Make sure you are completely wiping your phone before installing new ROMs and switching between them like that. This could be one reason you are getting bootloops.

Wipeing like there's no tommrrow still no go for the bx theme finally got the all black theme working thanks man out of all the members of xda u were the only reply to my quest for help and I posted 3 different threads on this I was sure I would find more help but guess not but thanks for taking the time to reply I appreciate it

Well my guess is that since CM6 is still an ever-changing ROM with new updates and versions coming out basically every day, that's why some of these themes you're flashing aren't working. It's possible that the theme someone designed works on a very particular build of CM6 (that was only available for maybe like a day or so), then as soon as something is updated or changed in a new ROM release, that theme might not be compatible anymore with the new stuff. I don't use CM6 so I can't say that for sure, but I bet it's part of the reason. A lot of themes are only compatible with very specific frameworks and apk's, so if any of that has been changed or updated, the theme no longer works properly, sometimes causing bootloops.

It says in your sig that your using darch recovery, and if you're not using the engineering spl, then that means you have no way of formatting /system, which when you're flashing back and forth between roms on the partition mod, you really need to do. So either change to the spl so you can use fastboot to erase system or go to clockwork recovery and do it there. If you change your recovery, you will have to redo the whole partition hack again from the beginning.

Unable to flash Anything else

i have done quite a few searches on this and yet have found nothing so i hope i dont get reamed for posting this.
if someone has a link for this answer id be very thankful.
if not then PLEASE SOMEONE EXPLAIN!!!!!!!
at the moment i am running drizzy hero rom. to do the update i did use the one touch root. on a second phone i did it manually. on both i added the hard spl and am running the RA v 1.2.1 recovery. I liked this ROM and wanted to see what bugs it had. after a few days i wanted to switch and try a different ROM I have dl most of the ROMs available and already have them on my sdcard once i did this no ROM would load except for Drizzy(new Vision v2.8). after trying a few things and accomplishing nothing i decided to redo EVERYTHING. unrooted my phone rooted again applied recovery made sure radio was to date and spl. and still nothing i cant even run the original jf1.5 that i was using before deciding to port. this issue is occuring on both phones. 1st phone was again done with one step root and the 2nd phone was done completly manually. I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to try these other roms SO PLEASE SOMEONE HELP. if you need more information on what i did with these phones ill gladly tell you step by step on what i did.
sorry for that.
I was using my G1 and also had a friends. On my g1 i used the one step root. I used the Instructions from The Unlocker.com. It uses flashrec.apk and also Amon Ra's recovery image. After that i went over to the How to Load a Custom ROM. same site. It asks you to check the Radio and the Spl. The radio is 2.22.19.26I and the spl used was the HARDSPL 1.33.2005.
Once i finished that i went and formated the sdcard to Fat32+Ext2+LinuxSwap also converted Ext2 to Ext3.Then I did-Move Dalvik Cache to SD. last 3 steps to speed up hero. after all of that I loaded 4 ROMS CyanogenMod ROM, jACXHeroSkiv Hero ROM v1.8, Drizzy’s NewVision TouchFlo ROM, and JF v1.5 Cupcake ROM. I have only flashed Drizzy's until last night.
I was unable to flash any other one and when i flashed back to drizzy I had problems loading it back but eventually loaded fully the issue was running the startup wizard it kept crashing. after a reboot it was ok.
Give us step by step on what you did and USE PARAGRAPHS
that whole thing looked like mumbo jumbo to me
put new lines where they belong to help separate out the steps you took
FIXED! thanks!

did you do a data wipe? you need to wipe going from hero to cupcake/donut
When I first did all of that I did. Am I supposed to data wipe everytime I switch the Rom?

when your using hero rom's, yes.
if your upgrading cupcake roms (ie cyan 4.0.4 to 4.1.9.2 ), no
If its not working, WIPE
you cant go from hero to cupcake without wiping and not expect a lot of problems. they cause too many issues.
hero roms use the data partition differently
also remember to wipe /system/sd/ to clear all of that out. pull your /system/sd/ to your computer first though
thanks you guys it helped alot

help!!!! i searched for hours and cant fix it

my phone is stuck in a reload state i put jac xreroskiv rom or what ever its called and its stuck it starts up but keep saying hero over and over any ideas. help please thanks in advance i had already installed hero and such was just trying this new rom. i tried other roms too but no dice. even the original hero rom i originally put on here.
You should probably make a post for help in the rom's forum that you're having problems with.
Also, it would help if you told them which G1 device you had, what radio/spl and stuff like that.
But with really no info from your post the only things I can think of is that you need to do wipe or reformat your sd card.
Most likely you just have to repart your ext partition. But more info would help.
i have radio-2.22.19.261 hboot-1.33.2005 dream32b i was able to restore it but now i cant install the rom . i tried again and got the same problem so i probably got the wrong radio for the rom i want which is this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534479\
You have the right radio. Really there is only one radio. There's the 26I that we use and the old radio that is not used anymore. Do not flash the hero radio or you will brick your phone. Did you repartion your sd card so it's fresh?
yeah i used the home and end button and did the partition using the boot loader thingy. i ended the loop but now its like i bough the phone new with root make sense?

Not the least amount of sense to me, but if your phone is working ,then good. You had a bootloop which is usually solved by wiping your ext3 and phone.
maybe i have the wrong build? i had some ra build cant remember what it was called i reflashed to cyanogen 1.4 gonna try it when i get home

all you had to do was wipe ext3, you should do this when changing any hero build unless otherwise noted. be sure you are wiping the intern. memory as well ALT+W in ReCon. also, repair ext filesystems and flash again, hero roms take a while to boot so make sure you are patient.
okay ill try when i get off work. i have 1.33.2005
2.22.19.26I my build is cyanogen + jf 1.4 can i install the rom i discussed earlier using the method u talked about? it was slow when i installed it earlier anyway of making it faster kept loading.
i fixed it dont know how lol but i did. i think i just had the wrong build. close thread plz. thanks for all the help people.

I kept seeing you say you were trying to flash the cyanogen build 1.4. That is not a rom but the recovery. But glad its working now. Put [SOLVED] on your thread title.

Guide updated above

The Guide "STOCK-2-CYANOGEN" has been updated to include 4.1.999.
Post 2 also has instructions to upgrade from CM4.1.11.1 or earlier to CM4.1.999 as well as upgrading from CM4.1.99 to CM4.1.999.
If you have root already and CM Recovery 1.4 then you can use post 2. If you have not rooted your phone then use post 1.
Fingerlickin stays busy.
hey supreme, I noticed you spending alot of time in the dream section. Any common problems we can add to the guide?
I just been seein more about 1.6 stuff of people gettin stuck, I think some people just loaded the wrong htc recovery. Also maybe add the clear dalvik-cache commands. Also maybe add how to back up the ext partition since I've been seeing more and more of that. I know there's more I've been seein alot of lately but I need to drink another cup of coffee and get my thoughts together. I'll get my thoughts together and let you know.
A lot of people actually booted off of the HTC recovery, which ended up replacing their recovery image with the stock one. Put emphasis on not booting before applying the Cyanogen update.
Also, please make note that the update will not work properly with AmonRa's recovery image. It gives the status 7 error when flashing the HTC Recovery ROM. Using Cyanogen's 1.4 recovery solves the problem (they can flash back to AmonRa after they are done)

Only CM works on G1 and MT3G

Alright well first off I've looked all over XDA for an answer if theres is one out there a Mod can remove this post. I'm not new to this at all I have been flashing roms since the Dream was released, just the other day i was thinking about trying out a new from King's new Legend coming from CM 4.2.15.1 as usual i wiped everything reformatted my SD partitions and installed the Legend rom, now for some reason i cannot get past the G1 screen on that or any other rom there is out EXCEPT CM 4.2.15 I attempted the same thing on my 32B MT and get the same problem it will not go past the MT green screen has anyone had this issue or would anyone be able to tell me whats going on I've tried everything i could think of and nothing works. Thanks for any help people!
theres a lot of other roms that require a different SPL than CM does. make sure you have the correct one installed. also, make sure to wipe before flashing.
I have kept that in mind and yes I have wiped before every flash I once again just now tried the CanNNoN202 rom correct SPL and all also running the latest radio still no go on either the MT3G or G1
wut does it say in bootloader screen ?

[Q] HTC Hero looping on the boot screen. How can this be fixed?

Phone: HTC Hero, CDMA
Carrier: Sprint
While others have reported of this problem, the solutions that worked for them dont work for me. Im really stuck.
I know, its an old and slow phone, but I was hoping to go to CM7 to get better performance out of it. Well, I must have done something wrong in the process. My current android version is 2.1-update1. I used z4root to root it and used the clockworkmod ROM manager to install a recent nightly after backing-up my current ROM. Installing the nightly failed, something to do with the zip, but my phone had already been wiped and rebooted in default factory mode. I tried doing the install again with the same nightly and a more recent one, but it kept failing due to a problem with the zips. After one of the reboots, the OS just wouldnt load; seems to be looping on the 'HTC quietly brilliant' screen. I am able to boot in recovery mode, but cant figure out how to get past this looping issue.
Ive tried booting using the back-up I created with no luck. Ive even tried going through the RUU process (cant post a link cause Im a new member here), which results in an error message stating that theres an incorrect bootloader.
I did figure out that I was trying to install CM7 using the wrong zip; had the GSM version. Ive tried installing CM7 with the correct zip, but, after reboot, it loops at the animation with the android on the skateboard and the blue arrow around it. Not sure what it means that the two different OSs loop at, what looks like, the same points.
I probably did something wrong, but Im hoping somebody with a better understanding of all thats involved can let me know if there is any way for me to fix this. Thanks in advance for the help.

I *think* your error, in general, was using a bunch of "easy" one click methods and not properly learning (READING) about what the proper steps are. Here is my advice (assuming you are still rooted) -
1.boot into recovery (power off phone, hold home button, press power)
2.wipe data/factory reset
3.mounts/storage - wipe system and boot
4.restore nand backup OR flash ROM/gapps (from the same thread)
5.reboot, and be patient, bootup could take 5-10 minutes.
Good Luck.
You are the man (or woman)! I believe the formatting of system and boot is what did it. Really appreciate the help.

It is important, as Il Duce said, that you definitely do a good amount of reading when you want to get involved in rooting your phone. You are opening yourself up to some great innovation and fun, but you can also cause yourself a lot of headaches.
Recovery is your friend. If you can get into that, at least you know things are ok. I like to wipe (or format) system, data, cache, and boot 3x just to make sure that clockwork recovery cleaned everything and there are no dingleberries from the last rom I was using.
Flashing the correct type of rom is even more important. Don't flash a gsm rom to a cdma phone and NEVER flash a gsm radio to a cdma phone. Once you delve into the reading aspect of XDA, you will see that is the sure way to brick your phone.
Some roms take longer than others to boot up. Let it run its course. Sometimes it will reboot right after installing. At some point, you might want to make a nandroid of the new rom you are running and go back to your stock (2.1 update 1) and update your PRL, baseband, etc. (if you haven't done an update in a while).
Have fun, that is the most important part and we seem to have a lot of it here in HeroC XDA land.
You know, I put in a fair share of reading about how to update the ROM on my phone and I was under the impression that it would be fairly simple. I figured that since this has been done for quite a while and all these tools have been developed, I wouldnt need to know what happens on the back end during a root or ROM install.
But I did get myself into a bind that I wasnt able to figure out on my own. And with the help of this forum, I was able to get past my problem. Im glad to say I now have a phone that is functioning very smoothly with CM7 and the apps I need.
Next step for me is figuring out how to save my apps to the SD card so that I can install from there if/when I update my ROM in the future.
Thanks again for the help!
Get titanium backup FTW.
BANG! from my shooter...
