Hi there, I have a question for you all: I am trying to install Metamorph on my Desire with pinkydesire on but when the app starts with checks says that I don't have enough space on my /system partition. Same error with any other mod I tried. Do you know why, and how can I resolve the problem? Thx
unfortunatly metamorph can't work because we don't have access to the system partition while android is booted. We can only change roms and themes in recovery.
However full root access is close with a script someone cooked in the desire forum

that sounds nice Do you have a specific date or maybe you can refer me to a thread where I can read more about it?

Thought now might be a good time to split these topics up since Diamond/Raph/Blackstone/etc. users are now frequent users of Android and are now jumping on the theme bandwagon..
I am currently using Open Home but am anxious to know how far we can customize and get similar results to the native android users who are using different methods for loading themes.
Thanks!
I don't know if those phones have the same res as the authentic andros so this area should remain as is.
Most themes here are flashed via recovery mode or use Metamorph which may or may not work or the non-Android phones atm.

I think that is my main question.. Since our whole OS is on the storage cards and not embedded in the phone memory, can we (Winmo-android users) swap some files and load haret, or are we not able to perform certain functions which would be required to load some of these new awesome themes?
If there are seperate steps needed to add metamorph or any other hacks to work on XDAndroid, perhaps a new section for winmo users might avoid confusion down the line? (Raph - Diam - Blackstone, etc) are almost daily users of Android and would hopefully be able to have a similar experience to the "native" users.
MetaMorph
I have to agree with the people with Android on WM Phones...
I have scowerd the forums for hours trying to make this Metamorph work cuz I like alot that it has to offer, but I got this error talkin bout "make sure enough space in /system and that busybust is insalled".
I don't know where to look for info they have a forum on blackston android but there ain't nothin really relivant to my problem.
To be honest I don't how much of the stuff will work on a hybrid phone, my android seems too work pretty good so that would lead me to beleive most of the stuff would work that is develped for a root android.
Imma keep lookin
WinMo phones or otherwise these themes will work on them the same way they work on the true Android devices. If the ROM developer did things correctly, there should be 0 issues.
I've got 9 of what I would consider the best themes working on my Warm Donut ROM for the Vogue, Kaiser and Polaris WinMo phones.
No need to differentiate.

I have been having problems getting metamorph to work on my raphael... everytime I start metamorph and let go threw the intial configuration I get a error saying to "make sure enough room in /system and that busybox is intalled". I tryed using the terminal emulator to install busybox. I don't know if it worked or not.

Do you have write permissions to /system ?
Is your sqsh file on an ext2 partition or is it on the fat partition (in the same dir as haret)?

The enitre OS is on the root of my sd card...
someone told me that the /system file is read only and it can't be modified inside android...
Is your Android OS on your device memory or your sd card??

On Vogue you are able to either run it via SD Card from the fat partition, from an EXT2 partition or via NAND.
Both the EXT2 partition and NAND methods allow access to system.
Until EXT2/NAND support is ported for your device, MetaMorph will not work.
Only manually injected rom themes will be supported unfortunately .
my old friends..
Ahh my good ol winmo friends. Back in the day when I had a tilt I ran android then when zenulator stopped deving. My advice is to learn about metamorph and how to use it to create metamorphs. That way you can take apart various flashable themes and use metamorph to port the themes over to your device.
So I'm fairly new to android about three months now, and need help.....
1) How do you modify system files and apk's? (tried Estrongs but it won't let me use root access even when i click the always allow prompt)
2) Can someone explain exactly how i partition for Apps2SD ( PM me if possible)
3) Can you change bootscreens with a .zip flash? if so does anyone have a link for the cynanogen mod nexus boot as used in Darchvanilla??
Thank you and any help is deeply appreciated.....
did you just make 2 threads of the exact same thing???
That search feature has been breaking all damn day!! I swear we need a HUGE Search icon in the middle of the freakin forum.
not purposely i'm on a slow connection and clicked it twice???

1) mount to your pc pull the apk you wish then use "7 zip" to extract it
2) boot into recovery(home + end call) go to partition...partition swap + file + ext
3) yes you can flash a boot screen using a zip file
For the bootscreens use Fresh's new kitchen. It has the nexus one bootscreen and a couple others. Then you just hit a couple of buttons and its on your phone without having to manually edit or even boot into recovery.

1.) no idea...try linda file manager.
2.) you partition it with the recovery image. swap/ext/fat32
3.) yes
4.) define normal?
Normal by the 2.1 vanilla lockscreen (I Sware I hate the HTC lock, lol)
and could you post a few instructions for apps2sd because i'm still not sure,

to remove the htc lock screen just pull the lockscreen.apk via adb or using the new fresh kitchen.... or you could install fresh's new 2.1 rom. apps2sd should set up automatically as long as the rom you pick has it integrated. you have to make sure your sd card is partitioned before flashing the rom.

I can concur with this ^
If you want a good 2.1 rom then go with damage or fresh. If you want a 1.5 id go with pancake without sense, super fast!
Mod plz delete. The thread is remade now . less garbage in it
Hi,
That's sound great. Will test it as sun as 8 come home.

I realy dont think so, but i leave no guarantie! if i had an wildfire i would have tryd it my self. I realy think i would have root on a wildfire if i just had it in my hand for a while
any tried this one yet ? I sooo wan to try but im not sure as it could brick my phone.. if it does.. I get no warranty rigth(pretty sure im not)?
Doesn't work (I think)..
When I try to flash the recovery provided by the ROM Manager, I get the verification failed error and it stops.. Just like with the guide Paul from modaco posted before he pulled it because it wasn't working..
damn!
realy hoped it should work. anyone of you running linux?
maybe i have to pick a phone out from a shop, try to root it and then return it unrooted.
Yeah, shame really..
Any idea why the verification would fail?
Not running linux, but I could set up a VM if you need something specific from someone with a wildfire.. (Though I probably would need detailed instructions as to what you want me to do, been a long time since I last used ubuntu)
danne_jo:
I have a Gentoo and an Ubuntu on a machines running, and i can setup anyone distri in virtualbox. What do you need?
I also can setup you a $YOUR_DISTRI in VirtualBox for you and give you ssh with root.
Btw can't find a Rom Manager in the market. Tried everything RomManager rommanager Rom Manager
You can have it with appbrain and fast web installer.
i will keep looking into this!
but its hard when i dont have a wildfire in my hands my self.
im sorry if i gave you false hope on this.
Am adding rom manager to this post:

Thanks for the rom manager
Now then recovery is comming to wildfire i have remade a rooted rom.
Hi,
Just tested this - bug at line 13 on trying to set permissions of DATA - probably related to a2sd - did I need to partition my sdcard first?
Best,
Martin
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Row 13 in the script does this:
set_perm 0 0 0777 DATA:a2sd
So i belive as you self belive it depends on your SD-card. Try to partition you card. To something similar to this:
swap = 0mb
ext = 256-512mb
upgrade ext2 to ext3 (if you have this option)
and then wipe your phone, and reflash. if it doesent work we go from there. But i cant see anything woring with the script if wildfire work as the other HTC models.
Thanx for trying. if we dont manage to make this work i will make a rom that doesent use app2sd at start.
Regards Daniel
*Edit* did found that bugg! But you should realy have the sd partionated as i wrote before anyway
Will remake rom right now.
Great - if you post it up I'll test later!
If we can sort all hardware issues it will be a great start for other devs.

You can't until root is generally available.
I'm testing this now -- currently copying files at 50% and all is well ;P
Ok, flashed ROM, installation succeeds.
However, the ROM will not boot. Stuck at HTC loading screen.
I am unable to diagnose the problem because, at present, there is no /system/bin/sh executable, so can't connect via adb to see the log (even adb logcat relies on this).
I would recommend symlinking bash to /system/bin/sh so this can be done.
I've accidentally just started restoring a nandroid backup, but when that's done will wipe, re-apply update, symlink sh -> bash and try again.
Ive tried almost everything possible.
I cant seem to install Metamorph correctly because each time i install it and open the app, it closes out and says it needs more space in /system.
Im not sure what that means.
Ive tried using RootExplorer but each time i deleted a app from /system/app after a reboot it would reappear.
Any sugguestions and/or help?
I have searched in the Android forum and in here but i cant find anything that works..
If you can fix my problem please be KIND enough to share!
IF not .. read and move on! thanks!
Unless I am mistaken, at this time we are not able to use Metamorph as we do not have rw access to necessary directories.
Well that makes tooooottaalll sense!
Thanks! : )
With the new script dumfuq released it is now possible to use metamorph as I can at least go through the steps with out phone rebooting
Try it out lemme know

^^^ if metamorph is possible please someone confirm
the main issue before was the rw system . Now we can with dumfuq I have been messing around with it and still learning. But once again now that we can rw i would almost say yes. I just need a more defined tuturial for the slide metamorph personally

Have you rebooted your phone since flashing dumfuqs rw-overlay script? I an not sure if the script is perm or just a temp thing.
Aka tried opening mm and it rebooted then flashed rwoverlay and tried mm again and it was fine .

Tried both, kept force rebooting. Maybe it's the new Fenix/Nightly.
