[Q] unlocked sgs but now shows no signal? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi had a search around but unable to find anyone who has had the same issue
unlocked sgs from UK t mobile to use vodafone sim.
all was ok till i changed the setting to stop 3g to improve battery life, sgs went to no phone signal (blue circle with line through it on top bar). put 3g useage back on but still no signal
had a look at my phone/status:
network = vodafone uk
service state = out of service
mobile network state = disconnected
if i set network automatically it says 'registered on network'
if i select vodafone from list i get 'your sim card does not allow connection to this network'
i have hard reset the phone, locked it and unlocked again, but still the same
also tried with o2 sim and get the same problem
== t-mobile sim still works==
is there a solution out there?

Try to manually create another APN
EDIT: my bad...you meant no phone signal. I have no clue but hope that you'll get the help that you need.

what needs to be entered in the fields?

i've had this happen on two phones..........one was due to me messing up the nv_data files. the other was fixed by reflashing.
take your pick

i haven't had the phone flashed
i only used ADB to get the Network Control Key which i then use to unlock the phone
can you suggest the next step for me
i assume the professional unlockers use a flashing method, should i get it unlocked by one of them?

its possible the imei has been blocked

if blocked tmobile customer service said that i should hear 3 beeps when i try to make a call, but i get a message that 'not registered on the network'

could it still be blocked even though i do not get the 3 beeps?
if it is not blocked is there anyway i can get this working on a vodafone sim?

[Q] SIM card reading problem

My i9000m on the Bell mobility network is not picking up data after an overnight charge with the phone turned on. Today - nothing. I do have phone use and I can access data on WiFi.
I am running stock ROM. I unlocked the phone using a Rogers SIM card, about a week ago, but went back to the Bell network immediately after with no problem. After unlocking I got the Kies to work and updated to UGJH2. Since then, the network access has been spotty but I've switching to WiFi then switching back and it's coming back. I purchased this phone with a different Bell SIM2 then put my old Bell SIM1 (from an Omnia2) in this device.
*#7465625# shows Personalizatiob Status
network lock [OFF]; Network sublock[OFF]; SP lock [OFF]; CP lock [OFF]
What I've tried
1) Switching to WiFi and back - no data
2) Putting SIM1 back into the Omnia 2 - O2 booted up and accessed the Bell network including data. CONCLUSION - The problem is not the SIM card.
3) Putting the SIM2 into the i9000m - no network access at all; not even phone. This SIM2 is working in the O2 and originally worked in the i9000m. Much to my surprise when I put SIM1 back in the SGS it still picks up the Bell network.
4) Squeezed the SIM holder blew out with compressed air in case it's just a physical problem with the SIM being held tight enough - SIM1 still not picking up data.
So it would seem that there is a problem with my SGS reading SIMs other than the one in use when whatever happened happened. Any suggestions on how to get other SIMs, even from the same network, to work? If I have to submit my phone to Bell I need to re-lock it. How do I do that?
Thanks for the help.
--- update---
relocked the phone using *7465625*638*# then 302610 and my unlock code. Power off / on still no data access. Now *#7465625# shows Personalizatiob Status - network lock [ON]; Network sublock[OFF]; SP lock [OFF]; CP lock [OFF]
first try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=789039&highlight=*#0011#
does it show which band it is using for data?
you can also try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8124344&postcount=45
install the APN on off
then flip it on / off and back to on
see if that helps
Thanks for the response.
I did the #*0011* It's flipping between the 850 on 5 and 1900 on 2 The DL and UL numbers are slightly different. I did have to reconnect to the APN.
How would this affect installing *other* Bell SIMS? That's what worries me the most - that it wouldn't read another Bell SIM that works in another phone.
the only time i see this happen is if you swap the SIM card when the phone is ON
if you turn off the phone, change between SIM1 and SIM2, then turn it back on, you should not see that problem
I know because i was playing around with multiple SIMs when we were researching the Unlock methods for this phone
I take out the battery before I change the SIM. I have to for the Omnia 2 so I just got in the habit. This is sounding worse and worse
although I was rushing off to work so maybe I didn't - hope springs eternal.
----resolution ---
sometimes you just have to call Bell, wade thru the 1st level support and get to someone who knows what's up. Apparently my phone plan changed today (I didn't know it was post dated) and the data feature was not provisioned even though it's a plan that includes data. The guy invoked the feature and poof - data. yay. AllGamer, thanks for your help.
you'r welcome
I did have the same problem, using 2 numbers from 2 telcos, both sims work fine on my iphone but I9000 fail to recognize 1 of these 2, no matter how I tried, I actually did all crazy things like insert couple paper layers between the sim and the sim slot to create additional pressure on the sim contact circuit.
Suck thing about this is non-recognizable sim has data plan with it, which I want to use on I900, finally I asked the carrier to issue a new sim and all thing work fine. It's a new sim type anyway. You may want to try this if all other means doesn't work.
The fix is easy I use to have a moto milestone and when this happened a simple reboot fixed the data connection.

SIM Unlock Code Screen Missing

Hi All,
I apologize in advance if that has been posted and responded to, but my searches have been unfruitful. My boss has the Motorola Droid 3, stock rom, NOT rooted on the Verizon network (in NYC). He will be traveling abroad to the mid-east and contacted VZW Global Services and they provided him with the SIM Unlock code.
I then proceeded to insert my AT&T SIM card into his phone and booted it up - in anticipation of the SIM Unlock Code screen so that when he gets to his destination country, all he'll have to do is insert the SIM card which he will purchase there.
Unfortunately, no such screen appeared. I was able to access the phone's other functions and was even able to go into Settings>Wireless Settings and switched the device to GSM/UMTS only (from the default 'Global' setting). Still, nothing occurred. I then forced it to search for a network (even though automatically connect was checked) and believe it or not, midway through its search, the phone completely rebooted on its own. I thought that maybe NOW, when the phone finishes loading, that it will ask me for the SIM Unlock Code. Well, it didn't. The phone just booted up normally and indicated that there was no service (bars with the red circle and slash through it).
We called Global Services back and they claimed that we will not see a SIM Unlock code for any US-Domestic carrier SIM cards (sounds fishy to me) and the SIM Unlock Code screen will appear ONLY when a Foreign/Non-US Carrier SIM Card is placed in the phone. My suspicion is that the Global Services rep doesn't know the difference b/t his a** and his elbow and was just saying anything that seemed plausible to get me off the phone. It would be VERY BAD if my boss travels to his destination and operates on the assumption that this will work once he inserts a foreign SIM card and for it not to work at all.
Any thoughts/insights into this would be VERY much appreciated and if this topic was already discussed on another thread, I would very much appreciate the link to that thread.
I have seen similar topics on other phone model threads, but none of the instructions in each of those respective threads had a solution that seemed applicable to this specific problem.
Many MANY thanks in advance!

You should most certainly see an unlock screen with a US based sim card. I used an old deactivated T-Mobile Sim card to get my unlock code prompt. try going to the phone dialer and enter *#*#4636#*#* - give it a sec and a menu will come up. In the menu scroll down a bit and you'll see a network selection bar. Tap the bar and select GSM Auto (PRL). You should immediately get a popup or perhapse after you back out of it. If not, scan for networks again. If it still gives you problems - PM me and we'll get it figured out.
network SIM unlock screen missing for T-Mobile US
Folks,
I am experiencing a similar issue as the original poster. No matter what I do, I can not get the Droid global (stock rom, v2.3.3) to attach to the T-Mobile network. If I follow the instructions"
*#*#4636#*#* - give it a sec and a menu will come up. In the menu scroll down a bit and you'll see a network selection bar. Tap the bar and select GSM Auto (PRL) ".
I see the screen momentarily flash the t-mobile network, then switch back to indicating that the network type is CMDA-1xrtt. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
BTW this sim works fine in a BB Bold 9000. Also it is just a simple voice/messaging sim - no data plan.
Never mind - after more research, seems I have a phone with the US carriers locked out. - off to see if I can update it

You can follow the guide to have the phone work and it will fix that.

You need to use a foreign Sim card, not an American one because Verizon disabled access to all other American gsm networks

I was to access the screen you mentioned however I was unable to get it to ask for my unlock code, any ideas?
I had the same issue. The unlock code was already put in. Though this may be, there is more you need to do to have it working on US carriers like AT&T.
The guide is here

I c, U have to use Non-US SIM CARD. otherwise U have to unlock the US radio first. but if U having trouble to pop the SIM Network Unlock Code screen, just put non-US SIM and set the mobile network from global to gsm/umts. these also apply to those whose troubled with subsidy lock, so they can input the code.
Worked for me with tmobile or att sim card in the phone. You have to backup rename the build.prop file in the system(Rename the old build.prop to build.bak) put the new build.prob file in the system, restart the phone and wa-la, it will ask you for an unlock code. Enter it give it 15 or so sec reboot the phone, select GSM/UMTS and wait 30sec to 2mins you will receive a signal.

No signal, hardware or software problem

Nexus 6 UK user on EE network. Started to have this problem about 2 mouths ago no signal emergency calls only, reboot the phone still no signal remove sim and put it back in works. This is happening about twice a day. Was running latest stock with root so changed to chroma custom rom thinking it could be radio problem but still happening. Got a replacment sim thinking it was damaged still happening. Phone is over a year old so starting to think hardware problem. Any help would be great.
Cheers
Have you checked your IMEI number?

Hi bushako the IMEI sames okay, I have flashed stock MMB29Q on today with no root to see if it makes any different.
sounds like neither a hardware nor software issue, but a carrier issue.

When you remove and replace the sim card, is the phone on or off? Reason I'm asking is because I'm thinking about a possible problem with the contact pins of the sim card *slot*.
Also wouldn't hurt to check on the sim status next time it stops working.
System settings --> about phone --> (check that baseband version is showing something reasonable, then Status --> SIM Status and check what is under signal strength, cellular network type, service state, cellular network state, and IMEI.
Another thing that you may want to look at, is at System Settings --> wireless&networks/more --> cellular networks --> Preferred network type, and also in Network operators, make sure that you hit the button "choose automatically".
Now, the reason I want you to set it to choose automatically, is because of a glitch I've seen a few times on my service provider here in Canada. If it is set hard to my service provider, occasionally, it will be unable to connect to the network. This is especially the case when I'm *entering* a service area from somewhere that has no service. Note that my service provider uses only ONE MCCMNC, so go figure. Just make sure that you select choose automatically.
You can also try resetting the radio by putting it into airplane mode, counting to 10, and then back to normal.

No signal/voice/data - Restricted access changed. Voice service is blocked

Just as the title says, the phone was working fine then suddenly it lost all signal and went into some kind of restricted mode, it's a friend's phone and he is almost 84 years old.
I have flashed the latest firmware and factory reset to no avail, also changed sim cards and here comes the weird behavior:
I don't have a standard-sized sim card so I had to take it from my USB LTE Modem, it's from another carrier and the phone detected the sim card, went with a full -77db HSDPA signal but data doesn't work at all, it seems to be disabled on status, even configuring the proper APNs it refuses to work. Can't test voice and all my other working sim cards are nano.
Inserting any other sim from another carrier results in no signal/restricted access but the phone still downloads the Internet/MMS configuration.
Have tried setting it manually to WCDMA and GSM, nothing seems to work, only my data sim worked so far *without the data*.
Maybe the IMEI is banned for some reason?
Never heard of this issue until now
Have you tried to flash a firmware that aren't from any carrier?

Yes I did, flashed the USA unbranded kitkat rom.
Just got the chance to test with two sim cards from different carriers:
Carrier #1: Registered on network, no data traffic, voice call drops just after trying to call, signal ok
Carrier #2: Registered on network, data traffic seems ok but can't navigate, shows H+ and proper APN and traffic arrows activity but when you try a call it says "Mobile Network Not Available"
Can't send SMS, they stick with a "Sending" status and wont get past it.
This phone was purchased unlocked without a contract, can't see how the IMEI could be banned, plus we do not have regularization for IMEI ban in my country, it's currently a mess.
On a side note it does not detect the sim's phone number which it does on any other phone.
Maybe it's some hardware related issue?

My phone can't detect my Sim's phone number either (though i don't know If it is only for me)
Have you tried to flash a ROM? (from XDA)

The sim number information depends on the sim itself, most carriers register this information within the simcard so when you go to status you may retrieve your own phone number but I have seen sim cards without this info. The sim cards I tested do have this information and were available on a Galaxy S5 and Xperia Z1 but this E1 fails to read this information which kinda indicates a problem. I don't remember the codes for debugging the sim and network info or I'd give that a shoot.
I will try a custom rom, maybe a different kernel and see if the behavior changes any bit.
I am bidding on a Z1 Compact for this friend, should be a proper replacement and a hell of an upgrade, just concerned about E1's loudness which is certainly superior.
Interesting, I also get this if I don't reboot my phone after like 5 days.
