recovery menu won't work with I9000 kernel on captivate, you need to flash a stock captivate kernel if you want to use the I9000 Rom.
did the captivate kernel flash finish successfully ?
if you see GT i9000 logo in boot up u still have i9000 kerner

thx 4 answer
i flashed it again and then it works.
dont know where´s the fail.
thx

u stuck in recovery mode, how u can go into download mode?

@ron
procedure A: (works with stock fw)
battery out/battery in
hold down [VOL +] and [VOL -]
plug in the usb
procedure B: (works with i9000 fw i think)
battery out/battery in
hold down [VOL +] and [POWER]
or procedure C:
phone in debugmode
adb reboot download

Nothing to see hear, misread something...

don't know if this works with the i9000 kernel but the back button on the bottom acts as a select button as well.

Bootloader mode: To access this mode, turn off the SGS, and then press VOL UP + HOME pressed while pressing Power. Then you will enter recovery mode.
In recovery mode you can wipe the system and you can flash a file named update.zip (if you have installed a such file in the root directory of the internal memory). These update.zip files are usually made to root or modify the SGS, and if you want to install a custom ROM, it might be necessary.
If you have installed another recovery image, the bootloader/recovery menu might have some extra features, i.e. nandroid backup and access to other settings.
Download mode: To access this mode, turn off the SGS, take out SIM and SD card, then press VOL DOWN + HOME pressed while pressing Power. Then you will enter recovery mode. Then the phone will say "downloading", and then you should connect the USB cable to a PC running the Odin firmware tool. Read more about Odin and firmwares on samfirmware DOT com
Disclaimer: Not every SGS has this 3-buttom combo - if not, search forum for "3-buttom combo fix"
Hope this helps you.

Hi Sparkle1975, I've searched the forums and read many times what you have copied and pasted.
In your answer you say that Bootloader mode is Recovery Mode.
(Bootloader mode: To access this mode, turn off the SGS, and then press VOL UP + HOME pressed while pressing Power. Then you will enter recovery mode.)
Within the app Quickboot it offers the options of reboot, recovery, bootloader and power off. Recovery and Bootloader appear to be different options.

Just in case anyone else has the same problem as me:
For me VOL UP works, so I can get in to update mode, but VOL DOWN (download mode) does not work. If I enter update mode, then hold power until it reboots, quickly presses VOL DOWN+HOME (but not power) it enters download mode.
A few more steps, but it works.
Official swedish 2.3.3 firmware in mine.
Edit: This was tested a few times with the SIM and SD out. I haven't tried it with them in.

[Q] galaxy S recovery mode after upgrade to 2.3.3

Hi everyone,
i'm new to this Android thing. last night i upgraed my sgs from 2.1 to 2.3.3 Build XXJVK with kernel 2.6.35.7-I9000XXJVK. it works fine and i can go into download mode by holding down volume down + home +power but i can't get the phone to go into recovery mode.
can anyone please kindly show me how to get into recovery mode? (i tried volume up+ home+power, doesnt work)
Just let go off the buttons when the galaxy s logo appears. Do it several times so you will know the right timing to let go
You would have been better off reading all the FAQs on these pages before messing with roms .
Recovery mode is hold down Home + Volume up + Power when Samsung splash screen shows release Home Volume up Then Power Button .
jje
volume up + power + menu and when the logo appears live them

Did you flash jvk via ODIN or via CWM?
If you have not flash jvk via ODIN ever, you might experience strange effects, like:
Some glitches on the screen (jibberish) when starting, or in the camara.
Not entering recovery although you can enter donwload.
Some more.
In my case all these effects disappeared flashing once jvk via odin. It flashes the secondary boot loader, and makes the trick (sbl.bin).
Hope it helps.

[Q] clockworkmod

How do it know if i have it installed on my mini? There is anyway to chack that?
Turn off your phone, then boot in recovery mode by pressing Home + Power.
1.Turn off your phone
2.Press Home+Power buttons till u boot into recovery menu
If it is CWM there will be shown Clockwork Recovery Mod with everything in orange fonts
if in ur recovery mode any background lyk su
thaht means cwm is already installed

Simple way is to reboot to recovery (Press Home + Power button ) then see if you see Clock Work Mod Recovery v4.0.0.5 at the top of the window. If yes then you have CWM recovery if not then you don't have it, so simply install it using Odin.
For more help on installing it search at http://yagyagaire.blogspot.com

[Q] SGS stuck on Startscreen - yes i have used the search

Hello!
I am in deep s***t right now,
tried to flash the SGS of my friend and now i am stuck on the Galaxy S bootscreen.
Reflashing several Kernels via Odin didn't do any good...
I am not sure what to try next, as most CWM Recoveries i Tried seem to have problems mounting a partition called "E"
Any suggestions what to do?
Many thanks!
Do you have access to recovery or download mode by pressing either vol up + home + power or vol down + home + power ?

Go to Download mode, and Flash the original Stock ROM via Odin.

Phone has no recovery

Bought a second hand note. Aa small yellow triangle appears when i boot it up and trying to get it into recovery. I'm trying to get it into recovery so I can flash something via odin. Don't wanna install anything I'm not sure of though.
Any help?
you dont have to go in to recovery, you need to go in download mode (vol down + home + power) to flash something via odin!
vol up + home + power gives you access to recovery (CWM or stock, depending on which is installed currently on the phone)
the yellow triangle is a hint that the note was flashed trough odin once or more.
TIP:
try vol down + home + power and vol up + home + power until you get in download/recovery dont let the keys go!
Works - Thank you
