I'm trying to create a theme, but there's a notification bar image I can't find. I'm trying to find the right image for the "Ongoing" notifications background. If anyone could help me out, I'd really appreciate it, thank you
what do you mean ongoing notifications. could you supply a sample I should be able to tell you where it is and the name.
Sure, this actually leads me to a question I've been meaning to look into. What's the best way to take screenshots? Is there a recommended application?

I use ddms (Part of the sdk), but drocap and shootme in the market seem to be the other two choices.
Also, I believe that the Ongoing Notif. image is the title_bar_portrait.9.png in framework-res.apk/res/drawable-*
That was it, thanks a lot!

No, I've searched it myself and can't find an answer.
oh thanks for trying!
i wanted to change the background of the programs list also, never found the corresponding image file. please let us know if you find it.
Not sure if i understood this correctly but background for grid view in Launcher ? have a look at pattern_carbon_fiber_dark.png in drawable. Don't use rosie anymore, insteaded i swapped Launcher.apk with advanceLauncher.apk found in the dream section.

this seems to be the right file for the android stock launcher, since we are talking about rosie/sense launcher this doesn't help... thanks for the hint though.

this might be all_programs_header_title.9.png. at least the name suggests it
afaik you can't just alter these *.9.png files, but you'd need to look that up if it doesn't work.

thanks everyone! maybe il put together a list of where everything is...
and well im not sure but for anyone else who doesnt bother editing .9.png, i find that if the file covers a whole box (like a header) instead of covering part of a box(like bottom rosie buttons) then you can easily change colour by:
(using photoshop)
- create new layer on top of image
- paint it what ever colour
- right click the layer and bring down the transparency so you can see the detail
... this has never given me problems
i use bettercut for my desktop icons & i know there has got to be a way to bypass the 48x48pixel rule if you have root. maybe go into the system file & change some script or something? i would like my icons to be likee 60x60. does anyone have some ideas?
come on guys, i know its possible.

i don't mind, the iphone has icons that are that size and it works fine.
You can do this, but it would require you to compile from source. I am not experienced enough to walk you through this. I suggest asking cyanogen or enomther.
why would i have to compile from source? theres no xml to edit to just expand the boundaries?
I dont have photoshop, but i need to have a see through or opaque picture to use as my lockscreen background. can anyone help me, or even make a quick one? with a grey background if its opaque.
BUMP! come on people someone must have photoshop, this would only take 5 minutes.
doesn't the one from the other thread work?....
http://www.mediafire.com/imageview.php?quickkey=idhtmtuqyrm
..... Then have a play with DroidExplorer?... apparently it can do the ADB stuff for you......
EDIT..... Droid Explorer - 0.8.6.0 [06/19/2010] - Conan O'Brian Edition
Why someone with photoshop. It's just as doable with Gimp, a totally free image editor.
i dont have an image editor, slash i didnt know that. And its not the actual lock screen or anything i need.
i downloaded lockbot and you can use your own image as the background, so if i got a transparent one then i would have a transparent lockscreen..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=707599
i modified the file from Cronos 1.7.1 so i'm not sure it will work for villainrom...
if you do want to try it ... do a nandroid or bart backup before you PUSH the file onto /system/framework folder
i think i tried that one before, but i'm not sure, i'll give it a shot.
it says verification failed?
If your looking to set an image as a lockscreen background its not as easy as having a transparent image. Android does not treat it as if it is transparent.
Hoping someone can work out a fix soon though.
oh i see. well thats helpful thanks. Also when trying to flash all these zips that people are putting together for me, when i try to flash them i get an error "verification failed"!!

There was a Vanilla ROM with transparent locksscreen. I think it even was SuperHero and I remember it coz people did not like transparent lockscreens. It made screen look messy. Also some other vanilla ROMs have semi transparent lockscreens - it shows only wallppaper, not all icons and widgets - which I found very cool, especially if you like live wallpapers. I want to make it work on sense ROMs, don't know how so

Have you got a rooted phone?
Rooted phone running Stock (Sprint) rom.
I've resized many images for my lockscreen perfectly, but every time I set one, they get horribly decompressed.
Is there a workaround for this?
Attached is what I'm talking about.
Just making sure, is your image 320x455?
And in your screenshot, should we be looking at the artifacting in the background? Or something else? Because it looks like that's present in the whole image, in the lock bar and the notification bar too.. just a result of jpeg compression.

Yes, size 320x455.
I've attached the original for comparison. A lot of the red around the gun is distorted, instead of the smooth quality that it should be.
The problem is, or I think is, the phone compresses images no matter the size for lockscreen wallpapers. When I set the same image to my Home screen background, it appears perfectly fine.
So, would there be a workaround for the lockscreen wallpapers?
Anyone?
(Bump)
Not familiar with this but look for someone named impaler, he is into themeing and such. If he doesn't know he may be able to point you in the right direction.

Btw if you get it working can you send me a download for that, it looks good.

You might want to try an app called 'CropWallpaper'. I use it for my wallpaper, but you may be able to use it with your lockscreen. I'm on CM6 right now, so I can't check how it will work with sense, sorry.
I think you need to size it for the actual screen size of the Hero. On the home screens it is larger because it has to scroll through several other screens.

No worries, and thanks for the suggestion. Sadly it didn't work. But it's handy for normal wallpapers.

That didn't work out well either. The exact size of the screen is 320x480, 320x455 is when you take into account for the notification bar.
Sadly, there's no current fix for this ( that I've found ), if anyone else reading this thread comes up with something, please post.
Thanks to everyone who has commented thus far and to theimpaler747 for trying very hard to help. I really appreciate it guys.
I have been theming a KF1 build from the leaked KF1 firmware (Now have moved on to Cognition 5.2 but have the same problem) and have run into one seemingly small problem - - the drop down shade shows black text on the very first notification (for Lookout app). Please see attached screenshot.
I haven't been able to find the correct xml file to edit. Does anyone know of the "usual" file I need to edit to show white text instead of the black?
I apologize if this question has been answered before and I appreciate any help given.
ADDITION: I posted this in the Q&A section and have gotten no response. Hopefully someone will know a solution.
It also occurred to me yesterday to try and lighten the background to make the black text more visible. I'm currently trying that path but if anyone can tell me which text color attribute in which xml file for what apk to change to white, I would be grateful.
Thank you for your time and consideration!
That is because that notification is run by Lookout, you would have to edit/change some settings in Lookout to get the text to be white.

Thank you....I thought of that but I'm kind of bummed because Lookout updates semi-constantly. After an update I assume the text would go back to black.
I'll try it and see......stay tuned!
EDIT: Can't seem to find the apk for Lookout (not in system/apps) which makes sense since it is a security app. Oh, well....trying opacity with the background next
any chance of you uploading your theme at all?

srsly, looks sexy
You could try to do what I thought up of and make the background for notifications a gradient so though black text would still be harder to read, it wouldn't be invisible.

I will create a full CWM zip file tomorrow and upload it here.
My DSL is down until my ISP brings a new modem tomorrow.
Please know that I didn't do anything extraordinary...just changed some png files from some roms I liked as well as changed some colors here and there. I will try to give some credit where I remember.
I did add the AOSP lockscreen mod as well as the ui mod. Let me figure out who to credit so we all can recognize all the talented devs we all rely upon as well as admire.
Thank you for your interest and consideration!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
I tried to upload my theme and screenshots but I think I uploaded the wrong files.
I did a complete reinstall of Cog 5 v2 to check the theme and it seems I'm missing something.
Oh well....learning here. Stay tuned!
I started fresh but am having problems making the shade background transparent.
Every graphic I can think of in SystemUI and Framework-res are 10-50% transparent and all I get is this gray background on the shade. Maddening!!
I borrowed the shade graphic from Blue Darkness just to test (in case anyone unzips the files) so I can see if I get a transparent shade.
Any suggestions would be apppreciated. Thanks!
ADDITION: For some reason every screenshot app I use discolors the blues and the reds/oranges. I apologize for the weird screenshots.
I am confused, what are you trying to do?
Oh, and protip, use ddms.bat in your tools folder of your sdk for screenshots. Not only is it easier to get the screenshots onto your computer (cause they already are...) they won't be scewy.
