Usually charge my Tilt over night. But just to check it I unplug it before going to bed.
Started at 100% when I went to bed, I got up 7 hours later and it was at 56%. That is far worse than I expected!
Is this normal? Or shouls I restore it back the the original ROM and exchange it while I still have time.
What did you have turned on? If you leave Bluetooth and WiFi on overnight it'll definitely kill your battery... you should disable them in the commanger when not in use to save battery life.
Also, if you have the mail client set to check for new mail often (every 5 minutes or so) it'll keep firing up a data connection which uses the battery.
Thats certainly not normal. check if you dont have Wifi or an 3G connection at the moment.
I did have bluetooth on. I am on a 3G network, but not connected to a data session.
I had this problem with one of the 'cooked' roms. For the 5 weeks I had my phone, I never had a problem with it draining overnight. I flashed one of the roms, and two nights in a row I woke up to a dead battery. I reflashed the ATT rom, and haven't had a problem since.
Overnight battery drain
I have a tilt, std AT&T rom, with some modifications and updates, found here. I have pop email service running every 15 minutes, and commontime Mnotes push email to my lotus notes files and email, bluetooth on at all times. My overnight battery drain, 8-9 hours will be from 100% down to 89-92%, so I would say there is something else wrong. If you have "battery status" (found in this wiki) on your today screen, it will show you battery drain. You should also have the tweak settings to turn off your 3G connection after 1 minute after completion of data transfer. If this does not do it, go back to the OEM rom and then add your updates.
It should not drain the battery like you are seeing, my reference as a guide and I push my phone pretty hard for data and email.
Good luck,

Totally agree.
there is also the posibility that you have a defective battery that's not holding charge. If you check with your phone supplier and tell them nicely that's the problem they will most likely give you a replacement (as they will send the old one back in the packaging as a return).
OK, I'll flash back to my original AT&T ROM and see what that does. I have another batter (1650 from ebay, a cheap one) but don't expect to have it for another 4 or 5 days.
it's a shame because I really like this Dutty's ATT Beta 2.
Anyone have a good full featured ROM their using that I can try if I find the AT&T original give me better battery life?
My overnight drain with bluetooth On and band set on EDGE is 4%. The only times I've found it low to dead overnite is when I've left WiFi On, not sure why as it should standby when off, but at least twice it's sapped the battery dead.

I wonder if when you get below a certain crital % battery level that cellphone or any Tx/Rx connection drops off? I have noticed once before (and never associated it with anything) that when I was near an audio device (my PC speakers are best for this) and my battery was low that it was 'polling' the cell network like crazy as if losing connection! This may also work for WiFi (which in sleep periodically checks if the network is still in range) and BT?
Something to investigate!
Overnight, around 7hrs, from a 100% battery with BT always on Wi-Fi off, 3G always connected and it's setup to check my email every 2hrs, I only loose 1 to 2% battery life and my alarm going off for about 5mins , this is with the Orange HTC Tytn 2 using their original ROM
Wel, I flashed the latest Dutty's ATT touch ROM. My battery did improve.
From 100% to 78% over night with bluetooth on. Not great but much better.
I'll see how it goes tonight.
My overnight drain is typically 5-7%.
This is with e-mail poll every 5 minutes, so data connection is on.
Bluetooth & WiFi off.
OK, checked it again this morning and this time at was at 98%!
I couldnet figure out why the day before it was at 78% and today at 97%. everything was the same (or so I thought).
I noticed later that the Radio pluging (to toggle BT, WiFi, and phone radios on/off) was not on my today screen. It was set to, but apparently didn't load. Maybe that is somehow the issue. I'll keep it off all day and see it I don't have more juice at the end of the day than usual. I'll turn it on again for tomorrow and see my my battery drains quickly again.
I think the battery capabilities may have a lot to do with this.
Anyone here use Li-Polimer for anything else? I do, minature 3D (no pun intended!) RC helicopters, and the individual packs NEVER produce the same charge/discharge cycle..
Not one is the same from purchase.
Some packs can devolve a low current without much adverse effect, others can charge with a greater sustain. If you present a charge cycle whilst discharge is taking place, it can effect performance.
Lots to look at here guys including device settings but when you put all these aspects together, as in this thread, there is something to work on...
I could've swore that when you turn your phone on stand-by (press the power button on the side to turn the screen off) that it also disables wifi until you wake the phone up.
I was having this same issue. Turned off Bluetooth and Wi-fi at night, hit the power button on the phone and now it only drains about 3% in the 6 hours I sleep.

It does unless the ROM you install changes the registry keys or you do yourself.
ah, okay.. well as long as the battery life lasts longer than the tytns then i'm happy
don't forget the default design of WM !!! ( X does not closes running programs ) ... get a task manager and make sure X DOES fully exit
I had to add that in to cover all the bases
I was playing around with the Wi-Fi sleep policy settings and I am little bit confused how it really works.
The default setting is something like: "turn off wifi when screen is turned off".
So as I understand it it should disable wifi when the screen is turned off.
However when I checked my device list at my router it seemed that my n1 was still connected through wif, even after the screen was turned off. Only after 5-10 minutes wifi was really disconnected (when I turned on the screen again the wifi symbol in the top bar appeared after some seconds). I read somewhere that there is a difference between disabling wifi and disconnecting wifi?
BTW. the wifi sleep policy is supposed to save battery because it is said that 3G in idle mode requires less power than a wifi connection, but I read that with the nexus one the opposite is true. so what's the truth?
It's normal for the wifi to disconnect after several minutes of inactivity once the screen turns off. As for your very last question, I don't know... but I imagine that idle 3G is less power intensive than active wifi, otherwise it wouldn't be the default option...
Could be stupid to ask this but have been wondering since i got it
So far 2 charges down and battery life is not too great. I have emails set to manually receive.
How do we know that we are connected to internet. Like in Win 6.5 it would dial and then the icon would change. what happens here?
I go to people ad when i go to FB the dots on top of screen come showing its retreivving something. But what after that?
when i come on home screen how do i know internet is d/c?
- On Wi-Fi, you'll see a Wi-Fi indicator on at the top of the screen.
- On network data, you'll see 3G or E (or whichever data protocol is active) at the top of the screen.
In both cases, if you don't see any of the status indicators at the top of the screen, just tap the very top and all your status indicators will appear. If you still don't see any indicator, then you aren't connect to any Internet sources.
The little loading dots that appear to fly across the screen can either mean data is being loaded, or some type of loading is occurring. Its not entirely clear which at times.
Just to clarify.
The "E" is always there on my indicator. Does it mean that its avialable or it means that i am connected to the service and something in the baground is eating/using the data?
Yes, if the E is there, it means there's a connection -- it doesn't necessarily mean that anything's using the data. You can completely turn data off via settings->mobile network. If you're having battery issues, you could try that while you're not using it for data.
Thanx ...I missed that setting..
yes that E has gone and now i will see the battery longitivity as a test.
Thank You
Test result : )
The battery lie with out the E (i.e connected to the data service) was super.
I am in 24hrs and the battery shows a little more than half on the indicator.
Usage: couple of pictures, maybe 30 min talk time, exchange of emails on wifi, and some music maybe 20 min

Wow, that's fantastic news. So you're just accessing the internet when in WiFi range?
I was a bit worried about the poor battery life but now it doesn't seem to be so bad.
I guess with WP7's cloud integration, it just taxes the battery too much.
I had terrible battery life - an app to diagnose what might be the issue would be neat. Turned out I had push updates activated for my oultook account, which I only use for contacts.
Had visions of the phone yelling "HELLO - DOES ANYONE WANT TO BE MY FRIEND?" constantly.
Overnight, I lost about 5% of the battery. Actually, that's another thing I'd like - a % display on the battery meter!
What i am doing is using wifi when needed. and disable the E (data).
The battery life really stays for long...
but bottom line - its a small battery with a big screen, so cant expect much
It has to be something else, maybe network conditions, or a rogue application, or the brightness on your phone.
I have both my Hotmail and Gmail accounts set on "as items arrive" (push) and my phone lasts a very long time. Brightness is set to automatic. Lots of web browsing, lots of texting, limited phone calls. Really, my battery is awesome and it amazes me.
I have my HD7 and its been charged just 4 times. they say it takes a lil time for battery to catch up..
how many charges have u done?

I've had my phone since Saturday, so about 4 full charges as well. It does take time for the battery to catch up, and each battery is different. A good measure would be to give it about a whole week of use/charging. That should break the battery in.
if the phone is connected via wifi this means that the data connection is off? or
that they both connected?

Indicators are at the top of the screen. If it says 3G, G or E, then you are connected to your mobile provider's network. If the Wi-Fi indicator is on, then you are connected to that. If they are both on, you are connected to both, but by default, Windows Phone 7 will attempt to use your Wi-Fi connection first, and then fall back to your mobile connection if Wi-Fi fails.
Hi,
I have flashed my N1 with CM6.1.1 around 2 weeks ago. I'm really satisfied with this ROM.
However, I have noticed my Wi-Fi has gone a little bit weird after flashing CM. Regardless of the Wi-Fi sleep policy setting, my N1 won't turn off the Wi-Fi after it's locked. When I unlock my N1, I can watch the wi-fi icon disappear and then re-appear after a few seconds.
Now I have to manually turn off the Wi-Fi before locking my N1 to conserve the battery. Does anyone know how to get rid of this bug?
Thanks.
i will give you one tip which is its better to leave wifi ON when your phone goes to sleep because it's much better for battery life. if you let wifi turn off during sleep, the phone switches to 3g data which drains far more battery than leaving it on wifi.
now about the disconnect issue, i'm not quite sure what you're seeing. i have a problem with cyanogen 6 where my wifi disconnects for about 3 seconds, and this happens about every 10 minutes or so. its very annoying. but when my phone goes to sleep, i wake it up and still see wifi connected. so no issues there for me.
Wildmonk has some kernel just to address the WiFi issues.
I suggest WM kernel with CM ROM anyway
The problem occurs randomly. Sometimes my phone "knows" it should turn the wi-fi off when it's locked. But most of the time it doesn't...
I think I will live with it.
Anyway. Thanks for the reply.
My WiFi still disconnects every few minutes, then re connects again. It drives me nuts. Cyanogen 6.0
to momomok,
I think you have misunderstood the word "sleep" for Wifi, here sleep means when you are not using your phone the Wifi will turn off temporarily instead of infinitely. It's more like a nap. As you unlock the phone, Wifi will get awake. That's why you will see it re-appear after a few seconds.
I've always had my data on in all my phones.. .I got fed up of the gnote's battery life so I decided to turn it off when I was not using it and God I was surprised, I watched a whole movie and played that train game and I lost only about 15 -20% of my juice.....
so today I turned off my data and WiFi before i went to sleep and when I woke up 6 hours later I had only lost 1%
that has never happened before...
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
wifi has been known to be a great battery hogger on the note, interestingly enough it should be the other way around
as for the data, the phone works extra hard in lower signal areas to boost reception, hence drinking juice
I always disable wifi and data when I'm not using them.
I use the Go Power Master widget to switch between different profiles I have set up for wifi, mobile data, wifi with autosynch and no data.
There are other widgets that do the same thing. Just saves you having to toggle each setting separately.
If I stay connected with wifi, it's not too bad, but if I move out of a wifi area, and leave it on, it seems to drain battery faster (I'm guessing because it keeps rescanning for connections?).
I have somwhere describe this
Any way you will find this solutione better.
Use phoneweaver, you can describe the time, it will stop data at defned time, as well switch on too at your describe time. So if you set data off time just after your time to sleep, N switch on time just b4 your wake up time, you even need not to bother do do it manually
same way this can be triggered by location too, you can switch on/off data/wifi at perticular place.
And there are lot action you can set.
agree to rechlum if you are connected to wi-fi is consume less battery thn you are connected to net with 3G, N keep wifi open with connected to data is draining battery too fast.
could it all mean that I wasted a lot of time trying to reduce my battery consumption with WiFi on?
so far by disabling the unnecessary apps strartups (Autorun Manager) and turning off non-essential syncs I was able to get down to ca. 7mA (Battery Monitor Widget estimates) in standby mode, BUT only when WiFi is off.
When it's on, the power consumption stays at ca. 60mA in standby mode, which is something I cannot comprehed - using CyanogenMod on my previous device I was able to stay below 15mA regardless of WiFi state.
Turning off data is pretty stupid. I don`t about you but my phone is actively working in the background.
checking email every 5mins
gmail syncing
facebook notifications
twiter syncing
Linkedin updates
ebay notification
3G data monitoring
weather updates every 30mins
Latitude monitoring
stocks updates
sports scores updates every 1min with your choice of espn, score mobile, fox sports...
bottom line is gotta use a smartphone as a smartphone. With data turned off notifications are not happening.

If I know I'm not going to be looking at my phone for a while, it's not much use wasting battery having wifi or 3G turned on.
I'm a teacher, so I often have 3-4 hour blocks of time that I won't touch my phone.
I just turn wifi or data back on when I'm ready and my updates still come through when I'm ready to view them. Any updates that might have come through if I had left data enabled, I wouldn't have seen any earlier...
If I'm watching a movie I'll often switch off data because I know I won't be looking at my phone for 2 hours.
I don't see how conserving the battery is "stupid".
One could argue that leaving data enabled when you aren't in a position to use it is "stupid"...
Just out of curiosity, is there some pre-made application that allows me to turn data and wifi off after 5-10 minutes after then screen has been turned off and then turn both back on when the screen is turned on? Or should I just code it myself?

there's an option in Settings / WiFi Settings / Menu key to turn WiFi off when screen is off,
besides that there was one to do exactly what you need, but cannot remeber it's name, if you don't find anything satisfactory then try Lama - it has quite a large range of location-based triggers
Leaving wifi on when you're not using is awful. It completely prevents the phone from going to deep sleep.
I get awesome battery life simply by leaving wifi on only when the screen is on. My battery ranges from 18 hours to 1 day and 23 hours, depending on my use (temple run )

Greenpower will do exactly that. You can set it up so it turns off wifi and 3G/data after a set amount of time after turning off the screen and turn it back on when the screen is turned on. You can have it sync once every n minutes/hours so you still get Whatsapp, emails and other stuff without having to turn on the screen.
It's working like a charm for me, before I used to lose 15 to 20% every night, now with the same usage I've only lost 30% in 67 hours.

Everybody has different needs. If you need all this and to be aware of what i going on in your no-doubt busy social life, then you can do this.
On the other hand, it is utterly useless if you are not going to pick up the phone and see what the weather is (instead of looking out the window) and who is doing what on Facebook (or writing things in Facebook instead of actually doing things) as soon as it beeps at you. In those situations, turning of data will save battery with no loss of information.
Personally I love a 'pull' digital life, rather than a 'push' one. I have far too much to be getting on with to be constantly hassled.
Of course, in actually writing this, I am proving myself completely wrong, but what the hey?
I only care about my Google+ account and my e-mails, everything else matters only when I personally decide to check it. As such I've set my phone to turn data back on every 30 minutes, sync e-mails and Google+, and then turn data back off again.
I use Timeriffic (free from Market/Play) to disable Wifi/Data etc based on time of day.
I don't really care about emails when I'm sleeping!
A must have application IMO.
