Switching lines problem - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just bought an EVO and tried switching the hero to another phone # and it wont program. I am running the new CM6 ROM do I need to go back to another ROM so the programming will work?

This is just an educated guess but I saw no one else has responded yet....yes you probably should switch to a Sense-based stock ROM to reprogram, because CM6 doesn't have any of the Sprint-based programming/comm tools, like the EPST dialer menu stuff, and updating Profile and PRL, etc. Those tools might be necessary in communicating with Sprint towers when trying to provision a phone to work with a new number and service. Just my guess though.

Your guess is correct.
Make a nand, flash a sense rom or restore one if you have it. I had to do this when I gave my Hero to my sister, it had DD2.7 on it..

NAND Boot with ESN Swap

I've been having a problem where I would swap ESN's on Sprint for another phone and then go back to the Android Vogue and notice data would not be working. In WM there is an Update Profile icon that can reinitiate this. Is there something similar for Android? If not, how do you guys suggest getting data working for someone who swaps phones back and forth often?
Run Android from SD. AFAIK, we don't even have access to the operator settings like in WM.
That's what I thought. I still prefer to run it straight from NAND though I take you guys just flash to WM and then back to Android in order to get data working?
I run from SD, but that is correct. Though I don't think most people swap phones like that. Do becareful with doing too many flashes though as some people attribute it to killing their phones.
Ok so you repaired the Vogue's esn? The problem is that your data setting and passwords are different on your Vogue. I don't know if your android rom has epst. Go to the phone and dial ##778#, if it works you can see your settings. Just try to match them as close as possible to your currently working phone. To edit these values you will need your SPC (msl codes). Typically for phone you need to enter your MDN #(your phone #) and your MSID #. For data you need to match up your MIP settings, MIP Default profile and MIP Custumer Profile 1. Just step through all the settings and match them up with the original phone. Since both are Sprint phones their should not be that many differences.
In the past I have just done a reinstall of an Offical WinMo image from Sprint then get data and phone working. For data go into Settings, phone, internet settings, and run that (I can't remember what the function is called). That should provision your data. Once you are up and running then you should be able to flash back to Android and be fine. In provisioning this way, there may be an issue where it changes your passwords and your original phone may not have data. I have had it happen where both phones would work and sometimes the data on the original does not work. You can dial ##778# in both and compare to make sure they are the same.
If you go into the WinMo section and search you can find information about getting data to work. If you don't find it there try going into the Mogul WinMo section and search. Getting data to work on a WinMo was very common issue when flashing different Roms and is virtually the same process for all WinMo phones. On the WinMo side it's been pretty thoroughly covered on XDA and PPCGEEKS.
You could try a search at mobile-files.us and mobile-files.com. They tend to cover a lot of what you are doing here.
EPST is a executable file that comes with the WinMo roms and is usually in the Windows folder.
I wonder if someone could actually re-code a new version that would work on Droid/Linux?
How do the new Droid phones that come from Sprint get programmed?
I haven't tried this yet, but I wonder if you're just switching back and forth if you really need the provisioning. I've switched back with the flash back to WinMo method, but noticed that the MSID and other data is already still in there. It does go through a data provisioning process of some sort, so maybe it is necessary. But still, if it's already been activated on the phone number previously, it seems like there's some slim chance it might not be necessary to flash back to WM to do a simple ESN swap back.
Has anyone tried it? I'll probably try out my TP2 on Android for a few days again soon now that sound is working, but then get frustrated by the parts that still don't work well and flash back to the Vogue again. So maybe I'll try it then if nobody else has.
You need to switch back to windows mobile in order to activate, even if the phone has the mdn and msid programed in it still has a provisioning code it sends out so you can activate it but you just won't have data

[Q] Hero on Verizon

I am working on getting a hero working on Verizon. I currently have created a custom rom using FroShedYo.V6 and update-cm-6.1.0-RC1-Heroc-signed. This is running but I am not getting a data connection. The mobile network state is disconnected and I am always roaming. I was able to do a *228 and both options said they worked.
I replaced the wifi driver with the one from the hero and I have wifi working now. Does anyone know if there is a 3g driver or the like for the hero that I need to replace? Or is this a MMS programming issue?
So close yet so far away.
You gotta change the apn settings and and eri.xml is your rom sense based or what?
The roms I am working with are CM6 based without sense. I think. I am new to android hacking. The eris one is the FroShedYo.V6 and there is no /data directory in either one. I am going to try a different rom with the /data directory already in it.
try hexscrews rom I believe it has apn settings in it for all carriers
I'm wondering if this is a PRI issue. I see there used to be a leaked rom that had an Eris PRI from verizon that was installed. Is there anyway to get this somehow installed on my hero on purpose now?
I now have the hero on the verizon network with talk and text. I used a base eris rom and used the drivers for wifi, screen rotation, bluetooth from a hero rom with the same kernel. The one thing that I do not have working is the 3G data connection. I have looked at several things trying to get this to work but have had no success.
I am getting data connection errors in the radio that I can see in logcat. The phone also appears to always be roaming.
Anyone have any suggestions on how I can get these things fixed?
Well if the phone is always roaming and its set for Verizon that means its picking up sprint, I think the biggest issue your going to run into is that It needs to be provisioned before data will work and you can't do that in cm6 I would try a sense Rom first then try cm6

Guys, I have a GUIDE that is about switching from Sprint-> PagePlus (pageplus would be the better option here) just search for my threads by me. I have everything working using it with CM6. In the guide even have the ERI/APN settings for PagePlus
I have flashed the southpaw odex 2.1 rom and copied over the apn and did the qpst programming. Still stuck on roaming and no data. My phone information currently:
baseband:2.32.40.11.09
PRI:2.20_003
PRL:51893
I have tried the PRL's in the sprinttopageplus guide and still roaming and no data.
I can still make calls and text.
I tried pst programming earlier to try to match settings in another verizon android based phone. I may have messed up the pst programming and got stupid and did not back up. Anyone have a qcn file for the hero working on verizon/pageplus?
bowb, make sure that setting applied match those that I outlined, also in the package thre should be two prl files, one will be used adn it will get data and it will force it to 1x, after teh 1x (it reset the a-key) then use the other prl so that it enables EVDO, if used in reverse order=no data
If there is only 1 prl, then:
http://www.fortuneinyou.com/buddy/pageplus.prl
then
http://www.fortuneinyou.com/buddy/pageplus1.prl
The first prl gets me on the Verizon network without roaming and no data. The second prl I have no data and roaming. I'm getting closer. Thanks for the help.

it will always say roaming unless you use a CyanogenMOD/AOSP ROM, I always get that unless Im on those. I know it's a PITA. ensure that in your mobile network settings that data is enabled while roaming for a 2.1 rom.
TpyoKnig what PRI version are you using? Over on the Eris section when the 2.2 Leaked rom was installed it looks like a Verizon PRI was installed and there were issues with data. I think I might have the opposite. I think I may have a Sprint PRI and it is not working on Verizon. When I logcat the radio it does not compare to a phone working on Verizon and it even has 'Sprint' in the output. Or I may be completely wrong.
So I have change my PRI and it still does not work. I noticed I am getting a
Failed setting numeric '31172' to the current operator
This is a sprint operator code? I have tried changing this in build.props to 31004 which is verizon for the gsm.operator.numeric etc... but it keeps coming back.
Does this lead me down the rabbit hole?

sorry heres my info from bootloader:
Radio: 2.32.40.11.09
as far as the PRI if you arent referring to the radio, then I have the stock one that came with 2.1
I'm going to do a hard reset. Flash the Sprint 2.1 RUU to get my PRI back and try this radio. I see that it is a verizon radio so maybe that will get me some results. If this doesn't do it I probably have messed up my system programming.

Ok, in the guide that I made, it has the appropriate settings that need to be applied in EPST (##3282#) for data with PagePlus (verizon)
The phone I am trying to move from is a samsung reality. Is it possible it has a different way of making the data connection?
try a droid eris rom. It's pretty much the same thing as the hero but for verizon. Me if I was doing this I would ruu back to the 2.27.651.51.5 and set everything up in ##data. Use the verizon prl and then flash the radio. Then go from there.

same for both, buy why did you post 'hero on verizon' if here you explicitly state its a samsung..

no data or MMS

A few months back i did my first Android experimenting with my girlfriends Sprint HTC Hero she wasn't using anymore, because we switch her over to a Palm Pre. So I took the Hero she wasnt using anymore, rooted it and updated it to CM6.0.0. Of course it didn't have service and everything I was doing was over wifi at that time. Well, her Palm Pre jacked up on her so we had to pull the Hero out and put her back on it. We got her switched over to the Hero on the website. She can make and receive calls fine and receive and send text fine, but cant send or receive MMS or transfer any data. Browser just says no connection. I saw on another thread, something about updating profile and/or prl under settings but I dont have that and i guess because i dont have Sense. Is there something i can do or am i going to have to install a new ROM? if i have to do another ROM, what do i need to install? i have done alot of stuff with Windows Mobile and GSM over the years, but i'm not too savvy on Android and CDMA.

Try flashing a different rom. If you have the correct data plan which I'm guessing you do and a different rom doesn't help ruu that ***** it'll return all your settings and then update prl and then profile.

Area Code Px w/CM7

I rooted and installed CM7 from stock for my Sprint Hero. When ever i make a local call, the phone company has a recording that says I need to enter the area code. Never had to do this before. Any ideas???
Also, will sprint sending me an OTA or reprovision the phone cause any problems with CM7???
FYI - The phone does not say I am roaming.
Thanks!!!

Never heard that one. I am pretty sure that the actual phone/dialer itself (aka radio) is entirely unaffected by a ROM. My guess is something went weird in how you rooted. Could you provide more details, maybe someone will recognize a step you missed or something. Also, if you are on CM7 sprint will not be able to send you anything, since the access they need/you need to do stuff like that is integrated with the sense framework. I would say on that front, either RUU or nand back to stock if you have that and work with sprint to resolve the issue, then reroot/flash etc.
If you dial the area code does it work? I will say that ever since I have had a cell phone I've been 10 digit dialing. I'm sure a lot of things could cause that but I'm not aware of anything rom specific that would cause it. You could try flashing the rom over itself but I would think this would be more than likely something specific to your area. Someone else may have more specific answers regarding reprovisioning but anything sprint could do to your phone specifically remotely would have mostly gone away with rooting and installing a custom rom. I could be wrong on that part but they certainly lose some ability to update a phone or we'd all still be stock.

No Data?

Okay so basically I have two phones, The Htc Hero and the Samsung Transform. Long story short my transform broke so I activated the hero via the sprint website. The hero is running Evervolv. I get service just fine, but I cannot connect to the net. Ive had this problem with my transform and fixed it by going into settings, about phone, system updates, and updated my profile and prl. However the hero doesnt have this option, any ideas guys? Thanks.
u need to be on a sense rom to do it
Ah okay, so if I flash a sense rom and set it up, then I can flash back to another rom?
yes just make a nand of your current rom and your fine.
i suggest using this rom its pretty much stock.
when the rom is installed go to settings about phone software update and update prl then when thats done update your profile.

Awesome thank you.
also when u activate a phone it can take up to 48hrs for it to be fully functional that could be the reason u dont have data.
when radio shack first activate mine it was a Friday and i could make calls and send texts, but i couldn't receive them until the following monday.
