[Q] "Connecting to DM server..." - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Any clue as to what "Connecting to DM server..." actually is, how do you stop it from saying that, and finally, how do you get rid of the 2 little arrows on the top of the screen, that are the result of that "Connecting..."?? Thanks!!

If you enter Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Menu button > Filter > Tap ALL > You will see Device Management.
This app checks for firmware updates from AT&T.
Also in the Applications setting menu you have Running Services. You may tap to close the Device Management service.
You can also use a startup manager to stop Device Management from auto-starting.
Also, you can root the device and use Titanium Backup to completely uninstall it. However you'll lose the ability to update Over the Air.

How to fix "Unfortunately Setup Wizard Has Stopped" Without Losing Data!!!

Open settings --> Apps --> Tap the three dot menu in the top right --> Tap "Show system" --> Scroll down and tap "Setup Wizard" (If you're on Cm not the one with the icon) --> Tap "Force stop" to temporarily disable popups in settings --> Tap permissions --> Turn on permissions for "Contacts" and "Phone" --> Hit the home button --> Profit.
Good find and very useful having just had this problem myself! Thanks.
Another Issue with Package Installer
After lots of patience i made it to the System Apps and down to Setup Wizard, but when i click on the 3 dots, the screen flashes black...goes back to the apps list.... and gives a popup 'Unfortunately Package Installer has Stopped'.
I also cannot get there from system permissions.

Huawei P9- scren overlay settings- whatsapp permission- nth I found works!

Hi.
I have Huawei P9 and am struggling to add my contacts on WhatsApp.
I saw go WhatsAppp-> Contacts-> I get a notification ' To help you message friends allow Whatsapp access to your contacts. Tap Settings-permission, and turn Contact On; so I press SETTINGS-> Permissions, it states 'no permission granted', press on Permissions -> give me options of Camera, Contact, Image, Microphone,Sms etc-> whichever I select let;s say Contacts, it gives me a notification ' Screen overlay detected, to change this permission setting you need to turn off the screen overlay settings.Apps-. It gives me the option to Open Settings, where I turn the Draw over the other apps OFF ( it does not show WhatsApp here any way) and then there is nth else to do.
I have turned the Draw over other settings On and OFF, restarted it but I just go in circles.
Anyone can help?

This is a known issue with marshmallow roms.
It occurs due to some filter apps such as cf lumen, twilight, and lately this has been happening for me with floatify.
So I would suggest to disable any such apps and try again.

Push notifications disabled

Hello everyone
I turned off all battery saving endeavors that I'm aware of:
1- Settings > battery & performance > power > battery saver > OFF
2- Settings > battery & performance > power > battery use > more > battery saver > turn on automatically > OFF
I noticed that after pressing more, if you select the second option: battery optimization
It lists apps that are either optimized or not optimized (that you can optimize)
I noticed that what's app & gmail were optimized by default.
Maybe that explains why their push notification was turned off overnight?
If you click the settings icon in the power section, it opens a menu. In that menu there's an option:
Clear cache when device is locked:
You have the option from setting it trigger from 1 minute, to 30 minutes or never.
What cache are they referring to?
3- under developer options
I turned off MIUI optimization
I left 'memory optimization' on low
Maybe the 'low' turned off push notifications during the night?
So, how is miui optimization different from memory optimization?
I noticed that this morning I did not receive what's app or gmail notifications till I opened each individual application.
This is a huge issue because I need push notifications to be like their namesake: PUSHED

Did it work? Also try this:

Let us know what works exactly, thanks!

I don't know 😀
I'll find out throughout the day though, I guess.
I did also turn off:

In the above, I turned off optimization for those apps.
So, now I won't know whether memory optimization in developer options or whether battery optimization will resolve it.
Well. No more disabled push notifications.
Either this resolved it:
under developer options
I set 'memory optimization' on off
Or this
I noticed that after pressing more, if you select the second option: battery optimization
It lists apps that are either optimized or not optimized (that you can optimize)
my wechat/messenger/pebble all work fine.
Gmail for some reason isn't automatically syncing so it doesn't receive the messages.
This is incredibly frustrating.
I read that the gmail app from google play works better than the one in the mi app store.
I uninstalled the mi one, installed the google play one, and that worked.
I also noticed that in my flailing about, I turned on the 'WLAN only" option in settings->sync, which was a bad move. (not my root cause though).
I added everything I tried (and I did a lot) to my FAQ.

Apparently it didn't work.
I slept at about 11 pm
I woke up this morning to notifications from about 1 am
Then when I opened the app, I received messages from 2 am and onwards.
I checked the above settings. They were the same as before.
Very weird. Discomforting experience.
Try my suggestions in the thread to disable MIUI optimizations to reslove late/missing notifications problem:
underlines said:
Disable MIUI battery saver and fix missed/late notifications
Settings > Battery & performance > Manage apps' battery usage > Off
Settings > Battery & performance > Power > Battery saver > Battery saver toggle off
Settings > Notifications & status bar > App notifications > select apps that can show floating notifications and notifications on lockscreen
Security > Permissions > Auto start > select apps that should get notifications after reboot
Security > Settings icon > Cleaner settings > Clean automatically > turn off / Update automatically > turn off

This is the only one I hadn't done
Let's see
Ok some bad news
Today morning gmail was disabled
It could've spay been disabled yesterday but I didn't notice
I went to bed at 10 pm
Woke up at around 1 am
I found what's app enabled
But gmail was disabled
When I entered gmail, the last email received was a little after 11 pm
Then it refreshed & I saw emails from 12 am & 2 am
I fell asleep again & awoke again at around 4am
Same thing
Then finally woke up at around 6 am and the same thing happened
But since waking up & continuously using my phone, gmail is working fine. Emails are pushed.
It's surprising because I replicated the what's app settings to gmail.
Therefore they should be behaving the same.
Try this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...gcm&pcampaignid=APPU_1_YWdIWJ2-JML3vgSk-6qQDg
Ok
It turned out gmail was not synchronizing
See photo
I restarted that device & that resolved it
Why do you suppose that happened?

I'm not 100% but I think because google framework is installed, not part of the stock system,
that stuff like 'Google play services' has to be "kept active"' (autostarted, etc, etc) the same as wechat/gmail/etc.

I noticed that some themes can disable the push notifications. Perhaps you should try all the tweaks mentioned here when you are in the default theme first? Also, if you are in MIUI 10, some themes show a warning that they are not compatible with Miui 10 and that some parts of the "system" may not work properly. Did you get this message?

Live Message not working!

Hi, which apps are needed for live messages to work? I uninstalled live messages, but then reinstalled it but still no live messages< so am thinking there are other apps (dependencies) like stickercentre, or notes or emojiupdater etc. or something that I'm missing, to get live messages to work again, other Spen note taking functions etc work fine, just live messages not working, any ideas? thanks
try maybe (from https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Note8/Live-Messages/td-p/608700)
"...
Go to Settings > Apps > Show system Apps (click on the 3 vertical dots upper right of screen) >
Air Command > Storage > Clear Data and Clear Cache.
then
Go to Settings > Apps > Show system Apps (click on the 3 vertical dots upper right of screen) >
Live Message > Storage > Clear Data and Clear Cache.
Restart Phone
..."
Thanks will try.
