Softkeys don't light-up, Trackball flash red (Error?!) - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After i go step by step this tutorial forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726258& the softkeys on my Nexus One don't light-up. If it is dark, in example by night, i didn't see the keys and i have to guess where the right softkey is.
I think the trackball flashes red, because it's a error statement that the softkeys are faulty.
I think the problem made by flashing the mtd0.img from this website ks33673.kimsufi.com/misc , because it's for a HTC Desire.
So i think i have to flash the right mtd0.img for a Nexus One LCD to fix the Problem.
But i can't find something like this.
After this procedure the display don't work and i flashed the PASSIMG_Passion_Google_WWE_2.16.1700.1_FRG33_release_signed.zip with the new HBOOT for my LCD on my Phone. Then i flashed CyanogenMod 6 stable and it still works fine, but the softkeys always dark and the trackball flash red.
If the room bright enough, and the softkeys has not to flash, the trackball doesn't flash red.
So i need help, please.
Sorry for my english, it's not my native language.

FYI, this should not be in the development forum... mods please move!!!
Trackball flashing does not mean error... it's a notification alert... and as to the soft-keys... they don't flash... they lightup... maybe something to do with the SLCD version of the N1!!!
Do they light up if you have just stock??

First time, before i downgrade my hboot the softkeys light up. Now, after downgrade and upgrad back to 0.35.0017 they don't light up.
There is no difference between stock or custom rom.
I tested:
- PASSIMG_Passion_KT_KR_2.15.1010.2_FRF91_release_signed.zip
- PASSIMG_Passion_Vodafone_Generic_2.15.151.5_R_FRF 91_release_signed.zip
- PASSIMG_Passion_Google_WWE_2.16.1700.1_FRG33_release_signed.zip
After i flashed Google_WWE_2.16.1700.1_FRG33, flashed CyanogenMod with Custom Recovery (RA-nexus-v1.8.0.1-aw).
For what does the notification stand? It's also red, if i flashed a stock rom and has no additional apps installed.
When i put the lightness sensor under a lamp or is bright enough (sun is shining), the trackball doesn't flash red.
If the phone is in standby, the trackball doesn't flash.

Sounds like a sensor calibration failure.
Is there any data files stored anywhere in relation with hboot.
Your flashing procedure for 0.35 hboot retrieving may not put the LCD compliant data's.
Sorry it's only a clue, I'm novice in android and nexus.

Thank you for your comment, but until now I didn't have an idea how its help me.

Until now I'm not possible to fix the problem.
I only found a way to disable the red trackball:
I go to CM settings under "user interface" and activated "use custom" in "automatic backlight" and set in "edit other levels" all levels to 0 at buttons. So the system will not activate the back-light of the soft-keys in any way and the error message (red trackball) don't appear.
Additional i know that the back-light is not faulty, when i started in LED notification the flash test in someone of the application, the back-light lights up collectively with the trackball.
The problem is still alive, when i have a stock rom, like Passion_Google_WWE_2.16.1700.1_FRG33.
Have anyone another idea how i can fix this problem?

Is this how the trackball is supposed to behave?

Despite whatever notifications I have and whatever ROM or kernel I use (even stock), the trackball won't flash. It simply lights up at random whenever I'm using the phone. I can also send an echo command to the correct directory and make the trackball light turn on or blink so I know it's working. What could possibly be wrong? It also won't come on at all if the display is off. Is that normal? I'd like to use that for notifications instead of the LED but it's no good if it only works with the screen on.
The trackball light isn't used for notifications. I think I have seen some apps for using the trackball for notification, but if not you will have to do some xml editing to use it for notifications. If the other lights come on but not the trackball it could be a problem with the rom. When porting a rom from one phone to another there has to be edits to files to make it work. If none of the lights come on, then it is because your phone deems it bright enough where you are at.
Ah alright. Out of curiosity, do you know which .xml file I'd have to edit? Or rather if it's even possible for it come on with the screen off in a Sense 2.1 rom?

Notification LED flashing only once

is this happening to anyone else? when i get a notification, the led flashes just one time...then nothing. its not too useful if i don't happen to see the one time it flashes.
i'm kind of hoping its broken...i don't really want it if that's working as designed.
yeah that what it is doing for me also
Dunno. I gave up and installed Light Flow from the Market, so I could use multi-colored notification lights (which I miss from my Nexus 1).
Now the lights flash repeatedly, although not as quickly as I'd like.
Mine flashes more than once, about every 3 seconds
thanks for the feedback. looks like i got a bad one....
I decided to do a factory reset before bringing it in. Notification is now working normally. The only thing I did different was not auto-restore my apps.
I just set up Handcent to do fast blue flashes. It didn't flash on the text coming in, but as soon as the screen went dark, it started flashing ever three seconds.
I didn't know you could create custom colors on the flash LED. I had it flashing white for a bit.
I would like to confirm that doing a factory reset and not restoring google settings fixed my notification issue also..

[Q] HTC One (m7) Green LED not working

I currently have a stock HTC One in Canada on the Telus network.
The last few weeks i noticed the LED light growing dim. About a week ago the phone rebooted itself only to say it had an issue and that it was not shutdown correctly.. and asked if i wanted to report the problem to HTC.
The phone the froze with the Screen on but a black background.
After 15 minutes i powered off the phone.
At this point the phone would not power back on.. when i plugged the power in to the phone from the wall the phone would not indicate that it was charging via LED.
I tried booting no response.. no vibrating,.. just slight flashing lights on the Home/back buttons
I ended up booting up the phone by shining a bright light into the light sensor while holding Power and DOWN volume..
Phone has been working fine ever since, however still no LED.
I did a factory reset and still no LED.
Has anyone see anything like this?
I want to root and install Google Edition Android however if the hardware is faulty i dont want to risk voiding the warranty and being stuck with a faulty phone.

This has happened to me too. Just one day noticed no led light anymore. Strange thing to break down on a phone! Have you had any joy in getting a fix?

Unfortunately I have not been successful getting the LED back.. I am debating sending the phone in for Warranty work... or just sucking it up and rooting/flashing custom roms.
My main concern is that there may be a bigger hardware issue going on internally.
I'm really just trying to get a feel of how common this issue is..

Try this: in dialer type *#*#3424#*#* (3424 = DIAG), that will bring up HTC internal diagnostic, there's a "LED Test", select and run it to see if it's a hardware defect or not (you will get Orange and Green LED tests).

Thanks for the info.. Just tried it the LED test .
To my surprise the Green and Orange lights actually show up but I have to hold it to my eye and block out any external light to see anything.. kind of defeats the purpose of an LED notification light..
I guess the light works its just extremely DIM.
Any way of controlling the LED light brightness?

Don't know, but I just ran the same test in a very well lit environment and the Green and Orange LED are quite bright... I don't have to "go look for them" they pop out nicely.
Are you using a cover of any kind? Or maybe the LED has somehow shifted it's position and is being partially covered by the speaker grill? Hate to say it, but sounds like a hardware issue. Sorry
Hope someone else has other ideas.

Not using any case that would cover the LED.. that being said even with the Case off.. the LED is still very dim.

Shouldn't affect it. I've been using ARHD 9 through 13.3 and works with all of them.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
I've ran the LED test, and all of them work. But they dont light up for notifications, and i have it enabled in the settings.

I have the same problem. Did factory reset two times. Red when charging, green when full but no flashing green for notification. I enabled it in settings.
Have you manage to find a solution for the problem?
Thanks.

I also have the same problem: when it is charging and when it is fully charged the light works OK but doesn't flash for notifications. But it worked OK some time ago. Actually, when I think about it, it seems that the problem started after I had updated to the current firmware: Android version 4.3, HTC Sense version 5.5, software number 3.62.401.1
It must be issue with firmware/software because LED test works fine.
There's another thread similar to this one and someone there figured out the solution - you do a factory reset but, when the phone reboots, you do not restore everything using your Google account. Go through the setup as normal (without restoring) and once that is complete then you can add your Google account details.
It means you have to download and set up your apps again, but it is worth it to get the LED working.
HI I had a similar problem I cleaned out the hole with a needle and all is well, pin came out dirty (the one on the grill dirt was blocking led )

Charging when phone off with latest firmware

Hey guys,
after flashing the latest 3.57 firmware, when trying to charge my phone whiles its off, the screen lights up with a large battery icon and the red warning text of the hboot, then it suddenly shows CWM's screen and lastly it displays a black fully-lit screen while both the charging led and the bottom led keys light up. Is this normal behaviour? Does anyone else experience this?
Thanks in advance.

Mine has always done this when I have CWM installed. I believe someone made a customized version that does not do that, I normally don't ever turn my phone off though so I haven't tried it. I believe it can be found in the CWM thread.

Screen won't turn on when pressing the power button

Hello there,
I got my hands on a M7, which was fully stock and working. It has some minor scratches and damaged material here and there, though it worked fine, except for phone calls only being audible in speaker mode.
I flashed TWRP recovery and installed the latest nightly of Cyanogen mod (cm-12.1-20151005-NIGHTLY-m7). Though to prevent the custom recovery from being patched I unlocked the bootloader (Not sure if that was the solution, though).
It was all fine, until the screen dimmed, and I tried powering on the screen again by pressing the power button. Though it wouldn't turn on. I even tried setting on the option to turn on screen when connected to a power source, though it never powered on again. I also noticed a slight flash of blue light every now and then, and the screen feels too sensitive. It might register a press when you're just scrolling.
Could someone help me out with this? Of course I believe a hardware fix would be appropriate, but as how everything worked until the flashes, I believe it might be fixed with some software.
Any help is much appreciated.

If you are talking about the screen not turning on (as opposed to the complete phone) Its a known bug of CM roms. The screen can't be turned back on when it was set to minimum brightness, or when the auto brightness set it to minimum. To avoid that, you'll need to adjust the brightness yourself instead of auto mode, avoiding the minimum adjustment. CM is known to be a buggy rom for the M7, you shouldn't have this issue if using a GPE or Sense rom.

Thanks for the info. I figured as much, I will try Exodus.
EDIT: I have tried Exodus, XenonHD and Dirty Unicorns. Though no success: none of them were able to turn on the display after it dimmed.
