[Q] Help!!!! I applied the update and.... - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I get a message it failed but I checked the about phone and it shows the updated baseband version #. How can I tell whether or not the software update was actually applied?

You may have a partial install like I did(have since restored via odin). If baseband is incremented but build still reads Eclair without the new version after it, then you got partial.

I got a partial update also. Any idea on what got left out?

How do I fix a partial?
I do not how to use Odin to fix.

That will all depend on what part of the upgrade script yours died in. No way to know as from what I have seen nobody even has a copy of the script yet.

[Q] Stock Upgrade to JH7

I have a stock (JF6) ATT captivate. I am in the U.S. I pulled Kies off of the UK site. I didn't make any changes to Kies registry (Win7) entries to fool it into seeing a different (non-ATT) phone. Kies is telling me it has a f/w upgrade available to JH7 but it gives me a server 404 error (cannot find) and won't download the f/w. Should I just ignore this and wait till froyo or is Samsung really trying to push out an upgrade for ATT phones? thanx
I have the same thing going on
Kies has an update or android has an update? Every time I try to check for an update it tells me it cannot communicate with att.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Kies on the PC (not ATT through the phone) says "You can upgrade the firmware" when you hove over the lower right pda/phone icon with an up arrow. On the Firware Upgrade popup it gives model name, current verion, and latest version showing the pda and phone latest version is JH7. Then I get the error.

Did any of you try changing some regestry settings? The Galaxy S forum found a test 2.2 rom for their device through Kies...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=769043
Maybe there is a test rom out for the Captivate as well?
I am on JH3 and altered my Kies settings to JF6 and i get nothing.
Can you post a screenshot of your regedit settings and make sure to blur out your phones personal information.
I am eager to get a rom that has better gps over anything else.

I have not had this problem at all, but I am still running JF6 stock. It could be a custom firmware or ROM causing this problem. However, there still are not any updates OTA from AT&T.

you need to be in tw-launcher .. at least that's how kies recognizes for me
Im gonna try to see if I get an update :O
--EDIT--
I tried it.. and I can't get it to shake hands because it says "This device does not support this service" X-x..I guess I have to be using JF6 not JH3 D: ?
for some reason other home launchers won't work with usb functionality outside of the development mode.
if you delete your default action for the home button and choose twlauncher, the usb will work for mass storage mode and for Kies.
i noticed the link provided in XML, didn't appear that way on my xda client on my phone. There was an actual link pointing to JH8.tar. i got no where though

[Q] Stuck on JF3 Firmware - No Kies Update

Hi there,
I successfully upgraded my SGS to 2.2.1 (JPY) via the Kies Registry Patcher in January. All seems well however I just tried doing exactly the same trick with my sister-in-laws SGS and no luck. Successfully got her rooted and unlocked, but for some reason I cannot get the registry spoof working.
I know I have not done things in exactly the same order for her phone, but it is bugging me. I tried with Kies 1.5(?) but when the phone was plugged into Kies it flashed up the "You can update your firmware" but when the actual process kicked off no firmware was available. She's on JF3.
Her SGS is from the same company, locked to the same network. The only thing I can think of is that the original spoof I did is still in my system registry and that her values do not match up in the same way? I have no idea...
I have now updated to Kies 2.0 to see if I can just get a normal 2.2 update for the T-Mobile firmware, but if her experience is like mine, that firmware has to go! So 2.2.1 XEU is the goal.
Any ideas?
As a side issue, now that OTA is enabled for 2.2.1, does that mean I will never have to fight Kies for an update?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=959806, as well you could also use Odin/Heimdall (? spelling) to flash a 2.2.1 ROM. OTA is not currently activated.
OTA at Samsung end? As the option is there on my phone and when i run it is says "no updates available".
Anyway - yeh. I saw that link. Will check it out when I next get my mitts on her phone.
What I don't know is what has changed? Has ?Samsung wised up to the previous spoof in some way?

You can spoof by patching a file to make Kies2.0 believe that another firmware is connected, but when the update starts, another check is made directly to the phone, which is new as of Kies2.0. This is where we get stuck in patching Kies2.0. The module that checks this is encrypted which makes is impossible to patch it.
This is why I went for another approach and spoofed the firmware that the device is reporting, to fool Kies2.0 in every moment

New OTA with baseband 622

Small update. Nondestructive.
I did not loose root after this was applied. I ran the quadrant test a few times and got just under 2600 bone stock so I guess they have not underclocked it to get it stable.
Fingers crossed for the end of BSOD for me!
No change in android or kernel version.
Lock screen seems to be fixed. I no longer see what was previously displayed on the screen before the lock screen appears. Recognition of the unlock pattern also seems snappier.
+1
V10C
I got V10C too but I suspect other regions might get another version number.
Same update thought.
I hope the battery drain is fixed...

Nothing for me through either OTA or PC.
Which baseband do you use?
still 405 because there was something wrong after I had downloaded over OTA as it would install, and now i can't download it again before after 24
Okay, weird. Never hear of that before.
My GF's O2X had that, i tried manual update, and was not allowed to check for update for 24h.
I cant even check for OTA updates, i get connection errors all the way

Note 5 Laggy, Wifi Issue, and Security Notice

I recently bought this tmobile phone running the latest 6.0.1 version on CG, then I had a google bypass lock and imei fix service, now my phone has a "security notice unauthorized actions have been detected" pop up message and it's laggy every 10-15 seconds, and also forgets wifi password as well. Does anyone know how to fix this? Would I have to flash Marshmallow and reinstall the stock firmware? Would anyone be able to provide an advice for me? I appreciate it!

Thank you so much for getting back to me. Appreciate it alot!! I looked on samfirmware and there seems to be 4 versions of stock firmware for marshmallow, which one do you reccomend, the latest or the earliest? Which ODIN version should I use? I tried odin 3.10.6 and 7 today along with N920TUVU2DPD1 for T-mobile, which is the earliest version and I got a "SW rev check fail device 4 binary 2" on my note 5 screen on its downloading mode as a result. What do you think that means?

PD1 firmware is really old. Like the very first 6.0.1 update lol
You need to just fllash something newer. The SW rev check fail is just saying youre flashing a firmware thats older than the one you have installed and blocking it.

A few years ago,I had the same issue (using an unlocked AT&T phone on another network) & I had to get a cheap prepaid AT&T SIM to get the OTA update pushed to my phones (Note & LG G Flex2).
I had heard this wasn't the case anymore, but,I found this post from an AT&T forum & it still seems to be the case:
https://forums.att.com/t5/Samsung/A...date-when-not-on-AT-amp-T/td-p/5591432#M38714
You might as well use Odin,it won't hurt a thing, you'll still have Knox intact/etc.........

Sounds like Odin is your best bet to get on the latest update. Here's the AT&T specific thread that has links to the AT&T firmware & patched Odin.
