Access BN Media directory from HC Dual Boot - Nook Color General

My goal for getting adb working was to get su, which i got here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953110 with a bit of trouble but seems to work, so that i could drag items from my pc onto HC. I'm using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952456 to mount the media directory. I now seem to have su installed and the USM app is working. i can see my BN media directory from my pc now (yay) when using NHC, but i can't browse that directory from my nook HC (boo). So i can't share files between eggclair and HC. I'm a noob to nook and newbe to linux, so i'm assuming it is a permissions issue but don't have enough knowledge on how to change them yet.
Can anyone provide instructions for getting access to the media directory from Nook NC dual Boot?
I have astro and efile installed, but media directory shows up empty.
Thanks.

Anyone else?
Anyone else even have this issue? is there a work around I'm not seeing?

how about accessing it from froyo? I have nookiefroyo installed copied some mp4s to the media folder and when I got to media in astro there is nothing in there...

Try an su file explorer, like Root Explorer, or Super Manager...?

You'll need to install the android sdk and set it up(there is a guide here though I don't remember where exactly). Once you do open a command prompt and type cmd. Then use cd C:\"wherever my android sdk is located"\ platform-tools
Put the youtube apk here too btw.
Then type
adb mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk0p5 /system
adb push Youtube.apk /system/app
adb reboot
once it reboots youtube should be installed.
There may be a simpler way (I'd presume there is) but this is the only way I know how to do it

I have a link to EVO's "HQ YouTube" apk in my blog fineoils.blogspot.com. If your NC is not on Froyo of any flavour, it works like a charm: smooth in scaling out any 1080p clips/movies. Couldn't make 'flash10.1 for 2.1" work though, so many embedded movies may be played only by other players -- for now.
Use adb to install.
Enjoy and comment on your success.
How do i know if i have froyo???

if you ask big chance you don't have it
Ok so i fixed the problem, but im not sure how! All i did was go to book tools, unchecked allow non market apps, then checked it again, rebooted and tried redownloading with astro, and it worked!!! I GUESS SOMETIMES THE SIMPLEST FIXES HAVE THE GREATEST IMPACT!

[Q] multiple computers, one with ADB

I loaded up HCv04 to my SD card and then installed ADB to run a script to put Gapps on to my nook.
Since then, it doesnt show in windows explorer to allow me to load on music and movies.
I have no plugged it into my work computer to do said task and it doesnt show up there either.
Im sure this is a stupidly basic little thing to sort out but can you guys help me out with this.
cheers
USB ADB is pretty hit or miss from what I've read and experienced. If you've got the google market, get ADB Wireless. That way you use wifi instead of USB, it works great and unlike USB on the nook no more headaches.
Im wondering about how I can get access through windows back to my nook emmc and sd card space to add things to them.
Since ADB, its invisible.
Install my USB mass storage utility found on dev...

i know im a complete ****wit but how can i install an app without access to the sd or emmc. That ADB lark is a bit over my head. You need a building designed, im your man, you need the simplest thing done with a rooted nook and i am a bit useless.
Use a file explorer (astro, es, root) found on market. Browse to sdcard and open apk file. See apk thread for more info.

[Q] How to view files in /data/data/ on NookColor?

I am trying to add a signed certificate to the FireFox as described here:
http://support.mozilla.com/mn/questions/786035#answer-142961
In order to do so, you need access to
/data/data/org.mozilla.firefox/files/mozilla/<random number>.default/cert9.db
/data/data/org.mozilla.firefox/files/mozilla/<random number>.default/key4.db
I got this to work on my Captivate by installing FireFox to a SD card then mounting in Windows.
However, I cant install FireFox to the sd card as it is not supported in 2.1 Android. If I use Super Manager on Nook or Droid Explorer on my PC (when adb WAS working), there is nothing to see in this directory.
So how can I go about pulling these two files on the NookColor?

[Q] Ad Blocking errors in internet browser while tethering through Mobile AP?

So I often watch TV show episodes on the websites for CBS, ABC, and NBC and just today for the first time I tried doing so while tethering to my phone using the Mobile AP. When I clicked on an episode, however, I received an error telling me, "This video is either unavailable or is being blocked by an ad blocker installed in your browser." The thing is, I definitely don't have an ad blocker installed in my browser; and, when I disconnected from my phone and instead connected directly to my ethernet, the video worked fine right away. I tried it for shows on NBC.com as well as ABC.com and received similar errors all pointing towards Ad Blocking software. Has anyone else ever experienced this or does anyone know the relation between tethering to Mobile AP and an Ad Blocker detection? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have two laptops and only one ethernet hookup, so I would like to be able to have good internet connected to both at once.
No one huh???

Install AdFree Android from the market, then choose revert.
do you have ad-blocking built into your rom? delete (or rename) the "hosts" file in system/etc

Ohhh wow I didn't even realize that ad-blocking came built into ROMs. I just quickly checked in /system/etc and did see the hosts file, opened it up and checked out the text. I tried renaming it but it was read-only, and root explorer wouldn't let me remount as r/w. I guess I'll look into it more tomorrow. But I would imagine I wouldn't want to just straight delete it right, as whatever ads it was blocking would no longer be blocked? I could just rename it any time I encountered errors while tethering to my laptop?
Does reverting through Adfree simply delete that hosts file?

if root explorer wouldnt let you mount you might have lost root somehow. re root.

I don't think I did. I just updated the su binary and when I reopened root explorer, superuser asked me if I wanted to allow root access to root explorer. I've read that before somewhere of people having trouble remounting within the /system folder. It let's me remount on folders outside /system, just not inside it. I still haven't figured it out. I suppose I could use terminal emulator right?

you were exactly right TR. i renamed the hosts file and re-tethered and i no longer received any errors about ad-blocking software. not to say the video is actually working too well tho - just keeps freezing. i guess streaming tv episodes while tethered to your phone isn't the best idea. anyway, thanks man!

[Q] Nook apps from Galaxy Tab 4 Nook on HD/HD+

Now that the Galaxy Tab 4 Nook is out, how hard would it be to pull the Nook files and create a cwm-flashable zip so we could get access to the Nook app store and potentially a better reader app and the UI on our Nook HD/HD+ running CM11?
I have been wondering the same thing for my devices. I actually went so far as to get the apk for the apps. However, when I loaded the apk and logged in, the device would run the apps but I could not do anything once inside and the kids section would not show the books that I have. I could see the books I had in the regular books section but I could not read any of them. It gave me a message about not being able to download to this device. I have no knowledge of editing the apk for use but I'll put it out there for people to work on.
Anyone have a idea of how to modify this apk to get it to work on CM11 or other ROMS?
The app probably has a build-in prevention to not allow the non-stock rom to run.
OK, I'm certain I'm about to show my ignorance but, why does this link not download NookApp.apk?
That's what the link says but the actual file downloaded was NookApp.zip, and there is no apk file inside. Is an apk file just a wrapper, similar to epub, so that I can change the name from apk to zip to look inside? Can I just rename NookApp.zip to NookApp.apk? I want to poke around with this but I'm confused.
Thanks.

Yes, an apk is really a special zip that has been renamed so that it can be installed in android. So yes, you should be able to just rename it to apk so it can be installed. And any apk can be renamed a zip and explored.
Edit: It really does download as an apk. Your software may have recognized it as a zip as part of downloading and renamed it to a zip. (Or Windows may just be displaying it as a zip if you have Windows set to not show extensions of known file types). But what I said above holds.

I see you're right. I was using IE11 and it downloads as a zip. If I download using Firefox, it downloads as an apk. Strange. I've never ran into that before.
Thanks.

Alright. The nook app let's me log in and empty categories. However I do not know what directories it is looking for things in since nothing has anything in it. Also shop will not load, as in it loads, but says no data found.
Using cm11, m11 build.

So we should be able to create/modify that folder to trick it into working or is there more to it than that. It will see some of my books but I can't access them.

Thanks hmiem81 for posting the apk. I can also see my books, but not download them. Also, it says not authorized on this device. That makes me wonder if messing with the build.prop might fix it? But I don't know the info for the Galaxy Tab Nook.
Update: it created a NOOK folder, so I assume files should be placed in the appropriate subfolder. However, it won't recognize that any files are there. Also, even though it registers as an epub reader, when I try to open an epub from a file manager it crashes, so it can't be used to read drm-free epubs either.
Does anybody have the latest apk for version 1.2.1.120? I'd also be grateful if somebody could post the build.prop from a Galaxy Tab Nook. Thanks.
