Hey everyone,
I have a pretty noob question that I've researched and can't seem to get a good answer for.
I'm running the latest FireFly ROM and I was looking into installing SetiroN's kernal also for a little overclock capability.
What's the process for flashing this kernal? Do I need to restore my phone or anything before doing this? Can I just throw it on my phone and use the SGS Kernal app to install it? All apps and system data are backed up at the moment.
Thanks guys!

Disable existing lag fixes
Use the sgs kernel flasher
Swyped from my captivate
thanks I was hoping it was truly that simple

Np
Remember to backup your original kernal first

Alright everything went very smoothly. I only have one other question which this may not be the best place to ask it but I'll try my luck anyways.
SetiroN's kernal says something about a universal lagfix (stuzpy's or something) and it tells you how to configure it but I can't seem to find how to do that. Is there supposed to be a new app for it? I don't have one.
Thanks again
EDIT: nevermind i found it! it was in CWM recovery
Hero, software version 2.32.651.2, kernel 2.6.29. Rooted, but otherwise completely stock. I want to be able to overclock. I know I have to put a custom kernel on, but so far all the kernels I find are older. Is there a way I can get an up to date kernel with a default overclock without having to compile? Is there an up to date kernel that all it does is uncap the overclocks? Also, I'd rather not put on a custom ROM at this time.
Thanks in advance.
The most widely used and undoubtedly the best is Deca's kernel - you can find in the Dev section. But, I am not sure if it will work with the stock ROM.

Just grabbed that and flashed it. Seems to work! I haven't tested anything else other than basic functionality but SetCPU does indeed say it is overclocked.
Thanks!

Make sure to check WiFi. When I rooted the .2 stock, I lost WiFi connectivity with decas kernel. However, the last Zen kernel worked fine. The date on the kernel was like 8/22/10 but it was the only one that I could get to work and still have full functionality. Use the nopreflock version when you find the page.
Let me know
Hi again,
I need to find a kernel that has DM_CRYPT included/enabled. Is it possible to find that, just kernel and stay on stock GB? Or do i have to flash a custom rom, if so, which do have DM_CRYPT? Hope someone can assist me quickly, since this depends on wether if i'll keep the note or not...
Thanks!
it would be kernel related not rom related, you would have to see if a dev woudl put this into a kernmel for you but why do you need it?
Some apps need it. And i need them. I heard that all Honeycomb roms have it, so i guess ICS too. But i'm not gonna take risks since i might return it. And i don't have much time... How am i supposed to i "contact a dev" to request that? Is that a request board? If i'm alone to request it won't happen anyway.
Abyss kernel (v3.1) is compiled with CONFIG_DM_CRYPT=y . Since there is nothing about it in the changelog, I expect the latest version also has this option enabled.
Thanks! I'm gonna try it then. But what's difference between CW Touch & RedPill? I know CW Touch of course... But not RedPill. Anyway, if i flash this, Custom Rom Manager (from CF-Root) won't work anymore, eh? I can switch kernel, no risk? If anyone know other kernel with DM CRYPT , please post! ^^
PS: If it's just a line to edit "CONFIG_DM_CRYPT=y" then can't i just do it somehow on any kernel?
EDIT: I installed 4.2 and the app which required dmcrypt still refuse... If it was loaded, then should work directly, eh?
I'm sorry but i forgot a thing : "Loopback device" is required too, i guess this is some setting in the kernel..? Or is it something else? If so tell me what please Abyss doesn't work, i tested 3.5 too (can't test older since megaupload's dead... If you have links...) :X
I will have a Note 4 in a few days.
I'm thinking about getting an AppRadio, and in order to use ARUnchained or the like on it, it looks like I might need to have SELinux be off or set to permissive, or something of that nature.
I know it's possible to do this with various kernels on the development forum, but I'm wondering what the easiest way to do this is, if I want it to be stock or as close to stock as is possible, just with permissive SELinux.
I've tried to figure this out on my own, but the closest I can find is flashing a kernel with a whole lot of other modifications, which I don't necessarily want to do at first. Anyone know of any other way, or of a kernel where there are not so many modifications?
Thanks for any help!

You can usually find a stock kernel with selinux set to permissive....i don't have it or link to it, check in Jovy's thread in development he usually posts one.

While the device is still on 4.4.4 you can use SELinuxMod Changer from the play store. It may not work once we upgrade to 5.01 though

Big thanks to everyone for the advice. I will give it a try when I receive the phone!
Hey guys, so the issue is that I have no baseband using stock kernel or AOSP-based kernel after at some point installing Perseus kernel (and doing an EFS-backup with Perseus kernel installed). Since I am forced to run Perseus kernel (or Adam kernel) this means I can't install anything newer than 4.1.2 which makes me sad. I have previously tried most (if not all) of the suggested fixes, but will try them again if suggested, so if you have an idea, don't be afraid to post it!
Honestly I don't think I've seen anyone solve this particular issue, but I haven't used my Samsung for over a year now, hoping someone has figured it out in that time. (I did search first, couldn't find anything I hadn't tried before)
Any help is appreciated.
Jesus, i don't even know what Perseus and Adam kernel are. Never seen them before.
So, no baseband with stock or AOSP, have you attempted to flash modem ?

I do believe there is a firmware which has an updated efs version.. Just not sure what it is. If you can have a search for it try it out
