Windows7: HTC Sync/Drivers - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently purchased a HTC Dream on the Rogers network.
I've been having a hella time trying to get it to sync using HTC Sync (it just won't recognize the phone). That being said I can mount the SD card and copy files to it with no problems.
Funny enough, when I turn on my Sony Ericsson K850i (previous phone) HTC sync on my computer pops up recognizing it, and asking if I want to sync with it.
I guess the main issue is that I want to upgrade to the new build, to fix the SMS timestamp issue (unless there is another work around?)
TIA!

Help me to connect my HTC Dream to computer.

I know this question is noob, but please forgive me guys, I've just got my phone this afternoon.
I have done a search on this box and on the web but not found any solution. Could you guys please help me to connect my HTC Dream to my computer? I have install HTC Sync 2.04, but it doesn't recognize my phone when I plug it in. And, by the way, can I connect to internet through my computer, like the way I did it with my O2 Atom Life through Active Sync?
Thanks so much.
I have download HTC Sync and follow the instructions found on the website, but I didn't see any notification shown that my phone has connected to the computer. So what do I do now?
Plug in your USB cable to the pc and the phone. After a second, go to the phone and slide down the notification shade (the top bar) you should see a thing that says USB connected. Tap that. Then a box will pop up and ask you to mount your phone. Tap mount and your pc will register it as a removable disk.
When you are finished, go back to your phone and slide the shade back down, tap the USB connected thing again, then click unmount before unplugging the cable from the phone. This will save the sd card from becoming corrupted.
That should be the way to read the MiniSD card from computer shouldn't it? I have done that and I still find that I can't make HTC sync work actually. The issue is, can my phone connect to internet through my computer?
The Dream is a Google experience phone. The firmware is built from the Google source code and nothing more. HTC Sync requires an app to be installed on the phone which I believe is wrapped up in the HTC framework. Our google phones don't have those frameworks by default so, we can't 'push' it back in.
It's included on the HTC Branded phones (Magic and Hero) so ROMs ported from those devices do have it included and of course the required frameworks. Thing is, hardly anyone uses HTC Sync, so the ROM devs remove them to make 99% of us happy. Sorry, but the Dream was never intended to use HTC Sync. If you're desperate, flash Haykuro's 6.0 ROM.
So does it mean that my phone will not be able to connect to internet through my computer, or is there another way round? I prefer connect this way, since wifi is not always available in my place...

[Q] Legend bluetooth bug on contact import

Hi,
New to Legend, HTC, Android and smartphones as a whole. Purchased one Legend for me and my wife liked it so much that she got one as well. So two independant brand new Legends at home with the same problem. By the way posted this at the official Legend HTC forum - noone replied yet. Meanwhile I have found a workaround so this is not an issue now, but guess might be issue again, so would be nice to be resolved. Already searched the forum, looks noone yet posted. So here it is:
As new phone users, our first task was to import our contacts from our old phones. So:
I had to import contacts from my old Sony-Ericsson K750i to my Legend, my wife had to import contact from her Nokia 6230i to her Legend. Result of both operations on both Legends is the same so for me this is an Android bug.
First I tried to send all contacts at once from my K750i to my Legend. The Legend refused to recognize the file. Actually there was some error message, don't remember it. Something about the storage which is funny, because my Legend initially had 2gb brand new blank SD card. And later I put it 8gb card and it gave me same error! I gave up and started to send contacts one by one still via bluetooth. I happily discovered that contacts get imported, so patiently started sending one by one. On around the 10th contacts the Legend refused to import anymore. It gave error message, which I don't remember, but was about storage (remember I had 8gb empty SD card). I did everything that came to mind to me - restarting the Legend, the K750i - nothing helped, so I gave up.
Same thing with the Nokia 6230i - it cannot send all contacts at once, so wife started sending one by one - same result on about the 10th contact. She gave up as well.
Finally I've found a workaround after a bit of thinking - sent all contacts from my K750i to my laptop via bluetooth - it's one single vcf file. Then copied the file directly to the Legend SD card and imported via Legend's built-in utility - everything was fine.
As for my wife, she remembered she did a backup with Nokia PC Suite (something I avoid to install) a month ago. It appeared the file was a csv. Since It was UTF-16 encoded, I used a text editor to convert to iso-8859-1, then I wrote myself a perl script to convert it to same vcf, as my SE K750i used to create, copied the result on her SD card and imported it the same way as I did.
Result is - all contacts were imported on both phones. So no issue by now.
Question is - WTF is this complaining by Android about free space?? I suggested a cache issue maybe. Don't know anythinng about Android, except it's some kind of Linux derivative (for which I thought there should be no issues, but looks I'm wrong). Since then we haven't tried to send contacts via bluetooth (just no need yet), but I was thinking about this issue -
Does anyone else experienced it and how it's solved?
If anyone at all have some idea what's this about and how to clean the bluetooth cache or whatever it is - please tell.
Both phones are brand new, just unlocked, nothing else is changed - original roms, not rooted (currently don't have need to root).
So - any help?
Thanks.

[Q] Contacts blind-sync to PC??

My HTC HD7 phone (on O2) is on the blink, the screen is not working anymore but the phone can still sync to my computer. It's getting replaced tomorrow but I need to get my contacts (not on sim) off it. I've tried HTC SYNC, bluebook isn't compatible and Zune doesn't have this option. Any help????
Shouldn't they all be synced to windows live anyway? (www.live.com)
So your new phone should automatically sync them from there anyway.

HTC ONE transfer tool issue!!!

Ok this is a fun "ONE" lol I digress. So I got my HTC ONE on release day on Sprint. Long story short it was defective so Sprint replaced it for me and mailed me a replacement ONE. I install the HTC transfer tool onto my original ONE and started up the transfer hotspot on the new ONE and no matter how hard i try the original HTC ONE will not see the new HTC ONE's hotspot, the one named "HTC transfer tool 1234". I can see it on my PC and my chromebook so i know its actually broadcasting. Does anyone know how I can get it to see the hotspot? The original ONE will not get a pin for the transfer tool till it can connect to the hotspot.
Cant see any reason why the One cant see the network. Is Bluetooth transfer an option instead?

[Q] HTC One not connecting to HTC Sync Manager (Win 7/64 bit)

Hello all,
since yesterday I finally got my new HTC One for replacing my HTC Desire HD.
The phone itself is great to work with.
Unfortunately I can not get it to sync with the HTC Sync Manager and my MS Outlook 2010. Although the tool claims to do exactly that. This feature is very important for me.
Got in contact with HTC helpdesk many times but it seems they can not really help me.
I have done almost everything possible (deinstall all HTC items, reinstall them all about 30 times now, remove drivers, root hubs, deactivated viusscanners, ...) but still it is not getting to work.
The last situation I have now :
I installed HTC Sync Manager V2.0.59.0 from their site. When this is installed, the top items "Files" and "More" are greyed out. There's also no place to start any syncing.
***** Sorry, can not show picture as I do not have 10 items yet on the forum ****
When I connect the HTC One phone, a lot of drivers are getting installed.
Unfortunately, nothing happens next.
One thing the HTC helpdesk told me, is to activate the USB Network setting to "Internet pass-through". If I do this and connect the HTC One to my PC, it takes quite some time before it finally gives following screen :
***** Sorry, can not show picture as I do not have 10 items yet on the forum ****
"Either you do not have the latest version of HTC Sync installed on your PC, or another phone is already using internet pass-through on your PC. Please ensure that you have the latest version of HTC Sync and unplug any other phones from your PC".
It is very strange it is talking about HTC Sync and not HTC Sync Manager...
I have no other phone connected.
If I look in the "ALL programs" part of the HTC One, it is showing HTC Sync but with a size of 0 bytes. I can also not clean the cache like is stated by HTC helpdesk.
Can somebody help me in getting this to work for me ?
Greetings and thanks a million for any help.
Davy
Have you turned on usb debugging
Frankly, HTC's Sync Manager is pants. It's been updated so many times lately, I suspect there's an underlying problem with it.
The Original HTC Sync that I used with my Wildfire S worked fine. I then went on to Sync Manager with my One S and it's been a pain ever since.
On the first update, InstallShield deleted old driver files then stalled. I had to go back with System Restore, grab the driver files and save them separately before re-installing.
Yet again, only today, I updated with the new release, which appeared to install fine, but on first run to update Contacts, it froze solid at 30%.
If you can't clean up everything by totally un-installing with, say, Revo Uninstaller on its deepest setting, then possibly following up with CCleaner and installing Sync Manager from scratch again, then forget it and just cut and paste direct from Outlook.
