[Q] OTA update on Bell Galaxy S Vibrant ? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

On my Motorola Milestone, I could go into "settings" and search for OTA updates, on my Galaxy S Vibrant (from Bell) I can't find that function.
Anyone know where I can find it, or is it disable on our version and we can only update through Kies (sigh...)?

No OTA updates on the Galaxy S just KIES.

Rediculous...

I see that this thread talks about OTA updates, but I don't see where it mentions that our phone doesn't have the "search for an update" for OTA function...
Anyway, I got my answer thanks to TriC_101

How exactly? Plus you don't have to wipe your phone. Every other Galaxy S phone seems to do OTA updates. The Facinate and Epic4G just had one.

safer in regards to not getting stuck or breaking the flash on mid air

I'm going to look into developing a OTA somehow for the device

Try searching before posting. This is nothing new, just AT$T trying to reach customers who don't hang out in forums like this. This is the same update that was released on 2/24. If you are currently on a custome ROM, you would have to flash back to stock using Odin. beware, if you update to OEM Froyo you will not be able to root or install CWM with the new 3e recovery. I'd suggest you do some reading up on the issues and benefits of stock Froyo before you make up your mind to upgrade.
Thank you for your help, But if I'm not going to be able to root it back then I wont update. Unfortunately I'm not very experienced and I'm afraid of bricking my phone so flashing roms kinda scares me. I'd love to be brave and do all that kind of things. Oh sorry I tried to search but my app kept force closing.

There is a way to root the stock Froyo, but the old methods either don't work or need to be adjusted. I'd wait until I was at a PC so I could do some searches and read up on the issues. Froyo is definitely better than Eclair and a worthwhile upgrade, but still somewhat lacking compared to what the devs here are cooking up.

[Q] Newbie question, please don't kill me!

So I had an old cyanogen mod flashed on my phone and nothing was going wrong. I think I flashed it in late November 2010, early December 2010. So I was fine with that and then I got bored. So I flashed the Dilli ROM and the market stopped working so I flashed to Serendipity and that's where the real problem started. Every time I would get a call, I would lose service automatically and the call would fail. I just thought it was a problem with the way I flashed it. So I then flashed the Phoenix ROM hoping that would fix the dialer problem but it didn't. I am currently on the newest phoenix ROM and I can download apps from the market, send and receive texts, make calls and even use the internet. The only thing I can't do is receive calls. I know when a call is coming because the phone starts to ring but before it shows me who is calling, it automatically loses service and fails the call. Has anyone else ever had this problem? Is there anything I can do? Any information would really help. Thank you!!
Have you tried flashing to stock?

The fact that you flashed multiple roms without knowing how to flash back to stock is idiotic. Flashing back to stock is the one thing you should know how to do because it can save your phone.
Read this ENTIRE guide and follow it step by step or you will continue to run into the problems you are having. These anomalies cant be diagnosed by us because your phone probably has files from numerous roms on it by now. Flashing back to stock and using a master clear allows you to diagnose issues much easier.

Hey noob, how about next time you post in the CM7 sticky instead of opening a new thread?

Because I'm an idiot
That's most likely the modem. Find out what modem CM7 uses and as long as it's the same base as you're using now (i9000/i897), find the CWM for that modem and flash it.

You call that a slam? Tearing him apart? You must be a liberal. The ROM-specific stickies are here for a reason. All these posts outside the stickies just make sharing that knowledge you speak of harder. Why is it so hard to comprehend that if there's a sticky with a dedicated subject that maybe that's where any posts on that subject should go? XDA is also about rules and they exist for the benefit of all.
Please use a search before opening a new thread or post rom questions in the provided Q&A rom thread.

[Q] upgrade galaxy note (n7000) to Jelly Bean?

As per the title, I'm wondering if this is now possible? I've checked via settings => update - but it says no update available.
- Is this update now available?
- If so, does it only apply to phones that are rooted? How do I go about getting the phone rooted?
This should be q&a, report yourself.
There is a leaked version out called ls7 or ls2,both available to download in development section. As they're leaks, you'll need to be rooted, follow drive ketans thread on rooting, easiest way is to install philz kernel via stock recovery.
Don't post questions in general, it's possible they'll just be closed.

Back up the bus people. You originally posted this;
"This should be q&a, report yourself."
Clearly, you came back and edited your post later. I thank you for that - but people, ease up on the assumptions and judgements. I never asked for spoonfeeding from anyone!
Is there a likelihood that this upgrade will be officially supported at some stage?

Yes available as a leak.
The update is not official till at least December.
That is why you couldn't see a new JB update from Software Update (OTA).

You need not necessarily be rooted to install JB.
You can flash XXLS2, the earliest leak available from Odin 3.04 (The ROM flasher for Sammy phones)
XXLS7 is known to be unsoundly slow. It's probably not optimised yet from Sammy's side.
However the infamous Multi-window feature is available on XXLS7.
If you really want the latest and greatest aka XXLS7 with all the bells and whistles,
you need to be rooted. As for that, do your own research. :victory:

I assume you mean XXLS7 from leak, not XXLS7 cooked by xda devs. Because the last one is actually faster than XXLS2, and battery life better. No match.
@livebyte : Thanks for taking the time out for your comprehensive post. I think I will hold off and wait for the official update. That was what I was referring to when I posted initially. I appreciate that there are alternative roms available - but if the official becomes available sometime this month, then I guess that's the path of least resistance.

JB update is an extremely popular topic , so are Samsung devices
no online community can curb its freedom and growth and popularity
dont worry it will grow its roots and branches soon enough.
Right. That thread had already spilled its seeds here and there.

[Q] Help me about the update!!!

Hi everybody, I'm a new user. I just bought a new G2 phone of Verizon and I don't know how to update it up to 4.4.2. The seller told me that I could use the flashtool to update it, but I can image to do that. I've read a topic that guides us to do that but it's not so clear.
It's here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2699123&page=37
So can anybody do me a favour by letting me know the concrete process? Do we need to connect the phone to the PC to run the adb shell or we can do it on our phones? How we open the adb shell on our phones?
And one more thing, I have to mention about the "auto rotate". Does anyone have a problem with it after update?
