Would anyone mind trying on uastring android?
When flash first came out I could watch flash vids on ESPN.com. now I can't, I've tried on stock 91, stock 33, and cyan 6 stable. I can watch if I change ua to desktop but until recently i could easily watch them like any other site. Its sort of annoying. its definitely good I can watch them but its a hassle to keep changing to desktop. I'm stock 33 right now. The vids show up but wont play.
Bump. I realize most people around here probably don't know what ESPN.com is so forgive me maybe if I keep bumping, someone who is familiar will happen across this. Thanks
I just tested it and they play fine for me. I am running the latest nightly but I doubt that matters. When I clicked the link it asked me if I wanted to play using double twist or movies. I picked movies.
I could watch in either android mode or desktop.

Thanks that's interesting. When I use desktop they work but don't ask what I want to use to play them. Come to think of it, when vids on ESPN used to work for me they never asked what I wanted to play them with. I wish I knew if clearing the browsers data or even wiping the phone could fix it, it would be a hassle but it'd be worth it. Oh well, its always something...thanks again
edit: they work when i have plug-ins set to "on demand", thats good enough for me i suppose
edit: now doesnt work "on demand" after the first time. This phone sure does test my patience frequently.
bump, just wondering if any issues watching espn videos have come up for anyone else? Im talking about the full site of course, not the mobile one.
Is there anyway the radio could be at fault? edit- nvm didnt work
Im grasping at straws here its just so irritating that the only website I want to use flash with is the only website I cant.
Im currently running a custom ROM and it still isnt working. Im on frg 33 but espn.com videos stopped working before I flashed it.
I am using Dolphin Browser HD and I watch the videos embedded in the page. They work great for me. The Volume buttons are set to scroll initially so you can go to the app settings and change it back so you can adjust volume while watching.

thanks thats interesting. I tried dolphin, i can watch vids on the espn mobile site but i still cant on the full site. I cant imagine what the problem could be since it spans stock/rooted, various roms, various browser apps and various radios, what the hell even remains consistent throughout all of that which could cause this? I love this phone but my technical difficulties sure are adding up...it would be cool if i at least had some number to call to get help with the $600 device i purchased. My fault though I did realize google wanted to forget the poor nexus one fairly early on...
Well, it is definitely slow to load up. I have dolphin set to Desktop UA. The page loads up. I click the flash player on-demand. The flash video box stays black for a little bit, then eventually the play button comes up and a commercial plays first. Then again the black box reappears and then the play symbol loads again. (this is with about 1mb/s connection or less). Its takes some patience, but its espn highlights on the go, for free, so I can't complain.
I also remember a newer version of flash player coming last week or maybe 2 weeks ago. You could try to uninstall and reinstall flash player.
When you say not loading, do you mean the flash area is black, or the area has an error message displayed?

Looks like something have changed att youtube because it's like the built in youtube application is suddenly struggling to play the high res videos. It's not a buffering issue, I've checked that already. Videos get short pauses now and then, almost like the hardware acceleration is disabled. I doubt I'm the only one experiencing this...
Could you link me to this youtube app, please? I went directly to the youtube site yesterday and streamed a couple of short vids which played ok but with buffering. It played in the stream app on the phone and I couldn't zoom it or do full screen. What does the youtube app do differently? Does it allow better streaming or full screen or something?
I mean the original youtube app thats pre-installed in the Diamond. It uses hardware acceleration to play videos with nice quality and smooth framerate, now it's not that good anymore so I'm guessing something have changed at youtube... It's strange though...

That app doesn't appear to be on my phone, the t-mobile compact 4.
Maybe your operator removed it from your Diamond rom??? You can install it separately, check here for info and the download: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=472940
Just make sure you install the VGA one... But you probably already knew that of course...

Okey dokey, thanks. It's installed now and rebooting. I'll try the fix if it doesn't work. And no, I didn't know I needed the VGA version so thanks for pointing that out.
Ok, I installed the fix because the screen looked a bit messed up and the text is tiny and I can't seem to zoom in. Stil the same with the fix however the video runs very well. But, the capture area is a small square on the left bottom corner in landscape mode. I'll take some pictures of my screen for you.
Ok, here's 2 screenshots. It defaults to playing in landscape but only the small area you can see. Where I type to search, the letters are cut off (see 'CATS AND DOGS') and the text is microscopically small. Any adjustments I can make? Is it possible for the seartch to bring up more than 5 results?
At least it works though, very smooth playback.
That looks very strange... Videos should play fullscreen in landscape...
I suggest you to uninstall that version & the fix and get this version instead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=481495
It's a newer version of the HTC youtube player, download the second link, the full version: http://www.uploadjockey.com/download/4336552/Youtube_v1.6.1820.4128_FULL.zip
I really hope this will solve your problems and make it work as it should, if not I'm out of ideas since I'm not an expert in this area...

Thanks man, I'll give it a try.
This is odd. I've installed it successfully and it shows up in 'remove programs' but it doesn't show up anywhere else, nowhere to be found in program files, (the other version did), so I can't start the app. This happened when installing to the internal storage, uninstalling it, and reinstalling to the device.
I'll reinstall the earlier version and then do the upgrade version, see if that helps.
Yes that worked! Thanks for the links owziee
I notice that I can scroll up and down the list of videos with the centre button, but it doesn't respond to screen touch with finger, is it meant to be like that? Anyway, not bothered, just wondering. I'm happy now, the quality is great, it's full screen and the text is normal size now.
No thats not normal, I can use my finger to scroll but at least you can watch the videos now. Maybe you'll find a fix for the scrolling issue.

I suppose it may be that because your Diamond came pre fitted with a youtube app that perhaps it was optimised to work with touch screen? Whereas mine is a t mobile phone which didn't come with youtube on it.

Anyone having trouble toggling to fullscreen while watching NFL Network using this app? The video plays fine small but when I hit fullscreen the stream stops. I'm running NFSfans 6.5 final rom. The video opens windows media player by default. Anyway to open the stream in TCMP or streaming media instead?
i cant get around the option to upgrade. I even did a fresh install of the app from the original sprint dump.
I didn't install any updater, but whenever i open the app it tells me to upgrade. The widget still works fine so I just keep that on one of the home screens. So to people who use this app we are kinda boned in terms of checking stats and listening to games, but as long as we use the widget we still get real time scores.
Oh, and also I don't know who likes what teams but if you are interested in listening to some games download "a online radio" from the market. My team is the packers and unfortunately I can't get any of their games, but I have listened to entire Dallas, Pit, and San diego games. Just search espn and it will give you all the available espn radio stations you can stream on your phone.
I dont get any prompts to upgrade. But I am unable to view the NFL Network Stream or the Live Games anymore. I get a black screen with Audio only. Used to work fine.
Other videos within the app work fine.
Anyone else get this?
I have the newest version v2.4.1-1.0.111 I downloaded the .cab file from the sprint site via desktop pc. The cab is named... nfl2009.cab for the HTC Touch qvga 240 x 320. Everything works fine except I cant view nfl network in full screen using the app via media player mobile. Someone in another post said it was possible to view nfl network fullscreen through Sprintv. Problem is I have verizon as a carrier.
All this hype around Android made me buy a SGS. Having flash on the browser was one big reason for acquisition. Soon I discovered that flash isn't what is promised, a desktop experience on my mobile device. I say this because most of the time (like 95%) the flash works so bad in my browser, that is barely usable. When trying to watch streams, mostly on news sites I get a message with "The video is not optimized for mobile" and the playback is choppy, sometimes when seeking, takes 10-15 seconds until the choppy playback starts again. If I try to watch something in low quality it works fine, but most of the sites offer good quality video. I expect more from a 1Ghz cpu...
Is this a problem of my device or is it general ? I have the latest Adobe Flash available on the market.
What firmware and kernel are you using?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Do some research... if you are using the Default browser, open it and in the address bar type:
about:debug
and hit go...
Now go into your browser settings and at the bottom there should be an option to set the UA String, select Desktop....
Downside:
some sites will still see your device as mobile.
you have to re do the fix Every time you load the browser...
Alternative:
try Dolphin HD broswer, it has a US string setting in the options already and only needs set once.
Downside:
Is a little slower to load pages than the default browser.
some sites will still see your device as mobile.
An another point, if you are using 3g... don't expect miracles!
sadly he's right ;( its not even working properly over wifi so i cant really say the net is the problem.
id say the problem lies in flash itself and/or its something in the memory management since ive seen stock roms delivering way better flashperformance than any custom so far, so possibility is that the stream freezes and has to rebuffer every time the memmngt cuts the memory, else you could just try to flash ubuntu and see if it works any magic ;P what do it know for all its worth it could be tha b0mb
good luck anyways !

Solution: Flash a custom JVK Gingerbread rom and DO NOT install the flash player from the market, but use the one that comes preinstalled! This way you'll have 720p flash videos playing smoothly.

I guess its rather a problem with some websites.
I never had problem with Flash player 10.1 or 10.2 (i am MIUI rom but i had previously JVK)
No problem with my SGS but i dont use flash that often so it could be as said some sites .
Use Dolphin HD browser mostly .

I have stock JS4 ROM, sorry forgot to mention this in the main thread. Also I am using flash only via Wifi. Actually I am using Opera Mobile and I've set the UA to Firefox Desktop one. Gonna try the idea with stock browser, maybe Opera has messed up something.
I didn't see a thread for the Crackle app from Sony that is free in the Market. This app gives you access to a lot of free movies and television shows. I have it installed on both of my gTabs (one running VEGAn 5.1.1 and the other running CyanogenMod 7.0.3 (stable)) and it runs great. I have noticed that during some times of the day it seems that the network connection between Crackle's servers and my house come to almost a crawl. Other than that it's another great free way to watch movies and t.v. shows on our gTabs.
Can you please share the latest version of the apk, all searches outside US gives us the 1.0 version (which don't run on the gtab).
TIA

I'm runnuing BOS from Roe with the latest edition and this will load and install.
Had audio for a while and no video.
Now nothing but a white screen when I hit the watch now button for Silverado which was the first movie listed.
How's this supposed to work-download the movie or is it streaming etc??
Saw a add to Que but don't know how this works.

I've never ran that ROM so I can only speak to my experience with a gTab running CM 7.0.3.
It streams the video like Netflix/Hulu/Fox TV, it doesn't download it like the BlockBuster app.
Like I said on my original post, at certain times of the day or with certain videos it seems the network connection is super slow which can lead to white or black screens with only audio as the app is trying to buffer the video. Try it when you have the best WiFi connection possible. When at home I have 12 mb downstream and it plays fine for me 90% of the time.
As for the queue, it's just that, a queue like on Hulu. It's sort of a playlist so if you have several shows or movies in your queue they will play one after the other automatically.

Well I'll try again and thanks for the info.
I must say, I'm pretty unimpressed with it. Its organization is a mess, and it looks like it just has rather unpopular shows and movies on it.
I might be wrong. But it seems to me that I'm sticking with Netflix for the time being.
Some of us are too cheap to pay for Netflix.
It's still got a few decent movies on there, and Seinfield and Married w/Children are a hoot for quick watching. It's at least worth a download, even if you only watch a couple of movies and uninstall it.
Pretty awesome Running G-Harmony and watching Ghostbusters as I type this! Thanks for posting!!

It sounds like Crackle is using Flash. And it's a well known issue that flash only kind of works in Bottle of Smoke. Flash will play audio but not video. Knowing this I will not bother trying to install this on my tablet which is running GTabComb (which is a 1.1 bootloader derivative of BOS). The only reason YouTube app works on BOS is because it is probably using html5 instead of flash in the app.
Could you u post the latest version?

When I first got my Chromecast, I was able to play a video (on hulu for example) in fullscreen mode, then alt tab back to Chrome so I could still use my laptop while casting to the TV in full screen.
In the past week, it no longer works. When I alt tab, it automatically goes out of full screen mode. So now I have to have my laptop playing the video in fullscreen if I want to cast it in fullscreen to the TV.
I can't find anything in my searches about this happening to anyone else when I google the problem. Has anyone else run across this issue?
Thanks

My guess is this is related to the Flash Player or the player on the site that you are using. I have seen this happen on my two monitor setup where when I go to the second screen it breaks out of full screen mode on the first monitor. I'm pretty sure all i had to do was restart my machine. But I would try reinstalling Flash, clearing cache, cookies, etc.
Do you see the same behavior when you are not using Chromecast?
Good luck.

It happens with any video, whether casting or not. I used to be able to watch Hulu.com in fullscreen and cast it to the tv, then I could alt tab to another tab to check FB or something. Now it doesn't work. I've tried hulu, youtube, and some other video sites and they all the the same thing. When you hit Alt they immediately go back to the small screen page. I've rebooted my computer and reinstalled the Cast extension. Wondering if I need to reinstall Chrome. It did crash one me a few times this weekend, though not in the past couple of days.

I have had a similar issue. I received mine on Tuesday and the first day full screen worked for espn and I was able to Alt+Tab to continue browsing. Last night, I tried to do the same thing but It would only display a picture of the tab with the embedded video (when I would go to full screen, the embedded video was black with the tab content around it. when I would exit full screen the embedded video began playing again.) Essentially, I can no longer go into full screen mode for any flash based video (tried with NFL network too). Mine did an update first thing when I turned it on yesterday. I didn't write down the original version I had nor what it updated to. My flash player also updated recently but I think that was before I tried it for the first time. I did not try to reboot my machine or reinstall flash / chrome but I did attempt to do it from 2 different computers on my network and both suffered from the same issue.

I found a post on another forum that helped me resolve the issue. In your google chrome browser (assuming that's what you are using), type in about://plugins. Click on the Details icon (+) on the far right of the Plugins title bar. Look for Adobe flash and you probably have 2 plugins listed. Look for pepflashplayer.dll . It should be listed in the location section. Click on disable. You may need to restart the browser. Try your fullscreen again.
That fixed it for me, so I hope it fixes it for you.
I just found a pretty neat trick to do fullscreen.
Install the "Chrome Toolbox" which allows you to open flash videos by themselves, separate from anything else on that webpage.
Go to the page with the flash video you are playing. Cast that tab. Hover over the video and an icon will appear to allow you to put it on its own window. Chromecast will now only show the video, same as if you went fullscreen. Video quality seems better when the window is not minimized.

Thanks for the tip but I can't get it to work. I have Chrome Toolbox installed, went to Hulu and cast that tab and not getting anything when I hover over the view to pop it out as a separate window.

It's working now. Thanks for the tip. I can use this trick to cast to the TV and still use my laptop for other stuff.
Toolbox Pop-out link??
Hi guys!
Any chance of a link to the Chrome Toolbox in the app store? The one I'm looking at is probably not the one I'm looking for.
BTW, Alt-Tab is working for me, but the full-screen video is playing in the background so I can see it in place of the Windows taskbar. I can move about the desktop though

Unfortunately Chrome Toolbox doesn't work on Windows 8? And isn't available anymore anyway?
This is really annoying. Just got Chromecast.
But when casting a tab of full screen video on certain websites and I move from the tab it reverts to its original frame.
Basically I just want to be able to play full screen content from sites like BBC's iPlayer while doing other things on the computer.
Fiddling with flash plugins doesn't seem to change it. I looked for other possibly relevant extensions in the web store but none really worked.
This seems to me a fundamental but should be pretty simple problem for Google to fix.
Any other ideas now?
Thanks, Tom

Not sure about Windows 8, but in 7 I am pretty sure I can hit the Windows key + D which will minimize the browser and allow me to continue what I am doing.

I like that "feature" - my old ATI TV tuner card used to have that.

It seems to depend on how the player achieves full-screen. Some sites have a full-screen option from the browser level, and that seems to behave differently (also sometimes different resolution) than using the full-screen/zoom option in the player.
Good example is www.BabyFirstTV.com
The blue-background full-screen button just full-screens the video in the tab and shows the Exit Fullscreen button when casted.
The full-screen button in the player window (bottom right corner) make the video full-desktop size (and replaces my desktop background), and doesn't show the (annoying) Exit Fullscreen button. The bottom does get cut off, likely because my desktop is 1920x1200 so I'm losing the bottom 180 pixels.
For me at least, either method allows me to Alt-Tab to another application without messing up the Chromecast playback though.

Thanks, unfortunately though for me when using that browser-level full screen video, and I move from the tab, it reverts to its original frame.
I'm using Windows 8 x64 with Chrome Beta 32.

Can you try it on www.babyfirsttv.com ? I'm guessing any browser/tab-level zoom will depend on how the site is coded.

Yeah, if it takes up just the tab it's ok, but when going completely full screen it doesn't stay like that if I move... And unfortunately many sites with video, like the ones I want to use, only have that option.
