Hi, anyone manage to get rockplayer working watching a .avi .mkv etc via a windows network share?
Yeah, I use cifs module and cifs manager to mount my windows shares and this way the system can use the files transparently. RockPlayer even plays MPEG2 files that way. This method requires root though.

Yes, I read about the linux mount method but has anyone else found a more seamless method?

Hey all, longtime reader here, I'm trying to stream divx/avi videos from my DLNA/SMB shares, and its been such a pain figuring this out.
while trying to mount a smb share using cifsmanager app, i get error, so i need to mod my kernel i think. I got a problem when trying to insmod cifs.ko, I get a 'exec format error', and i think the problem is that you need a kernel that is compatible with the version of cifs.ko in the /system/lib/modules directory. I was using chevyno1 1ghz lv kernel, and that didnt work, but slayhers kernel was able to insmod just fine. but i still could not get the cifsmanager app to work even then.
anyone got this working? i just want to be able to stream my avi/divx movies on my nas/smb shares, and run on bugless beast v.5, preferably with chevyno1 1ghz kernel....is there a diffrent version on cifs.ko that is compatible with chevyno1 kernel?
im also open to trying a different approach to streaming movies from smb share....so far there is no app that can play divx AND stream from smb. the only workaround i see thats feasable is to mount the smb share via cifs, and it will appear as a local file for vplayer or rockplayer to play divx. I cant figure out how to mount cifs. plz help!
Hi All,
Before I begin, I'd like to note that I am very new to the andoid system; I only received my Galaxy S about a month ago and before that I was a hardcore iPhone 3GS user.
I've attempted to search these forums for an answer to my query, but I have found it difficult due to the enormity of these forums.
With my iPhone, I was able to use a program called Air Video...I am not sure if anyone here is familiar with it. It allows you to stream video via WiFi from your computer to your iPhone with on the fly conversion. You'd install a small server on the computer then share the relevant folders. You could then access the shares from the iPhone and play any video files.
I have been attempting to find a similar app for my Galaxy S but the closet I've been able to get is CIF manager with a separate file manager and video player. My issue is that I cannot get CIF manager to work. I am after a compatible CIFS.ko file to enable me to access my Windows 7 shares.
Does anyone know where I can find said file? Here are my handset details:
Model Number: GT-I9000
Firmware Version: 2.2.1
Baseband Version: I9000XXJPY
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9 hardcore speedmod-k13a-5000hz #32
Build Number: DocRom_V9.1.4_XWJS3
Thanks!

I would be very interested to know if you resolved this
I dont have solution for CIFS.ko but i have other solution.
I run a webserver on my computer. anything light will do.
from phone under wifi open the access your computer using browser.
navigate to your video file and copy the link
install vplayer and paste the link. So far it work flawless for me.
I not sure other free player works but vplayer you can fast forword without problem
Not sure if this will help, but MOST of the kernels in this forum have cifs support, you simply need to enable it via CWM.
Then you should be able to use CIF Manager the same way you would a samba share if you are familiar with linux or via windows shares (no need for additional program on the system).
Can you elaborate how? I do not see anything look like enabling cifs in CWM...

My goal for getting adb working was to get su, which i got here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953110 with a bit of trouble but seems to work, so that i could drag items from my pc onto HC. I'm using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952456 to mount the media directory. I now seem to have su installed and the USM app is working. i can see my BN media directory from my pc now (yay) when using NHC, but i can't browse that directory from my nook HC (boo). So i can't share files between eggclair and HC. I'm a noob to nook and newbe to linux, so i'm assuming it is a permissions issue but don't have enough knowledge on how to change them yet.
Can anyone provide instructions for getting access to the media directory from Nook NC dual Boot?
I have astro and efile installed, but media directory shows up empty.
Thanks.
Anyone else?
Anyone else even have this issue? is there a work around I'm not seeing?
how about accessing it from froyo? I have nookiefroyo installed copied some mp4s to the media folder and when I got to media in astro there is nothing in there...
jv
Try an su file explorer, like Root Explorer, or Super Manager...?

I have yet to get a decent quality video ripped from a bluray (1080p) to play smoothly on any CM7-based roms, or even the straight CM7 nightly build with OC added.
I've tried a number of settings, plists and players (including mobo) and they all either skip frames, cause audio sync issues part-way into the movie, or play the movie like it's slightly slowed down. Pretty frustrating.
These same videos play fine on the stock rooted NC though, so it's obviously a CM7/Gingerbread issue still.
Guess I'll just have to wait patiently until the dev's get the video acceleration/audio issues figured out...
Hi glenairlie,
I tried installing Mobo using adb push to system/apps and when I load it it just crashes. Do I need to changer permissions? if you to what? How did you install and get it working
Thanks

I downloaded the mobo_1.0.129_v7_neon.apk file from the mobo website, copied it to dropbox on my PC, opened the file through dropbox on my NC and installed it that way.
Thanks I forget about drop box. So in my nooking around I used adb to push to to my system/apps directory. I then went into file manager open installed app. for some reason when I open it up it does not regonize any media files mp4 blah blah blah. It is like it doesn't have read access to directory where mp4's are located. I tried to delete app but when I went to settings applications it was not showing up as installed app. I also tried deleting apk file in in file manager and it would not let me.
So How do I delete app that is not showing up in setting applications.
Thanks
Greg

You could try changing permissions with the Fix Permissions in Rom Manager, or you could try adb uninstall mobo_1.0.132_v7_neon.apk (or whatever your apk file is called).
MoboPlayer is epic.
Netflix only shows the red loading circle never plays the video, Hulu buffers then doesn't play the video just shows the time of the video. I tried Youtube thats fine, HBO Go is fine, Amazon Video works, these are the only two culprits that aren't working.....anybody know why? Please, and Thank you......

assuming you're using a SM-N920T, i believe this issue is resolved using Arter97's kernel. his kernels have been very stable with the Note 5. hope it works for you.
Thanks, will try.
Nope didn't work problem still persists.

sorry to read this... what ROM are you using? did you also rename the /system/lib/liboemcrypto.so file? i've read that this file impacts streaming services as well.

Im just using the stock rom that's rooted, and the stock modified kernel. what do you mean about renaming that particular file, and I'm sorry to be a pain, but where would I find that file and what would I use to accomplish it, would es file explorer do the trick?Thank you.

no worries bro... since i don't know your experience with Android and making these kinds of tweaks, make a nandroid/backup using TWRP or Philz recovery. you want to be able to recover in case there's an issue. the liboemcrypto.so file is located in the path/folder i listed: /system/lib/. and yes, you can use ES File Explorer as long as it has Root access to the /system folder. (i use a paid app called Root Explorer. in my opinion, it's easier to work with and has the same functionality as ES File Explorer, minus the pretty UI.) With ES File Explorer you'll be prompted by SuperSU to grant Root privileges (access) when trying to rename a file in the /system folder. once you have access, find the file /system/lib/liboemcrypto.so and rename to /system/lib/liboemcrypto.so.bak. you would reboot your device and then see if this fixed the issue.
Greatly appreciated.
I've got this problem on my Sprint phone and the rename of that file fixes netflix, not sure about Hulu. I'm having problems with Google movies not working...

I had the same problem with my rooted SM-N920I. rooted with spacex V0.1. Netfix and Google Movie was not streaming. Renaming liboemcrypto.so to liboemcrypto.so.bak ( located in /system/lib) fixed Netflix. Google movie is still broken
Bump
I've tried to both delete and rename this file using two different file managers and I get an error both times.
You need an older version of Netflix. I'm using 3.7.1 build 1711. I haven't used hulu do not site on that one.

If you cannot delete liboemcrypt
You cannot delete file because files stem is mounted in read only mode.
You need go to a terminal emulator. Then:
su -
mount -o remount,rw /system
rm path_to_file
mount -o remount,ro /system
