[Q] XDA lli wireless adapter - PDA2, XDA IIi, 2020i General

Is it possible to use the wireless connection on the xda lli to connect a laptop to the internet.
basically i have a laptop that doesnt have a wireless card in it so wondering if its possible to plug the xda into the laptop via the cradle and use the phones wireless adapter to run internet through the laptop.

That should be possible, but it will raise your handy costs, in case you use radio/gprs!
There might be a way to connect to a hot spot and use the device to akt as modem.

wireless modem is what i was thinking not using gprs just running through my home wireless internet connection i have in the house rather than having to plug the laptop into the router via a cable if any of that make any sense.

Diamond and dLAN

So at home, in some remote rooms where my Wi Fi doesn't reach, I have a dLAN going through the power supply... Which I usually use to connect my PC on...
Also, when I connect my TD to my computer, it uses the Internet connection for all data transfers.
So my question is : Rather that having to turn on my computer to have Internet access on my Diamond, is it possible to use directly the signal from the dLAN (it's a Devolo one, so it has a RJ 45 connection, and a USB 2.0 so I guess some USB 2.0 <-> Mini-USB adaptator should exist) on my Diamond?

I strongly doubt that you can use the USB connection, because the dLan device needs to be connected to a HOST-enabled USB port, which the Diamond simply does not have.
But there is an even better solution for you, which even frees you from any wires...
---> Connect a WiFi Accesspoint to the RJ45 of the dLAN, use the WiFi in this new area to connect to the Diamond....
Good Luck
That's what I'm planing to do anyway, but 100 euros is a little to much for a simple range extender knowing that a WiFi router costs about 50 euros...
There's a Belkin one on ebuyer.com for £30.99

LAN to USB

When travelling, very often check into hotels that do not have wifi but only LAN points in the room. So can't access Internet with the HD2.
Is there such an adapter that connects from the LAN point to mini USB to be plugged into the HD2 for internet access?
If there is, the the HD2 access internet with it's stock ROM or does it need some application?
Thanks
Wow now that would be the deal!!!
Thoughts anybody?
I googled and found some adapters, but not sure if they can be used on the HD2.
As stated they can be used on laptops which do not have RJ45 LAN inputs. So these can convert from RJ45 to USB for laptops.
What about HD2, can they work or what apps are needed to make it work?
Just use a pocket router.

Thanks, that is a good alternative. Converting wired to wireless so that HD2 can access, with the added advantage that more than one device can access the internet.
Appreciate more suggestions from anyone.
OR if money is not an issue.. try this :

more compact, more functional.. less wires needed ( plugs directly into the wall)
PS: could serve as a repeater.. so u can use it at home to enhance your wireless network.
why not just access the internet via your mobile provider's gsm network?
evidently, if its a different country from you home country, this concept will make a lot of sense. better still, if u can plug a PC into the LAN connection, then if u are using windows Vista or 7, you can tether Wifi from your laptop!
Look at £2.99 adapter from Amazon.
It connects your USB cable to Lan port.

Maybe he wants to use the internet more than his allowed amount. Also, if he had a laptop, why on earth would he want to use his HD2 to browse the internet???

When overseas, using GSM for internet access is very very costly. When I travel I don't bring along a laptop as I carry lots of camera equipment.
So that's why looking for a lighter solution for internet access when back in hotels.

Thanks will check them out. Actually I done quite a bit of search yesterday and found the ASUS WL-330GE affordable and suit my needs. But am not sure if it's available locally. Waiting for reply from local distributor, else will have to mail order.

You're right, but can easily convert from USB to mini USB.

You just plug your data/charging cable that you have with you when you travel to charge your phone, into the adapter.

No converter, just use HD2 data cable, this plugs into adapter I suggested.

But most adapters come with standard USB plugs.
Thanks to Paten, I've got a solution to my problem.
Got a ASUS pocket travel router, WL-330gE yesterday and tested with my home LAN.
Plugged in ethernet cable from my home router to the unit powered up and works perfectly first time. HD2 detected it and I was able to login the security codes.
Plug N Play, no setup required. For just S$80/-. I would recommend this unit anytime to anyone looking for such a solution.
Thank you all for your valuable tips.

The £2.99 adapter from Amazon, has a 'female' USB socket, so HD2 cable will plug straight into it.

That may be but does Windows Mobile recognize a lan connection when it's plugged in that way? Maybe it does. £2.99 seems like a cheap price, let us know if it works.

Hi all,
Should not work since , at least for the time being, there is no way to profit from Leo's USB HOST capabilities .
In spite of
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=638201
i'm personally still doubtfull that Leo has such capability.
However if interested see also:

I can add that a proper WM driver for USB-LAN conv. would be necessary.
In the past (for an old device definitely having working Usb-Host capabilities) i tried without success to find such a driver.

[Q] USB Tethering Xbox Live??

Stupidly i left my xbox live wireless adapter at university over Christmas. Is there anyway to plug the usb from my phone into the xbox and usb tether xbox live??
or wireless ???? please help
Late reply but only just saw this one. Your XBOX will not and will never have the necessary USB drivers to identify the device plugged in, and therefore wired tether will nto work.
Use s crossover cable from your laptops ethernet jack to your xbox and share yours pc's connection
you should be able to tether via wifi using mobile ap in the wireless settings. i've used it on my ps3 many times. is worth noting the sgs will run very hot & unles you have really good reception you'll get lag.

Using wired ethernet - not 3g or wifi

In some places i do not want to use 3g or wifi but have a wired ethernet port free on the router. Some apps only work via wifi or 3g. I use the media importer app with USB OTG cable and a USB/LAN converter for email browsing. Is there a way I can trick apps such as (BBC iPlayer, sky go) to work via the wired LAN port? I would rather not root.
Απ: Using wired ethernet - not 3g or wifi
Why don't you use something like this, (I can't post URLs, just search eBay for "EDUP 150Mbps Portable Mini Wireless Wifi AP Client") and connect via WiFi to the wired lan?
It acts as a mini access point, a repeater or a WiFi client, and it is powered via any USB port, or a provided 5V power supply.

i thought he don't want to use wifi ?
one thing that can be tried is to use iptables. Basically the same tricks that is used by ProxyDroid. Just re-route everything that goes to the wifi interface to the wired interface. Though that means the wifi interface may still needs to be up, but not actually connected to the router.

Reverse tethering to a router for internet access?

Hello, if i enable usb reverse tethering on the M7 and connect it to the usb port of an active router, will an internet connection be established to the phone? Will the access speeds be similar to an ethernet/LAN connection?

Afaik the USB port on your router will give Internet access to the device connected to it (like a printer) but not the opposite. It might be possible if you flash a custom firmware on your rooter. The speed of a LAN isn't determined by the Internet connection speed. All the machines connected to the rooter will communicate between them at normal speed. Internet speed will be limited to your phone mobile data speed (if its possible to make this work)
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Labs
That is very helpful. Basically by reverse tethering to a compatible router's usb port I will be able to have internet connection without the use of an ethernet cable, as very few phones have usb otg ethernet drivers installed.
