[HELP]cmd adb error msg...

I already have my pc setup with adb. It appears to be working just fine. I'm trying to setup adb on my laptop and is running into all types of problems. I've downloaded the sdk and ran the sdk setup.exe and downloaded all the latest files, and of course the usb driver. I was able to successfully install the driver and was able to connect my G1 for file transfer. I've followed the guide info to the letter but for some strange reason I get the following:
Code:
* daemon not running. starting it now *
* daemon started successfully *
error: device not found
I've already tried uninstalling the newest driver and installing the working one from my pc, then I tried downloading a driver that was listed by a user in this thread. Still no luck. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

1) Done [Don't insult me!]
2) Tried 3 different drivers. All allowed me to connect my G1 to transfer files, but not ADB.
3) ...shouldn't have to install linux. My pc (running windows abviously) works just fine. My laptop, running windows, should work the same.
Thanks for the assistance though...

I really wouldn't except this behavior from you, but I see we all fall from grace every now and again. I've posted in that thread already, no one can seem to come up with an intelligent response. I followed all the instructions in both adb help threads for proper installation on my laptop. If you don't know the answer to what I'm seeking, I would honestly prefer you not to reply at all. Don't assume I'm the typical xda idiot, assume I'm the most intelligent person you've ever spoke to, then go from there with your next reply.

you posted a couple of hours ago, duplicating posts might be considered spam
you didn't really give any useful information in your post(s)
and if I were to assume your were, then this is just some boring role play thing at a job interview or something, as you wouldn't really need anyones help on this.
Everyone, Chill it.
We don't need a flame war.
Check your firewall. Make sure it's not blocking the connection. Also, are you using the same USB cord on both machines?

Thank you for trying to "actually" assist me. I am using the exact same usb cable on purpose to rule that out as a reason. I've also recently update both computers to the latest norton antivirus. Like I stated the drivers install on the laptop and I'm able to connect the G1 for file transfers, so I assume the driver is working but when I type in adb device or adb shell in cmd, I get the no device msg. I'm really stumped with this one...
*Update* My norton did remove adb.exe from windows\system32 on both computers, but I was able to restore that file on both. Like I said, my pc works just fine, laptop no good...
And point 3
Install linux ( ubuntu 10.4 )
Just give it 10gb
It will eliminate hardware faults as being the problem
The android developer has a tutorial for 10.4, so it should be easy
( no need for drivers, aparently 10.4 ships with the android udev rule )
the driver for file transfer isnt the same as the driver for adb....so your logic is flawed
seriously tho, use linux...wubi is pretty good now and u only need 4-10gb if u are only using it for android stuff
in my experience, windows, especially where norton is used, randomly breaks adb
The file transfer is done using the standard windows mass storage driver, not an android specific driver. Even if it's the same norton, try disabling it and see what happens. Also, trying removing the driver completely and reinstalling it again. I've had the issue happen also only when in windows and it's always something random.
virtualbox _should_ ( I think ) let you 'see' the Android Phone regardless of the drivers being installed on the Windows host
But, I have not tested that
Did you ever get this to work, I have the same issue?
I'm having the same issue, I'm trying to use ADB with my TF300T from a Windows 7 64 bit system. Always get the error adb error.
I have a couple of questions will this work correctly with a 64bit O.S?
Also the part of the instructions that reference SDCARD are they talking about the directory on my ASUS /sdcard/ or are they talking about the physical card?
Just need to know does it require you to have a sdcard in the ASUS to use adb?
May sound like fundamental questions to a lot of you, however I have combed through these forums as well as others all over the web, and the majority of instructions seem to be lacking the basics.
Thank you,
I have Ubuntu at work should I run ADB through this?
I have Ubuntu at work
It's a bit of a process according to the instructions that I have on the
screen right now to setup ADB through this, is there any gotchas that I should
know about before attempting this?
This is running on a VM on one of my servers. What I'm looking for is any known compatibility issues with versions of ADB and the Asus TF300T running .26
Thanks in advance.

what happens when you execute adb?
if your getting something like "can't execute blah blah" make sure that adb has execute permissions.
#chmod +x adb
its been awhile since I been on ubuntu you may have to sudo to execute chmod on ubuntu.
Wen I plug in my phone it does not recongize it also wen I hit adb says no command adb found did you mean then gives me a list of commands for something I'm not familiar with lol

first are you executing adb from the folder its in. If so and it says that the command is not found then make sure that the abd executable has executable perms on it.
Sorry if if I'm not precise on the instruction as I'm trying to do it from memory, I haven used linux in about a year or so and most of my nix time is solaris lately.
But you should by able to #chmod +x adb so that its has execute perms.
if you gets errors trying to run chmod try typing sudo first so that you can switch into root.
I'm not sure on running it threw the window its in I opened up terminal its the only thing open besides a search window on how to install this and when I did type in a command I hit sudo didn't try the other commands u gave yet I'm mobile and to my dismay ill b for a few hours but as soon as I get to my laptop I will and post results anything else you can think of is more than welcome to I don't shun knowledge thanks in advanced

EVERYONE OF YOU SEE THIS THREAD PLEASE!!it'll help you more than you think!!!

ok...i saw most of you are not comfortable with using ADB. many don't even like the linux typo command prompt environment of adb.
enter QTADB. if you are not using this, you are missing the MOST IMPORTANT SOFTWARE THAT EACH OF YOU SHOULD HAVE FOR CONTROLLING YOUR PHONE through PC.
QTADB is simply ADB with a graphical user interface.
u can use it to pull file from phone. push files to phone. reboot recovery, wipe data. backup apps to computer from /data, install apps, screenshot the phone, get the ever important logcat. get the exact phone info (battery,sd, system, sd, ext available), batch install/uninstall applications and more.
Requirement: u should have adb installed.
here is the link to this awesome app: http://qtadb.wordpress.com/
and here is the link of it working in YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTFqepcDMTE tested working 100% on linux & windows 7
hope i helped.

...depends. i too love the cmd format, but many people (like my GF) really hate the cmd. so, i thot to share. it might help ones not confortable with conventional SDK way.
Of course, we need to share our knowledge to others. Some people fits with CLI, but not others.. especially when they learn computer now, not in early years when even Microsoft haven't release his Windows GUI, still under MS-DOS
So it will helpful to others for sure
Ooh yes,
I do not remember how many times ADB solved my disaster and get back my black after bad flashing or something else.
So, will download and give a try.
Thanks for the tip.

[Q] I got it to flash back to stock GB 2.3.5 with Odin, but..

I got my Cap to stock GB 2.3.5 finally, after it being in the "firmware upgrade fail" screen. I flashed the file with no bootloader, since I was already on GB before. All went well until I tried to get rooted through Super One Click, short fuse 1.9.1.0. I got everything started and tapped the Captivate tab and it went through the whole process and in the end, failed . Once more, same thing. Tried universal tab, driver check, some kind of windows pop up saying either stop now or sect continue. I continued and tapped root tab and killing adb, starting adb, daemon not running, daemon started successfully waiting for device, failed to get root. One more try, same thing. Now my battery is showing very low, like in the red low. So I left the phone plugged in the wall charger while I reinstalled the Samsung drivers, and that is when I noticed the phone went black and when I connected it to the laptop to try Super One Click with new drivers ans the laptop doesn't recognize the device. Says no drivers are installed, etc...,etc... . One click starts though recognizing the phone and starts trying the root sequence and everything is good until after daemon starts successfully, it says OK, waiting for device... - that's it. I can't get it into download mode even with with the USB jig. I had already sent this phone in and had the unbrickable mod done by Josh at Mobiletech video. So, does anyone have any suggestions or answers, as to how I get this phone working

Thanks for that link. I've got bigger issues than trying to get root though. My phone won't go into download, even when I use a USB jig. I have nothing but a black screen. I can't get recovery, my computer recognizes it but only as a Samsung USB device with no drivers installed. I've installed drivers from Kies, from Samsung, and from Gingerbread rom. I have unbutu installed, but I have no idea how to input commands. I have had the phone repaired and had the unbrickable mod performed on it by Josh at Mobiletechvideo back in February. I can't get unbrickable resurrector to work because I don't know how to run Linux / Unbutu. So now I'm out of ideas/options that I'm capable of implementing. If anyone that may read this has an idea of what I should do next, please let me know.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
I did a quick google search on this unbrickable resurrector and it looks to be just a .jar file that is able to discover what mode the captivate is in and correct issues. I do not have experience with this exact program but I did find a thread with documentation / how-to. You should be able to follow those instructions + adapt for your device. If you have any specific questions pertaining to ubuntu / linux, let me know.

I appreciate you trying to help. I hit the "Thanks " button so you will have your first on your meter. LOL. I already read that post and it didn't quite get me what I needed unfortunately. I may have to send it back to Josh at MobileTechVideo and let him see what he can do. But I'm still trying to do it myself in the meantime.

Do you have java & the .jar file downloaded? If so just open up a terminal and try these commands, substituting file for the actual filename
Code:
cd ~/Downloads
-- This is assuming you've left the .jar file in Downloads directory
Code:
chmod +x file.jar
-- This will give the file execute permissions
Code:
java -jar file.jar
-- This will run the java jar file.
You will need java installed, If you don't have it installed run these commands.
Code:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install oracle-java7-installer
Code:
sudo java -version
-- will display the version of java installed.
Let me know if you need anymore help.

It is a piece of cake trust me. Before I rooted my AHD I had never used Ubuntu or any form of Linux. I download Unbuntu and made the liveCD, and literally copied and pasted every command from the thread into the terminal in Ubuntu, then just followed the instructions on how to connect the phone. Worked first time, no issues. Just grab a cup of coffee, take your time, copy and paste and you will have root in no time,

I rooted my AHD tonight and it was my first experience ever using Ubuntu. It took me a while to figure it out, but once I got started it was a cake walk. Like someone else said, the hardest part is probably making the LiveCd/usb. I'm not sure why, but I couldn't ever get Ubuntu to work properly in VirtualBox so I ended up just booting my LiveUSB and opening the instructions on my tablet and doing it. It's super easy. Just do exactly what it says.
Oh, and it took me a little while to figure out just how to open a terminal in Ubuntu (ctrl+alt+T). If you're as much of a noob with this as I am knowing how to open a terminal will save you some time right from the get-go.
Good luck!
Google is your friend

I was wondering, if any "recent" version of Ubuntu would work for the root...
Main reason for asking this was because I had a Live USB With 10.04
That and the PC i'm stuck with ATM just can't seem to handle 12.04...

Never mind, I'm getting Lubuntu...

thanks for all your help, you guys roick finally rooted on stock jelly bean btw used ubuntu 12.10 on usb worked great first time no problems
Lubuntu Variant
I noticed for Lubuntu, its a slight variant as opposed to the basic Ubuntu instructions...
Instead of gedit, you can substitute leafpad instead...
"sudo leafpad /etc/samba/smb.conf"
Oh and I think I solved my earlier problem after installing the "sessioninstaller" from the Synaptic Package Manager... (Use the search function.)
My only issue ATM is when I'm in the terminal and I try and use "sudo restart smbd" and it doesn't seem to work.
It merely tells me smbd isn't a process...
