I get a message it failed but I checked the about phone and it shows the updated baseband version #. How can I tell whether or not the software update was actually applied?

You may have a partial install like I did(have since restored via odin). If baseband is incremented but build still reads Eclair without the new version after it, then you got partial.
I got a partial update also. Any idea on what got left out?
How do I fix a partial?
I do not how to use Odin to fix.

That will all depend on what part of the upgrade script yours died in. No way to know as from what I have seen nobody even has a copy of the script yet.
The patch that we’re issuing will address the random freezing or rebooting problem that we’ve identified when:
- the phone is being charged
- the power button is pressed to wake up the phone
- the phone is in stand-by mode

It is a OTA
Or is this just very old new which phandroid just caught on.
EDIT: Probably a false alarm, thanks for everyone who checked.
EDIT2: Might be true

This could be the 10S update which has appeared in Korea.

Is mine the only handset where OTA doesn't work? I just keep getting an Authentication error
I seem to recall mine did that when stock as well.

Reboot your phone and go directly to the software update, then it will work!
Did you run it? What version is your software now?
I only meant that the authentication error is gone after you reboot, the update isn't available yet...
Ah, thanks - actually, it never works for me. So, nothing newer in Europe than the 10D update.

Yeah same error message for me all the time. As its only been released in Korea I would imagine at least a few days to get it over to the UK.

Tried that.. Same Error
OTA won't work in uk with stock. you need LG suite on PC conection to update.
I just tried LGMobile Update (on pc) and there are no new updates avaliable here in Hungary, latest version is V10C in this region.
In Poland the same, last FW is V10c no update on LG tool and OTA, waiting impatiently!

I saw on twitter earlier that LG will be rolling out the European update OTA this week.........Erm.... OTA doesn't work, so why do that?

I updated in windows using the LG suite, since updating my battery use has shot up, after a little investigation it seems my awake usage is running at 53%, this results in a battery life of about 10-12 hours.
That is a bit of a drop considering I managed to go 53 hours on the previous rom, with 13% left and light usage.

OTA works fine to me, after playing with the phone a bit and then bringing it back to V10B stock using SmartFlash, OTA works just fine (It didn't when I just got the phone but didn't checked yet till a couple of days ago)
Tho, V10B is still the latest update available for Italy by now
Hello. I just got tired of the BSOD's in CM7 so I decided to go back to V10d. EXT4->EXT3, NVFlashed my phone to V10b, downgraded baseband to 0405 and tried to update. At first it says that there is a update, but then further in the process it tells me that I have the latest.
This used to work, am I doing anything wrong, or is there a new solution?
LG-P990 from Sweden (EURO OPEN I guess...)
Hello guys,
I bought my wife a Galaxy Note for her birthday last month. I have been waiting for the ICS update to show up on the phone and I have gotten nothing. I go into settings > about phone > update, it says phone is up to date. I tried Kies on two different laptops and it says GT-N7000 does not support initializing. I have removed Kies and reinstalled it, but no luck.
I did more digging to see where my phone was meant to be sent. The model is N7000XXLA4, so according to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356325 , my phone is the one meant for Germany. Yet they got their updates almost 2 months ago. I have tried a factory reset on the phone but still no luck. Can anyone let me know what I am doing wrong?
PS: I know how to root and install ROMs. As the phone is not for me, I really want to stick to the official updates.
Thanks!
Is the phone rooted? That'll break any updates.

No man, never rooted the phone.
Anyone?
If this is German ROM, you will get the OTA update only when you are located in Germany and connected to a German Carrier.
If you are located outside, you can download the update here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
and flash with Odin 1.876 (same link).
I have an unrooted I9305 bought new from eBay in the UK, I believe the handset came from Singapore. I did a factory reset on it once and it restarted in Chinese or something similar!
I have just received an OTA notification that Android 4.3 is available, I haven't installed it yet. I am in the UK on T-mobile. Is it safe or advisable to install this update? From what I understand it will be 4.3 designed for Singapore, I don't want to screw my phone! I contacted Samsung support who came back to me within a couple of hours, confirmed that the handset was from Singapore but didn't seem too sure what would happen if I take the update. They suggested I should take it to a Samsung service centre and have it flashed with the UK stock firmware (which I would prefer) but the nearest one is 40 miles away, they would probably charge me for it, and Samsung said it would invalidate the warranty anyway.
I tried Kies to see if it would give me any more information about exactly what the update is, but Kies seems to be confused. I have version 2.6.1.13105_6 which is the latest according to Help->Check for updates in Kies itself, but when I plug in my phone Kies tells me I have to update Kies itself before updating my firmware. Samsung suggested using Kies3 which I tried but it says my phone is not compatible. I have had slightly better luck with an older version of Kies 2.3.3.xxx which displays my current firmware version and tells me there is an update, but doesn't show the latest firmware version so I still don't know what it will be.
I have just installed a smaller FOTA update and the handset build number now shows JZO54K.I9305ZHBMK1 but this gets no hits in Google so I don't know what it is.
I haven't rooted the phone as the guides usually say only do this if you know what you are doing, and I am clever enough to know how much I don't know!
Is it safe to install the OTA update and will it lose my current settings (like language) if I do? Or is there a better solution?

no u won't lose language english is in the blood of every Rom
Download a uk rom a d flash it with odin if ur afraid of any network issues. Since yur going to update via ota it makes no diff. Ur bootloader will be updated to the knox bootloader. And since you are not going to root it... just use odin to flash official i9305 firmwares. You cant go wrong.

I hope you are right! I presume flashing the firmware will remove all the apps and data I have put on the phone? Alternatively if I just take the OTA update is it likely to cause any issues or you can't be sure what it will do? And will that also wipe all my current apps and data? I have all the standard stuff backed up but since I haven't rooted there is some app data that can't be backed up, as far as I know.
As i have experienced before... unrooted phones data is not possible to be backed up. Heard of helium but yet to use it. So you may actually find out more about Helium app. Another alternative is you can use Kies to back up data.
Secondly check your gsm and lte bands of your phone and the carrier that ur using in uk. If the carrier supports it then it should not be of any issues with connectivity. Sgp phones are unlocked and usable worldwide. I dont see any issues unless your phone is faulty.
