Hello fellow samsung users i needed help to figure out how can i go back to android 2.1 factory settings when i got the phone. I am currently using the beta version 2.2 XJP2 kernel 2.6.32.9 build Master 332 test keys 332.
There are a lot of issues while running this version, too much lagging, the device hangs up and restarts.. any help is appreciated.
I had froyo 2.2 jph installed trough kyes and went back to stock jm8 by flashing it trough odin. Then installed over tayutama rom. Cleared cache and data at first boot. I hope it helps.

Is it possible to downgrade from 2.2 to 2.1? I upgraded to 2.2 yesterday and now the phone is very sluggish. In 2.1 Launcher Pro was smooth as a baby's bottom and now it's not.
After the upgrade I did a factory reset, which I've read would solve a lot of problems.
Same problem
I am looking for the same solution.
Since I upgraded my galaxy s to 2.2 using odin3 I've got a lot of problems on the phone now. The Swype doesn't work Internet keeps crashing and the operating system crashes too. Google voice speak is also not working.
I've heard the only option is to re flash it but I don't know how to reflash or downgrade it to 2.1
Please let us know. My basement got changed to jp1 after Odin3
Most problem is old settings from 2.1.
The easiest way is to do a factory reset. Wipe the catch and format the internal sdcard.
If that works you can put back your app. Don't restor any old settings.
The other way is to make sure the phone is clean and flash latest firmware with odin.

moved from COG 3.03 to PER 10.2
due to problems with odin, didn't use it to do a return to 2.1 and master clear the captivate
but used a 2.1 rom and flashed it using CWM
then moved with CWM to PER 10.2, without a master clear done
is this going to be a problem?
I just went from Phoenix 2.0 to Cog 3.04 the same way. no issue so far.
Should not be

I've gone back and forth from stock to rogers froyo to stock to cog, to percep, to darky, to di11igafs to phoenix, to stock to jh7 to stock to jh7 to cog to percep to <insert random names 16 times here> and only master cleared once. Just back up everything in your EFS folder with super manager (enable root function in the options first) and save those in a few locations (including PC) before you get too flash happy and end up with some borked IMEI number. Like me. lol.
So it would be ok to flash a 2.1 rom (any?) through cwm then flash 2.2 or 2.2.1 roms? That would eliminate Odin and the need to connect to a computer.

Right, firstly this is my first post, so please bare with me.
I have a (UK) Galaxy S that WAS running FROYO 2.2. I recently rooted the phone for various reasons only to find out that some features would not work. I then un-rooted the phone to return back to the standard running 2.2.
During the un-rooting process the phone crashed, and subsiquently would not reboot. I got round this by recovering it using ODIN Ver3.0......But its restored the phone to 2.1, Build Number ECLAIR.XWJMB, Kernel 2.6.29 rootSE-S603 #2, Baseband version I9000XXJM4.
Ive tried to update the system using Kies but it says that it isnt able to update and trying to update using ODIN didnt work. Can i get my phone back to running FROYO 2.2 that i loved so much?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated
Thanks Rob
PITS
I believe this thing happened to me also. I resolved it by checking if the .PIT as per this table http://www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-i9000.htm is compatible with the firmware i wanted to patch on my phone.
Hopefully it will solve your troubles too

I was running Serendipity VII (Build 3, Kernel 4.1).
I followed the instructions here to install Teamhacksung Build 16, but got stuck in boot loop when trying to install the ROM from internal sdcard using ClockworkMod Recovery.
I was able to go into download mode using the Vol Down+USB. I ran Odin3 v1.7 and installed the following (which I already had copies of):
PIT: s1_odin_20100512.pit
PDA: PDA_XWJVB_Sbl.tar.md5
PHONE: PHONE_XXJVK.tar.md5
CSC: CSC_NEE_JV3.tar.md5
That got me up & running with the following:
Model: GT-I9000
Firmware: 2.3.3
Baseband Version: I9000XXJVK
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9000XWJVB-CL1181186 [email protected] #2
Build Number: Gingerbread.XWJVB
It's not a great build (kernel?) because none of the hotkey buttons but Home seem to work.
I rooted, etc., and installed ROM Manager, then installed Clockwork Mod. Unfortunately that put me into some weird recovery loop. I got what looks like the recovery screen--but with fewer options than normal--and the OK button didn't work. So I then again had to go back into download mode & reinstall the files via Odin.
Now I need help!
* I'd like to get to ICS, but don't think I can given my problems with what happened last time I tried to install Clockwork Mod. Ideas on the easiest way to get there?
* I admit that the PIT/PHONE/PDA/CSC files I installed were the ones I could access because they were saved on my computer--was trying to find new ones online but all lead to dead download links. Can anyone point me to better ones I can install via Odin?
* Other thoughts/suggestions?
Thanks!

Unless I'm missing something. I think you installed the i9000 rom on your captivate.

Thanks for the replies.
I realized after the fact that the PIT/PDA/PHONE/CSC files were the basic Gingerbread files provided by Serendipity VII. I just didn't install the Kernel or ROM. I'm going to finish up with that right now...if it works, it'll at least get me back to where I started!

OP here...
So the I9000 stuff was actually Serendipity VII--in my panic to fix the soft brick, I just didn't realize what I was installing.
Last night I flashed the reorient kernel as well as 4.1 kernel & all seems to be stable this morning.
I'd love to try ICS, but I'm now gun shy after yesterday's problems. I couldn't find anything to indicate that you can't flash the Teamhungsung stuff from Serendipity VII, though there doesn't seem to be a lot of feedback on the topic. Anyone have any idea what might have gone wrong?
(While Serendipity is great when it's running well, I find it gets painfully slow with random shut downs, reboots & other glitches, which is why I wanted to flash ICS. I've been running S7 for about 9 months and had to reflash umpteen times. Maybe the fact that I wiped the cache, etc., yesterday will make this install a bit more stable. )
I had a ton of trouble getting to ics on my phone. What finally worked was teamhacksungs. I flashed that and got the boot loop like you but it managed to install another version of cwm. I used this new version to flash the rom again and it worked . I found that different versions/colors of cwm don't all flash the same. And these ics roms are very picky about which one you use
