Now that the Galaxy Tab 4 Nook is out, how hard would it be to pull the Nook files and create a cwm-flashable zip so we could get access to the Nook app store and potentially a better reader app and the UI on our Nook HD/HD+ running CM11?
I have been wondering the same thing for my devices. I actually went so far as to get the apk for the apps. However, when I loaded the apk and logged in, the device would run the apps but I could not do anything once inside and the kids section would not show the books that I have. I could see the books I had in the regular books section but I could not read any of them. It gave me a message about not being able to download to this device. I have no knowledge of editing the apk for use but I'll put it out there for people to work on.
Anyone have a idea of how to modify this apk to get it to work on CM11 or other ROMS?
The app probably has a build-in prevention to not allow the non-stock rom to run.
OK, I'm certain I'm about to show my ignorance but, why does this link not download NookApp.apk?
That's what the link says but the actual file downloaded was NookApp.zip, and there is no apk file inside. Is an apk file just a wrapper, similar to epub, so that I can change the name from apk to zip to look inside? Can I just rename NookApp.zip to NookApp.apk? I want to poke around with this but I'm confused.
Thanks.

Yes, an apk is really a special zip that has been renamed so that it can be installed in android. So yes, you should be able to just rename it to apk so it can be installed. And any apk can be renamed a zip and explored.
Edit: It really does download as an apk. Your software may have recognized it as a zip as part of downloading and renamed it to a zip. (Or Windows may just be displaying it as a zip if you have Windows set to not show extensions of known file types). But what I said above holds.

I see you're right. I was using IE11 and it downloads as a zip. If I download using Firefox, it downloads as an apk. Strange. I've never ran into that before.
Thanks.

Alright. The nook app let's me log in and empty categories. However I do not know what directories it is looking for things in since nothing has anything in it. Also shop will not load, as in it loads, but says no data found.
Using cm11, m11 build.

So we should be able to create/modify that folder to trick it into working or is there more to it than that. It will see some of my books but I can't access them.

Thanks hmiem81 for posting the apk. I can also see my books, but not download them. Also, it says not authorized on this device. That makes me wonder if messing with the build.prop might fix it? But I don't know the info for the Galaxy Tab Nook.
Update: it created a NOOK folder, so I assume files should be placed in the appropriate subfolder. However, it won't recognize that any files are there. Also, even though it registers as an epub reader, when I try to open an epub from a file manager it crashes, so it can't be used to read drm-free epubs either.
Does anybody have the latest apk for version 1.2.1.120? I'd also be grateful if somebody could post the build.prop from a Galaxy Tab Nook. Thanks.

Couple Tips on using Google Docs on your Gtab:
Tip #1 comes from schettj | Uploading Documents on your Tablet to Google docs:
In ES File Explorer or your favorite file manager, navigate to the folder with the desired document in it.
Press and hold on the file, Select Send, select Docs
You'll get the Google docs file upload dialog, and the file will be sent "to the cloud!" where it will then be editable in google docs.

So I tried to install on my stock tablet. But I get a message that it can't find a Google account and it closes. How can I get it working
Tia
Seems this needs to be loaded on a phone ( tablet) that has a google login . Must check for credentials etc. Probably not work on a stock Gtab . Not sure about a custom Rom.
If you are on any Rom BUT the TnT based Roms (Stock, TnT Lite, Calk's) just go into settings, then accounts and add your google account.
If you are on any TnT based Rom, I think you will need away to enter an account (I don't think the TnT settings will allow this). Try loading/installing G-mail and or Google Talk.
Now that I think of it, if you have the Market running, your Tab should be registered to that account.
That APK gave me no problems with Vegan RC1

Has anyone gotten this to actually upload any documents yet? The description says you can upload documents from your device and convert to Google Docs format, and I assumed somehow I'd just be able to open a .doc or .xls file from any other app and select Docs.
Doesn't seem to work that way, at least for me, and I can't figure out any other method...
Yeah under "Quick Hints" it says you select Docs when "sharing" a file from another app. So it's what I've been fighting with all night: Quickoffice comes up, and it seems to be the only app configured to handle .doc files so there's no default I can remove.

Hi All,
For some reason my youtube app is missing from my nexus S and I can not download it from the market because it shows as already installed and it says it is incompatible with my provider.
I was wondering if someone can upload the apk file. You can find it by using any of the file managers (like ASTRO) and checking system/app/youtube.apk
Thank you.

Here is the solution.
This requires Root Access, and a Custom Recovery.
I found this hack over in the Galaxy S II section and I got it working on the Bionic:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1153196
I downloaded the .zip form that post and extracted it using 7zip in Windows.
I replaced the update-binary with the one from this post:
http://cvpcs.org/blog/2011-09-16/bionic_bootstrap_recovery
Then I used 7-zip to create a new compressed file with the modified contents of the original zip.
I installed Flash version 10.3.186.6 from the market and disabled automatic updates. (If Flash gets updated past that version, you'll have to find an apk for 10.3.186.6 somewhere for this to work.)
I put that on the sd-card and booted into recovery using the bionic-bootstrap application from cvpcs. and flashed the zip from recovery.
Then I installed "Script Manager" from the market, navigated to /system/etc/init.d, selected S98fixflash and checked the "run on boot" and "run as root" checkbox.
Then I rebooted, and set Dolphin HD to use Desktop as the User Agent.
Now I can view free Hulu content on the Bionic without getting the "not supported on this platform" error.
I'm attaching the file I flashed to get this working, to save other people the trouble of repackaging it.
Standard Disclaimer: This worked for me, but I'm not responsible if this causes your phone to become a useless brick, or even if it causes your phone to sleep with your spouse, kill your pets, and/or burn your house down. After all, ymmv.
Thanks to compuw22c and cvpcs.
The titanium backup/restore method is considerably easier than this.

This thread has all the info on the TB way.
These are different things.
Those instructions get the Hulu Plus app to run on the Bionic, which requires you to pay for the Hulu Plus service.
The instructions in the original post are for watching free content available on the regular Hulu Website without having to sign up for Hulu Plus.
So after doing the steps in the original post, you could open up the Dolphin browser on your Bionic and enter the following URL:
http://www.hulu.com/watch/279868/castle-rise
And watch the episode of Castle without being a Hulu Plus member.
Gotcha...though I am already
Paying customer so the point is moot for me... Plus they just release an update for support today.

That's pretty much what the zip flashable from recovery does. Only it also creates a script to copy the patched libflashplayer.so on every boot.
So you could probably make the fix permanent on your Iconia by copying the patched libflashplayer.so to /data/flash (create the directory if it doesn't exist).
Then open a text editor on a computer (NotePad for example on Windows) and create a new document.
Paste in the following:
cp /data/flash/libflashplayer.so /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib/
Then save it as hulufix.txt, and move it to the iconia.
Install script manager from the market, open it and navigate to hulufix.txt.
Select run at boot and run as root, and then reboot.
It should copy the file over at boot.
Just make sure not to update flash until some updates the patched libflashplayer.so for your device.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
Actually you could just extract the zip attached to the original post, and copy libflashplayer.so to /data/flash/
Then just create the script and use script manager as desribed in my previous post and get this working on the Bionic without bothering with booting a custom recovery.
I haven't personally tested it but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

The update is for Hulu Plus members, this hack allows you to view the regular Hulu website from the browser on your bionic. without joining Hulu Plus.
It lets you view all the free Hulu content available on the PC on your Bionic.
Would that work on the atrix 2.
There may be a much easier way to do all this that does not require root. I JUST bought it and am going to try it out later to see how well it works. but it caught my attention in another post.
It's called Flash Video Browser Originally found on this post.
This will remove the mobile ID sent from your local browser and allow you to view full website including flash website. It is also compatible with the latest version of Flash player (Version 11)
Added bonus is it does not require root access.
Cheers,
-Java
The .zip package won't work, but all you really need to do is copy libflashplayer.so located in /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib/ to your computer. Open it in a hex editor that can understand ascii
If you are using the most recent version of flash, there is a line in the file "AND 11".
Change it to "WIN 11"
if you are using the version referenced in the OP than it is "AND 10" and you should change it to "WIN 10"
copy the edited libflashplayer.so back to /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib/
and make sure the permissions are rwxr-xr-x
The fix will work until you reboot.
You can use a script to copy the file back at boot using script manager or init.d if you are using a rom that suports it.
I'll post a fixed libflashplayer.so for the current version of flash, and a script this afternoon.
Ok here's the libflashplayer.so file and the script this should work on any Android running 2.3
Using something like root explorer create a directory called "flash" in your data directory.
Extract both of the attached files to the new directory.
Make sure the permissions on both files are set to rwxr-xr-x
Use script-manager from the market to run 99fixhulu as root.
Now you should be able to watch hulu videos in the browser as long as the user agent is set to desktop.
If it works use script manager to run the script at boot, or put it in /system/etc/init.d if your ROM supports it.
This is for flash version 11.1.111.5
DO NOT FLASH THIS ZIP from recovery.

I used to be one of you paying hulu customers until I found out that I couldn't watch all of their videos on my Xbox 360. If I'm going to pay and upgrade to plus, I want to be able to watch all of their videos on my Xbox.
The entertainment industry has all these dumb rules and wonder why they have a problem with piracy. They don't need anything like SOPA to protect them if they have policies that make sense. If they want more users paying for hulu plus, they need to find a way to allow their paying customers to use the service how they want, not restricting and limiting access on certain devices.
On Xbox, it would allow me to watch the latest season of certain shows, but if I tried to watch the previous season, it said it wasn't available on this device. I canceled within days of realizing this. I would have kept the service if it wasn't for this issue. Instead, I kept my Netflix streaming account and supplement it with unauthorized sources (their silly limitations pushed me into having to use piracy websites to be able to watch what I want. The problem isn't my willingness to pay for content, but for the service telling me how I can and can't use their service when there is no real reason for it)

Just wondering... I recently got racks dual boot sd card up and running, kinda. The mirage cm7 part works great, the ics boot works great too, but I can't get wifi to work. It's suggested that I use a file explorer to modify a .ini file, all I have to do is change a 1 to a 0. But there is no file explorer baked in. No wifi means no market, so I can't download one. Adb doesn't see my nook when ics is running. So yeah, it's a little frustrating. Everytime I try to post on the thread it tells me I can't, because I'm a new user (over 1 year, but only 4 posts) so I can't post on a development related thread. So if any one can point me to a file explorer that I can install as a zip through recovery, that would be great, or a way to use the terminal app to change the .ini file... If not just think of this a #6.

Bad Dualboot image?
Hi -
On the development forum, in the Dualboot thread, the zipped image file hosted at techerrata.com/browse/nook/racks seems not to be working. I can't unzip with either 7zip or the windows compressed folder app. Could someone please check it?
Also, unfortunately, the 03012012 eyeballer zip seemed to produce a slow, jerky experience relative to the next day's. I know it probably a lot of work getting the directories correct, but do you think you could create a zip from 03022012?
Thanks for any help
I am using Racks' dual boot image with 2/1 updates. Both CM7 and CM9 work fine with WiFi. The BT in CM9 is still not working but it works in CM7. However, I have problem in the Nook Color part. Now I can download books and apps in Nook, but I cannot install apps or update the system.

Hello guys from xda-developers.com, I desperately need your help. I just got a new Nook HD+ and I live in a country where is very difficult to access to the internet by anyway. So, I can’t register the HD+ to Barnes&Noble site, nor purchase apps or get the HD+ working on.
I just want to use the Nook as a no-wifi stand-alone device for reading, watching movies, gaming, and using apps like calendar, calculator, alarm clock and so on by finding a safe way for sideloading apps and files locally from my computer to it. How I should do this and get the Nook HD+ completely useful? Now the Nook is in test mode, skipping first registration screen with OOBE procedure after a factory reset. I need detailed step-by-step instructions.
I would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

Not sure what you mean, run your own apps. You mean after you installed them, finding them to run? There are two ways.
Sideloaded apps do not show in the stock app drawer. But you can open another screen that does show them. Go to apps and hold your finger on the apps title bar and push the volume up button. An new screen called extras shows. Your apps will be there.
Another way is to sideload an alternate launcher like zeam. Then when you hit the n key it gives you the option of using it by default instead of the stock launcher. Do it. Your sideloaded apps show there.

That is what I meant when I said you would have a challenge doing it without internet.
The problem is those apk files must be installed before they can be run. The normal way to install them after you flashed my zip is to open the apk with a file manager. When you do, a dialog box opens asking if you want to install. Easy enough.
But stock has no file manager to open the apks with. So you have to get one somehow. If you have no internet and no ability to run a store, there is no way to get one. You might try the 'files' function in stock to do it.
Edit: Actually I figured it out for you.
1. Find an apk for a file manager, like root browser, es file manager or other.
2. Copy that apk to your internal sd using your USB cable attached to your PC.
3. Open chrome with your app drawer.
4. In the chrome address bar type the following:
file:///sdcard/nameofapk.apk
5. Hit enter
6. It will ask if you want to keep it, say yes.
7. When it is finished downloading, click on the little down arrow in the top middle of the screen. It will ask if you want to complete the action using two choices. Select package installer.
It will install the apk, hopefully your file manager. Now do the first (extras) method I showed you in my other post to find the app. Then use the file manager to open more apks and install them.

I see I misused “run” for “sideloading.
Before trying that for sideloading a file manager tell me if there is another way to show the “extras” screen as it is difficult to get it show by pushing down volume up button and taping on App’s bar name. It not always work.
And why, if I see the Zem Launcher icon on Settings, Applications, My Apps, as installed, it doesn’t ask for choices when I push down “N” nook button.
Hope to make myself understood.

Yes, that extras screen is hard to activate.
But I have a fix for you. Go to settings and uninstall zeam. Then flash this file:
http://d-h.st/S0c
It is my old "extras" file (not related to the extras screen I was talking about earlier). It will re-install zeam and add root browser, which will let you install apks directly. And now when you do the n, it should give you the default choice.

I flashed the file and reinstalled zeam launcher plus root browser and could sideload the ES File Manager from external SD card but still have to active the "extras" screen to reach to it. Nook buttom doesn’t give options. When pushed down, it takes me immediately to nook side. Movies are not played back either. Is there a way to change completely the Nook system to convert it into a more friendly android tablet?

Yes. But I recommend making the CWM SD using my new procedure in my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature. Follow item 1a, then do everything else per that thread you quoted.

So, all I have to do is to add the CM10.1 install file to the sd card I have been using until now to flash files, right?
Which CM10.1 install file do you recommend I should use from this link:

The CM10.1.3. And yes, you can use that same SD to flash it. If you want to use Play Store, you also need to flash the gapps zip. Gapps-jb-20130812-signed.zip from goo.im.
