Please help - my phone won't start - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I've been using my phone for a 1 or 2 months now. Today quite often I couldn't send text messages. This happened before so I restarted the phone.
However after rebooting, the phone displayed the logo and then the screen went totally black. I have no idea what went wrong.
Anyone with any input would be really appreciated

i tried ClockworkMod Recovery but still no luck

what did you do in Clockwork Recovery?
What did you install before the phone went black?

i didn't do anything, just restarted the phone and it happened..really weird
so i pressed power button + up volume + home button >> reinstall the zip file listed in Clockwork Recovery...

okay then, go back into the Recovery mode
select the option to Wipe Data and Wipe Cache
then you should be able to boot back into the phone normally
it takes about 10 to 20 sec after a clean wipe

thanks, seems like the last option for me (
anyway i tried and it worked..
is it possible that i could recover all the data back?

nope, that was the problem something in the data kept your phone from booting
calendar, contacts, and messages will sync back automatically with your gmail account
apps will need to be reinstalled

[Q] MIUI 2.3.4 for Galaxy S Gone wrong

Hi All - while in the process upgrading from the previous version of MIUI to this latest one, I accidentally selected the 'restart system option after formatting the system, cache and data without flushing the new ROM and now the phone won't boot up. It goes to the main Galaxy S screen followed by Galaxy S Glitch screen then it runs some coding (in seconds so i don't know what is says) and then back to main Galaxy screen in a loop.
What I have tried
> Going to recovery mode with vol up + home + power button (released @ first Samsung Screen) but then it goes back to second Galaxy S Glitch screen in the same loop.
> Going to download mode with vol down + home + power button and it does the same as going into recovery mode.
> Tried to do go into recovery and download mode multiple times using different combinations of vol up, vol down, home and power button without success.
> Read through the threads here but I was not able to find anything with the same or similar problem problem
> I tried to follow the help provided by Thyrador on this forum
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1109110 with Odin except using the jig method and no go
> Connecting phone to ODIN keeps on going rebooting in the phone in a loop as well.
I know if I can go into recovery mode I will be able to flush the new ROM but getting there is the problem.
I would appreciate your help with this and hope there is a fixable solution.

I have done that a few times and both CWM and download mode should be there.
Make sure everytime you try the 3 buttons you actually remove the battery before trying.
K.
Edit: the coding you are talking about is CWM trying something and that's shy I think it is still there.
Did you just format system?

Thanks for your response
I actually formatted the system, data and cache without flushing the new ROM.
I tried what you said about removing the battery but that didn't show anything on the screen when I tried the 3 buttons. Is that what you meant?
cheers

What I meant was a bit dumb as since you have a bootoop you would have removed the battery anyway each time to try.
I normally flash the same way like you and I always do a factory reset (which formats Data and cache and I do the system manually. Unless soemthing has gone seriously wrong I don't see why you would not be able to get back to recovery?
I have even done it today actually and managed to go back to recovery.
I would say try and boot into download mode. Did you use Download Mode in the past? Are you sure it is there?
I read somewhere else someone saying that it does not always work the first time. Give it a few tries.
Your last option would be the JIG obviously but hopefully you should be able to get it sorted without.
K.
To tell you the truth I always use an app to boot the phone into recovery or download mode however one of my work colleagues has always being able to reboot my phone into any of these modes using the three buttons - not sure how. I will continue to try anyway.
Thanks again for your response and for give me hope that this has happened to you in the past.
cheers

Can't access CWM recovery anymore

Hello,
Here is my problem, wanting to flash a theme on my Xperia Z, I had to perform a cache cleaning, this one was unusually long (~5minutes), so I brutally shut down the phone via power + volume up.
I wasn't aware of:
Phone hangs when cleaning cache?
Just leave it for a few minutes, it's needs some time to clean cache

Unfortunately it is now impossible for me to get back to the recovery (LED turns green but does not change to purple while holding volume up).
I already tried:
- Reinstall CWM recovery
- Install TWRP recovery hoping "overwrite" CWM (does not work either)
- Uninstall TWRP recovery
- Use the "reboot in recovery" option via clockworkmod and application TWRP (just reboot the phone normally)
edit:
- I now tried to do a factory reset but it's not working, nothing happen when I click "erase all data", can't tell if it's related though...
Having no other ideas I think it would be best to totally remove CWM recovery (via adb ?) and then reinstall it "properly"
Thanks
Update: Just tried to do a factory reset via settings but I doesn't work, nothing happen when I click "erase all data", can't tell if it's related though. Is there any other way to do a factory reset so I can go back to normal ?
Thanks

[Q] Stuck in first Cyanogenmod boot?

Hi guys, first time posting here, sorry if a question like this has already been asked but I've looked around and haven't managed to solve my problem yet.
So I have rooted my Samsung Galaxy Mini II (GT-S6500T) and used Odin 3.07 to install ClockworkMod 6.0.3.2 onto it; I then booted it into recovery mode and installed ZIP from SD card, selected CyanogenMod 10.2 ("cm-10.2-20131202-UNOFFICIAL-jenad.zip"), followed instructions etc. installed Google Apps and all that.
Now, when I selected to start up the phone again, it just gets stuck in the Cyanogenmod boot screen, the blue arrow just circles around on and on (I understand that it usually takes a long time but I don't think it's meant to take over half an hour... also, every now and then I notice it kind of makes a low vibrate sound?).
I've read that to fix it you can reboot it into recovery mode and reflash it but the problem is I can't even get into the recovery mode. If I force the phone off (e.g. by removing battery) and hold Vol Up + Vol Down + Home + Power to boot recovery mode, nothing happens. If I just hold Power it starts up and goes straight into boot sequence.
I do have a backup of my previous settings and all that saved - one saved on my external SD card and the same file saved on my computer, so if I can somehow load that back it would be great I guess.

I mentioned earlier I cannot enter recovery mode. When I hold the button combination to go into it, nothing happens.
Earlier I managed to get into download mode (Vol Down + Home + Power) and I reflashed a stock firmware, but now my phone is stuck in a boot loop, it just shows the Samsung screen and vibrates every now and then. I still cannot access recovery mode.
Managed to fix the problem but thanks for the help anyway. Followed one of the solutions here and removed everything, held power for 1 min, plugged my phone into the computer and managed to get into recovery mode. From there I did full wipe, wipe cache, wipe Dalvik cache, format /system (probably only necessary to do full wipe but I dunno), then restarted into download mode and used Odin to reflash stock rom, then reloaded recovery mode and reloaded my backup.
edit: My question now is, I'm not sure what I've done wrong in the process of installing Cyanogenmod to screw up this badly. Is it absolutely necessary to format /system before installing it? I did do full wipe, cache and Dalvik cache and mounted /system prior to rebooting and loading Cyanogenmod.
what i do > install rom > reboot > install google apps .. I had this problem aswell a while ago. what also can be the problem is when u don't format correctly..

Have You as well was unable to go into recovery mode and stuck on bootloop ? One thing I can do is to use Odin, tried to flash some stock firmware with no result. Still no acces to recovery and still Samsung logo loop. I searched, read many topics but nothing helped. Is there something except Riff Jig that could be done ? Thanks for response
-Flash stock rom via Odin
-Flash cwm via Odin
-Pull out battery
-Connect phone to pc (without battery)
-Wait until screen turns on
-Hold recovery combo keys until samsung logo shows (home+volup +voldown +power)
-put battery back quickly
-You should be in recovery now :wipe data, cache, dalvik cache
-Reboot.
I was in similar situation, if not identical. This worked for me. Good luck.
Edit: I didn't see you fixed it already. Ignore the post.

Help! Stock Moto X bootlooping suddenly

Hi people,
I hoped I would never have to ask for help with my phone, but its randomly bootlooping and I have no idea why or how to fix it.
Basically, I was updating 2 apps on google play, one app updated so I went to open it while other app was updating, and my phone froze. This was slightly strange as it doesn't happen often, but google play always makes my phone lag when updating apps so it wasn't completely unexpected. So held down power button to restart it, then made that final app update again, locked it and left it. 10 minutes later I went to unlock my phone but found it seemingly turned off and feeling extremely hot. turned it on again, and bootlooped (did the 'moto worlds' animations thing then got stuck on rippling moto logo). Absolutely no idea what could have caused it. THis is where I need your guys' help, cause I have no experience of this on a moto X. I held down power button+voldown and got a menu (no idea what its called), tried every option and nothing did anything, there was no recovery, factory and SB tools went to bootloop. pls help!
Thanks in advance!

If everything is stock with stock recovery then hold power + volume down and it should boot into fastboot mode. From there choose recovery and press the volume up. If you get into a screen with a red exclamation mark and a android guy then hold power and volume up for 2 seconds and release. This will bring up the recovery and from there choose wipe cache partition and press power button. This will wipe the cache and hopefully should fix the bootloop you are having.

this hasn't worked, it was seemingly stuck trying to wipe the cache for over 5 minutes, so I held power button to reboot it and it still bootloops.
Okay I managed to wipe cache and complete it, hasn't worked, and when I went to do it again it reboots after 10 seconds of trying to wipe it. Am I right in assuming I'll have to wipe data?
If you are still having issues....yes...you may have to try doing a factory reset. Data will be wiped.
If that doesn't help, you may have to flash stock firmware fresh. If you can get your current version files.
Don't downgrade. You'll likely brick.
Yup, ended up wiping data and now its fine. Thanks to google my photos were already backed up, so I didn't lose too much. Thanks anyway guys

What were the two apps you downloaded?

Could not do normal boot. Invalid KERNEL LENGTH.

This message I get when I try to power up my Note 9 N960F/DS.
I got it this way: Been running the same ROM for 2 years. Time to upgrade. Upgraded TWRP via the app. After downloading the ROM image to SD card, I tapped an app called Reboot, with the Recovery option. I suspect this app is from some old installation, and ended up on this unit via data restore. Now all I get is this message on a black screen. No logo, nothing. Message flashes once. If I plug into PC, message flashes repeatedly. Cannot boot to recovery using Vol-+Pwr, Vol++Pwr ineffective.
I suspect I bricked the phone, but I seem to remember once breaking out of this 2 years back, I think. Any ideas, clues, anything?
Try this, power off phone. Press volume up and bixby button and while pressing buttons insert data cable, phone should go to downlaod mode. OPen odin and flash stock firmware.
OK, tried it, display showed the same message until I released the buttons, then flashed the message every 4 seconds until disconnected.
OK, got it into download mode, reflashed twrp, now it's in a boot loop. Will continue working this.
It took a few tries, but I not only got everything working, I restored my data backup and upgraded to Android 10. Thanks all!
