I have a I9000 but i sell mobile phones , today i got a demo from the Samsung Galaxy I5500 to use , its pathetic compared to my Galaxy S but the FW on it looks actually better , its almost plain vanilla, almost no touchwiz except the side scrolling and the notification bar.
Would it be possible to port that fw to the I9000? Its also 2.1 Eclair...
True, but the hardware on the I5500 is completely different so the firmware will not be easy to port. And there are mods around here that remove touchwiz and add back a lot of the stock vanilla applications.

title says it all. is their going to be a galaxy s ROM? or can that not be done so easily because HTC and Samsung use different everythings?
probably not... different gpu and radio i think...
what do you want a galaxy s rom for anyway? with all the launchers out there now I cant see why you would just want it for the interface...
You can download the touchWiz Launcher. "TwLauncher" its called. That will give you the theme of the galaxy S for the home screens and the app drawer, but no Samsung widgets or apps as far as I know.
is porting the rom to nexus one possible if so any leaks yet as to who might do this????

porting the rom is allright although some things might not work ... but why would you want that????? i mean knowing that the samsung galaxy s is based on android 2.1 and the nexus is already having the froyo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can can of understand why wanting the samsung galaxy S Rom. my son has the Tmobile Vibrant version and the phone is bad #$&. I myself have the nexus one and will say the the only thing I like about the samsung GS are the speed and the widgets. I wish there were a way to get the Widgets off the galaxy S. but just like the post above. Froyo rules and is much better than 2.1
At one point wasnt there an internal build Gingerbread rom "leaked" from Samsung for the Galaxy S? I thought at one point I remember reading that there was. If there was, is anybody doctoring it up for the Captivate?
I'd like to go for Gingerbread on my Captivate but kind of dont want CM7, since it's stock based its too "green". I actually kind of like the samsung touchwiz based roms since they have the blue highlighting and the TW launcher isnt too bad, it looks sooooo much better than that puke green color of stock gingerbread.

There was a leak for the I9000 but since they did not release the source code it can not be ported over to the Captivate.
so far there is CM7 and Miui built off 2.3.3.. your only 2 choices so far. Neither are out of beta yet.
i believe samsung has said they will be releasing gingerbread for the galaxy s phones starting as early as next month... not that I think they can keep a date to save their lives, but they do generally follow through... eventually
just wait for a while, since others (htc, sony) will release 2.3 update pretty soon, samsung will do the same thing ...

Guys, I've been using the Galaxy SIII since a few days and it really impressed me how far Touchwiz has come up. It was once plain boring but now the the overall 'ease of use' and fluidity has improved to a great extent. The Galaxy S3 is one phone which I can use without the need for any rooting or any Custom Roms whatsoever.
Sad part of the story, after using the Note for over two months, I got so used to the large screen on the Note that the S3 looks small to me. Moreover, the Note's screen is much brighter too. The only disadvantage of the Note's screen is the black clipping and gamma issues which seems to exist even after a screen replacement. So I decided I'll live with it. Also note that the S3 has very poor blacks when viewed at night. The black screen test at pitch darkness would make us its an LCD.
Sorry for the long post, so let me come to the point now.
Please suggest me a ROM (if it exists) which completely or almost resembles the S3 UI, i e, a fully functioning Touchwiz 5.
The reason why I'm asking for a Touchwiz based ROM is that I want the SNote and SMemo app on my ROM and so far I've seen Criskelo's ROM and Kingdroid which has this. But I'm confused between both. It would be nice if the ROM also had a hybrid mode (Tablet/Phone) like Paranoid Android but not a necessity.

TW ROMs cannot have tablet mode. If you are looking for Hybrid then you have to forget about TW and lot of other Samsung apps and both of these ROMS are good, it depends on your choice which one you prefer.
Use Goatrip rom..it isn't here in xda...search in google

This is my first post in this forum and XDA as it is. I have been user of Galaxy S I-9000 for long time, and trought out the history there were many good roms like Darky, DOC's ROM kitchen and others. There was long time, I haven't touched this phone, since I broked the screen and network card. Right now I see, that there are many ROM's that are based on unofficial ICS, JB, and I have one seriously doubt about camera quality in these ROM's-is it the same, as it was, when I bought the phone, or technicly, it's using some kinda android app, that's not optimised for Galaxy S-cause I think, the quality was better with official based ROM's-maybe somebody has converted camera app from 2.3, so we could use it on 4.0 Android versions?
Hi all just generally interested on this one, I've been trying more or less any rom that hits these forums and I keep finding myself at an extreme end of the scale with each rom.
For example cm10.1 both regular nighties and the asylum rom are blatant, high speed, clean, customizable roms with everything a wannabee nexus owner could dream of. But I can't understand why there is no smart stay? Where is multi-windows? I mean at the end of the day it's a note. It should have the best features of a note regardless of which android blend your craving.
So really I'm asking is there a reason we have to have bare bones Google OR fat rom Samsung (customs, leaks ect.)?
I'm saying this from joosh3's xxlsc ultimate jellybeans rom, so far undisputed king in my eyes. Only have one issue where typing 'note blah blah random whatever' in Google now somehow reboots device lol males me laugh.

Tw features needs TW proprietary code framework... So you won't see a port of those to aosp as its not easy to accomplish..
In the past devs even tried to port some features like multi windows to xls2 (first jb leak with no multi windows) from note 2 and they failed.. So if this its really hard to do from tw to tw (jb to jb) can't imagine what it would be from tw to aosp..
