Howdy,
I'd like to know if it's possible to get apps to install to the SD card without flashing to a non-stock rom. I've got my phone rooted and am currently using a 2.1 rom but it's not as fast or as stable as the stock rom. I'd like to downgrade to 1.6 stock but don't want to lose the Apps2SD functionality.
I've seen guides on how to install Apps2SD using Cyanogen mod here (forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4107149#post4107149) and here (forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534714).
Is there a way to use Apps2SD with the stock rom? Or even a cooked rom that is just 1.6 + Apps2SD? Thanks!
I found TheOfficial rom, it's perfect for what I wanted. Just leaving this here in case anyone else has the same issue. forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538456

My G1 is running latest CM, was rooted ages ago using JF method, now running latest CMRecovery.
I want to go back to the stock donut 1.6, ideally the UK T-Mobile one, but I want to keep root.
The only ROMs I can find are either highly tweaked (e.g. CM, TheOfficial etc) or the stock update from T-Mobile which removes root.
Is there something inbetween?
Or is it straightforward to install the official 1.6 and do something to 'root it' in place, given that I still have the JF SPL and CM recovery?
Actually I am assuming that installing the stock from TMO will not replace my SPL or recovery!?
Well, the stock ADP1v1.6 firmware is 1.6 with root.
Enomther's "The official" -- rooted base is exactly the same as stock ADP1v1.6, but with the community root-app for added flexibility -- you don't need to install the expansion pack if you don't like.

And FYI: Enomther's expansion pack is very flexible. Mainly just adds a few critical things, like apps2sd, iptables, and tethering components.
Ah okey, I thought Enomther's base included tweaks like apps2sd, overclocking, multitouch etc. a re-read shows that stuff's in the expansion. So base is what I want!
Thanks!
I've got a NexusOne so am selling my G1. Wanted to advertise it as 'rooted' but keep things as close to TMobile UK standard as possible. The lucky new owner is welcome to add the expansion if they wish, or change to some other ROM.
Should i just choose another rom to support a2sd and can't just add the a2sd to the orginal rom
If you are running stock froyo you can use the froyo version of apps2sd that is built in. Like you said, you could also flash a ROM that has the traditional apps2sd implemented.

can i use the traditional apps2sd implemented in my stock froyo?
There is an app in the market that enables the stock froyo app2sd option for any app. However use with caution, I used it myself and after a couple of reboots it suddenly stopped working (don't know if it was something I did or not, probably it was since I like to fiddle ). Result was that I couldn't use any app on the sd-card anymore.
You can use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715940
but only with certain ROMs (not the current ROM you are running).
I would just wait for CM6.1, that is supposed to have old school apps2sd.
So I had a NFX 2.1 sense stock rom and I had A2SD. I have been using it for a while but want to go back to CM6 for a while. My question is, now that I'm using it, I can't find my apps that I installed while on the stock rom. Can anyone help me with where to find them/how to get them back on my phone? Thanks!!
Hey guys. I had rooted my Nexus One without unlocking the bootloader using the 1-click root application. I have managed to successfully use Cyanogen roms in the past. I am currently running eViL's NXSense v1.26.
I want to now revert back to the stock Froyo Rom, install all the latest updates which have been done after Froyo 2.2 & be ready eventually for Gingerbread . My question is how I can safely revert back to the stock Froyo rom & still be rooted?
I have Rom Manager installed and I am currently using clockwork recovery. I believe that there is an option in Rom manager to flash the stock Froyo rom. Is this the best option to select? Also I have an ext 3 partition of 512 MB. Do I have to format my card to delete the partition ?
I would really appreciate if someone can post a step by step procedure regarding what needs to be done

Thanks for the link mate. I would still like to know since my Nexus is rooted, if I revert back to the stock rom will I lose the root? Also if I revert back to stock Froyo 2.2, will I get the OTA updates which have been released after that? Finally what about the ext 3 partition? Do I keep it or do I have to delete the partition and how I delete it if it is not required?
Hey guys. Can anyone please look into my questions? I want to switch back to the stock rom while still maintaining my root.
you will lose root on a completely stock (untouched) ROM, no matter the version. But you can always root back through various methods if needed. Rooting does not prevent you from getting OTA updates.
If you go to Froyo 2.2, you MIGHT have to manually update to 2.2.1 (FRG83) depending on if Google made the update available again (it was taken off for some reason...) but you WILL get future updates (such as the new FRG83D)
As for the ext partition, I do not think it's useful, unless you are planning to use apps2ext which requires root I believe. Don't take my word for granted, I don't know much about this.
Thank you replying mate. As mentioned earlier, rom manager does have an option of going back to the stock Froyo rom. I have a2sd enabled. So how do I go back to the stock Froyo rom. Do I have to format my sdcard to delete the ext 3 partition?
Hey guys. I managed to download & install Nexus One FRF91 stock rooted image using rom manager. I have also managed to restore my applications using Titanium backup. I can see all my root applications are working fine & I can also see the superuser app.
Now when I go to Settings--> About phone--> System updates, it gives me a message that my system is currently up to date. Is this because I am rooted? As mentioned earlier I rooted using the 1-click root & so my bootloader is still locked. How do I move on from FRF91 to the remaining Froyo updates while still maintaining my root?
Also when I connect my phone to my PC & use Minitool Partition Wizard, it shows me my ext 3 partition & the swap space. Since I am not using a2sd, how do I regain this space while still maintaining other files? Can I just delete these 2 things using Minitool Partition Wizard?
I would really appreciate some help here folks
Ok Mods I have finally updated to FRG83D without unlocking my bootloader Also I do not have to delete my a2sd partition now. So please delete this thread. Thank you to everyone who attempted to answer my queries.
I've got an N1 w/ Froyo 2.2.1 FRG83D; rooted using SuperOneClick.
Am I correct to assume that at this stage (that is w/ out a custom ROM) I am able to take advantage of Apps2SD?
I am considering utilizing www.gadgetsdna.com or androidandme.com suggested method. Ofcourse if there is a better method, suggestions are most welcome.
Additions to initial inquiry.
I am interested in the advantages of "Apps2SD", but am still contemplating a custom ROM.
1. Is it even possible to partition the SD card with root and stock Froyo 2.2.1 FRG83D?
2. If so, will having a partitioned SD card effect the operations of stock Froyo 2.2.1 FRG83D?
3. Does flashing recovery image w/ ROM Manager involve unlocking bootloader?
