Hi,
I am just wondering about debranding my Galaxy S From Orange. Unfortunately orange has loaded it with lots of crap and games which cannot be removed.
I was just wondering what the best way to do it is.
I have debranded my mrs htc desire before with a gold card, but from what i've read on here so far it doesn't seem so easy on the SGS.
Any help anyone can offer would be very appreciated.
First of all, flash it to JM1 using Kies. You may need to tweak the registry as described in the various "JPC over Kies" threads. Then root it. Then install Titanium Backup and uninstall the various apps through that.
If you upgrade to JM1 in Kies, the Orange crap is removed anyway, so there's no need to root. My phone came with all those annoying apps (and really cheap looking games like Brick Breaker and Bejewelled), and upgrading to JM1 removed these apps
You can try sgs tools (search it in this forum) it even allows you to remove samsung apps
Yeah I'm pretty sure if you update via Kies or flash a new firmware with Odin that all the branding will be removed...

I've just rooted with one click and installed sgs tools.
It lets me remove some of the games, but there is still a fair bit of custom crap it doesn't see.
I'm learning how to flash with kies now so i'll do it that way.
Damn orange!

Yeah I know like the orange coloured internet icon
But like everyone has said if you just update to one of the new firmwares it is unbranded..
Quick question regarding the debranding of the galaxy s! i have 3br disabled on my galaxy! Is your handset the same? i'd love debrand this baby and do all the funky stuff everybody else seems to! just wondering if you were in the same boat as me before the update and if now you have updated the 3br is now available.
Many thanks for your responce

Don't go around screwing with something thats working fine! just install the "one click lag fix" thats on the market and wait for Froyo for Africa! TRUST ME , otherwise you will come here *****ing about lack of market/arabic/no download mode etc.. I bet that you will break your phone. Also download the root app from market too. Makes EVERYTHING easier

There have been people here who were adventurous enough to go ahead & flsh their phones to whatever they wanted. A few of them got their phones BRICKED. Cant to ahead, cant go back, STUCK. They went & complained at the service centers that they were trying to update via Kies, the official Samsing software & god knows what went wrong, its BRICKED. I think they ended up convincing them. Well, tjis is the gist of what I have learned from the forums, its your call, you take it. I am from Hubli, Karnataka, India. I hated the stock ROM, updated to JG4 via Kies, Hated it, Updated to JPC, Loved it, Updated to JPH, aahhh, beautiful.
There's a thread here that points to the Stock DDJG4 ROM for India if you want to revert back.

Like I said guys, its YOUR CALL.
PS : JPC & JPH are Betas & 23rd is the date set for official Froyo release.
hi praneeth.. nenu update chesanu .. its safe .. dont worry.. update to JG4 and i will provide u rooted rom which is suitable for us... and i will also provide unroot rom which gives us our warranty back. so dont worry...............

Guys, I am from Bangalore and living with JG4. I havent applied any lagfix or GPS fix.
I am generally happy with JG4 but yea, havent seen a offical update in a while.
I am rooted: Search for 1-click Root/Unroot for Galaxy S
With a click you can root yourself and can unroot too - for warranty reasons.
Never observed a lag as such but I use AutoKiller Memory. Keeps my phone smooth; no lags.Try the aggressive setting.
GPS works good, fix is fast and position perfect. I use Google Navigation [BRUT], yes you can use the US Google navigation here in India with spoken street names - hows that. Recently I did a Bangalore - Pondicherry drive just on Google Navigation and it was awesome. I had all internal village roads mapped and navigated me through it. As you already know, the stock official Google Navigation doesnt work.

KingHarsha - here you go
Search 'brut google maps 4.4' in google. Use the first link to load BRUT versions while keeping your stock google maps and navigation versions. Use the Stockified versions if you want to replace teh stock ones. I didnt do that, and I am comfortable with BRUT versions sitting near the stock ones.
No you have to pay data charges. But seeing that you are on this phone, I guess you already have data enabled on your PC. And yea you stay in chennai, so definitely you have 3G as well. I switched to dreaded BSNL just to get 3G services.
But dont worry abt data too much. Surprisingly it doesnt uze that much. If you have wifi at home, just setup your flightplan and it will download tiles along your way. tiles are big enough so if you detour or so, you are still within the downloaded area. U need to enable cache in brut menu.
Personally, I dont use the voice directions in city. It doesnt give instructions but it says a sentence. thats too much to decode while driving. But that problem exists in original sw as well. I kept it on during my roadtrip and I had great experience. First thing you will notice is that its smooth, your car doesnt update in jumps or maps dont move in jumps, they just smoothly rotate or move. Alternate routes, layers on teh way...its all there and its great.
Best part is oneways etc gets updated frequently and automatically since u connect to the cloud. When a flyover construction started, within a month it started routing me with the official detour posted on the road by traffic authorities. So thats great.
Well, thats my experience though.
Just search for 'one click root unroot galaxy S' on this forum. Not sure if it will work for you since you are already rooted.
Guys,
Looks like i am taking the dive and installing lagfix. I see 2 options - oneclick lay fix, or cflagfix.
Do you guys recommend any one of these?
Also in cant so 3buttons recovery and need to do that using clockmod's reboot to recovery option. Song if things don't work while Installation in will have to use odin only to reflash ddjg4. Something in have never done.
Song in was thinking of following sequence titanium backup - clockmod backup- odin reflash ddjg4 - install oneclick root - install oneclick lagfix / cflagfix - titanium restore.
If things break while installation of lagfix like in have seen phone not rebooting for many after installation of fix, then abort and reflash ddjg4 again.
Plz send in your comments. Any better way to do this. You can also say dont be so scared as you might have guessed i am sh$%the scared to do this and gathering my guts right now.

any advice would be helpful as im kind of new to it all and i love my new phone and would hate to screw it up so soon after getting it haha.

Hi, Thanks if your reading this and answering me i really can understand what to do so ill just ask so many stupid question and see if you know some of them. so First how do i know if i have a GSM / CDMA?. Next if i got either the two one what is the best way to optimize my Tab. in a certain way that i can root/flash/rom/hack or etc. and my main concern is that if i was to return all it back like a factory restore can it be done?.
So in anyway possible help me i bought my SGT in Philippines and we get like a Open Line SGT i can use all our Telcom providers and use Different Sim Cards so i really can't tell what to do first.

You have the GSM Tab, I'm sure. CDMA is NOT very common in the Philippines, and you have a sim card slot, CDMA doesn't have this.
Also, unless your Tab was illegally imported from somewhere, you have the international version.

I recommend you try out your stock ROM first, and read heavily on these forums. Know your Tab, current firmware, etc..
Once you've decided to play around your tab's ROM, then follow these guidelines. NOTE: It is possible that you will end up with a very expensive paperweight (brick) if you make a mistake somewhere along the way. Tread carefully.
First, enter *#1234# in your phone dialer to get your Tab's firmware.
2nd: backup your data (in Kies) and apps (in Titanium Backup)
3rd: Root your device using SuperOneClick (this voids your warranty)
SuperOneClick with instructions can be found here --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
4th: Verify that your "bootloader" is not locked. Last few releases by Samsung locked the bootloader so flashing the firmware may damage or brick your Tab.
You can use Bootloader patch to check. It's here --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888071&highlight=*#1234#
Again, read carefully and follow the directions..
5th: Finally, one of the best ROMs out there is Overcome. You will find all you need here. --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932082
I suggest you print out the included instructions (in pdf). You will also find all the links to files that you need in this thread.
I cannot stress further the gravity of your decisions... .. Follow the steps carefully and faithfully..
6th: If something goes wrong (I hope not), please don't blame me.
Best of luck!
P.S.

Thanks for the warning i kinda know Bricking and doing this to Galaxy Tab is Voiding your Warranty but i was so stupid i cant tell if i am using GSM but now for what you told me GSM is a Tab that use Sim and for using my Tab now its kinda great but i wanna maximize my Tab so i can do different things and for now ill just read and read but still going to wait for more things and before i do this i am going to enjoy my Tab. Already Sold my iPad and i kinda want to know if SGT 7" is already good or ill be buying the new SGT 8.9 and 10.1 so for now thank you very much and already reading some files but wish some Filipino already tried this but i think ill do just fine i can understand some part but still need to read first and will ask again if need help. BTW are you a Filipino or ???
I'm a Filipino too.
Voiding your warranty should be no problem since you can unroot your phone back. Moreover, I'm pretty sure that you got the GSM one since as Sef pointed out, it's pretty rare for us to use a CDMA device (partly thanks to our backwards and slow internet back home).
Moreover, to optimize your device, just try the ROMs out. You should read the guides how to flash them, of course, whether you wanna use Heimdall or Odin.
Pinoy ako! Hehehe.. (Im Filipino too! LOL)
I feel the same way now about flashing.. I am confident in doing it but am still doing heavy research. Take note that some roms do not have all the features of the stock rom, and they have bugs too.
Maybe in a month or so, I`ll flash this tab and then update this thread.

Okay Thanks ill be doing it too in a few weeks or months just need to double check some details and if i make it success full ill make a guide how i did mine. wish someone in phil can make a video or guide . i keep hearing that using mod ROMs rocks. but still lets see what happen.
hi bro. im also in the phils. ive got my tab from smart for two months, and i'd say im quite satisfied with the stock rom. with all the posts i read from various threads regarding problems in installing custom roms (the latest, also here, regarding overcome sucking the tab's batt), im not fully convinced to try it. my two cents: why fix something that is not broken?
ive had my sonyericsson xperia x8 also for quite sometime now, and flashing it is much less complicated than doing it in the tab. i simply cant risk bricking my tab!
also,a wk ago i had my tab repaired in samsung head office because of dim display. they replaced the lcd even if my tab is already rooted. so rooting i think doesnt make you lose your warranty! they even upgraded my firmware. love the new date, time and weather widgets.
i will just wait for the gingerbread upgrade this may!

Hello. You can download the Original Stock ROM from Sammobile. Note down your Build Number which you can find Under Settings->Phone Info. Then head to sammobile and search for your Version, and download it. Beware that updating to lollipop, your baseband and Bootloader will change. You will also need the BL and Baseband for Kitkat, which you can find here on XDA,there is a collection just search for it
I know about that.
I've done it using Odin on my Samsung ACE2, but found different from original ROM!
One time I've upgraded to version 4.1.2 and it was so slow, that I had to downgrade again.
Just found Russian ROM to downgrade and it's a little different from my country.
If there is no option, so I will let the S5 go to Lollipop!
Let see if I don't get Camera problems, GSM or Wi-Fi.
I will cross fingers!!!
thank anyway
Already let my phone to update to Lollipop and.....
1st impact..... I DON'T LIKE IT!
the green-blue background colour is terrible.
why not possible to change this theme, to black for instance?
the biggest negative problem is that I can't get write access to my micro-Sd card.
read in a lot of sites that wire access will be given to 3rd parties apps, but NOT TRUE!
does someone that has Lollipop has wire access to sd card with 3rd partie app?
thanks mate

because its not their job to pander to everyones needs. theyve used the same skin and color scheme for years now and its up to you to do research into what phone you want to buy and how it looks. the update has been out for so long that you could have seen its looks before you upgraded
