Ok, so I've used my G1 for about 2 years now and I recently upgraded to a Vibrant. Now, I want to sell my G1; however, I want to make sure every little information is off of it completely! I currently have android1.6 on with cynomod4 rooted, I was planning on upgrading to the latest cynomod and selling it fresh with that. Any suggestions?
A second question, I want to sell my G1 but do not know how much its worth. I'll be selling it with a dock (that can charge a 2nd battery) that connects to your computer, home and car charger, case, extra screen protector, USB wire, 2gb or 4gb card(dont remember size), and that wire that allows you to connect headphones through the miniUSB plug. Obviously the phone will (hopefully) have latest rooted cynomod with android2.2. Any suggestions?
Thanks

cliff; how do you wipe EVERYTHING off a G1 (including backups, etc) and how much can I sell mine for?
Haha I just posted a very similar thread under this one. I'm trying to do the same but instead of selling it with root I want to make it stock again.
As for price, I'm selling mine for $100 with a 1GB SD Card. But that's to a friend..I see some on craigslist for 175 but thats up to you. Sucks though cause I bought it for 450 when it first came out
But you should sell yours for over 200 since it has all those accessories..
thanks for the quick reply,
Its not illegal to sell it rooted, right?
Whats worth more? rooted i would assume
No problem!
No it's not illegal to sell it rooted, unless it has cracked and stolen apps (i.e. downloading apps through Web sites and not paying for them). But it depends on the person you sell it to. Someone might complain that it's rooted because they may think it's "bad" or they just simply don't know how to manage a rooted phone.
I don't think it really matters if it's rooted or not, price-wise. I'm selling mine to my friend and he doesn't know anything about phones so that's why I'm making it stock for him.
Perhaps someone who knows about root and wants a rooted phone will be willing to dish out a few extra bucks for the latest CMMod with 2.2.
Very true, what should I do to make sure I deleted everything off of the phone?
Is formatting the sdcard and upgrading to the latest cm enough?
Uhh, that I'm not sure of. I haven't played with my G1 in almost a year.. so I kind of forgot everything. That is my question too..how to wipe everything. Maybe upgrade to the latest and then factory reset the phone? Not sure if that will mess up anything though.. and then just check the SD card and delete what ever you want. Cause you'll need Apps2SD.. if that still exists haha.
But you should probably wait for other people to reply.

You can flash the dreamimg.nbh to the g1 to bring it back on to stock and it will remove every setting on it. It will be like a new phone from factory. It will be on Android 1.1, but the OTA will hit soon to upgrade it to 1.6.
Here is the thread..Unroot Phone
If you want to wipe out every trace of personal information from the device, you need to go to a console in recovery mode and dd the userdata and cache partitions over with 0's...
First mount your cache and userdata partitions, then
dd if=/dev/zero of=/cache/zerofile; dd if=/dev/zero of=/data/zerofile; sync; rm -f /cache/zerofile /data/zerofile; sync
Recovery mode is where you install the update.zip?
how do i mount from there, using the console as well?
do you know the commands?
how do i know which partition i need to mount?
the SD card in the phone is formatted if that has anything to do with it.
after that i need to execute those 4 commands?
will i lose root?
thank you

Restoring the phone using the fastboot method will restore the phone as if you just took the phone out of the box and will disable root. If you want to re-enable root you would have to go through the steps again.
Fastboot restore:
Pressing and holding Camera button then pressing power until you get to a rainbow screen. Have DREAIMG.nbh on the root of your SD card. Follow the on screen directions and after its done you've restored to stock.

I'm having some real issues it seems. I recently rooted my g1 about 2 weeks ago I'm running jf 1.5.1. My problem is that as soon as I rooted my phone I started to get all kinds of messages on my phone about my apps not responding no matter what I was doing, even apps I wasn't using the one i get the most is for bugreport. then last night when I was doing some stuff on my computer while I was charging my g1 with the usb, I made the most retard mistake ever when I set my comp to sleep I forgot I was charging and I didn't eject. Now when ever i try to use my phone for more then a call or a text Its crashes to the boot screen with the G1 symbol and then restarts. And yes this also damaged my Sd card, I reformatted it last night and it was fine then this morning when it crashed again It said my sd card was damged and i need to reformat it again, I figured **** it I will buy a new one, a much better one then I had before because I run swapper so I figure that swapper had something to do with it bricking my sd card
as you can probably tell from reading this I am new to this rooting stuff and I really just want it to work right If you need more information just tell me I will gladly do anything I possible can to have my phone work smoothly again, I reside in Las vegas If any one is from there that is willing to help me I will gladly even bring it to you.
Thank you for your time.

do a wipe and flash a new rom
So basicly just re root the phone? If I do this can you tell me what I will lose in my phone? also will this completely fix my problem or is my actual phone damgaged?
will this also fix my sd?
bump bump bump
You don't have to reroot. Just get another rom or reflash the same rom and see if it still happens.
Just wipe and reflash..
however I like your idea better, buy a new G1 and send me your old on, everyone wins!
So I wiped my G1 and flashed Jf 1.5.1 abd1 onto it again and it seems to be working fine again, can any one tell me if there was a better choice then the jf rom? So know that I'm basicly back to square one,can any one point me to a thread or site that will tell me how to get the most out of it both app wise and performance wise.
thanks for the help from ever one who posted,I think I'll be stick'n to this forum for all of my android related questions, " oh **** do I hear dontation"!!!!

I guess maybe you missed the whole development section?
Had a perfectly working phone up until 8 hours ago. Driving home from the bar and my phone randomly reboots. Wouldn't turn on till I removed the battery and tried again. In a 30 minute drive this happened 3 times.
@ Home phone rebooted another 3 times before I just left it plugged into the charger, didn't touch it or try to change anything.
Everything went well through the morning, till I decided to perform a nandroid backup, and wipe my SD card. Rebooted to recovery and now my phone couldn't detect an installed SD.
Powered down the phone. Inserted a different card thinking the previous one was corrupt or something. Still not detecting it.
Currently, phone does not detect any SD cards, Home button does not work, unable to connect to a wireless network (airplane mode will not turn off), no market app installed, lockscreen is not showing (just goes straight to home screen).
I was running SuperE 1.0.3 before, and settings still shows the same.
Comments? Suggestions? Criticism?
Awesome. 65 views and nothing. Android is a great OS for a phone, but their support group sucks.
At least apple has the courtesy to say "hey, you're screwed unless you wanna pay $400 for a new phone."
Hey your screwed unless you wanna pay 400 for a new phone did you try to put your sd card into the computer and format to fat 32 yet? does your computer see your sd card for starters?

Does this look like GOOGLE or HTC to you?
Sorry no. Nobody's paying anyone here to help you fix your failures.
If you have a warranty issue, please contact HTC first (they are the ones responsible for your phone), GOOGLE second (though I doubt this is an OS issue -- more likely a hardware or user issue).
If you want community help, ASK NICELY. Nobody's going to go out of their way to help out a DOUCHEBAG with an overinflated sense of entitlement.
Um you just pissed off the guy that knows probably how to fix your phone more than anybody!!!! Not good!!!!

Computer can read my sd card, no problem. It won't, however, recognize my G1 when its plugged in via usb. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the correct drivers with no effect.
I know its not the usb ports, I used them to format the sd cards with an adapter, and its not my usb cable, had a friend test them with his G1.
After going in through settings and doing a Factory Reset, I've been able to connect to my network, but that's the only improvement.
On the plus side, my phone has never run faster.

Thanks for judging me as a person based on a thread. You seem like a douchebag as well, and pretty full of yourself. We should be buds.
My nook was rooted and I was happily using it for about 3 weeks.
It was a ver. 1.0.0 model.
One night I went to turn it on and it wouldnt come on. I thought somehow the battery must have drained out. I plugged it in when I got home, but after a while I tried to start it and it still wouldnt.
What I have noticed is that the backlight comes on, changes intesity a couple times, goes off and then comes back on, like some sort of loop.
There is no message screen or N screen. There is no booting from SD, as far as everything I've tried to burn to SD and boot from.
I've tried all the key combos, some result in different variations of the backlight sequence but nothing else.
I think it is caught in some sort of loop before looking for any bootable system.
I want to try everything I (and everyone else) can think of before I go to the trouble of shipping it back to B&N.
Can you put the original stock system on an SD, even though I doubt it would boot from that either, but just a thought.
Thanks,
Phil
Looks like you are going to be enrolling in the NC advanced class. I really can't help on this but this weekend I plan one doing a the group install internally and I should be knowledgable afterwards.
Start by looking into creating the froyo image one a sdcard. There is a thread. The NC should be able to boot from that card. If it does great. Now look for thread about recovering images and using dd to write images. Someone did post the stock images 1.01
have you tried booting Nookie Froyo through an SD card? Then you could probably flash a stock rom (zip is in the forums) and restore.
Froyo
Yeah, I have Froyo on an SD card right now. Doesnt make a difference.
I have pretty much run out of things to try, unless there is some new, secret key combo that fixes everything.
I really don't think its even getting to the OS, I think I must have some real hardware failure that has nothing to do with the stock or rooted OS.
Sounds like it may be time for a warranty claim...

i agree, if its not even getting to the point where it can boot from sd then theres nothing that i can think of that will work, at the point your at i dont think it can recognize any button input or usb data as there literally is nothing it knows how to do
Is this possibly the first successful Bricking?
I hope not!! Keep us posted on what works and what doesn't work.
Good luck, mate.
Cheers!
Received new Nook Color.
Well I did a warranty claim.
It was a very long wait on the B&N help line. I hung up and used the online chat window. That was a very long wait as well, about 25 minutes, but I finally got through.
After explaining all the things I tried and what the nook was doing, she wanted me to hold the power button for 10 seconds. I was like, "Ok, I've tried holding it for several minutes at a time, several hundred times, but what the hell." Then she wanted to know if I dropped it or not. Mine was pristine though, not even a scratch.
So finally she said I qualified for a replacement.
The deal is they give you a ups shipping label and they ship you a new Nook. If they determine that your nook got wrecked because of your own stupidity or whatever they bill you for the new one. She said the new one would ship the next day, but it didn't ship for over a week. I shipped mine the next day with the label they sent me.
So now finally I have my new nook. I haven't rooted it yet, though I probably will. I don't believe my problem was ever related to the software things I did, I dont believe that could wreck the hardware.
Also I never mentioned rooting it or anything.
Did you try burning CWR onto a SD card and seeing if it boots?
So, last night, I had a bit to drink and apparently threw my phone, according to my friends, and the screen is completely broke. I have my phone rooted, so I just want to make sure...i should probably put it back to stock software before i replace it, right?
it still works besides the screen, and i know i can probably get it into download mode, because the button combos work for me.
another question, once i flash back to stock, would i have to do a master clear as well? im just trying to not void my warranty.
Im not sure about the master clear question but I do know that you would need to return to stock or at least the 2.2 Froyo upgrade. If you cant get the warranty to work your looking at spending about 200$ to replace the glass and digitizer.

yeah, im really hoping that i dont have to go the screen replacement route. hopefully this works and i can just spend the 120 for the insurance replacement. i just dont want to return it today and have them contact me later and screw me with a full phone replacement price...although i probably deserve the $530 or so that it is. haha.
ok, just flashed it back to stock, worked perfectly thank god. attempting a master clear now...not sure if this will work...started it and odin seems to be stuck on just the 'master clear started' line.
edit*** master clear isnt working, so does anybody know the set of files/ folders that are on the phone when it is freshly master cleared? i just dont want to leave anything on there that would let them know i rooted and flashed stuff. i can access the root of my phone on my computer, so i just would like to know which files i should have...anybody know this by chance? i have the following files:Android, bluetooth, data, DCIM, download, downloads, external_sd, LOST.DIR, media, and mirenbrowser
for some reason it wont let me delete mirenbrowser, but that shouldnt matter at all.
hey if it stays stuck at that screen then just take it back to the store and tell them thats whats caused you to throw it

haha, i wish i knew why i threw it. and my phone didnt get stuck at all, just odin didnt work. probably dont have the right usb settings, and theres no way of changing those with how my screen looks. oh well. last time i replaced my phone i returned one with a bunch of files from custom roms, and didnt have an issue, so i think ill be fine.
If u think u will be fine. Why post this question?

I sent in a warranty exchange with a cracked screen while on a custom rom. Who cares, you are paying for the replacement, only thing that sucks is personal info left on phone

When you master clear make sure to follow these steps exactly:
Open Odin > Put phone into USB Debug Mode > Plug Phone into computer via USB > Click Master Clear
If that doesn't work, simply go to the phone and follow this:
Settings > Privacy > Factory Data Reset
Or try this:
Go into Recovery Mode (Turn phone off completely > Hold Power + Up and Down Volume Keys > Wait for phone to go through first screen cycle, and when the AT&T Screen comes up again, release the power button, while still holding the volumes keys until you reach recovery mode) Then choose "wipe factory data/factory reset" (it should be something like that) by moving up and down with the volume keys and select it with the power key.
Also, I broke my screen too (the same way sadly... ) but I found a replacement on Ebay for about $100. And it was one of the EASIEST replacements ever. There are videos on youtube, etc. Here is the cheapest I found on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/LCD-Digitizer-screen-at-t-Samsung-Captivate-i897-/250791260919?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a6452f2f7
I think I posted this in the wrong forum earlier. I currently have a Galaxy S4 and looked at the nexus 6 if I have to buy a sealed phone vs the new galaxy. Since everything is internal when making a nandroid do I need to transfer the nandroid to a computer then wipe? If I wipe the phone then how do I flash a new ROM if the internal is wiped ? Nandroid... Ok..... Then transfer is my guess to computer..... Then wipe then flash.... Except the internal is wiped.
Everything you flash a new ROM do you have to back up and transfer everything to the computer?
With the galaxy s4 I would just wipe the phone then load off the SD card slot.
Depending on what you wipe, and how you wipe, the data on your sdcard can be saved on the Nexus. For example, in a custom recovery, TWRP in the N6's case by default a factory reset doesn't wipe the sdcard.
^^ exactly.
TWRP knows what it should and shouldn't wipe. Unless you do it manually you won't lose the nandroid.
Plus, I've had a lot of issues transferring nandroid to a PC or SD card prior to the Nexus and have them work after the transfer.

I saw there is a Nexus Root tool kit by wug. Do you use this to back up your phone or do you still do it in TWRP ? When you back up a nandroid, are you completely backing up everything (photos, music, etc), then it is kept in a side partition "sdcard" that you were describing and the rest of the phone is wiped ? Prior with the Galaxy S4, the custom recovery (I used CWM) would wipe the entire internal phone and anything not on the MicroSD card was wiped.
Right now my MicroSD card is 32GB and is nearly half full.
You CAN use Wugs (and since you have 16+GB of stuff, I would) - otherwise a single nandroid would pretty much fill your phone.
Or... Dont keep as much stuff on your phone if you're planning on using testing out roms.

How do you usually manage your nandroid back ups and content like photos/music/etc ? Cloud or transfer to PC ? Does Wugs make nandroids directly to the PC so it's not eating up internal space ?
Typically when I nandroid I transfer it to my pc as it takes up way to much space on a 32gig phone.

I transfer pics/videos from my phone to my PC or private cloud on a regular basis - every other day or so. That way, should I take a video thats, lets say, 5-8 minutes long or longer, that is a lot of space, so I upload it when I get the chance and then remove it from my phone.
I dont include pics/videos/music in the nandroid as I can always put back what I want upon restoring it. No need for a senselessly large nandroid.
Same for anything else. I have 64 Gig because sometimes I go on vacations that are 2-4 weeks - and I take a s*** load of pics/video in that time. I would EASILY fill my phone in a week, that's why I never keep all of my s*** in ONE place, especially on my phone - which can quite easily be destroyed - and no possible method of getting that back. So I just dont chance it. I learned that on a cruize in the southern Caribbean - had a S4 at the time, with a 64GB card and maybe 40GB of video and pics of the first week all saved up, one night we were playing putt-putt on the deck - some drunk prick stumbled into me as I was taking a pic of my wife - over the glass wall it went. Into the ocean. Gone like a snowball in hell.
So... no, I dont keep much of anything on it without having it somewhere else also.

The current one Sprint holds is only 32GB although I may see what the new release is. I reviewed the unlocking of the bootloader and installing custom recovery. It is much easier than having to do it via ODIN for the S4. I am assuming that default the nandroid backs up everything by default unless you uncheck it otherwise ? I'm using google+ right now. What cloud servers do you use as an alternative ?
