So, last night, I had a bit to drink and apparently threw my phone, according to my friends, and the screen is completely broke. I have my phone rooted, so I just want to make sure...i should probably put it back to stock software before i replace it, right?
it still works besides the screen, and i know i can probably get it into download mode, because the button combos work for me.
another question, once i flash back to stock, would i have to do a master clear as well? im just trying to not void my warranty.
Im not sure about the master clear question but I do know that you would need to return to stock or at least the 2.2 Froyo upgrade. If you cant get the warranty to work your looking at spending about 200$ to replace the glass and digitizer.

yeah, im really hoping that i dont have to go the screen replacement route. hopefully this works and i can just spend the 120 for the insurance replacement. i just dont want to return it today and have them contact me later and screw me with a full phone replacement price...although i probably deserve the $530 or so that it is. haha.
ok, just flashed it back to stock, worked perfectly thank god. attempting a master clear now...not sure if this will work...started it and odin seems to be stuck on just the 'master clear started' line.
edit*** master clear isnt working, so does anybody know the set of files/ folders that are on the phone when it is freshly master cleared? i just dont want to leave anything on there that would let them know i rooted and flashed stuff. i can access the root of my phone on my computer, so i just would like to know which files i should have...anybody know this by chance? i have the following files:Android, bluetooth, data, DCIM, download, downloads, external_sd, LOST.DIR, media, and mirenbrowser
for some reason it wont let me delete mirenbrowser, but that shouldnt matter at all.
hey if it stays stuck at that screen then just take it back to the store and tell them thats whats caused you to throw it

haha, i wish i knew why i threw it. and my phone didnt get stuck at all, just odin didnt work. probably dont have the right usb settings, and theres no way of changing those with how my screen looks. oh well. last time i replaced my phone i returned one with a bunch of files from custom roms, and didnt have an issue, so i think ill be fine.
If u think u will be fine. Why post this question?

If you are making a warranty claim and paying the $125, why don't you just say you lost the phone?
I sent in a warranty exchange with a cracked screen while on a custom rom. Who cares, you are paying for the replacement, only thing that sucks is personal info left on phone

When you master clear make sure to follow these steps exactly:
Open Odin > Put phone into USB Debug Mode > Plug Phone into computer via USB > Click Master Clear
If that doesn't work, simply go to the phone and follow this:
Settings > Privacy > Factory Data Reset
Or try this:
Go into Recovery Mode (Turn phone off completely > Hold Power + Up and Down Volume Keys > Wait for phone to go through first screen cycle, and when the AT&T Screen comes up again, release the power button, while still holding the volumes keys until you reach recovery mode) Then choose "wipe factory data/factory reset" (it should be something like that) by moving up and down with the volume keys and select it with the power key.
Also, I broke my screen too (the same way sadly... ) but I found a replacement on Ebay for about $100. And it was one of the EASIEST replacements ever. There are videos on youtube, etc. Here is the cheapest I found on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/LCD-Digitizer-screen-at-t-Samsung-Captivate-i897-/250791260919?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a6452f2f7

Recently rooted my G1 this week and installed cyanogen mod. everything's good.
I saw some cool themes and tried to install em. didn't work so just restored my back up.
Then i read that i have to be on RC30 to use the theme. I followed this guide:
http://www.intomobile.com/2008/11/1...on-your-t-mobile-g1-and-keep-root-access.html
phone gets stuck at tmobile G1 splash screen. i think hey, no prob, ill just go back to recovery and restore my back up again. take out, put in battery. home+power... uhh that's not working. even tried pressing the power+camera buttons. pressing the call+menu+end button isn't even rebooting it..
this... really sucks. is there ANYTHING i can do to fix this? maybe through adb or something? i have nandroid files backed up my computer too if that helps

There is something you can do 2 legal and 2 illegal
1) You could steal someone elses phone
2) You could buy a new phone
3) You could switch the motherboard out from another (non-bricked) G1 into your phone
And 4) You could breAk into HTC HQ and steal the machine they used to originally flash your phone with, connect it to your phone's JTAG' points and flash. Thisnis the most risky and most expensive because you ARE stealing, you ARE going to get sued, BUT you will have your phone back

Hey all,
I have to send my phone back on insurance. However, the screen is jacked. It got a crack on the inside (no cracks on outer glass or dings on the phone itself - really weird). I can only see a small portion of the screen - the rest is all black.
I'm currently running Perception and I'd like to get it back to stock and do a master clear. Getting it back to stock shouldn't be an issue, but the master clear might be as I'm not sure how I can get it back into USB debugging mode to do a wipe since I can't see enough of the screen to do it.
Is there a way I can have the output display on my laptop, like in the screen shots, or anything like that? Replacement should be here tomorrow.
Thanks!
Super
Same thing happened to me. Why worry about stock? You are paying $125 for the ins claim. You are not filing warranty
Fine enough, but I'd still like my personal data wiped off of it.
Yea, had same concern, not sure how to go about it though

Though I would have just told them I lost it.
Okay, I have an idea. This may work if you can at least get into download mode.
Use Odin to flash back to stock with wipe data. (3 button) Then it should be bone stock minus that your internal SD will still have your stuff on it. Then when stock with the usb connected and powered on, the phone should go to default USB setting and connect to the computer when inserted. Maybe you can delete the internal SD data in there.
Let me know if this works.
The following command should do a hard reset by launching the dialer and dialing the code from a command line if you can adb shell into the phone.
am start -a android.intent.action.MAIN -n com.sec.android.app.dialertab/.DialerTabActivity -a android.intent.action.DIAL -d tel:*2767*3855%23
The factory reset code would, I believe, be: *%23*%237780%23*%23*
Warning, I don't know if you will be asked for confirmation before the action is taken. If I recall, the hard reset doesn't ask.

Well, i just hard bricked my phone...
What is the warranty process? I bought my phone from futureshop but its in contract with rogers.
Do i call rogers to replace my phone or do i call futureshop?
Thanks!
Also, what sort of excuse would i give?
First.are u sure. U hard bricked?

That sounds pretty bricked. You could try a jig. However, as long as you haven't done anything to void the warranty (root, flash a new rom/kernel/modem), and you don't need a phone for a few days, go ahead and get a replacement. It's a safer bet. Go to futureshop, and ask if they can replace the phone. Make sure you have receipt, warranty info, etc., and if they can't replace it for you, they should direct you to Rogers.
Good luck!

Erk, its been rooted, flashed and practically everything. If i just play dumb and say i dropped it. Would that work?
Play dumb anyway, but they fix phones all day they aren't gonna take the time to go through every single one and make sure it isn't rooted. Plus they have to take it apart and flash it to fix it ... Thus getting rid of the evidence.
You'll be ok.
Thanks!

hey so i have a Samsung captivate and i just installed continuum v5.5 but every time to turn off my phone all my apps get erased. what can i do about that?
You flash the rom from cwm 2.5? That's my guess...
Try reflashing from where there. With talon kernel that has cwm 3.

im sorry but im really new to this and i have no idea what that means. All i have one is install the new package and now when i turn off my phone all my apps that i downloaded from the market get erased.
What you were on before you flashed that?
Anyway...from where you are now just boot into recovery
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache
Go into advanced and wipe dalvik cache
Then reflash the rom.
umm for some reason i cant get into recovery mode.........haha any tips on that first
Turn off the phone. Hold volume up and power...that should do it
The extended power menu while it's on...
Or adb...
I have been trying those. none work, all that show up is a white screen that have AT&t and that says world phone. what should i do?
wait up!! AT&T screen?? FOUND THE PROBLEM!!!!!! although i have no idea how you have been able to boot at all... you still have stock eclair/froyo bootloaders. thats a gingerbread rom requiring updated bootloaders..so how it even got into the os is confusing me?
use this:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=995143
then take a few days and READ!!! you skipped a HUGE step.
Im so confused now. it just stopped working? when i turn on my phone all that shows up is the AT&T world globe thingy and i cant get farther then that. I tired clicking the power and volume buttons but im just stick on the globe thing. is my phone like broken now??

no. if it comes on its not broken.
what you need to do is pull the battery...and leave it off. come back to the forums and after you have spent several hours READING up on what exactly you are doing to your phone THEN you will have the knowledge to fix your phone.
this **** shouldnt be taken so lightly if you have literally no idea what you are doing.
yaaaaa i think im going to be done with all the rooting thing in till ive learned more about it. But is their a way to get it back to the way that i bought it.?
Yeah you just put it into download mode and use odin one click
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
This is a perfect example of why I ask that everyone to spend at least a day learning about what they are doing before doing it. Flashing a Rom to your device has some very major side effects if even one step is done wrong.
I tried to put it in download mode. it doesn't work, my phone will turn on and off but will just sit in the start up screen but thats all that it will do?
You will need a jig to force download mode.
Go to mobiletechvideos.com he has a video on how to make one actually heres the link to that video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rdn5GoRjhn0... if you can't get yours to work or think it might be to difficult after watching the video he also sells them pre made for under 10 us dollars.
There are also quite a lot of useful videos for beginners to watch and learn about what you're doing.http://mobiletechvideos.com/blog/?page_id=31 that whole page is worth a look...
so theirs no other way to get the phone back to normal? If their isn't anther way to get it back to normal then can i just call AT&T to send me anther phone because this phone is only 3 days old??
thats what all of my posts have been trying to do. get you to normal.
especially the ones WITH LINKS!!
yaa ik, sorry what i was trying to say was that is their any other ways to get the phone into download mode that doesn't take making that JIG?
with phone off try holding both volumes and inserting the usb cable thats connected to your pc.
or take out the battery, plug it in and hold the volume buttons, then with the buttons still held indert the battery.
if those dont work the jig will. its easy to make...or if you cant manage its cheap to buy...
what is it with people so resistant to trying to make/buy a jig? both ways its under 10 bucks, and that beats the hell out of not having a phone, and the frustration of trying everything else before you get around to a jig. make/buy one now you will have it for future use. its never not handy to have. i made one before i flashed anything so i would have an out if it went bad.
Okay well thanks to everyone who helped, im going to try to make the jig thingy but if i can't make that then im just going to throw it against a wall and use the insurance to get a new one. thanks though
Hello everyone. Im having this really odd issue where the phone wont power off. I press and hold the power button down, and choose "POWER OFF" and it does the animation of powering off, then it goes dark....then in about 2-3 seconds it powers back on. Now i do have Fast Boot unchecked. Im also rooted and running the Dev edition of the HTC One. If i boot into recovery and choose the option to shutdown, it still reboots on its own. Very odd. Anyone care to help me out? Thanks
seems like cache error. try to clear cache in recovery.. if nothing happens .. clear data .. . yup then you will lose all data. but u will get into system atleast

Yea. But im having a bit of an issue even with that. I consider myself a seasoned vet at this kind of stuff, but seem to be having a hard time with it. I tried to flash the RUU and it failed about 25% thru it, and now im at an HTC logo with exclamation signs on each corner. Kind of at a loss...but ill keep in screwing with it.
ok, so i reverted back to stock using the RUU and it STILL DOESNT TURN OFF!! I dont know what to do anymore. Faulty hardware? Kind of weird when everything else works fine.

Nothng else you can do on your end. You've done it all. Tell them you installed the ruu and that didnt work. If its from a carrier, ATT, t-mobile.. Just take it to a corporate store, they should replace it. If its a Dev edition, gotta send it in. For me it wouldnt be much of an issue because i never turn my phones off.. But if you do turn them off, this is a major issue lol. They should replace it no problem.

Yea it is a developer edition phone. Ive done evrerything i can think of and i think i may need to send it in. What sucks is that i have already added my zagg on the back and added an SGP screen protector and i would hate to waste them. I also normally dont turn my phone off (if ever) but i dont want to end up with more hardware issues down the line. Im contemplating sending it back to HTC and ordering the Google edition when that is available..but im kind of happy with it as is. I have HTC on the phone now...lets see what they say. At this point im kind of curious as to why its doing this.
