[Q] Legend bluetooth bug on contact import - Legend Android Development

Hi,
New to Legend, HTC, Android and smartphones as a whole. Purchased one Legend for me and my wife liked it so much that she got one as well. So two independant brand new Legends at home with the same problem. By the way posted this at the official Legend HTC forum - noone replied yet. Meanwhile I have found a workaround so this is not an issue now, but guess might be issue again, so would be nice to be resolved. Already searched the forum, looks noone yet posted. So here it is:
As new phone users, our first task was to import our contacts from our old phones. So:
I had to import contacts from my old Sony-Ericsson K750i to my Legend, my wife had to import contact from her Nokia 6230i to her Legend. Result of both operations on both Legends is the same so for me this is an Android bug.
First I tried to send all contacts at once from my K750i to my Legend. The Legend refused to recognize the file. Actually there was some error message, don't remember it. Something about the storage which is funny, because my Legend initially had 2gb brand new blank SD card. And later I put it 8gb card and it gave me same error! I gave up and started to send contacts one by one still via bluetooth. I happily discovered that contacts get imported, so patiently started sending one by one. On around the 10th contacts the Legend refused to import anymore. It gave error message, which I don't remember, but was about storage (remember I had 8gb empty SD card). I did everything that came to mind to me - restarting the Legend, the K750i - nothing helped, so I gave up.
Same thing with the Nokia 6230i - it cannot send all contacts at once, so wife started sending one by one - same result on about the 10th contact. She gave up as well.
Finally I've found a workaround after a bit of thinking - sent all contacts from my K750i to my laptop via bluetooth - it's one single vcf file. Then copied the file directly to the Legend SD card and imported via Legend's built-in utility - everything was fine.
As for my wife, she remembered she did a backup with Nokia PC Suite (something I avoid to install) a month ago. It appeared the file was a csv. Since It was UTF-16 encoded, I used a text editor to convert to iso-8859-1, then I wrote myself a perl script to convert it to same vcf, as my SE K750i used to create, copied the result on her SD card and imported it the same way as I did.
Result is - all contacts were imported on both phones. So no issue by now.
Question is - WTF is this complaining by Android about free space?? I suggested a cache issue maybe. Don't know anythinng about Android, except it's some kind of Linux derivative (for which I thought there should be no issues, but looks I'm wrong). Since then we haven't tried to send contacts via bluetooth (just no need yet), but I was thinking about this issue -
Does anyone else experienced it and how it's solved?
If anyone at all have some idea what's this about and how to clean the bluetooth cache or whatever it is - please tell.
Both phones are brand new, just unlocked, nothing else is changed - original roms, not rooted (currently don't have need to root).
So - any help?
Thanks.

Transferring files/programs between smartphones?

Hello! I've been using my Tilt since Jan '08 (and an occassional lurker here), and have been loving it except for the heft. Call me a glutton for eye candy, but I pre-ordered the HP iPaq 910 Business Messenger, and received it about 3 days ago. I'd like to transfer most of the programs and files from my Tilt to the HP, but can't figure it out short of swapping out the microSD card.
I've looked over the help section in MS ActiveSync to see if there's a way to synchronize two smartphones w/each other, but nothin' doing. Is there a method to synchronize the programs & files of two smartphones?
Why not jus use bluetooth ? Copy and past to the other devise. Easy i do it with the Tilt to Moto Q
Programs - You can't, need to reinstall them on the new device either from the .cabs or from the PC using activesync.
Files - You can send them using bluetooth, but that's usually 1 by 1. Personally I'd make a folder on the memory card, copy all I want to transfer onto it and then swap it to the new device. But I already have everything on the card anyway.

Ouch... that thing is right big and ugly!
Can't imagine why one would change from a Kaiser to that... but to everyone his preferences

Lost Outlook Contacts New Active sync Connection

I am wondering if there is any way to salvage my contacts. I formatted my computer and resync it and it deleted everything. Every other time I connected it before it would ask before or it would merge them.
I doubt there is a way but I would like to know if so.
do you have a backup of your phone that you can reload?
lost Contacts
Hello,
I had the same problem on older devices running WMobil 5.0 and 6.0
becauce i have syncroniced with 2 computers i got all back. so it is nessesary to make a contact backup in outlook for that case. anyway its good to have
IN OUTLOOK FILE/IMPORT and EXPORT/EXPORT TO A FILE/Personal Folder File/ Contacts/CHOOSE Lokation and Filename/finish ok
if you make that periodicly, so you can get old contacts back you allready erased.
Greetings
Michael
lost Contacts
and allways create backups on a separate made partition and put importend files also on external drives
No I do not have any backups. I figured between the phone and the PC that there was no reason for another backup. I never thought that active sync made for mobile phones would think it's ok to erase someones entire phone book and replace it with nothing. I think that is a serious design flaw it should have at least had a warning before it did it. Anyways I figured all was lost as soon as it happened. I found an old phone and got some of the contacts back but I lost everything that I added in the last year unless I have a saved txt msg which I only keep a weeks worth usually. O well SPB Backup is installed now Lesson learned.
Thanks for the suggestions.

at&t Tilt WM 6.1 E-mail/txt messages wont load

I have at&t tilt with windows mobile 6.1..I can't view any txt messages or e-mails when I click on the icons in the today screen nothing happens..also from the menu when I go to the MESSAGE ICON and click on it nothing happens.
I'm having the exact same problem, and it just started today. I didn't even know it was happening until someone called me and said "why aren't you responding to my text messages".
I've done several soft resets, to no avail.
I haven't installed any new programs recently.
Earlier this morning, before I knew about the messaging problem, I couldn't connect to the internet. But a soft reset fixed that.
So what would cause the messaging portion of the phone to just suddenly stop working and acting like it doesn't exist?
Euklid, with a little help from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2563559#post2563559 I think i fixed it. It seems that apparently sometimes files associated with tmail.exe (the messaging program), that are on the storage card sometimes become corrupt. So the solution is deleting the folder where these files are. Don't worry, a new folder will be created. The folder is named "Inbox.mst########.##########" (#=various numbers).
Worked for me, hopefully it works for you.
I had a similar problem and found rebooting with the storage card out (only happened when I set attachments to be stored on the SD card) solved the problem. Popped the card back in then and it was fine.
HTH
Ok sorry I didn't see the replies so i was desperate..I backed up my contacts using SPB Backup...i went to settings and CLEAR STORAGE..that seemed to have cleared everything and reinstalled the software..now my phone runs SUPER FAST and everything works..i had to restore my contacts that i backed up..and i had to reinstall all my programs..if u do this make sure u have all your contacts/apps etc backed up..im happy now cuz my tilt was going REALLY SLOW and not it seems alot faster..;p
Removing Storage Card Worked for me
I had the same problem - followed advise above, removed SD card, rebooted, inserted SD card, all is well. Thanks!
IT Worked for Me !
Guys, thank you very much for your help. i Almost lost hope.
I have an At&T tilt , upgraded to ROM version 3.57.502.2 WWE from HTC website a few months ago.It worked fine (although i hate threaded messages).
Then Suddenly 1 week ago, i couldn't receive any SMS (text messages) and the Messaging would not open altogether. I also wasn't able to launch Active Sync on the PDA. Whenever i tried to launch Active sync, it opened for less than a second then closed.
I followed the instructions in this post and deleted the last Inbox.mstxxxxxxx folder only and everything went fine. It seems this folder was corrupt
Thanks again ..... you saved the day !
All i did was remove the inbox.#########.######### in the storage card and it worked fine.
deleting 'inbox.mstxxx' does it
After all the soft reboots, etc, removed the sd card and messaging worked again. Deleted the empty folder 'inbox.mstxxx' from sd card in PC and all's well. Thanks
It Keeps Coming Back
I also had this problem (see thread from today "Inbox Attachments Screws Up Messaging" as I can't post links). My deal is that the folder keeps coming back?!?! How do I stop this?
HTC Viva Solved
Thank you everyone.
It worked for me in my HTC Viva:
1. Delete the Inbox.mst........ from the SD Card
2. Soft reset
3. Working!

Windows7: HTC Sync/Drivers

I recently purchased a HTC Dream on the Rogers network.
I've been having a hella time trying to get it to sync using HTC Sync (it just won't recognize the phone). That being said I can mount the SD card and copy files to it with no problems.
Funny enough, when I turn on my Sony Ericsson K850i (previous phone) HTC sync on my computer pops up recognizing it, and asking if I want to sync with it.
I guess the main issue is that I want to upgrade to the new build, to fix the SMS timestamp issue (unless there is another work around?)
TIA!

[Q] Note destroys external sd card (32 GB Transcend)?

Hello there,
me again, i fear i do not have much luck with my note....
this happened to me with 2 different 32 GB sd cards (same type though) now. First time i thought the card itself was the problem, but now i doubt it.
When i first inserted the card, everything was fine, i copied several gb of music on it without problem, could access al files from phone and via Windows.
Played some files with MortPlayer the other day, and after the next restart of the device (had to shutdown for flight) it suddenly complained that i had removed the card while the system was running.
This does not happen at all with my old 8 GB sd, though, it's running fine whatever i do.
Cannot access the card anymore from phone, camera or PC (Win7 x64).
Runnning german stock rom ICS 4.0.3 rooted on the phone.
Did this ever happen to anyone else and/or is there i way to get that card running again? It does not show up under Windows at all anymore, not even as unformatted or so.
Any help or hints appreciated, thanks in advance.
Try paragon partition manager to format the sd card then see if it works if it does reformat on the phone. I read somewhere that you could format to ntfs and back to fat 32 to get it recognised

thanks for the quick answer.
the problem is (don't have paragon where i am atm, but tried with Acronis Disk Director & HP USB Repair Tool and i guess it would be the same with paragon?) that i simply cannot see the device anymore via such tools, same is for the windows disk/storage management.
So reformatting it seems not to be an option here, was more or less hoping that someone knows another "trick" how to get the thing back to life - and of course a reason why my Note might have "destroyed" the 2 cards.
did you buy these SD cards new ? if so was the seller a reputable one ? there are a lot of fake / dodgy Sd cards on the market nowadays
Do you use a card reader via a usb port ? if so try a different port, like one on the back, direct to the PC's motherboard, finally if that fails, try someone else's PC.
If all the above fail I guess the SD is completely dead. I dont know how the Note could have caused this unless the card was a fake, People are using 64GB SD's with no issues at all.
both were brand new cards, bought directly from Amazon.
Could of course be possible that they both were from a bad batch... Gonna ask amazon if there have been any issues with that product so far, could not find bad ratings for it though when i checked.
I'll try to get hands hands on another cardreader, left for vacations yesterday and just have my Netbook with internal USB based card reader, the Galaxy Note and a Nikon D7000 with me, which all do not recognize it, but the backup 8 gb sd card .
thanks for your time
S.
Amazon are friendly, If you havent had the cards long just explain to them the situation and im sure they will refund / replace.
You could be right about a 'bad batch' unfortunately with all the technology we have, it still happens
Hope you get it sorted :good: keep us posted !!!
Samsung NOTE - dead 32gb SD card
first - apologies - I am not an XDA developer (I am a retired architect... and a noob)
This thread came up when I searched "Samsung note destroys SD card". I will simply report my experience in the hope that others may find it useful.
I get a Samsung NOTE G-N7000 in late August & buy a 32Gb SD card from amazon (specifically getting a Samsung one to avoid any incompatibility)
I load about 7gb of music tracks onto it from my PC; it works perfectly& gives me good quality music playback until a week ago; then all playback form the card becomes impossible with an "unrecognised file type" message. I format the card in the phone. I dismount it. I slot itn to my PC, where "my computer" says that it has zero gb capacity, & will not format it. I mount it in my old Blackberry Curve which says it has 29.2 gb capacity - I format it - & the curve says it now has 1.2 gb capacity. The PC still says it has no capacity.
The only possible cause I cant hink of it is that I seem to remember there had just been an Android software uprgrade (to 4..0.3.?)
I find Samsung phone help, ring them, and get very badly run around - several times I am given a phone number for "Samsung SD cards" which is actually the UK "Orange" help number. I have rung three or four numbers at least threet imes each before I get through to Samsung SD cards help. They ask for photos of both sides of the micro SD card - having (I presume) established that it is a genuine Samsung product they e-mail me a product return form & code.
I have sent the card off to Florijn in the Netherlands.... I am not holding my breath.
It has not been a good week for memory...
- Outlook Express started to compact messages as the computer was closing down (so I have no e-mails before 15th Nov 2012)
- this SD card died on me
- & I forgot to go to a folk music dinner &music session that I had booked a week previously
I begin th think alzheimers might be a welcome release....
Your "watch this noob" video... perhaps one of the funniest videos I have seen for a while ... and certainly the most annoying... andyou expect "thanks"?
Well thats something really unusual. Because i am using my note for a year now and bought a 16 gb card with it. I onky encountered 3 errors where my n7000 stopped Reading the memory saying bad memory and what i did was to take it out of the slot and then reinsert it again and It worked fine.
The only advice i give to everyone. Dont plug ur phone to the pc or any other device always keep ur phone wireless with other devices so thst the malware cant replicate to ur storage. I use kies air or bluetooth exchange in cases there is large data i cooy it to the usb and then plug that usb to my phone and it works ok.
