Hi people,
I hoped I would never have to ask for help with my phone, but its randomly bootlooping and I have no idea why or how to fix it.
Basically, I was updating 2 apps on google play, one app updated so I went to open it while other app was updating, and my phone froze. This was slightly strange as it doesn't happen often, but google play always makes my phone lag when updating apps so it wasn't completely unexpected. So held down power button to restart it, then made that final app update again, locked it and left it. 10 minutes later I went to unlock my phone but found it seemingly turned off and feeling extremely hot. turned it on again, and bootlooped (did the 'moto worlds' animations thing then got stuck on rippling moto logo). Absolutely no idea what could have caused it. THis is where I need your guys' help, cause I have no experience of this on a moto X. I held down power button+voldown and got a menu (no idea what its called), tried every option and nothing did anything, there was no recovery, factory and SB tools went to bootloop. pls help!
Thanks in advance!

If everything is stock with stock recovery then hold power + volume down and it should boot into fastboot mode. From there choose recovery and press the volume up. If you get into a screen with a red exclamation mark and a android guy then hold power and volume up for 2 seconds and release. This will bring up the recovery and from there choose wipe cache partition and press power button. This will wipe the cache and hopefully should fix the bootloop you are having.

this hasn't worked, it was seemingly stuck trying to wipe the cache for over 5 minutes, so I held power button to reboot it and it still bootloops.
Okay I managed to wipe cache and complete it, hasn't worked, and when I went to do it again it reboots after 10 seconds of trying to wipe it. Am I right in assuming I'll have to wipe data?
If you are still having issues....yes...you may have to try doing a factory reset. Data will be wiped.
If that doesn't help, you may have to flash stock firmware fresh. If you can get your current version files.
Don't downgrade. You'll likely brick.
Yup, ended up wiping data and now its fine. Thanks to google my photos were already backed up, so I didn't lose too much. Thanks anyway guys

My nook froze while in recovery. I was wasn't flashing anything yet just deleting the caches. Is there any way to force shutdown while in recovery besides letting the battery drain?
Strange, it reinstalled my last rom instead of boot looping.
Nevermind just gotta hold down the power button. Hope recovery is volume down and power.
I've had that same prob a few times.... I just wait a few min in case its still working, then just hold power till it shuts down.

how do you make it go back into recovery. volume down and power? that doesnt work for me.
I've shut it down but when it reboots as i'm holding down volume down it boots the rom back. After i go into recovery again to from rom manager the cycle just continues.
n button + power to boot in recovery
Some clarification....
To do a hard power off at any point hold down the n and the power buttons together for about 7 seconds. This works is any state.
To boot into recovery takes some practice. From the completely off position you need to hold down the n and the power button for a specific amount off time. Releasing too soon or too late will not work.
For me it works if I release after 3 or 4 seconds, once I see the "Touch the Future..." words. You really do need to practice!
Richard
You're not the only one. My recovery hangs any time i clear dalvik cache and requires a reboot. As for booting into recovery, like the poster above mentioned, it takes some practice (n+power release 2-3 seconds after you see Read Forever text).
What I learned.
After clearing "dalvik cache" or a "data wipe" will cause my recovery to lock up. After unsuccessfully being able to boot into my recovery, wipe, and install the rom I decided to do something stupid. Knowing that the nightly #77 wouldn't boot without a kernel, I flashed it via rom manager app. I was not able to flash the needed kernel but for some reason I thought that flashing the rom would redo my recovery. I was dead wrong. What I was left with was a NC which hung at the boot screen due to not having the .32 kernel and device which for the life of me wouldn't be put into recovery. I really think I lost recovery because I tried and tried but couldn't get it into recovery. Naturally, I freaked out. With advice from Paul22000 who provided me the link on how to boot recovery from an sdcard, the nook was fixed 5 hours later. Only 10 minutes of work, but I had to leave it NC out of service until I got back from taking the girlfriend out to watch bridesmaid. Oh, and I can't forget the quick trip to walmart for an extra sdcard.
Anybody up for a challenge? My phone has only given me problems the past several months, and now it's currently stuck in a boot loop on Team Hacksung's CM9 Build 16. Apparently restarting my phone was a bad idea, as that's all I did to set off this new problem. The best part of my situation: The power button is broken, it has been for a couple months now. I remapped my volume keys to wake/unlock my phone, and the search/magnifying glass would lock it.
Here's what my phone can do at the moment: It can turn on, get to the AT&T screen, and get stuck in the ICS boot animation. It can charge with that green battery icon and the five dots below it. I was also able to get it into recovery (once), but I can't select anything because my power button is broken.
When it started giving me this issue last night, I just let it run until the battery died this morning. It didn't help. I'd love to have a somewhat usable phone again, does anybody have any idea on what I can do here?
EDIT: I accidentally got it into download mode somehow, so that must be a good thing.
get a jig.
Hi! My power button is broken as well, but I found out while I was flahsing a ROM recently that I could use the home key in CWM recovery as if it was the power key!
Maybe try that!
If it works, I suggest Factory Data Reset, wipe cache and dalvik cache, and reflash your ROM. Then reboot recovery and flash it again.
After you flash it the second time fix permissions and then reboot and see if that fixes it.
Hi Everyone;
I unlocked my phone for flashing custom rom. After unlocking i reebooted it and was normal. Then i flashed cwm via htc one toolkit. It was successfull as well. Then i go to cwm and made factory reset + wipe cache + dalvik cache. Then i go to install zip from sd card but i could not find my rom file. Thought, it was deleted while unlocking device. Then decided to reboot phone again to copy rom file into the phone and reboot.
But, when i rebooted phone from cwm, it stuck on HTC Logo( Quietly Brilliant screen). Waited sometime, but nothing happened. Then i tried to power off it and boot into bootloader or recovery. I press and hold power button but it does not respond anyhow. When i am holding power button ,back and home buttons are blinking but nothing happens. Almost five minutes i waited as holding down power button but phone does not power off anyhow. i tried all methods like vol down + power, vol up + power and both volume keys + power. But really nothing happens, just blinking back and home buttons. That's all.
I can not simply power off device. :crying:
I also tried boot device via fastboot commands but it says "waiting for device" means computer does not recognize device.
Guys, i need an urgent help. Please...
just keep trying to reboot via holding power or power+vol down. if it doesnt reboot after 30 sec or so let go then try again. if that doesnt work you will have to wait for the battery to die. once you get to bootloader use all in one toolkit to erace cache. then boot to recovery and you rom should be there if not boot back to bootloader and sideload rom

First thank you for your quick reply. Unfortunatelly, power+vol down does not work at all. Maybe i tried 50 times.
Anyhow, after battery die. How can i boot into bootloader. I mean, can phone be charged again in this situation? Also, even if i manage to boot into bootloader or recovery how can i put custom rom file into phone. Actually, i did not use sideload or whatever you mentioned before.
I am serouisly confused now and don't know what to do.
Anyhow, as you said, firlst i need wait to battery die i think. Then i will report back whats happen.
Thank you again btw.

yes your not the first person with this problem. hold power+vol down to get into bootloader. press power button in bootloader to get in fast boot mode. use all in one toolkit to erase cache and side load rom. i recommend all in one toolkit because it automates the process. just select the option then follow on screen steps
Good to hear that i am not the first person That means somehow there is a solution i beleive. Still waiting for battery die. even i had 50 percent battery at the begining but still it holds on I never say again htc battery is bad
I exeprienced that stucking on boot logo several times before with my other htc phones but holding power + vol down/up worked always. This is the first time for me that i faced with power button can not power off device.. Well, ,i hope i wish i can handle out this problem. Definetley with your help.

I am having the same problem and don't know what to do :crying:
Today I just got my One. Unlocked bootloader, rooted, flashed Android Revolution rom. Everything worked fine for a while... I wanted to reinstall the rom because I wanted to change some options in the installer - I did not wipe because it was the same rom (big mistake I guess!!). After making the installation option changes, when it was done it proceeded to reboot but now I am stuck in a white HTC logo boot loop hell... (with the red text at the bottom that says "this build is for development purposes only" etc). Holy crap I never had a phone that I could not remove the battery. I cannot get this back into recovery or ANYTHING, it just keeps looping... computer recognizes it, no problem with drivers or anything it just doesn't stay connected long enough (because of the constant looping) to be able to use the toolkit.
PLEASE any advice?? Can't even shut it down omg. Do I have a $600 brick here? :crying::crying:

Did you read the other posts in this thread? The way you do a "battery pull" on this phone is to HOLD the PWR + VOL DOWN button for ~15seconds. Your capactivie buttons will blink, too. On my device, it took exactly 15seconds to reboot. There have been some reports of some phones that get so stuck that you just have to wait until the battery dies and charge it back up.
Alternatively, if the computer is recongizing it, try to adb reboot recovery to try and get into the recovery.

hi again. this morning my battery finally out. Then i put my phone to the charger and started it in fastboot mode( that is a good new) Then i left it for 20-30 minutes to charge a little bit for flashing custom rom. Then i went to recovery and started adb sideload. Sideload was succesful and finally came to aroma installer of trickdroid. I chose my installation options and started to flash rom but process was frozen on 10 percent. It was saying unmount system, unmount cahce and both of them has notification as "already unmounted". But installation was not going on. Then again i tried to go back fasboot mode again by press and holding power+vol down but unfortunatelly lights are blinking but nothing happens again. I think i need to wait to battery die again.
Isn't it quite weird? Why power+vol down combination does not work for me anytime? So, do i need to wait for battery die in every frozen? Do you have any ideas or comments ?
Do i need to go back to stock first ?
EDIT : Battery was out again and i tried once more. This time installation (trick droid) was successful but it frozen at the end this time. And unfortunatelly i can not restart (power+vol down) it again again Holy crap, i am really pissed off with this problem.
O..K...Finally, i managed to start my phone and now it works... Especially thank you skinsfanbdh for your support.
But still i don't know how to solve button configuration problem. But anyhow i think i won't need quite sometim to use it I hope someone can find a solution for that later.
Guide me with steps please

How to get into TWRP with hardware keys on G2
1. Make sure phone is completely powered down.
2. Press and hold the Volume down button and the Power button.
3. When the LG logo is displayed release the Power button only then immediately press and hold the Power button again.
4. Release both buttons when the Factory Hard Reset screen displays.
5. Press the power button three times, like it says. Even though it says it will delete everything, it won't (I can confirm that if you are at least on v2.6.3.2).
6. After a "factory reset processing" appears, you should get the TWRP flash screen, and you are good to go.

Thanks for replying. I've read how to get into the recovery menu many times. Something is wrong with my phone that prevents me from doing it. I'm assuming its hardware related. I was almost ready to give up yesterday when I found out that if I do the key combo while plugging it into USB, it enters the menu normally. At that point I was able to restore my backup and start again.
I think my phone has a fluke, but I've figured out a way around it.
For those who are using Malladus on Verizon, something was wrong with the radios in the set. I had to find a seperate KK baseband file for the VS980 and flash it over top of the ROM to get it to work. I'm not saying its the same results for everyone, but I tried every variant of his directions (just in case) and was unable to get LTE online. It was the seperate BB file later on that fixed it.
Hopefully you guys can help me with my problem. Recently, I downloaded the new Marshmallow app drawer from Android Pit's "Here's how to get Android Marshmallow's new app drawer on Lollipop". It was successfully installed and seemed to be working fine. However, Google Now gave me a message saying that it was not connected to the microphone and that I should reboot my device. Thinking that the actual reboot key combo was power and volume down, I did this and this brought me to the fastboot page. I selected and entered the power up normally option on the top, which the booted my phone to a completely black screen, from which only the "power off" option would show if I held the power button down. I was confused and concluded that the app drawer somehow soft bricked my phone. After reading up on the web, I went into recovery in the fastboot screen, then selected clear cache. Two lines of orange text appeared at the bottom saying that the cache clear was starting and that it was finishing. I hit the power button, tried to boot my phone up, then, recieving another black screen, brought back up the fastboot menu and tried to enter the recovery screen again so that I could factory reset my device. The recovery screen gave me messages about how it could not load the cache, and since then has been flashing on a set interval on my screen (going black, showing the broken Android with "no command" then going black again).
Any ideas on what I can do to fix this problem?
note: (I have not rooted my phone)

What is the actual model of your phone. Did you have an unlocked bootloader with TWRP?
The black screen problem can only be fixed by doing a factory reset. After you get into the screen with the dead android and an exclamation mark. You need to press power and volume buttons to make a menu appear. Then choose factory reset. Unfortunately you will lose your data, but this will fix it.

I have solved the issue... I believe it was stuck in some sort of loop with the revovery mode, because that was flashing periodically on the screen. I was eventually able to get the recovery screen to actually stay on the screen and then reset it. Thanks for the quick reply!

I'm still having the problem that you were facing and cannot get out of that loop sequence. I've booted over and over, tried to launch recovery and nothing... I see some yellow text at the bottom only briefly staying that something couldn't load, then back to the dead-droid/red triangle (no command) for a split second, over and over... I am stuck.

I'm having this exact same problem too! The 'dead droid' just constantly flashes over and over, so I am unable to do anything. There was one time when I held power and the low battery icon showed up with a yellow exclamation mark triangle, but I haven't been able to get that screen again. I contacted Motorola and they told me to try and go to settings and do a factory reset... I just told you I can't turn on my phone! What the hell man. I have tried so many things online and none of them worked. From what I'm reading the only was to fix this is to flash a blank bootloader, but those files haven't been released yet.
The worst part is that I have only been using this phone for ONE DAY!:crying:

okay so after several guides and steps, i finally got my Moto X (1st Gen) working again using the tutorial here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWDwyqUF6k4
Essentially i flashed a custom recovery like the PhilZ Touch recovery here http://www17.zippyshare.com/v/40132571/file.html by renaming the "philz_touch_6.58.7-ghost.img" file to "boot.img" in fastboot mode and rebooted after that.
And that was it, phone rebooted and is working fine.
