[Q] Hello - Touch Diamond2, Pure Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How can I removed pre existing applications to make Rom lighter

There really is no way to uninstall them when they're cooked into the ROM.
You can remove the links from the start menu but will likely get an error when trying to delete the .exe file. There was a program that claimed it could remove cooked in apps but I do not remember the name, sorry. Maybe you can find it in a search on XDA.

Removing unwanted ROM Programs

Ihave treid searching to no avail... is there a way for the average Joe to remove some of the unwanted programs from ROM... Like powerpoint excel and a few others... Please let me know it would seriuosly help me out...
Dream
No. You would have to edit the rom on a desktop computer and then reflash it to your device... There are software available for this if you want to give it a try. Check out the development section.
There is no way to do so...
if you don't want them to show up in your start menu, then just remove their links from /windows/Start menu

Cabs Installtion giving Error

Whenever I try to instal Cabs file, it give error...........The file cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore this file.........
These same cabs file were working fine till yesterday. Dont know what could have gone wrong. (Cingular 8125). I tried to browse to Extended ROM folder in Total Commander....but didnt delete any file there. However, when i again try to browse the Extended wrong, it shows many file names as garbage.
Otherwise my WIZARD is working fine. Activesync Apps are getting installed on my Wizard
Can someone guide me how i can get cabs files working again?
Error in Cabs Installation
Infact all the folders in 'Extended Rom' in Total Commander show names as junk characters. However, all file names are Ok.
So what are you trying to install and you say about the ext_rom!!! What file you trying to do?
Cabs Inst not working
I was just playing around and wanted to check if i can add new apps to Ext_ROM. I dont think i did any damage to it. But now i see that Cabs on my phone are not getting installed, and there are many folders in EXT_ROM, with junk names.

Did you cook your own Ext_rom??? Well if you did that means that it has been got damaged some how! I would flash it again and if you have the same problems i would go back to a pre cooked ext-rom and then try again!
I have loaded new ext rom. However, error still appears whenever I click to open a .cab file.
Any suggestions what I can do?

Removing apps from stock rom (not through a kitchen)

I have a stock HTC Touch Diamond. I am wanting to remove the apps I don't use like Messenger and some others. I tried through ActiveSync but because they are built into the ROM they do not show up. Is there an app or something I can use to remove these?
Thanks

SKTools will allow you to remove apps that are installed on your device that don't show up in the Remove Programs part of Settings.
Also, you could hard reset your device and soft reset before customizations run and then install only the apps that you want.
Or, use activesync and browse to Windows-Start Menu-Programs and delete the program shortcuts that you don't want to see. Though with this option all you are doing is removing the program shortcut the program files are still there.
I tried SKTools but under the installed programs section it only shows the ones I have installed. I wanted to remove the likes of WLM, YouTube etc. I ripped all the ROM data (following one of the tutorials, so I have 4 RAW files but not sure how to combine them back to an NBH file so I can edit them in a kitchen to remove what I don't want.)
Ok well I managed to reconstruct the ROM but I have no idea how successful I actually was at doing such. I followed the steps here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=337066. I really want to put this ROM on the phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=622093 but I am afraid that if I screw up the flashing and my reconstructing of the stock ROM didn't work that I would be screwed. Any suggestions? Also my provider doesn't make the ROM available and neither does HTC (for Rogers that is).
In SKTools if you go to the Installed Programs Section click on the right softkey and select settings.
Then scroll down to "Show Applications Not Listed As Installed." Change the setting to Yes.
Maybe then you can remove what you want.
Also, you can use the Move Data part to move files, folders, and applications to Internal Storage to free up space.
Believe it or not but that is not an option under settings that will show Applications not listed as Installed... running SKTools 4.5.1.4.
Scratch that. I found it

[question] Cooking installed app into rom

Hello folks,
what I want to accomplish is to create perfect image of all apps and settings I have already in phone and create a rom from it, so I can distribute all the actual settings to more phones and the settings will also survive hard reset.
I read some tutorials on cooking roms and it seemed too difficult, so I just wondered if there is a utility, that could create a rom from what is installed at the moment. Or if there is some utility, that allows me to just extract settings from applications, put it together with cab files from that apps, also some rom and cook it all together.
I dont need to make any changes to the rom, just preinstall and preconfigure some apps.
Thanks for your replies. If you know about somethink that could be helpful, please add link and maybe some quick steps.

as your motivation is to preserve (and pass to other phones) a fixed set of installed apps and customized settings on a static rom, that should exactly do the trick for you, yes

Removing apps from ROM

Is it possible to remove some of the apps installed along wth the ROM, as they don't show in remove programs. Or is it as simple as deleting the program folder, or will that leave crud behind?

You cannot remove the apps as they are written into the rom. You can remove the icons from the start menu and they will not show. Or you can delete the program folder from from the /windows directory. However both of these options will leave program files behind.
Secondly, in the future please post in the correct forum. Your post has nothing to do with rom development and starting new threads in the rom development forum just to ask questions, just clutters up the forum.
All questions, unless asked in a specific rom thread, belong in the general forum.
Moved as not ROM Dev.
There is a tool search ROM Editor but it's not great so many dependancies to remove with sofrware, never used it myself as just like denco7 said you can hide shortcuts etc and use storage card except on system load events.
