on the nand and select one using a modded recovery.
Second one is to use redbend_ua script that will backup the current running rom, and then install another one and run it. The operation takes between 5 to 10 min depending on the rom and thats the only possibility to switch from 2.2.1 to 2.3 and vice-verca without having to flash bootloaders as redbend can flash bootloaders.
Also using redbend can be tricky as it can dump and write on partition but if it fail at flashing bootloaders you will be bricked.
Bricked phones can still be recovered using j-tag or 301k resitor.
Here is an attempt by z4ziggy:
http://z4ziggy.wordpress.com/2010/09/15/rom-flashing-using-redbend_ua/
The script in this page does not work but it can be improved.
You should check with him and some good dev like supercurio or codeworkx.
Also before applying any scripts, post it here and ask other people to see if it seems correct.
Happy flashing.
quick edit:
Be sure to dump the whole rom and restore the whole image even empty bml as it may have an importance.
We have to ask to developpers..
Not really, try to make a script that dump some bml, then try to restore them is it works then your good to go further.
Finally when you have a working script use tegrak kernel sources to include a "boot selection" as he did.
(on tegrak at phone boot you can enter recovery using the "home" button, change that to run the script so if you wait it boots normally, if you push "home" it dump the current rom and restore another one to boot on it)
Editing again:
If you use 2.2.1 bootloaders only, you can symlink an rom.img at boot and boot on it, it is easier but it is also pretty slow. (see nexus S rom port by supercurio)
Please delete thread mod

nice name.
While I love your enthusiasm, Stock+ is a good stock ROM. There's also several other releases of the OTA on here. If you were to develop another stock ROM for this community, it really wouldn't be a very big contribution.
A community built ROM is kind of a cool idea though.

yea but theres times when im looking for a pure stock rom for it and i can never find it. I love stock plus its great but i have 2 primary reasons for this: giving people a pure stock rom, and giving people a pure stock rom to use as a base. also i plan to do this for several other devices thatll be the point of the synyster stock rom series is to give different phones absolute stock if needed.

Might I suggest using the latest OTA? A nandroid backup isn't necessarily the best base for a rom.
If you do end up going the way of a nandroid backup, only use the system and boot images. The data and cache partitions will be created on first boot.
I would also suggest making a /data/app folder in your rom zip for bloat/market apps, so the user can uninstall them easier.

If you are using the kitchen to build your ROMs you are better off using the rom.zip file found in the RUU or one of the other bases already posted on here. There are like 5 or them already. I personally would never use any ROM built off a nandroid even my own. That said I have made my own stock ROMs before using the kitchen and found its best to just use wildstangs gingerbread base which has been cleaned up removing all the Sprint stuff out of it. Saves the time of going in and editing the build.prop file yourself.
To extract the rom.zip file start the RUU and once at the first main screen click Start>Run and type %temp% now, find the newest folder and in there will be a ZIP file called Rom.
