Hi, just wondering if anyone can recommend a good app for sharing files (apks, pics, videos etc) between android devices? Cheers.

I'm curious about this one too. I have been using Hoccer, but it is soooo slow. It takes like 2 minutes to transfer a 12MB file. The only other one that I know of is Bluetooth file transfer, not sure how fast it is though. I would assume it's faster than Hoccer.

Tried that but it isn't great for apps that you want to share that aren't on the market where I just want to send my friend or mrs an apk.
Astro file manager with the Bluetooth module is pretty handy for sending pretty anything

root explorer and EStrong File manager "Send" via Bluetooth also works great
+1 Estrongs File Explorer

You can send non-market apk's. It just has to be installed on your phone first, it picks from the list of installed apps on your phone
If you're both on wifi you could try ftp. One of you starts a ftp server and the other connects.
That will be a lot faster than bluetooth.
Sugarsync or Dropbox. Same acct. SS allows you to sync folders on your sd card.

That's what I do, I can also share with non-Android devices this way (and computers). I have SwiFTP on my Nexus as a server, and use AndFTP as a client (or even the browser).

I just wanted to put this out there for anyone having trouble finding apps on the Market with their VS GTAB.
I found Bluetooth File Transfer by "Medevial Software" that allowed me to transfer most of the apps that I have on my Nexus One over to my GTAB.
The app has a nifty little function called "Send Applications" on the menu under the "more" tab.
Both devices have to have bluetooth on for this function to activate.
This app helped me to get apps over to my GTAB when I couldn't get to them from the Market (on the GTAB).
Some Apps on my N1 were locked so I could'nt move those but for the most part I was able to get a lot of apps on my GTAB that I was not able to get via normal channels.
You can also use the free version of dropbox and get apps from all your PC/phone/Gtab.
It's a cool little app/program. and you can share folders as well. But it is only via wifi, which is fine as my phone is rooted so I always have wifi.

I used Dropbox all the time it's pretty cool but I tried to see if I could get my apps from my N1 over to my GTAB with Dropbox but it didn't give me the option to send APKs like BTFT does.
BTFT will package the selected apps into individual APKs so you can install them easily after they are transfered to your device. Which is a big help because before I found BTFT I was moving apps over using Titanium Backup which had many steps to get the apps over and installed successfully. With BTFT those steps are greatly reduced.
Try it out.
Nice find, thank you sir.

I believe the default location for transfered apps is the main directory of the internal sdcard.
/mnt/sdcard
Just scroll to the bottom if you are using a file explorer like estrongs.
BTFS worked great for me! send a few apps to my boss' droid2!
Here is an easy way to transfer and sideload. Using a WiFi connection.
Download apk's to your pc, use ES File explorer to browse for apk on PC (Lan), copy to your "downloads" folder on sd (Local). Browse w/ ES File explorer to downloads , choose apk and install.
Been working like a charm for me
Edit; Sorry to post this here, since this thread relates to "BFT", meant to post on previous thread.

Using VEGAn 5.1 Beta with Pershoots Latest 2.6.32.29
It does work Nexus to VEGA, I just tried it out again using CM7 RC1 on my
Nexus w/Wildmonks 2.6.35.10. Transferred nine test apk's over just now as I typed this thread reply.
I'm not using the 5.1.1 supplement.
I was using stock kernel (I guess) from vegan, updating now to see how it goes...
NO GO! updated to latest pershoot
Weird, anyhow, no biggy since I have plenty of other way to transfer my apk, just very strange!

Hmmm? Don't have an answer for you. I remember having that same issue but all I did was make sure both devices were discoverable and making sure the ftp share service and opp receiving service were both enabled in settings for both devices. I don't know for sure that would be your fix though..
BTF
I had the problem before of getting an error message, but I installed Blue Tooth File Transfer on both devices and now it works fine. I have it on my Gtab, EPIC, Moment, and EVO and all works fine.
Wow, very cool. Thanks, worked great from N1.
As you guys know(or should by now) I've ported MIUI to the Bionic. I need your help for a list of apps you would like to see in it. FREE APPS. Just Throw Some At Me And If I See Multiples, I'll Throw Them In It.
.....nothing?
Generally I think you should avoid adding apps...but the USB and wifi tether apps listed in my noob guide would be a good addition.

I not installing bloat. That why I'm asking what are you guys looking for.
I would add the Google source tethering app and that's about it. Also in your rom you have to have wifi to download anything from the browser or market. The toggle in the downloads app doesn't work. But great job on the rom!

that's in the settings don't remember where but i gives you a pop in the market gives you the option to que or continue and on that dialog it gives you directions on where in setting to go to disable it.. had that same issue too..
I've looked all over the settings and I can't find it :O if you find it please let me know. I love miui!

to late..and you guys are thinking apps like games and stuff...I'm thinking apps like
RomToolbox
DSPManager
PhoneInfo(as its pre-beta)
WifiTether
stuff like that ya know.....tools you'll need on a pre-beta Rom
MIUI apps
Flash Video Browser- watch Hulu, Youtube, College Humor, CBS as a desktop browser, no more blocked cause your on a mobile browser.
Webkey- cell sitting on charger in bedroom, have access and control of it from your browser.
AirDroid- cleaner than Webkey, less options but BADazz either way.
Webtop Connector- taken from Atrix I believe, lets you run webtop without buying hardware, just plug in HDMI cable. Can't wait it Webuntu is ready.
Android-wifi-tether- cause Barnacle wouldn't work and 4G is too fast not to tether.
NZB Leech- my ISP limits my bandwidth, so this help to expand it. Use Opera or Firefox and I like binsearch.info for downloading NZB files. No PAR checker, but I justs transfer to PC if I need to rebuild.
Clover- cause free $5 and easy to get pay and pay people. MOD EDIT: Link removed - no referral links allowed
LCD Density and LCD Resolution- I like that one shows you the resolution your about to set, other gives you more control. Set to 180dpi and webtop mirror will give you 1280x720 on your HDTV.
Swiftp- sharing is caring. Easiest FTP server I've used, and works great.

I know this is overboard, but these are apps I like to install and use.
If you have an app that you consider better than the ones listed, please let us know what you like about it versus this list.
ES File Explorer vs Astro File Manager = ES has a built-in scanner to find network shared folders. Also client for Dropbox and Box.net, so easier to copy/paste into you cloud storage. Box.net offering 50GB free.
Maybe we can do a Games thread later on.

ok as the title suggests.... anyone of you know of any apps similar to AirDroid? Ive tried using it and 8 out of 10 times i cannot seem to log in to the webclient to connect my phone....
Please note, im not looking for solutions to this problem here.... just alternative apps that does the same thing more or less....
thanks in advance
There's a app called browsix that I've used before, it doesn't have the nice interface AirDroid does but its has half the features of it. You can find it on the market.
Just thought I'd suggest it.
Tried that one but still can't get it to work properly maybe its something to do with my Wi-Fi.... using Wi-Fi file explorer for now tho..... seems to be ok
search button..... just do it.....
try file expert. it has a feature like tht.
bt nt as good as airdroid
Was abt to download that and give it a shot then I read further into the reviews and although it got good ratings, there were reports of spam and huge battery drain.... sigh... airdroid is still the best so far but for the life of me I can't figure out what's wrong with me connecting to the website.... seriously anyone else using airdroid?
search button..... just do it.....
so u r trying to http://web.airdroid.com/ or locally?
ur firewall might block the port
for me, both local and website works fine
The website link is useless for me, the only times I got on it were on the 192.11 etc even that is not stable for me firewall is ok as using other almost similar apps manage to log me on easily
search button..... just do it.....
You might wanna try ES Explorer, since the last updates, it got the SD card sharing function, and with that became the best file manager for me.
i am using es, but does it let you control your phone and its contents from your computer?
Is it possible to transfer data with an FTP server like airdroid or something?
Or can I just access my phones data?
sent via tapatalk

Try websharing app, it has good user interface
With lite version you can upload single file at a time, with full version you can upload bulk files, folder etc. Full version have some nice features.
With airdroid I also have sometimes auto disconnect problem
Sorry for bad english

It does. Check the Remote Manage box in Settings > Remote Settings.
It has been 6 months I dont know if you found anything but I can reccomend a great app just like AirDroid.
It's called SnapPea and its truly awesome. Been using it for some time now and its really great.
Webkey
Not sure if this one has been mentioned but Webkey is astonishingly powerful. Needs root but can connect through various networks; I use it when airdroid won't work. The PC side is just a webpage. Address is http://webkey.cc and you get the app from the Market.
I know this is an old thread, but I just wanted to share something I discovered.
Not sure if it has changed yet, but I was using Opera web browser a couple of months ago, and AirDroid does not work with that browser...just an FYI
Cool!
Airdroid 2.0 is awesome!
But the below two are very good as well!

I have an app on my phone, but it is no longer available on the Google Play Store. Is there anyway I can get this out of the Vivid so I can move it to a different phone (Samsung Galaxy Note)? I want the app, but I can't really find anywhere to download it.

If your rooted yo can get a root explorer and navigate to /data/app and copy the app to your SD card
From there put it on your computer then on your other phone...or Bluetooth it over

Blue FTP
Download Bluetooth file transfer by medieval software from play store. In that application, you will find an option like send app. Basically, this software converts the app installed in your phone to .apk file and sends it to the other phone you want. This will help.

Lol it doesn't convert it apps stay as .apks on phones, so it just grabs the app and sends it
Good suggestion though, does the app require root?

Yeah, id like to try the blue tooth thing, does it need both phones to be rooted?
NO Root required. Just install the app and shoot..works well on Stock ICS, CM 9.1.0 stable, CM 10 Experimental, Thunderbolt, Slim ICS, Chemeleon 1.1 (tried and tested by me).. no bugs known..
You can use root explorer or try apk extractor both work very well.
i am looking for an app that let me view the photo from a computer thru my wifi net work... i need a app just view not transfer photo so can anyone got any app like this please response to me asap thank you
Dropbox might work for you. You can sync phone, tablet and all your computers. None of the photo's will get erased unless you want them to. Dropbox is free. Also you could use Kies and setup a wifi connection between the 2.

maybe your looking for something like AirDroid. it lets you connect with your device over a wifi network so that you can view/transfer your apps, sms messages, photos, contacts, music and anything else that is on your device. heres the link:

ES file Explorer. View and transfer files over your network. One of my must have apps
