Has anyone noticed this bug with JPY?:
When you first boot and open Gallery it is super fast with all the thumbnails preloaded. After a couple of hours when you open it again it says "Loading images" and re caches the thumbnails again taking some time. This is especially evident in folders with a lot of images. It would be ok for an hour and then bam! Loading images slowly when i open it again.
Clicking on a folder opens it with the first four pics showing and then scrolling you have to wait a few seconds for the thumbnails to appear whereas when it initially booted all the thumbnails were already there. Its like it deletes the thumbnails after a while and has to generate them again which takes some time especially if you have a lot of folders and pics.
Is this normal, I don't remember this in my old firmware? Its the only thing that is bugging me. Maybe they force close Gallery after a certain time avoid the sensor draining bug that was there with the previous firmware?
Can you please check a see if yours is the same so i dont have to do a factory reset
you can download SGS tools from the markup and upgrade your gallary app.. that's what i did and i don't have any problems with the gallery anymore..
goodluck
The gallery app in SGS tool is not compatible with JPY because of the new feature of selecting wall paper for lock screen. I gave it a try but it would force close everytime i wanted to select a wallpaper.

Absolutely the same and even more.... I have my picasa account connected to the gallery too, after an hour mainly picassa the gallery crashes - black screen, but no force close. Actually this one, the battery (not 100% after disconnecting) and the contacts app not closing, made me go back to JPP.

The contacts bug can be solved by uninstalling the task manager's update.

I have Milestone running CM7 RC3 latest build and it was working fine till last night . I wanted to update my dock using Launcherpro so browsed to gallery to change the custom dock and after that I opened gallery again and to my notice all my gallery pictures ( around 1200) has one picture assigned to all the 1200 pics. Last night it was the Androidiani Logo which took place all over my galllery , then i formatted my complete SD card and loaded all the pics again . And again as i tried using LP to select custom dock , the same thing repeated but this time it assigned a Flixie wallpaper to all my pictures.
But the weirdest thing is that , If I open gallery using Cm7 file manager , i can browse to all my pics , but not with the default gallery , i even tried downloading and trying with Quickpic , but it says there is no picture in your sdcard, is it mounted or not ?
Can anyone here solve the issue please , its giving me night mares , as i cant keep formatting my sdcard and loosing my apps and files again and again.
I had replied in the CM7 thread but what the heck...
look for files named .nomedia
Or try this https://market.android.com/details?id=com.studiokuma.nomedia
I just installed it , but it has no effect . Still one pic assigned to all the other pics
I replied on your post o. The cm7 thread too. I gueass I'll repost it here.
Try clearing the gallery's thumbnail cach. It's In /sdcard/android/data/com.cooliris..something, I think. Reboot your phone, and wait until the phone finishes scanning your sdcard, ghen open the gallery. If you have a lot of pics, it's going to take a while to rebuild the thumbnails.

Best option is to ditch Gallery3d and get QuickPic from market.
I just formatted my sdcard and reapplied the CM7 mod . So lets see if the same thing happens again , then i ll comment back. Thanks for the comments guys
Hi all,
I have my brand new IS for a while. I had no problem with setting a custom ringtone or photos taken by cam. but a while ago (im not sure when or why) it starts to behave weird. the device doesn't see my music files anymore, i can not choose any custom ringtone. After running Music app, it says "No Music Found" but i can see the file is there( via Astro File Manager etc.).
Same thing happened for photos, too. after taking photos, i can't see them with Gallery app but i see they are in sdcard/DCIM/100MEDIA as usual?
Hope i could tell the problem, any help appreciated..
The apps seem very very bad at refreshing new data off the sdcard. I find unmounting/mounting does the trick.

Thanks for the repy but it doesn't work. Neither Unmount > Mount nor Disable Fast Boot>Unmount>Reboot . I can not see previous photos taken with phone even by the quick button at camera screen.
I can change ringtone by an external app like "Android Movie or Zedge etc." But after restarting the device, it selects default one that shipped with the phone and ignore my custom ringtones.. really weird..
Is a common problem in stock. I thought that making remounting the SD card and afterwards make a photo and than go to gallery should start the reindex. Than start your HTC music app. Should have everything in it by then.
Note: reindexing can take a little while.

Not working..
What i did: Unmount > Mount SDCard. Take a photo > Go to gallery. After a quick refreshing process, there's only latest photo. After a reboot, latest photo is gone, too. Yet no tracks in Music
Just a wild guess, maybe your sdcard is corrupted? FAT32 is very easy to get into such problem. Perhaps you can do a scandisk from a PC.

Hi... I recently discovered that the image count in my phone gallery just got doubled. When I open any folder in the Gallery (except Camera folder), I see every image saved by me has a corresponding image (or icon) displayed in that folder. All folders in the phone Gallery (except Camera folder) have been affected. I have attached a screenshot of the contents of the Wallpapers folder. There is a pattern which follows; every saved image in the Gallery has got a corresponding blank image / icon. When I open the blank image / icon, the screen turns blank. I have to use the Home / Back key to move out. This has also affected the Videos folder. When I try to play the blank video / icon, it say "Cannot play this file". I ran the Antivirus (AVG Mobilation) scan on my phone, but it shows that my phone is clean. I connected my phone to the Laptop, and ran a manual scan (Kaspersky) on each of the Gallery folders, but still no defects were found. Surprisingly, when I accessed the Gallery folders from my laptop, all the blank Images / Icons were gone. The laptop was only showing images saved on my phone (no blank images / icons). The last application I installed was Foosball 3D (AZanf). I have uninstalled that app now.
However, I am able to delete those items manually. I don't know the cause of this problem. Is it a virus ? I have just explored my Gallery and come across this issue. Other areas of the phone might also have been affected, and I may be unaware of that. Please identify the glitch and help me sort out this issue.
Thanks a lot..
I had something like this happen to me, but I just hid those folders in Quickpic. Not sure what caused that.

I did not mess arnd with any app or files aftr I found these files present in my Gallery. However, this morning when I checked the Gallery again, I found that the blank files/icon have doubled; now there are 2 blank files/icons present for evry image in my Gallery. I had cleared out 1 folder yesterday, but that folder now contains 1 set of the blank files.

Hey Braxos.. Many thanks for ur solution...
I did as u explained, cleared data frm the Settings... But the files are still there... They have not been deleted...
Also, I am not sure if these blank files are duplicates of the images. I understand tht they are non-existent (as they are not being reported by the antivirus, nor are they visible in the laptop).

Download SD Maid from Play store.
Go to system cleaner in SD Maid and delete all of your thumbnail files.
Then go to Media Storage in Settings Applications All and clear data and cache.
Reboot and all should be okay.
It will take time after the reboot for Media Storage to re-index your media files so be patient.

I would be very careful using that app. I had my sd card almost corrupted after using that app and clearing all the thumbnails.

Don't know if you noticed that it only happened to the images on external sdcard.
My way is to delete those corrupted images manually in Gallery.
I also find out that it usually happens after I flashed something in cwm or force close gallery application during media scanning.
Search before posting mate. It's been already answered somewhere here.
Look for media storage app.. Clear its data.. Reboot the device and leave it for 5 to 10 minutes to rebuild everything up from scratch again. And u will be fine. I've had it and fixed it many times by doing this.

I've never had a problem with it.
It might depend on your read ahead and cache settings in your kernel for SD card if you're having problems.
You might also want to check how aggressive the I/O is on your kernel.
If you have problems with AS corruption it is extremely unlikely to be an app, more often than not it is your kernel.

I got the solution for my prob. Goto Settings --> Application --> All --> Media Storage --> Clear Data. Rebooted the device, waited for 10-15 mins for the cleared data (images + songs) to get reloaded. All the blank icons were cleared from the Gallery + Media Playlist. I did not use SD Maid.
However, I am very curious to know, whatever affected my Images + Songs, did it also affect any other data, as in some other files in the phone. I only know abt the Image & Songs coz I use them very frequently. But it might have happened that blank files were also created for other data as well, which are located deep inside some folder.
Also, do you have any idea what cld have created these blank files ? A crappy app or something ?
Superb this helped

That just killed all my Music, images and videos in the gallary and music player. The final fix is to delete all the .nomedia files from the SD card. That fixes that problem.

The best place to start is wth a bit more info. We wont know how to help until we know how you got here.
What ROM are you running?
What base firmware?
Has the phone always done this or only started recently?
Are there any pop-up error messages when gallery closes?
Have you tried clearing the cache ad data from the gallery app?
Can a third party gallery app (like QuickPic) access your photos?
Have you tried backing up your SD card contents and re-formatting the SD card?
Running stock with latest int firmware
It started last week, never had such issue before
No FCs or any other popups
clearing the cache ad data from the gallery app did not work
a third party gallery app works fine
I think the only other thing to try is to wipe the device clean & start over
I appreciate your support
